Passed peacefully away Saturday, August 20, 2005, at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre, Mary M. Ashford of Fortune, Left to mourn are her husband James; sons Angus (wife Bernice) of Fortune, Ronald of Hamilton, ON, Charles (wife Maxine) and Donald of Etopia, ON; daughters Barbara (husband George Cumben), Louise (husband Bill Lee) both of Grand Bank, Elizabeth (husband Bob Thorne) of Corner Brook, Cecilia (husband Clyde Power) of Creston South, Anita of Fredericton, NB and Bernadette of Fortune; 19 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Frank Puddister conducted Funeral Mass from All Saints Anglican Church in Fortune, Monday, August 22 with interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Marystown. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Home, Fortune. Pallbearers were: Marie Trimm, Crystal Ashford, Tony Ashford, Bradley Power, Stan Trimm and Bill Lee. Cross bearer was Shantel Ashford.

BENNETT, Thomas W.
Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on Friday, August 12, 2005 Thomas W. Bennett of Grand Bank, age 71 years. Predeceased by parents Alexander and Gladys Bennett. leaving to mourn are: wife Bernice, daughter Marie Grikis (Rick) at Grand Bank; sons, George (Mary) at Grand Bank; Paul (Myra) at St. Lawrence; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; brother John (Hettie) at Grand Bank; and sisters-in-law Gladys Hardy at Grand Bank and Emily Smith (Irving) at Hampsted, New Hampshire. Also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral Service was conducted by Rev. Chris Andrews on Monday, August 15 at 2 p.m. from the United Church, Grand Bank. Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery, Grand Bank. Organist was Margaret Mullins. Pallbearers were: Paul Bennett, John Bennett, Fred Bennett, Alex Bennett, Harvey Brenton, Max Hickman, Leroy Dunford and Claude Myles. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank where we believe in serving others as we ourselves would like to be served.

BOLAND, Mary J.
Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre, Burin on Thursday, August 4, 2005, Mary J. Boland of Point May age 81 years. Predeceased by husband William, parents William and Bridget Stacey, daughters Mary hillier, Bernadette Boland, Selena Boland, sons John W. Boland, Eric Boland, grandchildren Mark and Megan Boland, Michael Stacey, brothers Anthony Stacey, Sylvester Stacey, Patrick Stacey. Left to mourn are special friend Herbert Fitzpatrick, 2 daughters Evelina Stacey (Peter) at Point May, Annette Boland at St. John's, 3 sons Allan (Mary) at Point May, Edward (Betty) at Point May, Louis (Ann) at Nova Scotia, son-in-law John B. Hillier at Point May, sister Elizabeth Parsons at St. Lawrence, 23 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was conducted by Sister Maureen Lawlor on Sunday, August 7, 2005 from the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic church, Point May. Interment in the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Allan Boland, Edward Boland, Louis Boland, Edward Boland (Jr), Patrick Stacey and Peter Stacey. Crossbearer was John B. Hillier. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Warren's Funeral home, Grand Bank where we believe in serving others as we ourselves would like to be served.

Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Complex, St. John's on Thursday, July 14, 2005 Patrick Drake of St. Lawrence in his 74th year. Predeceased by parents Mabel and David; four brothers, one sister; and granddaughter Jessie Marie. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories wife Madeline; sons Jim (Donna) of Burin, Bill (Marie Luce) of St. Pierre, Wade (Maxine) of Wabush, Noel of Grand Prairie, Cyril (Vickie) of St. Lawrence; daughters Glenda (Henry) of St. Lawrence, Lynn (Hubert) of St. Lawrence, Tanya of Mississippi, U.S.; brothers Thomas (Bibiana) of St. Lawrence, David (Lydia) of Chamberlains; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Sharon (John) of Epworth; brother-in-law James (Catherine) of Ajax, Ontario plus a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Frank Puddister officiated funeral mass on July 18th from St. Thomas Aquinas Church, St. Lawrence with interment following at Mount Cecilia Cemetery, St. Lawrence. FARRELL, Celestine A.
Passed peacefully away August 4, 2005 at the Blue Crest Home, Grand Bank Celestine A. Farrell of Little Bay. He was 87 years old. Predeceased by parents James and Mary, two brothers and three sisters. Left to mourn are wife Anne, sisters Selena Farrell, sister-in-law Madge, brothers-in-law Aloysius Farrell and Rupert Pittman and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father William Hann conducted funeral mass at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Marystown August 8 with interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Little Bay. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Homes. Pallbearers were Derm Farrell, Dean Power, Rupert Pittman, Calvin Pittman, Doug Powell and Robert Norman. Cross bearer was Stephen Farrell.

Passed peacefully away Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at St. Clare's Hospital in St. John's, John James Hackett (known as Jack Hackett) of English Harbour East in his 73rd year. Predeceased by his wife Bernice; sons Johnny McCarthy, sisters Frances of Postalwait and nephew Kevin Hackett. Left to mourn are his son Gregory (wife Corrine) of Paradise; daughters Priscilla (finance Barry Clarke) of English Harbour East, Beverly (husband Phil Linfield) of Surrey, BC., Dee-Anne (husband Leroy Bolt) of St. john's and Melissa (husband Eric Simpson) of London, ON; six grandchildren: Joshua, Jeremy, Jordan, Dawson, Mikayla and Mackenzie. Also leaving to mourn sisters Adelia Murphy of Vancouver, BC., Rita Evans of Paradise, Zita Dunphy of Tors Cove and Bessel McDaniel of Marrero, USA; brothers Leo of Faro, Yukon, Victor of MacKenzie, BC., Gerard of Paradise and Bobby of Terrenceville and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Purcell conducted Funeral Mass at St. Anne's roman Catholic Church in English Harbour East, Monday, August 22 with interment in the R.C. Cemetery in English Harbour East. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Homes, Marystown. Pallbearers were: Barry Clarke, Brian Kearley, Elroy Mitchell, Tony Hackett, Stan Byrd and Dwayne Byrd. HOLLETT, Blanche
Passed peacefully away at the Blue Crest Inter-faith home on Saturday, August 20, 2005, A. Blanche Hollett of Grand Bank, age 85 years. Predeceased by parents Manuel and Elsie Pittman; brother Manuel Pittman; sister Vera Snook, grandson Duane Hollett and daughter-in-law Christine Hollett. Laving to mourn: daughters Elsie Price (Albert) at Grand Bank, Vera Jennings (Chuck) at South Carolina; sons Clyde (Sadie) at Simcoe, ON, Harold (Rowena) at Grand Bank, and Max (Ethel) at Grand Bank; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also a circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was conducted by Majors Frank and Rita Pittman, assisted by ACSM Kathy Bungay on Tuesday, August 23rd at 2 pm from the Salvation Army Citadel, Grand Bank. Music was provided by Herbert Dunford. Pallbearers were: Max Hollett, Shawn Hollett, Brian Piercey, Glenn Price, Chris Stone and Rick Stone. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank were dedicated people care.

Passed peacefully away at the Burin Health Care Centre on Sunday, July 24, 2005 Walter Hollett of Lewin's Cove in his 82nd year. Predeceased by parents George and Eleanor; brothers Norman, Kenneth, George and Herbert; sisters Marjorie and Hannah. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories wife Helen; sons Keith (Joanne) of Lewin's Cove, Wade (Loretta) of Lewin's Cove, Lewis (Elaine) of Lewin's Cove; daughters Marie (Irving Bursey) of Makinsons, NL., Julie (Dale Wilson) of Eastern Passage, N.S., Mildred (Andrew Lundrigan) of Lewin's Cove, Ella Taylor of St. Lawrence; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and special grandson Michael; twin sister Bertha Wiscombe of Ontario plus a large circle of other family and friends. Rev. Susan White officiated funeral service on July 27th from Hope United Church, Lewin's Cove with interment following at Hope United Cemetery, Lewin's Cove. ISAACS, Veronica
Passed peacefully away August 1, 2005 at the U.S. Memorial Hospital in St. Lawrence, Veronica Isaacs of Lord's Cove. She was 81 years old. Predeceased by husbands William Isaacs and Louis Fitzpatrick, son Patrick, granddaughter Jennifer and grandson Cory. Left to mourn are sons William (wife Margaret) of Lawn and Noel (wife Janice) of St. Lawrence; daughters Anne (husband Curtis Pynn) of Carbonear, Maureen (husband Philip Cull) of Clarenville, Brenda (husband Clem Grant) of Carbonear and Aundriette of St. Lawrence. Also leaving to mourn are 20 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Frank Puddister conducted funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Lord's Cove. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of white Dove Funeral Homes, Marystown. KAVANAGH, Barbara
Passed peacefully away Wednesday, August 24, 2005, at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre after a brief illness, Barbara Kavanagh of Fox Cove. She was 77 years old. Predeceased by her husband Gordon. Left to mourn are sons Patrick (wife Margaret) of Burin and Alobert (wife Joan) of Fox Cove; daughters Sharon (husband Alphonsus Murphy) of Fox Cove and Margaret (husband Rick Abbott) of Brooks, AB; sister Mary Hannam of Jean de Baie; 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Charlie Kelly conducted Funeral Mass at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Burin Saturday, August 27th with interment in the R.C. Cemetery at Fox Cove. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to White Dove Funeral homes, Salt Pond, Burin. Pallbearers were: Patrick Antle, Pat Power, Ernest Kavanagh, Alphonsus Murphy, Gordon Kavanagh, Martin Hannan, Albert Kavanagh and Pad Kavanagh. Cross bearer was Danny Antle.

Passed suddenly away at his residence, Mortier on Saturday, July 30, 2005, Glen Kirby of Mortier in his 46th year. Predeceased by father Gerald, father-in-law Clayton Antle and niece Lyndsey Antle. Passed peacefully away Monday, August 22, 2005 at her home in St. Bernard's, Florence M. Myles in her 89th years. Predeceased by husband Austin; daughters Vivian and Christina. Left to mourn are son Bill (wife Margaret); daughters Loretta (husband Richard Edwards) and Bernice (husband Tom Scott) all of St. Bernard's; sisters Ursula Loder and Hannah Meaney of St. Bernard's; brothers Doug Hodder of St. Bernard's and Jim Hodder of St. Lawrence; a large number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. PENNY, Lillian   
November 16, 1919 - August 3, 2005
Lillian (Senior) Penny
passed away peacefully August 3, 2005 at the Burin Hospital, in the company of her family. Lillian was 85 years of age. She enjoyed a full life surrounded by her loving family. Lillian (Senior) Penny was born in Port Elizabeth, Placentia Bay November 16, 1919 to Oliver and Lilly (Moulton) Senior. Lillian married Leonard Penny of Tack's Beach, Placentia Bay at age 18, January 13, 1938 and began her family. Together they had 10 adoring children; Margaret, Alma (deceased at three months); Vera; Carl; Cecil; Norman; Calvin; Clara; Lawrence and Melvin. Lillian lovingly raised her family at Tack's Beach until 1965 when they resettled in Fortune, Fortune Bay. She was proud to watch her children grow up and see them prosper to raise families of their own. She enjoyed 23 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Lillian is survived by her children and beloved husband and by her brother and sisters Annie, Clayton, George, Jessie, Clyde and Ross. Lillian was a devoted wife, a loving mother and an indulgent grandmother. She was greatly loved and admired by her husband Leonard, and all of her children and grandchildren. She will be sadly missed and always held in cherished memories by her family and friends. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Homes, Fortune.

Passed peacefully away Sunday, August 21, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer, Antonia Slaney of St. Lawrence in her 84th year. Predeceased by her parents, Valentine and Monica; husband Edward; two brothers; one sister and children Robert and Lewis. Left to mourn are sons, Clyde (wife Hattie) of St. John's, John of Little Bay East, Reginald (wife Lorna) of Timmins, ON, Donald (wife Pauline) of Corner Brook. Passed away at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John's on Sunday, August 21, 2005, Charles Walters of Grand Bank, age 54 years. Predeceased by father Charles Walters. Leaving to mourn: son Danny (Wanda) at St. John's, grandchildren Jacob and Kathleen; mother Clara Walters at Grand Bank; father-in-law and mother-in-law Sandy and Gladys Bungay at Grand Bank; sisters Pauline Card (Ed) at Toronto, Judy Hickman (Sim) at Grand Bank, Grace Kelly (Kevin) at Grand Bank and Vicki Walters at St. John's; brothers Philip (Elaine) at Halifax, Keith (Dianne) at St. John's brother-in-law Lindsay Bungay (Gladys) at Grand Bank. Also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was conducted by Majors Frank and Rita Pittman, assisted by ACSM Kathy Bungay on Monday, August 22 at 5 pm from Warren's Funeral home. Music was provided by Tom Cumben. Cremation followed, with interment at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Grand Bank, on Wednesday, August 24th. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral home, Grand Bank, where dedicated people care.

WARREN, Charlotte H.
Passed peacefully away at the Blue Crest Inter-faith Home on Monday, August 22, 2005, Charlotte H. Warren of Grand Bank, age 75 years. Predeceased by parents Harry and Carletta Grandy; parents-in-law Albert and Jane Warren; grandchildren Baby Warren and Agnus Thornhill; great-grandchild Brianna Herridge and son-in-law Charlie Thornhill. Leaving to mourn: husband James; daughters Major Carletta Thornhill at North Bay, ON; sons Perce (Pam) at Grand Bank, Joe (Sandra) at Grand Bank, Bruce (Nina) at Grand Bank; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; brothers Stanley Grandy (Vivian) at Grand Bank; Joe Grandy at Grand Bank. Also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was conducted by Major Carletta Thornhill, assisted by Majors Frank and Rita Pittman and ACSM Kathy Bungay on Wednesday, August 24th at 2 pm from the Salvation Army Citadel, Grand Bank. Interment followed at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Grand Bank. Music was provided by the Salvation Army Band. Pallbearers were: Geoff Warren, Percy Warren, Earla Warren, Jennifer Savoury, Cheryl Alcock and Kiley Herridge. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank, where dedicated people care.

WHYTE, Elizabeth   
Passed peacefully away August 13, 2005 Elizabeth Whyte, of South East Bight. She was 87 years old. She was predeceased by husband Sylvester. Left to mourn are sons: Dermott (wife Madonna) of Petit Forte, Sylvester (wife Anne) of South East Bight, James (wife Catherine) of South East Bight, Bernard (wife Rebecca) of South East Bight, Thomas (wife Debbie) of South East Bight, daughters: Margaret (husband Peter Jones) of South East Bight, Ellen Murphy of South East Bight, Nora (husband Joseph Emberley) of Southern Harbour, Angela (husband Anthony Jones) of Paradise, Annie May (husband Barry O'Neil) of Paradise. Also left to mourn are 26 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. Father Charlie Kelly conducted the funeral service at R.C. church in South East Bight, on Monday, August 15, 2005. Interment was at R.C. Cemetery in South East Bight. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Home in Marystown. Pallbearers were Johnny Murphy, Eugene Murphy, Keith Emberley, Gary Whyte, Roderick Whyte, and Jamie Whyte. Crossbearer was Tony Janes.
