ANSTEY, Garfield C.
Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Centre Sunday, July 6, Garfield C. Anstey of Garnish, age 71 years. Predeceased by his parents William and Miriam Anstey. Leaving to mourn wife Selina at Garnish; sister Major Jeanette Crews (husband Kenneth); three aunts Annie Grandy (Blue Crest Home, Grand Bank), Ellen Grandy (Shoal Harbour) and Carrie Hiscock (husband Wilbert, Grand Beach); and a circle of other relatives and friends. Captain Laverne Fudge conducted funeral services from Salvation Army Citadel, Garnish, Tuesday, July 8. Interment was at Salvation Army Cemetery, Garnish. Organist was Bella Moulton. Pallbearers were Wayne Anstey, Gordon Myles, Lou Moulton, Max Hiscock, Jeff Smith, and Chesley Farewell. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank. BANFIELD, John "Charlie"
Passed peacefully away Wednesday, July 16 at the Kingston General Hospital in Kingston, Ontario, with his family by his side, John "Charlie" Banfield, beloved husband for 47 years of Madeline. Predeceased by his brother Eric and parents Elizabeth and Celestine. Dearly loved father of Theresa, Charlaine, Coleen and John. Dear "Pappy" of Colin, Christopher, Derek, Sandy, Samantha and Victoria Grace. Survived by his sister Violet McCarthy. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the Township Chapel of Gordon F. Thompkins, Waterloo Village, Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Linus Church in Bath, Ontario, Sunday, July 19 at 11 a.m. followed by cremation. Memorial donations to the Kingston Regional Cancer Centre or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated. "Never say good bye, say "Tootle-Loo"." Passed away suddenly July 13, Samuel Joseph Brake of Elgin County in Ontario, formerly of Marystown. He was 38-years-old. Predeceased by mother Mary and father Benedict. Left to mourn are brothers Hughie of Kitchener, Ontario; Bill (wife Paula) of Winterland; Ben (wife Karen) of Conception Bay South and Mike (wife Theresa) of Kitchener; sisters Wanda (husband Kitchener) of Burgeo; Anne (husband Max) of Marystown and Mona (husband Frank) of Marystown. Also left to mourn are four nephews Perry, Jordon, Cameron and Ian; four nieces Chelsea, Jennifer, Michelle and Stephanie. Passed suddenly away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre, Thomas A. Coady of Little Bay. He was 51 years old. Predeceased by mother Annie, father Dominic and sister Maureen. Passed suddenly away Wednesday, June 25 at Lamaline, Laura Marie Collins of Lawn. She was 80 years old. Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on July 11th, 2003 Margaret Collins of Collin's Cove in her 62nd year. Predeceased by her husband Harvey and sister Ada. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories sons Sandy (Carol-Ann) of Burin, Jason (Jackie) of Burin, Derek (Sherry) of Burin; daughter Donna-Joyce of Jacques Fontaine; 6 grandchildren; sisters Hester Foote (Eldon) of Kirby's Cove and Gertie Noakes (William) of Montreal; brother Cecil Brewer (Florence) of Epworth plus a large circle of other family and friends. CURREY, Rev. John Ellis
Passed away at the Plummer Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at the age of 81. Born in Durham, Ontario May 17, 1922, the only child of Judge Brock & Dorothy (Pollock) Currey, both deceased. John married Dorine (Babe) (nee Morden) on November 2, 1943, who survives him. Also survived by his son Christopher John Currey of Sault Ste. Marie. Predeceased by a daughter Jane Ann. Missed by his canine friend "Roxy." John grew up in Gore Bay on Manitoulin Island. He attended Victoria University, U of T from 1945-47 and then attended Osgood Hall. He also graduated from Ontario College of Education and Emmanuel College. John was called to the Ministry in 1955. Throughout his life, John served in the Royal Canadian Navy and survived a torpedo attack and shipwreck. He was employed by CPR on steam locomotives for 3 years. He served his pastorate in Toronto at Fred Victor Mission for 11 years. He served pastorates in Newfoundand until his retirement at 75 years of age. He was also Navy chaplain for RCN of Eastern Newfoundland and Chaplain of the Canadian Legion in Fortune, Newfoundland. He also published a book of "Sailors and Their Ships" telling the true story of life on the seas of Newfoundland. Until the time of his death, John had 2 gospel radio broadcasts in Newfoundland and was a columnist in four Newfoundland papers. Funeral service from Garnish United Church on Sunday, July 6, 2003 at 2 p.m. Interment Garnish, Newfoundland. Memorial contributions to the Garnish United Church Building fund or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

DECKER, Ralph R.
Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander, June 20, 2003, Ralph R. Decker, formerly of Clarenville, in his 88th year. Predeceased by wife Nellie. Left to mourn are his son Jeremy (wife Diane) of Gander; sisters Betty in Stephenville and Alma in Paradise; brothers George in Joe Batt's Arm and Howard in Clarenville; three grandchildren Jennifer, Danielle and Brent. Passed peacefully away at the US Memorial Hospital, June 18th, 2003 Benjamin Dibbon of Port au Bras in his 70th year. Predeceased by wife, Doris. Passed away suddenly July 4, at the Toronto East General, Neil Edwards of Creston South. He was 59 years old. Predeceased by father Francis and Nephew Britt. Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on July 13th, 2003 Dermott Patrick Roul of Lawn in his 56th year. Predeceased by father and mother Columbus and Mary Jane Roul. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories wife Creusa; daughter Tracy (Dion) of Burin; sons Derm of Grand Falls-Windsor and Derrick (Stacy) of St. John's; sister Laurella (Ted Stacey) of St. Lawrence; brothers Tom (Elsie) of Brampton, Columbus (Jean) of Lawn; Randy (Merle) of Brampton and John (Darlene) of Gander; grandson Brock plus a large number of other family and friends. Father Costello officiated funeral mass from Holy Name of Jesus Church with interment following at St. Anne's Cemetery, Lawn. Pallbearers Derek Kearney, Walter Kearney, Donny Lambe, Adrian Roul, James Jackman and Tom Rennie. Crossbearer Wince Strang. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Burin. Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on July 12th, 2003 Charles B. Smith of Brookside in his 79th year. Predeceased by wife Louise and parents William and Caroline. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories son Ken and wife Wanda of Brookside; brother William (Martha) of Brookside; sister Elizabeth (Max Head) of New Brunswick plus a large circle of other family and friends. Funeral service was officiated by Rev. Charlie Harris on July 15th from Church of Ascension, Brookside with interment following at Anglican Cemetery, Brookside. Pallbearers Keith Smith, Max Head, Pad Helpert, Tom King, Ren Smith, Edie King. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Burin. "WE CARE."

Passed peacefully away Saturday, June 28, at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre, Mary Synard of Parker's Cove. She was 75 years old. Predeceased by son Kenny and mother Elizabeth. Left to mourn are her loving husband Edward; sons Ambrose (wife Mary) of Ontario, Joseph (wife Caroline) of Ontario, Gordon (wife Helen) of Ontario, Edward (wife Bernadette) of Parker's Cove, Alonzo (wife Lucy) of Parker's Cove, William (wife Beverly) of Parker's Cove, Gerard (wife Erlita) of Ontario, Norman (wife Viola) of Parker's Cove and Clayton (wife Sejal) of South Carolina; daughters Elizabeth (husband Alan Parson) of Calgary, Angela (husband Ron Moreau) of Ontario, Madonna (husband Chris Rogers) of St. John's and Marjorie of Michigan; 30 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Steve Murrin conducted funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes in Parker's Cove Tuesday, July 1. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Parker's Cove. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Homes, Marystown. Pallbearers were Clayton Synard, Norman Synard, Gerard Synard, Alonzo Synard, Edward Synard and Gordon Synard. Cross bearer was William Synard.

Passed peacefully away Thursday, June 26 at U.S. Memorial Hospital in St. Lawrence, Winnifred M. Walsh, of Marystown. She was 87. Predeceased by husband Philip in 1964. Left to mourn are sons Naraissus (wife Adele) of Marystown, Philip (wife Pauline) of Marystown, Pat (wife Mary) of Marystown, Leo (wife Mary) of Marystown, Dennis (wife Joan) of Marystown and Kevin (wife Geraldine) of St. John's; daughters Bridget (late husband Gord Keating) of Stephenville, Cecilia of Stephenville, Cathy (late husband Gerard Bailey) of Marystown, Josephine (husband Ed Thorburn) of Campbell River, B.C. and Winnie (husband Ray Banfield) of Iqualit, Nunavit. Also leaving to mourn are sisters Minnie Antle at Mount Margaret Manor, 47 grandchildren and 59 great-grandchildren. Father Ray Earle conducted the funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Marystown Monday, June 30. Interment was at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Homes, Marystown. Pallbearers were Paul Walsh, Sean Walsh, Dale Walsh, Jonathan Walsh, Ben Lewis and Andrew Laffin. Cross Bearer was Trudy Smith.
