Abbott, W. Gordon
Passed peacefully away, after a short illness, at the Health Science Centre on Tuesday, April 2nd, 1996, Gordon Abbott, age 77, of Portugal Cove. Owner of Gordon’s Snack Bar in Portugal Cove for 33 years. Predeceased by sister Jessie, 1991. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, wife Mabel; sons; Vern (Elaine), Keith (Karen), Colin (Michelle); daughters; Valerie (Russell Dicks), Rhonalee (Scott Sharpe); four grandchildren; Mark, Ryan, Kristopher, Kyle; brothers; Eric (Hilda), Walter (Loretta); special brother-in-law Duncan Picco; many other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. Visitation from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm Wednesday and Thursday. Funeral Service from St. Lawrence Anglican Church, Portugal Cove on Friday, April 5th, 1996 at 2:30 pm.. Interment to follow in St. Lawrence Anglican Cemetery, Bauline Line. No flowers by request. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Lawrence Anglican Church Memorial Fund.

Ingram, Hilda Ann Marie (nee Rodway)
Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital on Friday, April 19th, 1996, Hilda Ann Marie Ingram of Arnold’s Cove, aged 56 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her husband Freeman; three sons; Gary at Toronto, George at St. John’s and Harry at Arnold’s Cove; four daughters; Eva Deir (Levi) at Arnold’s Cove, Ruby at Holland, Mary Ann Pinsent (Ron) at Toronto and Elsie Ingram (Anthony) at Arnold’s Cove; 10 grandchildren; father Cleverly Rodway at Arnold’s Cove; two sisters; Nina Marshall (Fergus) and Ruby Slade (Wilson); one brother; Norman Rodway (Edith); and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Fewer’s Funeral Home in Arnold’s Cove. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 22nd, 1996, at 2 pm from St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Arnold’s Cove with interment at the Anglican Cemetery, Arnold’s Cove.

POLLOCK, John R.
Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on April 24, 1996, John R. Pollock, age 73 years. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Charlotte; two sons: Charlie (wife Barbara) and David (wife Patsy); two grandchildren: Cheryl and Jeff; sister Margaret; brothers: Kelvin (wife Phyllis), William, Thomas (wife Florence), Douglas and Laurie; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue from 2-10 p.m. Thursday, 10a.m.-10p.m. Friday, and 10a.m.=12 Noon Saturday. Funeral Service 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 1996 from Barrett's Chapel. Interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

SIMMS, Mary Margaret
Passed peacefully, away after a courageous battle with cancer, at her daughter's residence, in the presence of her family on Tuesday, April 9, 1996, Mary M. Simms (O'Reilly), age 76 years. Beloved wife of the late John R. Simms. Dear mother to her children: Cathy Healy (Brian), Betty (Gary Rowe), John (Helen) and Debbie Duff (John). Loving grandmother to her grandchildren: Jill Kelly (David), Brian and Chris Healy, Gina, Nancy and Kelli Simms, John and Alison Duff. Dear sister and aunt to Pauline Byrd (Andy) and Kathleen Butch and their families. Life-long friend to Betty Roach. As well, she will be missed by a large circle of other very dear relatives and friends. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home. Visiting hours Wednesday, April 10 and Thursday, April 11 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 12th at 9:45 a.m. from St. Pius X Church. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Clares Palliative Care Unit.

SMALLWOOD, Clara Isabel (nee Oates)
Passed peacefully away, in her 95th year, at The Interfaith Senior Citizens' Home, Carbonear on April 14, 1996. Predeceased by her husband of 66 years, The Honourable Joseph Robert Smallwood, C.C. Leaving to mourn two sons: Ramsay (Mabel) and William (Marcella); and daughter Clara Russell, all of Roaches Line; sister Emma Oates of Gander; sister-in-law Hazel Oates of Corner Brook; and brothers-in-;aw: Reginald Smallwood, St. John's, Gus (Marjorie) Smallwood, Gander and sisters-in-law: Dorothy (Rex) Collins, St. John's and Maxine (Irving) Ernewein, Kitchener, Ontario; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren: Josephine (Douglas) Harvey, Roaches Line and their daughters: Natasha, Tonja and Ingrid, Nova Scotia; Lorraine (Randy) Keefe and daughter Amanda, Toronto, Ontario; Dale Russell (Tom) Fitzpatrick and children: Jamie and Ashley, Roaches Line; Joseph II (Judy) Smallwood and sons: Joey III and Phillip, Roaches Line; Jane (Hugh) Atkinson and sons: Jonathan and Richard, Bay Roberts; Ramsay (Pam) Smallwood and sons: Billy and Wayne, Roaches Line; William, Houston, Texas; Robert (recently deceased) and children: Holly and Clarise, Edmonton, Alberta; Tanya (Grant) Scott and children: Brittany and Nicholas, Fort Worth, Texas; Bruce (Jane) Smallwood and children: Krista, Amy and Stephen, Lacombe, Alberta; Douglas, Fort Worth, Texas; Leslie and Andrew, Roaches Line; and a large number of nieces and nephews. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, Tuesday 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Wednesday 10:00 a.m. to Noon. Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday from Wesley United Church with interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, St. John's. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Radio Station VOWR in Mrs. Smallwood's memory, which would be appreciated by the family.
