BENTEAU, Harriet A.
Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, Harriet A. Benteau of Point May. She was 88 years old. Predeceased by husband David in 1989 and son Gregory in 1990. Left to mourn are sons Maurice (Anne) of Halifax, Dave (Annie) of Torbay, Raphael (Hilda) of Torbay, Leo (Catherine) of Edmonton, Clem (Melinda), Tom (Linda) and Tom (Evelyn) of Point May; Rose (Tom Gale) of Halifax and Lucy (Gerald Stacey) of Point May; daughter-in-law Darlene Benteau of Point May; 33 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild. Also leaving to mourn sisters Lucy Hennebury of Halifax, Emily (Eddie Turtle) of Goose Bay, Anne Marie Cuza of Point May and Rose Walsh at Torbay and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral Mass took place at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, from the Church of the Most Holy Rosary, Point May. Internment followed at Roman Catholic Cemetery, Point May. Officiating clergy were brother Gerald Craig, OFM, CAP and sister Maureen Lawlor. Pallbearers were Shawn Benteau, Adam Benteau, Chris Gale, Curtis Benteau, Gregory Benteau and David Benteau. Cross bearer was Harry Slaney. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank.
Note: The two sons listed Tom (Linda) and Tom (Evelyn) are as listed in the announcement.

GRANDY, Elsie
Passed peacefully away Tuesday, Feb 18 at the Blue Crest Nursing Home, Grand Bank, Elsie Grandy of Garnish. She was 91 years old. Beloved wife of the late Harold K. Grandy, loving mother of the late Clyde Grandy and survived by her dear daughter-in-law Doreen of Ottawa. Also predeceased by sister Beatrice Strowbridge. Cherished grandmother of Judy (Herb) Dean and Scott (Diane) Grandy of Ottawa. Doting great-grandmother of Doug, Jeff and Mark Dean of Ottawa. Arrangements for a memorial service, following cremation, will be finalized in the spring. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Homes, Marystown.

GRANDY, Jesse
Passed peacefully away at Health Sciences Centre, St. John's, on Feb. 20, 2003, Mr. Jesse Grandy of Burin in his 85th year. Predeceased by Grace and Russell. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion - Branch 29, Hiram Masonic Lodge #4, Boot Shine Club, and Atlantic Chapter of Royal Arch Masons. Leaving to mourn, son: Shawn of Corner Brook; daughter: Irene of Corner Brook; stepchildren: Ernest, Effie and Shane; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Berdina Ford, assisted by Rev. Robert Peddle, at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Burin on Feb. 23 at 2:00 p.m. Internment was at Hodder's Point Anglican Cemetery in Salmonier, Burin. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Patient Travel Fund of Boot Shrine Club. Pallbearers were Max Matthews, Randy Moulton, Gerald Mayo, Gordon Cheeseman, Gordon Hickman, Wayne Mayo, Wayne Dodge and Frank Inkpen. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Geoff Lomond of Peninsula Funeral Home Ltd., Creston South.

GRANDY, Vera M.
Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, Vera M. Grandy of Garnish. She was 89 years old. Predeceased by husband Cyril, parents Susannah and George Banfield, brother Gabriel, sisters Eliza Grandy and Ester Harris. Left to mourn are brother Harvey (wife Blanche) of Grand Bank, niece Kathleen Green and family, nephew Bill and Freda Grandy and family, niece Sharon and Sam Barnes and family and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service took place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, from St. Giles Anglican Church, Garnish. Internment followed at the Anglican Cemetery, Garnish. Officiating clergy was Reverend Robert Peddle. Organist was Elizabeth Cluett. Pallbearers were Sterling Barnes, Alvin Greene, Wilfred Evans, Joey Poulain, Freeman Grandy Jr. and Steven Grandy. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Warren's Funeral Home.

HILLIER, Beatrice
Passed peacefully away in the presence of her loving family at the Grand Bank Community Health Care Centre Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, Beatrice Hillier of Fortune. She was 93 years old. Predeceased by husband Cyrus in 1995. Left to mourn are sons Gerald, Clyde (Judy) of Fortune and Melvin (Kay) at Torbay; daughters Gladys (Herman) Miller at Shelbourne, NS, Pearl (Leigh) Baker, at Hamilton, Ontario, Joyce (Montford) Pritchett at Upper Gullies, Stella Keats at St. John's and Violet (Maurice) Baker at Hillview; sister Sadie Farrant at Toronto; special family friend Alice Brake of Marystown; 20 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren along with other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, from All Saints Anglican Church, Fortune. Internment followed at All Saints Anglican Cemetery, Fortune. Officiating clergy was Reverend James Pollard. Organist was Greta Price. Pallbearers were Lloyd Hillier, Kevin Hillier, Reuben Hillier, Gilbert Ayres, Harvey Tulk and Roy Hillier. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank.

HUNT, Camillus J.
Passed away suddenly at his home in Rushoon on Feb. 4, 2003, Mr. Camillus J. Hunt of Rushoon in his 79th year. Predeceased by wife - Mary, brothers - Michael & Thomas and his sister - Mary. Leaving to mourn, brothers: Bill of Grand Prairie, AB; Maurice of Rushoon, Adrian (wife, Susie) of Rushoon. Sister - Mary (husband Richard Roche) of Chamberlains. Nieces and nephews and a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by Sister Cecilia Lambe at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Rushoon on Feb. 8, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. Interment was at the Christ the King Roman Catholic Cemetery in Rushoon. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Burin Peninsula Health Care Foundation. Pall bearers were Terry Hunt, Paul Hunt, Rick Hunt, Wade Hunt, Darren Hunt, Lyndon Pike, cross bearer Richard Roche. HYNES, Lillian (nee Myles)
Passed peacefully away at the L.A. Miller Centre on February 13, 2003, age 82 years. Predeceased by her husband Thomas, July 1970. Left with fond and loving memories, her children; John (Marion), Bill (Lillian), Tom (Catherine), Hugh (Daisy), Rita Pynn (Dawson); grandchildren: Katrina, Kelly, Tom, Neil, Julia, Rhonda, David, Anne, Samantha, Vance; great-grandchildren: Mark, Daniel, and Liam; brothers: Arch (Minnie), Bill (Ada), John; sister: Evelyn LeRiche; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Rested at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation was on Saturday from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass was held Monday, February 17th, 2003, at 9:30a.m. from Mary Queen of Peace Church, Torbay Road. Cremation followed. Donations in her memory may be made to the Newfoundland Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Passed peacefully away at the U.S. Memorial Hospital Feb 6, 2003 William M. Kearney of Little St. Lawrence. He was 87 years old. Predeceased by wife Kate and daughter Emma. Left to mourn are sons Bob of Little St. Lawrence and Bill (wife Noella) of British Columbia. Also leaving to mourn are sisters Alice Edwards and Kate Edwards and brother Bob Kearney, all of St. Lawrence; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Passed peacefully away at the Burin peninsula Health Care Centre, Friday, Feb. 21, Eileen J. King, of Red Harbour. She was 64 years old. Predeceased by father John and brother Scott. Passed peacefully away at the Blue Crest Home, Wednesday, Feb. 26, Louisa M. Peach, known as "Dolly", of Winterland. She was 83 years old. Predeceased by sister Hattie Bennett. Passed peacefully away at U.S. Memorial Hospital, St. Lawrence on Feb. 12, 2003, Mrs. Melinda Mary Walsh of Allan's Island in her 85th year. Predeceased by husband - Peter, sons - Charles and David. Leaving to mourn, sons: John (wife Clarissa) of Fortune, Alex of Allan's Island, Pat (wife Sheila) of Jacques Fontaine, Peter (wife Madonna) of Allan's Island, Bill (wife Brenda) of Allan's Island; daughters: Kate (husband Sylvester Edwards) of Lawn, Anne (husband Patrick Flannigan) of Lawn, Mary (husband Chris Edwards) of Lawn, Donnie (husband Eli Stacey) of Point May; 30 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by Sister Maureen Lawlor at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Allan's Island, on Feb. 14, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. Internment was at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Cemetery in Allan's Island. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family in aid of the Alzheimer's Association. Pall bearers were David Stacey, Darren Stacey, Clint Walsh, Sheldon Walsh, Frankie Walsh, and Johnny Walsh. Crossbearer was Frank Edwards. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Geoff Lomond of Peninsula Funeral Home Ltd., Creston South.
