MURPHY, James J. (Nov. 23, 1952 to Aug. 27, 2005)- Passed
away peacefully on a beautiful, sunny Halifax morning (Saturday, August
27, 2005), James J. (Jim) Murphy, retired teacher (St. Peter's Elementary
- Mount Pearl), age 52. He was surrounded by family, friends, Newfoundland/Irish
music and lots of love in the hospital room and stretching from his beloved
home in St. John's, Newfoundland to his brother's home in British Columbia.
If love could have kept him alive, he would still be with us. In true Jimmy
Murphy style, he never complained once. In his last hours, when asked how he
was feeling, he would respond "very good." Jim grew up in
the east end of St. John's and had many wonderful memories of his childhood
friends and antics. There are many people mourning his death, but also celebrating
his short, full life. Jim was predeceased by his mother and father (Cyril and
Helen), mother-in-law and father-in-law (Anita and Cyril Norman), life-long
buddy (Dave Cahill), special nephew (Joey Lambert), dear friends (Bob and Ann
Cochrane, Marie Noel). Jim leaves to remember him lovingly his best friend
and wife of 29 years, Cathy (Finn). Jim's legacy will forever live on in his
children Craig, Karyn and Chris. He is survived by four brothers and three
sisters: Don (Joan), BC, Gerry (Mary), Mount Pearl, Roche (Yvonne), Kilbride,
Cyril (Gert), St. John's, Mary Fitzhenry (Dave Martin), St. John's, Vick (Jim
Power), Torbay, Kathleen (Harry Snook), Sunnyside. Brothers and sisters-in-law:
Wayne Finn (Delsie), Clarke's Beach, Gary Finn (Viola), Mount Pearl, Noel Finn
(Kim), St. John's, Robert Finn (Cathy), Alberta, Arthur Norman, St. John's.
Missing him also will be numerous nieces, nephews special neighbours on Amherst
Heights and longtime friend, Margie Cahill. Jim had a circle of dear, dear
friends (the Road Gang) who go way back. He was the glue that held the group
together. He will continue to keep the crowd close. Jim has numerous friends
from his many years involved in the scouting movement and his years of teaching.
Jim had many funny sayings. Lately he has been saying "yard
by yard life's hard; inch by inch, life's a cinch." A true life lesson.
Jim will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He was one of a kind. There
were no strangers
to him, just friends he had yet to meet. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant
Road. Visitation on Tuesday and Wednesday 12 noon to 10 p.m. Funeral on Thursday
to Basilica for Mass at 9:30 a.m. Cremation to follow. Inurnment at Holy Sepulchre
Cemetery. Floral arrangements gratefully accepted or donations in his name can
be made to the Newfoundland branch of the Cancer Society.
"Let's scout on."
