God saw you getting tired, when a cure was not to be.
So He wrapped His arms around you,and whispered "Come to Me".
You didn't deserve what you went through, so He gave you rest.
God's garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best.
And when we saw you sleeping, so peaceful and free from pain,
We could not wish you back to suffer that again.

CUMBY (Byrd), Isabel - (April 5th, 1937 - August 26th, 2016) - Passed peacefully away at home on August 26, 2016 surrounded by her loving husband Eric of 56 years and all of her 5 children - Judy, Barbie, Mike, Jill and Brenda. Isabel was a gentle, loving soul who always found good in everyone and all who met her felt her warmth and acceptance. Family was always the centre of Isabel's existence. She was born in Grand Falls, NL and grew up believing she had the best family and the happiest life. After graduating from Notre Dame Academy, Isabel embarked on her first of many adventures and headed to Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, NS where she studied Secretarial Science. Upon completion, she returned to Grand Falls and took up employment at the mill. In 1960, she married Eric and they decided to pull up stakes and move to Indiana for Eric to pursue his engineering degree. It was here that their first child, Judy, was born. From there, they moved on to Illinois where they added both Barbie and Mike to their fold. Eventually, the call of home became too strong to resist and they headed back to Newfoundland where they completed their family with Jill and Brenda. They remained in Grand Falls for 20 years where Isabel focused on raising her family, totally enjoying her job at the Roman Catholic school board and actively participating in St. Gerard's Guild. In 1987 they moved to St, John's, where she worked at the Cabot Institute of Technology (now CONA) and remained in NL until Eric's retirement in 1992. They then decided to embark upon yet another adventure and headed North this time, to Inuvik in the NWT for 3 years where again, they made many new friends and lasting memories. After re-retiring back to NL, Isabel enjoyed shallow water fitness, bridge, Catholic Women's League and more travels to visit family and vacation spots. Isabel's faith was the foundation of her being and it gave her great comfort and strength to face whatever challenges arose in her life. Her raison d'être was her family, always her family; she truly was the family's heart, compass and anchor. Left with cherished memories and a lifetime of peaceful guidance are husband Eric; children Judy of St. John's; Barbara (Ian) MacLean of Fall River, NS:, Mike (Lisa Hickey) of Greenville, South Carolina; Jill of Halifax, NS; and Brenda (Steve) Wall of Kensington, Connecticut; grandchildren Danielle (Prashanth) Ramanathan, Alyssa, Kevin, Karina and Amelia MacLean, Sam, Luke, and Emma Cumby, Zack and Amy Wall, and great-granddaughter Kaila Isabella Ramanathan. IVANY, Raymond Roger - (January 16th, 1944 - August 6th, 2015) - With broken hearts, the family and friends of Raymond R. Ivany are mourning the end of his life much too soon. Dad was a true Newfoundlander, a real gentleman, and a man with a good heart. He was born and raised in St. John's, Newfoundland, by a determined woman with a strong will and impeccable style. With his mother's good influence and his proud service in the Royal Canadian Navy, he learned the importance of a good haircut, a properly pressed shirt and meticulously polished shoes. Over the years, his career in the pharmaceutical industry took him to other cities in Canada, but St. John's was his true home where he had deep roots, fond memories and good friends. Predeceased by his cherished mother, Malvine Pippard, he is survived by his six children that he loved so much, thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Emma Freeman, and his three brothers, Vance, Reginald and Sheldon, along with a large extended family of relatives and friends. Dad found great joy in music and had a beautiful singing voice, and for those of us that loved and knew him we can still hear him singing along to his favorite songs. A celebration of life will take place at Barrett's Funeral Chapel on Friday, September 2, 2016 at 10:30am with interment to follow at Forest Road Anglican Cemetery. A continued celebration of Ray's life will be held at Barrett's Funeral Home Reception Centre, immediately following the burial service. Wisdom comes with age
Or so they say
Some will say; with experience,
Not by the number of days.
His life was filled with love
and little joys
With a smart, beautiful girl,
And three strong, young boys
His light will be sent out,
into this world.
He will live on forever
inside their hearts
With this comforting knowledge, we shall never part.

She was the goalie on the championship field hockey team of 1942. Her education at Bishop Spencer had a profound influence on her life and she often quoted the ideals of the school (and Headmistress Miss Cherrington) to her children. Phyllis often spoke of having an early breakfast, heading over to Bowring Park to play tennis and then cycling across the city to Bishop Spencer on Bond St. (Miss Cherrington liked active girls). Mom entered Nursing School at the General Hospital in St. John's and was valedictorian of the Class of 1946. She nursed in St. John's and later completed a physiotherapy program in New York City which enabled her to nurse at the Children's Rehabilitation Centre in St. John's. She left this post in 1965 as Acting Director of Nursing. Phyllis was predeceased by her loving first husband Frederick Thomas Davis. Phyllis and Fred, along with young Paul, spent a number of happy years managing the bungalows in Terra Nova National Park. During widowhood, the hand of God (and Rosabel Ewing) reintroduced her to an old family friend (and widower) the Rev. James Pike. They married and Phyllis moved to Nova Scotia where she and Jim blended their families and created a unified family with Paul and Valerie. They loved each other's children unconditionally and created a strong family unit. Phyllis began the joyous journey of a busy clergy wife in the Anglican Parishes of Digby, Cornwallis (Port Williams) and Hubbards. Mom ran a welcoming rectory which was full of the most delicious food and baked goods. She was active in the ladies groups in all the churches of each parish and often led the Junior Auxiliary. Phyllis enjoyed hosting groups of parishioners and the friends of her children. Dad described his years with Phyllis as the happiest years of his life. Phyllis was a talented knitter and enjoyed knitting for family, friends and church groups. Mother's love of nature made our home a haven for animals. There were always dogs and cats as well as hamsters, rabbits, fish and even an orphaned raccoon that loved her chocolate chip cookies, but overstayed his welcome by joining a clergy barbecue and accosting the guests. For one summer, a 4-H calf grazed contentedly on the lawns of the Port Williams rectory. In retirement, Phyllis and Jim enjoyed visiting and taking services in various local parishes. They took holiday trips to Florida and often went "home" to St. John's. When Dad became ill, Phyllis retuned her nursing skills and nursed him at home. She then returned to St. John's in order to nurse her mother during the last years of Rosabel's life. Until recently, Phyllis was very active. She enjoyed packing a picnic and going on day trips to Provincial Parks around Nova Scotia. She attended her Spencer Reunion and her Nursing School Reunion. In 2015, the extended family gathered for her 90th birthday celebration which was a joyous occasion. Phyllis was predeceased by her husbands Frederick Thomas Davis and the Rev. James Pike; by her parents Frank and Rosabel Ewing; sister-in-law Minnie Ewing and special aunt Mae Gosse. She is survived by her daughter Valerie of Ingramport; her son Paul (Lynda) of Cape Coral, Florida and their children Catherine and Philippe; her brother Millar Ewing of St. John's and his children Geoffrey (Yvonne) Ewing and Dr. Karen (Carol) Ewing; nephew Grayson Ewing and his mother Iris (Ches) Petten, Scott Ewing, Kate and Rachel; cousins the Rev. Trudy Gosse, Mac (Shirley) Butt, Ruth Thomas and Elaine Dunphy all of St. John's. Phyllis will be especially missed by Marta the Schnauzer and Billy the Cat. Please join us to celebrate Mom's life at St. Nicholas Anglican Church, 29 Westwood Blvd., Upper Tantallon on Saturday, Aug. 13th at 2 pm. The service will be celebrated by the Rev. Tammy Hodge and the Rev. Lynda Downing. A reception will follow the service. Private interment will be held at a later date. Online condolences can be made to www.rawalker.ca
