Passed away suddenly on January 7th, 1998, Sun Wei Lang
Au (Sunny), of St. John’s, aged 31 years. Leaving to mourn
his ever loving parents Sing Lang and Julie (nee Yu); sisters Susan Trevor),
Madeline (Tom), Calline, Natalie (Shawn) and Cindy (Brad); grandmother
Mrs. Yee See Chong Au; uncles Sing Chong Au (Cindy) of St. John’s,
Ben Yu (Theresa), Kenneth Yu (Louise) and Raymond Yu, all of Montreal;
aunts Phui Hui (Don Power) and Phui Jean (Phil), both of St. John’s,
Cynthia Yu (Bill), Linda Yu (John Ashby) and Amy Yu (Gary Wong), all of
Montreal; cousins Krystian and Courtney in St. John’s, and Melissa,
Kristi, Dhantae, Taylor, Sean, Chelsea and Cody of Montreal. Also leaving
to mourn a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell’s
Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Thursday from 7-9 pm., Friday 10 am – 12
noon, 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm.. Funeral Service to take place Saturday, January
10th, 1998 from Gower Street United Church with interment
to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or
donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Caines, Eric George
Passed peacefully away at his home on January 2nd, 1998,
Eric Caines, age 84 years. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Evelyn;
two sons; Stan (Fredris), Bob (Ingid), Kamloops, B.C., two brothers; Gordon
(Eileen), Ted (Whilomena); one sister Ruth King, Toronto; seven grandchildren;
seven great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell’s
Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road with visitation on Saturday and Sunday
from 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm.. Funeral Service will take place on Monday, January
5th, 1998 at 2 pm from St. Thomas’ Anglican Church, Military
Road. Cremation to follow with a private interment at a later date. In
lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Newfoundland
Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation.
Elliott, Brant Joseph James
Surrounded by the love of family and friends, Brant completed his journey
home to God on January 21st. 1998. Left with
beautiful memories of an angel child are his parents, Karen and Hubert;
sister Meghan; great-grandmother Violet Jenkins; grandparents Rosalie
Colbert, Joe Colbert; grandmother Betty Swyers and husband Don; aunts,
uncles and a large circle of cousins, extended family and friends. Memorial
Service was held at St. Theresa’s Church, Buchans on Thursday evening.
Brant is resting at Ryan’s Funeral Home, Bay Bulls. Mass of Resurrection,
St. Michael’s Church, St. Michael’s, 11 am Monday. Funeral

Passed peacefully away at his son’s residence in Manuels, on Monday,
January 12th, 1998, Ross C. Head, age 60 years. Formerly
of Mount Pearl. Left with fond and loving memories, wife Daphne; two sons;
Jeffrey and Douglas; two daughters; Paula Lundrigan (Richard), Linda Coffee
(Arthur); three grandchildren; Megan, Joshua and Kenneth; two brothers;
Simon (Donna) and Alvin (Patsy); four sisters; Helen Mercer (Fred), Bernice
Abbott (Carson); Lorraine Brushett (Wilfred), Madeline Trask (Warren);
special friends; Walter Dawe, Ford Crewe, Dennis Wiseman and George Hiscock;
also other relatives and friends. Resting at the James J. Hickey Memorial
Funeral Home, Kelligrews until Noon Wednesday. Funeral to take place on
Wednesday, January 14th, 1998 at 2 pm from All Saints Church,
Foxtrap. Interment at the Anglican Cemetery, Foxtrap. Flowers gratefully

Passed peacefully away at the Leonard A. Miller Centre on Thursday,
January 8th, 1998, Daniel Joseph Kennedy, age 46,
of Shea Heights, former president of L.S.P.U.. Predeceased by his father
Hugh (1984); his mother Anne (1976); and his sister Elizabeth (1984).
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, his wife of 17 years,
Carol Ann (nee Gladney), Portugal Cove; daughter Danielle and son Martin;
four brothers. Jim, Jack (Margie), Gordon (Anne), Larry (Bernadette);
six sisters; Isabel Snow, Helen Connolly (Jimmy), Phyllis Evoy (Mike),
Noreen Kennedy (George), Winnie King (Jimmy), Bernice O’Neill (Leo);
also his father and mother-in-law; Francis and Rita Gladney of Portugal
Cove; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Caul’s
Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Funeral Mass on Monday, January 12th, 1998
at 10:30 am from St. John Bosco Church, Shea Heights. Cremation to follow.

Passed away suddenly in Ottawa on January 8th, 1998,
Thomas King, aged 55 years. Predeceased by parents; Capt. Thomas
F.N. King and Susanna. Leaving to mourn his wife; Paulette, Ottawa; daughter
Donna (Graham) Barrett, Moose Jaw, Sask., her mother Bernice King, St.
John’s; two grandchildren; Allyssa and Holly Barrett, Moose Jaw,
Sask.; step daughters Tan Prest and Tracy Jerean, Ottawa; sisters Sandra
(James ) Tulk and Susan (David) Squires, St. John’s; brothers Henry
(Sharon), Grand Forks, B.C., and Michael (Linda), Carstairs, Alta; many
nieces and nephews and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting
at Kelly’s Funeral Home, Somerset St., Ottawa. Further Funeral arrangements

Knight, Charles Snowden (Don)
Aged 78 years. Passed peacefully away at Chancellors Park on January
2nd, 1998, WW11 Royal Naval Lieutenant. Leaving
to mourn loving wife Enid; two daughters; Dawn (Andy) Crewe, Lyn Martin;
two sons; Peter (Shirley), Geoff (Leah); seven precious grandchildren
and one great grandson. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329
Freshwater Road. Visitation from 7-9 pm Saturday, 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm
Sunday. Funeral will take place Monday, January 5th, 1998

Pinsent, Vida (nee Petty)
Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital on Friday,
January 23, 1998, Vida Pinsent of Dildo, Trinity Bay, aged 82 years. Left to
mourn husband Sidney; three sisters; Jessie Bennett, St. John’s,
Ina Newhook, Coley’s Point, Edna Pretty, Toronto, Ontario; three
sisters-in-law; Lilly Pretty, Any Rowe and Zeta Martin; also lovingly
remembered by a large number of nephews, nieces, relatives and many
friends. Resting at Warren’s Funeral Home, Dildo. The Funeral
Service will be held from St. John’s United Church, New Harbor
on Sunday, January 25, 1998 at 2 pm.. Interment will take place at
Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Field of Honor, St. John’s on Monday,
January 26, 1998 at 11 am.. Donations in her memory may be made to
the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre or to a charity of one’s
choice.
