CUMBEN, Gertrude
Passed away suddenly June 10 at the Grand Bank Health Care Centre, Gertrude Cumben of Grand Bank. She was 77 years old. Predeceased by parents Henry and Pearl Keeping; father-in-law George Cumben, mother-in-law Elizabeth Cumben; sister Sarah Hillier; sisters-in-law Violet Cumben and Edith Cumben; brothers-in-law Alexander Hillier, Harvey Lee, Bert Cumben and Harry Cumben Sr. and nephews Cecil and Harry Cumben Jr. Left to mourn are husband Byatt; daughters Elizabeth Bown (Ray) of Port aux Basques, Pearl Hare of Grand Bank and Joyce Pittman (Alan Hooper) of Grand Bank; grandchildren David, Matthew, Ian, Kelly and Raylene. Also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was conducted by Majors Derrick and Judith Barrow, assisted by Majors Frederick and Winnie Randell from the Salvation Army Citadel, Grand Bank, Friday, June 13, 2 p.m. Interment was at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Grand Bank. Music was provided by David Noseworthy. Pallbearers were Jack Cumben, Don Keeping, Matthew Hare, Ray Bown, Arthur Clements, Eli Matthews. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank. "Where dedicated people care."

DIBBON, Doris Elizabeth
Passed peacefully away at the U.S. Memorial Hospital on June 1st, 2003, Doris Dibbon, of Port au Bras, in her 78th year. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories husband Benjamin; sons Richard (Mary) of Port au Bras and Ben (Lisa) of Burin; daughters Elizabeth (Lester Power) of Mortier, Marie (Roger Letemplier) of Burin and Bernice (Gerard Poulain) of Burin; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren, plus other family and friends. Rev. Berdina Ford officiated the funeral service from St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Port au Bras, on June 4th with interment following at Anglican Cemetery, Port au Bras. Pallbearers were Gerard Poulain, Lester Power, Ben Letemplier, Bruce Isaacs, Mark Jorgensen and Perry Letemplier. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Burin "WE CARE."

EDWARDS, Isaac John
Passed peacefully away at Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre, Burin on June 08, 2003, Isaac John Edwards formerly of Lawn & Marystown in his 68th year. Predeceased by parents Robert & Sarah, Brothers Robert & Gerald, Sister Martha and wife Dorothy. Leaving to mourn, Sons: Rupert of Hamilton, Ont., Tony of Hamilton, Ont., Sisters Debbie (husband Walter Isaacs of Marystown) Geraldine (husband Clarence Hibbs of Mount Pearl), Blanche, Ellen, Mary & Cathy of Hamilton, Ont., 4 stepchildren Patrick, Alec, Andre, Rosella Edwards, 5 grandchildren, and a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by Fr. John Costello at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Lawn on June 13th at 11:00 a.m. Interment was at Roman Catholic Cemetery in Lawn. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family. Pallbearers were Joseph Fleming, Albert Brake, Anthony Edwards, Robert Walsh, Martin Walsh, Robert Walsh Jr. Cross Bearer Geraldine Brake. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Geoff Lomond of Peninsula Funeral Home Ltd., Creston South.

Passed peacefully away at U.S. Memorial Hospital, St. Lawrence on May 29, 2003, Samuel Murley Farewell of Creston South in his 76th year. Predeceased by son - Joseph, daughter - Frances Emberley and sisters - Vera and Martha. Leaving to mourn, wife Ella. Sons; Ivan (wife Gladys) of Creston South, Melvin (fiancée Ella) of Creston South, James (wife Goldie) of Creston South, Fred (wife Fronie) of Creston South, Roy (wife Betty) of Terrenceville, Guy of Surrey, B.C. Daughters; Beulah (husband Michael Mitchell) of Creston South, Linda (husband Calvin Ceaser) of Salmonier, Margaret (husband Angus Walsh) of Creston South, Jenny (husband Eugene Hodder) of Creston South, Ruby (husband Sandy Moulton) of Creston South. Son-in-law - Carl Emberley, Creston North, Brothers; George Bandy in Marystown and John in Creston South. 25 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by Pastor Paul Perry at Calvary Pentecostal Church in Creston North, NL, on June 1, 2003 at 2:30 p.m. Interment was at Calvary Pentecostal Cemetery in Creston North, NL. Donations may be made to the family. Pall bearers were: Ivan Farewell, Melvin Farewell, Fred Farewell, Roy Farewell, Kenny Farewell, Mike Mitchell. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Geoff Lomond of Peninsula Funeral Home Ltd., Creston South.

FOOTE, John B.
Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre Tuesday, June 3, John B. Foote of Grand Bank, aged 85 years. Predeceased by parents Ambrose and Linda Foote, brothers Samuel, George and Charlie. Left to mourn are wife Joan at Grand Bank, brother Wilson (Mary) at Ottawa and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service took place 2 p.m. Thursday, June 5, from the United Church in Grand Bank. Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery, Grand Bank. Officiating clergy was Reverend Raymond A. Case. Organist was Eileen Evans. Pallbearers were Cecil Lake, William Buffet, Sam Barnes, Neil Locke, Randell Pope and Albert Snook. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank. "Where dedicated people care."

Passed peacefully away at the U.S. Memorial Hospital, St. Lawrence, on May 28th, Willis Woodrow Grandy of Burin in his 79th year. Predeceased by parents Alice and Fred, first wife Ada, son Billy, brothers Ron, Doug and Howard, sister Dinah and stepson Keith. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories wife Florence; son Morley Grandy (Anita) of Bay Roberts; daughters Ruby (Wayne Downey) of Grand Bank and Barbara (Ernest Follett) of Grand Bank; stepsons Wayne Appleby (Jessie) of Marystown and Denzil Appleby (Cindy) of St. John's; daughter-in-law Corella Appleby of Burin; grandchildren Hannah, Michael, Michelle, Scott, Danielle, Joshua, Tina, Tommy, Rod, Keith, Holly and Jerome; great-grandchildren Brittany, Shelby, Courtney and Chanasie; step-grandchildren James, Matthew, Jessica, Ashley, Cody, Linsay, Stephanie, Breanna and Taylor; sister Elizabeth Abbott (Raymond) of Garnish, Marves Mansfield of Halifax, Wavey Brown (Maxwell) of Halifax and Goldwynn Parsons (Selby) of Little Bay Islands; brothers Earl Grandy (Almeada) of Garnish and Curtis Grandy (Clara) of Lower Sackville; sisters-in-law Jessie, Laura and Loucretia Grandy; brother-in-law Bill Eastman, plus a large circle of other family and friends. Captain Fudge officiated the funeral service on May 31st from S.A. Citadel, Garnish with interment following at S.A. Cemetery. KING, Alice Margaret
Passed peacefully away at Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre June 15, Alice Margaret King of Fortune. She was 75 years old. Predeceased by husband John Mullet King. Left to mourn are step-daughter Jackie (husband Frank Fizzard) of Grand Bank. Also leaving to mourn sister Hilda (Jack) Parsons of Bay Roberts and nephew John Parsons, grandchildren Lisa and Michael and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Reverend Ben Snook conducted funeral services at Fortune United Church Tuesday, June 17. Interment was at the Fortune United Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Homes, Marystown. Pallbearers were Frank Fizzard, Michael Fizzard, John Parsons, Tom Douglas, Tom Bonnell, Gerald Mayo, Gerry Mayo and Ben Osmond.

Passed peacefully away at the Masonic Park Nursing Home on June 10, 2003, Lydia Alice Lake, formerly of Fortune, in her 76th year. Leaving to mourn her loving and devoted husband, Harvey; her loving children: Carl (Ethel), Toronto, Heather (Maurice Evans), Paradise, Jeanette (Howard May), Saint John, and Jasper, Fortune; her grandchildren: Thomas and Dennis (Susan) May, Jennifer Lake, Robert and Andrew Evans; sister, Jane LeDrew and other relatives and friends. Predeceased by parents James and Janet May, brother Ronald and sister Clara Slade. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 1081 Topsail Road, Mount Pearl, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 12th and 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2003. Funeral Service to be held Friday, June 13, 2003, 2:00 p.m. from Barrett's Chapel, 328 Hamilton Avenue, St. John's. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road, St. John's. Berdina Ford on June 12th from Church of Ascension, Brookside with interment following at Anglican Cemetery, Brookside. TURPIN, "Phee" (Philip) G.
Passed peacefully away June 16 at the U.S. Memorial Health Care Centre, "Phee" (Philip) G. Turpin of St. Lawrence, aged 73 years. He was a member of the Council of Catholic Men. Predeceased by parents Mr. and Mrs. David Turpin, brother Harry and sister Madeline Paul. Left to mourn are wife Clara Marie Turpin; sons Donnette (wife Tammy) of Labrador City and Danny (wife Debbie); daughters Alice (husband Clyde Clarke) of Hampton, New Brunswick and Paulette of St. Lawrence. Also leaving to mourn sisters Sr. M. Francis Xavier and Martha Kelly; brothers Gordon, Cyril, John and Dave; seven grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father John Costello conducted funeral Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, St. Lawrence. Interment was at Cecilia Cemetery, St. Lawrence. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Homes. Pallbearers were Doug Collins, Elroy Tobin, Pat Brake, John Slaney, Earl Turpin and Harry Edwards. Cross bearer was Glenn Turpin.

Passed peacefully away at St. Patrick's Mercy Home, St. John's on June 8, 2003, Francis James Whittle of St. Bernard's in his 89th year. Predeceased by wife Kyra Fewer & Edith Bennett & Son Sean Patrick, brothers: Pius, William, Garfield and Frederick and sister Melita. Leaving to mourn wife Nellie; sons: Harold (wife Joan) of St. John's, Julian (wife Marg) of Manuels, Chris (friend Norma) of St. John's, Peter (wife Mary) of Bay L'Argent; Daughters: Anna (husband Fred Tobin) of Foxtrap, Leona (husband Peter Cheeseman) of Toronto, Ont., Alice (husband Austin Whittle) of Labrador City; 11 step children & their families who were very loving and supportive during his illness; sister: Myrtle, Lillian and Doris; brothers Max and special brother Tom; 26 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a large circle of relatives and friends, Funeral services were conducted by Father Jeff Kolonel, at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in St. Bernard's, NL, on June 10, 2003 at 3:00 PM. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in St. Bernard's. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation. Pallbearers were his sons Harold, Julian, Alphonsus, Frank, Chris and Peter Whittle. Cross Bearer was Gene Whittle. Passed peacefully away at his home June 10, James J. Williams of Marystown. He was 52 years old. Predeceased by his mother and father.
