Predeceased by her loving husband Josiah in 1989. Leaving to mourn with cherished and loving memories, daughters: Rosalind M. Stokes and Joan E.C. Fournier (Armand); one grandson Stephen Stokes and one granddaughter Raylene Stokes (Mark McCarthy); two cherished great-grandchildren: Michael and Gabriel Stokes; one sister Sadie Hindy; sisters-in-law: Sadie Sheppard, Hilda Babb, Mildred Gosse, Mildred Martin; and brother-in-law Gordon Babb (Anne); step-sister Doris Harris. PEARSON, Jude J. - Died as the result of a tragic accident in the Dominican Republic on April 28th, 1999, age 23 years, of Bell Island. Pike, Brigadier Wallace H., S.A. (R)
Born at Jamestown, Bonavista Bay on December 22, 1899. Promoted to Glory from his late residence Birch Hills, Bay Roberts on Sunday, April 18, 1999. The last WW1 Veteran of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment residing in Newfoundland, having served and being wounded in France and Belguim including the Battle of Cambrai following which the Newfoundland Regiment was awarded the title Royal. Following his honourable discharge from the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, he entered the Salvation Army Training College and was commissioned as an officer on August 14, 1921. Together with his wife, Minnie, also a commissioned officer, they served in many corps over the next 43 years. He retired with the rank of Brigadier on December 22, 1964. In addition to his WW1 British service medals, appointed Knight of the Order of the Legion of Honour (Chevalier de l'ordre de la Legion d'Honneur) in 1999 by the government of France. Longtime service to the Bay Roberts Royal Canadian Legion as Chaplain, member of Bartholomew #40 Loyal Orange Lodge and Royal Black Preceptory #1250, Clarke's Beach. An avid outdoorsman and devoted family man, Brigadier Pike was predeceased by his wife Minnie in 1978, baby daughter Fronie in 1945 and by six of his eight sisters. Leaving with loving memories, his remaining 9 children;Jean Bursey (late husband Graham), Birch Hills, Bay Roberts, Winnie Antle(late husband Roy), Kingsville, Ont., Marjorie Poole (late husband Winston), Thornhill, Ont., Beth King, husband Graham, St. John, New Brunswick; Major Maxcena Woodland, Birch Hills, Bay Roberts; Ferne Pike, Birch Hills, Bay Roberts; Clifford, wife Mavis, Birch Hills, Bay Roberts; Howard, wife Shirley, St. John's; Melvin, wife Verna, Springdale; sisters; Annie Vivian (late husband Robert), Brookline, Mass.; Ivy Fry, husband Mark, Jamestown, Bonavista Bay; 30 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren. Resting at the Salvation Army Citadel, Bay Roberts. Visitation Monday 7-9 p.m.;Tuesday and Wednesday 10-12 noon, 2-5 p.m., 7-9 p.m.; Thursday 11:30 a.m-1:30 p.m. Funeral Service to take place on Thursday, April 22, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. from the Salvation Army Citadel, Bay Roberts with Lieut. Colonel Boyde Goulding and Major Lindsay Oxford officiating. Interment to follow at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Coley's Point. Power, Teresa (nee O'Brien)
Of Logy Bay, passed peacefully away at St. Patrick's Mercy Home on Friday, April 30th, 1999, age 79 years. Wife of William; mother of ten children; Michael (Val), William (Patsy), Alice (Gary), Bridget Byrne (Jack), Patrick (Diane), Mary Deavey (Terry), Jimmy, Ann (Chris), Patricia Rose (Terry), Catherine Ryan (Gerard); special aunt to Charlie Spurrell; loving grandmother of thirteen; loving great-grandmother of two. Passed peacefully away at his home in Lawn, on Tuesday, April 20th, 1999, in the presence of his loving family, John Sullivan Rogers, formerly of St. Leonard’s, Placentia Bay, age 83 years. Predeceased by his parents James and Mary Cecelia (Sullivan) Rogers and brothers Bernard, Harry and Peter. Leaving to mourn are his devoted wife and best friends of 57 years, Marie (Connors); sons; James and wife Ellen of Lawn, Peter and wife Rose of Marystown, and daughter Jeanne and husband John MacDonald of Cartwright; grandson; Jimmy, wife Holly and great-granddaughter Kathleen Marie Rogers at St. John’s,. SEARLE, Blanche - Passed away on April 12, 1999, in her 73rd year. Predeceased by her husband Wesley, 1997 and grandsons: Reggie Smith and Lauren Searle. Left with fond memories of an exemplary mother, grandmother, sister and friend, are two daughters: Joyce (Fred) Smith and Lynn; son Fred (Jannette); ten grandchildren; sister Wynn O'Brien; brothers: Herb (Joyce) Holloway and Lindbergh (Merita) Holloway; special niece Barbara Pardy; and many other relatives and friends. Passed peacefully away at the Masonic Park Nursing Home on Saturday, April 24th, 1999, in her 93rd year. Predeceased by her husband Francis A. in 1942. Leaving to mourn and cherish her memories are two sons; Robert and wife Evelyn; Angus and wife Minnie; two daughters; Edith Sullivan and husband Harold; Audrey Noseworthy and husband Francis; five grandsons; Paul. Colin, Jeff and Carl Sullivan and Scott Noseworthy; four granddaughters; Lois O’Keefe, Marilyn Collins, Betty Lahey, Nancy Elkins and their families including 19 great-grandchildren. Also brothers; Abram (Hilda) Bragg, Pouch Cove and James Bragg (Leon), Ontario; sisters; Emily Sullivan, Pouch Cove and Audrey Field (Ronald), Torbay; sisters-in-law; Geraldine and Edith Bragg, Ontario and brother-in-law James A. WILLIAMS, Newman - Died suddenly at the Health Sciences Center on April 10th, 1999, Newman Williams, aged 47, of Chamberlains, formerly of Gander, NF. Left with precious and loving memories is wife Joy (nee Pritchett); son Dene; daughter Heather; and a large circle of other relatives and friends.
