Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, Effie J. Barnes of Grand Bank. She was 78 years old. Predeceased by son Wayne, daughters Betty Ann, Maude, Donna, brothers Thomas, Arthur and sister Lizzy Ann. Left to mourn are sons Jerry (wife Michelle) of Brampton, Ont., Clayton (wife Emily) of PEI, William (wife Ann Marie) of Ontario, Roy (wife Georgina) of Marystown, daughters Marilyn Billard (Dave), of Grand Bank, Kearn Barnes, of New Brunswick, Sadie Kramer (Pete) of Ontario, Murial Barnes of Marystown, Betty Lou Barnes (Chad) of Grand Bank, 31 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, brother Harry Meade (Hilda) of Grand Bank, sisters Lucy Roushron (Dale) of Nova Scotia, Marjorie and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was conducted by Reverend Michael Li from Saint Alban's Anglican Church, Grand Bank on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. Interment was at Saint Matthew's Cemetery, St. Lawrence. Organist was Karen Li, cross bearer was Betty Lou Barnes. Pall bearers were sons William, Clayton, Merrill, Roy, Jerry and son-in-law David Billard. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank.

BREWER, Frank
October 11, 1946 - October 30, 2003

Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on October 30th, 2003, Frank Brewer of Lewin's Cove in his 57th year.Predeceased by father Edward and sister Jessie. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories wife Alice; mother Rosella; sons Frank (Christel) and Eugene both of Lewin's Cove; daughters Martha of St. Lawrence and Ruby (Frederick) of Lewin's Cove; 5 grandchildren; sisters Stella and Elizabeth (Isaac Harding); brothers William (Angela), Ernest, and Collier (Cathy); brother-in-law Jack Kelly plus a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. Jean Lane officiated funeral service from Hope United Church, Lewin's Cove on November 1st with interment following at UC Cemetery, Epworth. Pallbearers were Cyril Green, Carl Green, Victor Augot, Herbie Clarke, Leroy Baker, and Fred Hawse. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Burin. "WE CARE."

BROWN, James Gabriel
Passed peacefully away at Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on Nov. 12th, 2003, James Gabriel Brown of Rock Harbour, NL in his 73rd year. Predeceased by son Jason, daughter Mondella. Leaving to mourn wife Victoria; sons; Ken (wife Glennis) of Marystown, Augustus (wife Eliza Ann) of Rock Harbour; daughters; Elaine Moggy of Burin, Rebecca (husband Dale Curl) of St. John's, Judy (husband Vince Kelly) of Rock Harbour, Goldie (husband Bob Appleby) of Burin, Bonnie of Creston South; sisters: Venie Decker of Joe Batts Arm, Arabella Lewis of Ottawa. 13 grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Robert Peddle at St. Peter's Anglican Church in Rock Harbour, NL on Nov. 15, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. Interment was at Anglican Cemetery in Rock Harbour. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Peter's Anglican Church. Pallbearers were: Shawn Decker, Vince Kelly, Carl Hooper, John Hooper, William Farrell, Stephen Appleby. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Geoff Lomond of Peninsula Funeral Home Ltd., Creston South.

COX, Lawrence
Passed suddenly away Nov. 18 at the Health Science Centre in St. John's, Lawrence Cox of Terrenceville. He was 50 years old. Predeceased by mother Mary Hanna and father Stephen. Left to mourn are son Stephen (Vanessa) of Ontario, daughter Nicole (Cory Isaacs) of St. John's and granddaughter Miranda. Also leaving to mourn are sisters Debbie and Susan, brother Victor and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Jeff Kolonel conducted funeral mass at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Terrenceville Saturday, Nov. 22. Cremation followed. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Homes, Marystown. Pallbearers were Wally Coady, Jerry Collier, Gilbert Hynes, Feliz Clarke, Roy Farewell and Ned Power. Crossbearer was Trevor Bolt.

Passed peacefully away at Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre Nov. 10, 2003, Lawrence J. Dober of Marystown. He was 74 years old. Predeceased by parents Bridget and Alphonsus, two sisters Gertrude and Mary. Left to mourn are wife Regina, sons Lawrence Jr. (wife Janice) of Fort McMurray, Alphonsus (wife Rebecca), Anthony (wife Carol), Wayne (Paula) of Marystown, Leo (Nadine) of St. John's; daughters Carol Ann (husband Richard Young) of St. John's, Joan (husband Gus Edwards) of Fort McMurray, Mary (husband Chester Walsh), Vera (husband Charles Dicks), of Marystown, Betty (husband Lawrence O'Keefe) of Fort McMurray, Denise Edison of Mount Pearl, Glenda (Howard Gover) of Chetwynd, BC., Bridget Dober of Mount Pearl. Also leaving to mourn are sisters Rita, Susan, Veronica, Donna, Laura, Elizabeth and brothers Fergie and Joseph, 32 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Frank Puddister conducted funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church, Marystown, Wednesday Nov. 12. Interment was at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Homes, Marystown. Pallbearers were Lawrence, Alphonsus, Anthony, Leo, Wayne, Charles Dicks. Cross bearer was Kody Dober.

Passed suddenly away Nov. 15, 2003 at U.S. Memorial Hospital, Eunice J. Follett of Lawn. He was 45 years old. Predeceased by mother Elizabeth, father Eunice, brother John and sister Almeta Loder. Left to mourn are brothers Samuel (Julie Ann) of Lord's Cove, Noel (wife Sherry) of St. Lawrence, Carl (wife Winnifred) and Eric of Lawn; sisters Marjorie (husband Henry Churchill) of St. Lawrence, Carmelita (husband Edward Slaney) of Lawn, Mary (husband Gus Beck) of St. Lawrence, Rose (husband Patrick Brennan) of Lawn and Kim (husband Kent Humber) of P.E.I. Also leaving to mourn are four aunts, one uncle, god-children Kayla Humber and Paula Pike, nieces and nephews and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Frank Puddister conducted funeral mass at Holy Name of Jesus, Lawn. Interment was at Roman Catholic Cemetery, Lawn. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Homes, Marystown. Pallbearers were Jonathan Beck, Jamie Churchill, Shawn King, Christopher Simms, Jamie Slaney and Shane Slaney. FORSEY, Eleanor (Stoodley)
Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, St. John's, Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003 Eleanor (Stoodley) Forsey of Fortune, age 85 years. Predeceased by husband Walter. Left to mourn daughters Louise Pittman (Keith) of Shoal Harbour and Carole Hillier (Aubrey) at Fortune; grandchildren Gregory (Theresa) and Dianne Pittman, Gary and Maria Hillier; great-grandchildren Emily and Elaina Pittman and Aaron Hillier; sister Louise Stoodley at Fortune; brothers Roy Stoodley (Emily) at Grand Falls and Max Stoodley (Jean) of Dunville. Also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service took place 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16 from Grand Bank United Church. Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery, Grand Bank. Officiating clergy were Reverend Raymond A. Case and Reverend Chris Andrews. Organist was Betty Rogers. Pallbearers were Keith Pittman, Aubrey Hillier, Gary Hillier, Gregory Pittman, George Forsey, Edgar Bonnell and Kelvin Matthews. 1942-2003

Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on October 28th, 2003 Fredrick Harding of Epworth in his 61st year. Predeceased by father Abram and sister Alma. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories mother Verlie; brothers Isaac (Elizabeth) of Epworth and Melvin (Gail) of Marystown; sisters Maxine (Harold Beck) of St. Lawrence and Kay Harding of Epworth; 3 nieces Sophie Watkins, Kay Beck and Darlene Harding; 4 nephews Darryl, Jamie, Elvis and Ricky Harding and 4 special friends Peggy Burbridge, Blanche Wagg, Angela Brewer and Sherry Kirby plus a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. Jean Lane officiated the funeral service on October 30th from United Church, Epworth with interment following at United Church Cemetery, Epworth. Pallbearers were Peggy Burbridge, Angela Brewer, Blanche Wagg, Austin Antle, Ricky Harding and Ralph Paul. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Burin. "WE CARE."

HICKMAN, Frank F.
Passed peacefully away at Blue Crest Inter-Faith Home, Grand Bank Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, Frank F. Hickman of Grand Bank, age 89 years. Left to mourn are special friends Harry, Audrey and Robert Evans at Grand Bank, Donna Evans and son Bradley at Mount Pearl, Scott and Pauline Evans at Alberta and Cora Francis at St. John's. Also the residents and staff at Blue Crest Inter-Faith Seniors Home, Grand Bank, where he resided for 17 years. Funeral services took place 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, from Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank. Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery, Grand Bank Officiating clergy was Reverend Raymond A. Case. Organist was Betty Rogers. Pallbearers were Harry Evans, Gary Hillier, Dennis Myles, Max Crocker, Aubrey Ralph and Dorman Scott. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank, "Where dedicated people care".

Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre Wednesday, Oct 29, 2003, Arthur S. Hillier of Grand Bank; aged 72 years. Predeceased by parents Walter and Mary Hillier. Left to mourn are common law spouse Nora Keeping; sister Elizabeth Trainor (Harold) at Dartmouth, N.S.; brothers Lloyd Hillier (wife Hilda) at Fortune and Roy Hillier (wife Ruby) at Harbour Mille, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held Saturday, Nov. 1 at 2.p.m from All Saints Anglican Cemetery, Fortune. Officiating clergy was Reverend Jim Pollard, assisted by Reverend Locke Fiander and Reverend Charlie Harris. Organist was Great Price. Passed away tragically as a result of an industrial accident near Fort St. John, British Columbia on November 01, 2003, a cherished son and brother Ryan John Penny of Creston South, Marystown in his 23rd year. Predeceased by grandparents; Rex & Josie Penny (nee Way) and J. Roy Babstock. Leaving to mourn his parents: John and Shirley Penny of Creston South. Sister: Melanie in St. John's. Uncles and Aunts: Harry Penny (wife Yvonne) of Mount Pearl; Don Babstock (wife Roz) of Gander, Mac Babstock (wife Lynda) of Eastport, Isabelle Dobson (husband Nick) of Maryland, USA; John Babstock (wife Darlene) of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, Terry Babstock (wife Elsie) of Gander, Bax Babstock (wife Roxanne) of Salvage. Special Aunts: Martha Babstock, Glovertown; and Nora Penny, Grand Falls-Windsor. Girlfriend: Chantelle Stafford in London, Ontario. Grandmother: Catherine Babstock in Eastport. Seventeen cousins and a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Passed peacefully away at the US Memorial Hospital Oct 23, 2003, Lawrence Slaney of St. Lawrence. He was 80 years old. Predeceased by grandsons Cory and John. Left to mourn are wife Kathleen, sons Thomas (friend Vicki) of St. Lawrence, Valentine (wife Shirley) of Halifax, Lawrence (friend Robyn) of St. Lawrence, Henry (wife Bernadine) of Halifax, Stanley (wife Christina) of Alberta, daughters Theresa (friend Harold) of St. Lawrence, Nora (friend Doug) of Nova Scotia, Vivian (husband Barry), Pauline (Lee), Margie (husband Reno), Regina (friend Louie), Mary and Anastasia all of Ontario. Also leaving to mourn is sister Annie of Freshwater, brothers David and Robert of St. Lawrence, 31 grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Regis Kamela conducted funeral Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, St. Lawrence, Monday, Oct. 27. Interment was at the Mount Cecilia Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Homes, Marystown. Pallbearers were Bob Slaney Jr., Christopher Slaney, Tim Edwards, Bradley Slaney, Howard Doyle, Christopher H. Slaney. Cross bearer was Dave Fitzpatrick.

STRICKLAND, Levi W., Sr.
Passed peacefully away at his residence at Allan's Island, Lamaline Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003 Levi W. Strickland Sr., age 91 years. Predeceased by wife Minnie and sons Andre and Cecil. Left to mourn are sons Eric (wife Catherine) of Allan's Island, Levi Jr. of Whitby, Ontario and Kenmore (wife Adele) of Lamaline; daughters Audrey Sheppard (husband Don) of Mount Pearl, Colleen Treadway (husband Ed) of Mount Pearl and Bernice Hillier (husband Howard) of Point au Gaul; daughters-in-law Doris Clarke and Emma Strickland of Lamaline; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral mass was conducted by Father Frank Puddister and Sister Maureen Lawlor 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 from St. Joseph's Church, Allan's Island. Interment was at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Allan's Island. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion and Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corvette Corps, Lamaline, were also in attendance. Pallbearers were Lawrence King, Steve Fleming, Harry Martin, Clueny Martin, Don Sheppard and Trevor Hillier. Crossbearer was Kenneth Strickland. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank, "Where dedicated people care".

WEST, Sarah
Passed peacefully away Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003 at the Blue Crest Nursing Home, Grand Bank, Sarah West of Grand Bank. She was 83 years old. Predeceased by husbands Clayton West and Donald Baker, son Herman Baker and parents Alex and Charlotte Moores. Left to mourn are daughters Eileen (Jack) Rogers of St. John's, Vera (Vince) Molloy at Marystown, Judy (Roland) Hillier at Fortune, Betty (Harvey) Clarke at Marystown, daughter-in-law Beatrice Baker at Grand Bank. Also leaving to mourn are 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was conducted by Majors Frank and Rita Pittman at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 2 from the Salvation Army Citadel, Grand Bank. Interment followed at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Grand Bank. Pall bearers were Jamie Rideout, Michael Baker, Dennis Myles, Dave Kendall, Dennis Langdon, Rex Matthews. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank. "Where dedicated people care."
