serving the residents of the Burin Peninsula."

It is published every Tuesday in Marystown.

 

CLEAL, Doris
Passed peacefully away at Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on March 15, 2004, Doris Cleal of Creston South, NL in her 95th year. Predeceased by husband Charles, brothers Leonard, Cecil & Hubert Fizzard, sister Thurza Bird. Leaving to mourn son Edward (wife Margaret) of Toronto, Ont., grandson Perry (Kay Lundrigan) of Creston South; granddaughter Sharon (husband Stephen Sears) of Mississauga, Ont., 3 great-grandchildren, Darren Cleal, Red Harbour and Jeremy & Michelle Sears at Mississauga, Ont., and a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral Services were conducted by Rev. Robert Peddle at St. Michael's Anglican Church in Creston South, on March 18th at 2:30 p.m. Interment was at Anglican Church Cemetery in Creston South. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Assoc. Pallbearers were: John Brinson, Clarence Hooper, Alonzo Farewell, James Mallay, Charles Wiscombe and John Legge. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Geoff Lomond of Peninsula Funeral Home Ltd., Creston South.

PIKE, Effie Pope
Passed peacefully away March 20, 2004 at Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre, Effie Pope Pike of Bay L'Argent. She was 85 years old. Predeceased by husbands George Pope and George Pike. Left to mourn are son George (wife Marjorie) of Milltown and daughter Diane (husband Sam Scott) of Bay L'Argent. Also left to mourn are sister May Pope of St. Catherine's, Ontario; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Reverend Charlie Harris conducted funeral service at St. Hilda's Anglican Church, Bay L'Argent with interment at St. Hilda's Anglican Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Homes, Marystown. Pallbearers were Albert Brushett, Jerry Steward, Charl Dominaux, Sammy Hynes, Chesley Tibbo and Terry Pope.

SLANEY, Julian
Passed peacefully away March 19, 2004 at the U.S. Memorial Hospital, Julian Slaney of St. Lawrence. He was 64 years old. Predeceased by brothers Augustine and William, and sister Nellie Fitzpatrick. Left to mourn are son David (Sharon) of St. John's, daughter Gena of Fredericton, New Brunswick. Also leaving to mourn are sisters Margaret Pike of St. Lawrence, Monnie Murphy of St. John's, Madeline O'Driscoll of Bay Bulls and Marie Rennie of St. John's; brother Michael Slaney of St. Lawrence; six grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Frank Puddister conducted funeral mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, St. Lawrence with interment at Mount Cecilia Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Homes, Marystown. Pallbearers were Glen Slaney, Carl Slaney, Richard Slaney, Ron O'Driscoll, Brian Slaney and Earl Slaney. Crossbearer was Gerard O'Driscoll

WHALEN, James R.
October 15, 1917 - March 17, 2004

Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on March 17, 2004 James R. Whalen of Burin Bay Arm in his 86th year. Predeceased by wife Violet, son Walter and son-in-law Bert Harding. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories wife Edna, sons Jack (Alvina) of Burin and Tom of Fort St. John; daughters Olive of Burin, Wilma (Heb Moulton) of Burin and Madeline (Melvin Kirby) of Burin; daughter-in-law Mary Walsh, step-children Julie (Guy Hollett) of Burin and Calvin (Diane Moulton) of Nova Scotia; 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; step sisters Mildred and Gladys plus a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. Susan White officiated funeral service from Bethany United Church on March 20th with interment following at United Cemetery, Burin Bay. Pallbearers: Murray Harding, Shawn Harding, Dale Walsh, Marvin Moulton, Guy Hollett, Guy Broydell. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Burin. "WE CARE."
