Francis Bragg, age

was forced from her homeland by civil war in 1989. She spent eight years
in a refugee camp in Cote d'Ivoire before coming to Canada in
February 1997. Amelia
was a "mother" to anyone in need of assistance. She is survived

Desbarats, George Henri
Passed peacefully away at the Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavillion on Monday,
December 13, 1999 George Henri Desbarats. Aged 99 years. George H. Desbarats
graduated from the Royal Naval College of Canada in 1918. He continued his
studies at McGill University, where he received, an honors degree in Electrical
Engineering in 1922. He is a charter member of The Association of Professional
Engineers of Newfoundland. He is a retired Commander of the Royal Canadian
Navy, a Veteran of World War I and World War II, and a past president of
Mount Pearl Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was the first chairman
of the Newfoundland Power Commission, which is now Newfoundland and Labrador
Hydro. Along with other societies and organizations, he is a fellow of the
American Geographic Society, and a member of the society of American Military
Engineers. He is predeceased by Gladys Whitten, 1989. He leaves to mourn
with loving memories his three daughters: Carmen Desbarats, Ottawa; Denise
Desbarats (Paul Pierson), Golden, Colorado; and Andree Desbarats (Dr. Henry
Becker), Kingston; one son, Georges Allain Desbarats, Ottawa; eight grandchildren;
10 great grandchildren; and also a number of nieces, nephews in Ontario and

Dunphy, Patrick William Of Dartmouth, died December
8, 1999, in his 76th year, at the Q. E. Health Sciences (Victoria General Site) in Halifax.
Born in Curling, Newfoundland, he was a son of the late Thomas and Mary (Rockett)
Dunphy. He received his high school education at the Sacred Heart School
in Curling. He went to work at Furlong Brothers Herring Plant and
Coombs Department Store just before joining the firm of Humber Motors
Ltd. in 1954. In 1964 he purchased the automobile dealership from the
estate of his father-in-law, and continued to operate the same until 1978 when
he sold the company to Derek Young C.A. He was a member of the
Archbishop Howley Council of the Knights of Columbus for many years and was
an Honorary Life Member. He was also an Honorary Member of Rotary International. During
his years in the automobile business, he served a term as president of the
Newfoundland Auto Dealers Association and was a director of the Canadian Auto
Dealers Association; he also served as a director of the Ford Dealer Advisory
Council. During his business career we also served a year as president
of the Corner Brook Chamber of Commerce and a Director of the Canadian Chamber
of Commerce. Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy Wiseman; one
daughter, Barbara MacEwen (John) and their children, Patrick and Lori-Beth,
all of Dartmouth. Also surviving are his sisters: Gertrude MacLennan
(John), Joan O'Driscoll (Francis); and brothers: Gerald (Grace);
William (Irene); Kenneth (Renata);and a large circle of nieces and nephews. He
was predeceased by a sister Rita Milani and brothers Francis and Harold. Visitation
will be 2-4, 7-9 (Thursday) today in Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29
Queen St. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday in St. Peter's

December 9, 1999 at the Pioneer Care Center of Kitchener. She
will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her sons; Ellsworth LeDrew
and his wife Karen and Stephen LeDrew. She was predeceased by her
husband Reverend Ralph Glendon LeDrew of Rhodes Avenue United Church in Toronto
(originally of Cupid's, Newfoundland). She was a loving mother of
a closely-knit family of eight ladies from Random Island in Newfoundland
and will be dearly missed by sisters Donne Roberts, Bina Butler and her
husband Bob, and Dulcie Joycey and her husband Gordon. Sisters Hazel
Brown, Fran Sawlor, Vera Gillingham and Mabel Young, predeceased
