Seward, Eileen - Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G.  B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Sunday, August 29, 2004 Eileen Seward of Gooseberry Cove. Predeceased by her husband, Edmund; parents, James and Bertha Smith; brother, Roy Smith, and sister, Eva Dean. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories her daughter, Audrey (Graham) Seward, Gooseberry Cove; sone Herman (Myra), Gooseberry Cove; sisters Minnie (Colin) Ryan, Shoal Harbour; brother, Harvey (Marjorie), Gooseberry Cove; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a large circle of friends and relatives. Funeral took place on Tuesday, August 31, 2004 from Bethany United Church, Southport, with interment at Bethany United Cemetery.

 

Hobbs, Martha Emmalena - Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on August 27, 2004, after a short battle with cancer, Martha Emmalena Hobbs, age 64, from Bunyans Cove. Leaving to mourn with many precious memories, her husband, Gordon; children Florence Avery (Shawn), Lorraine Chatman (Lyman), Marion Hobbs (Jack Ford), Lester Hobbs (Janice); brothers, William Penney (Iris), Hezekiah Penney (Daphne); sister Olive Dwyer (Clyde Hodder); sister-in-law, Daphne Penney; brother-in-law, Reginald Rowsell; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Rested at the St. Michael and All Angels Church, Bunyan’s Cove from where the funeral service officiated by Rev. Chuck  Lockhart, took place on August 30, 2004 with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy’s Funeral Home, Random Island.

 

Stacey, Wilfred - Passed peacefully away on Sunday, August 29, 2004 Wilfred Stacey of Little Heart’s Ease in his 62nd year. Predeceased by parents, Albert and Lucinda Stacey and brother, William Stacey. Left with fond and loving memories his wife, Audrey of 37 years; daughter, Debbie Martin (Cluny) Little Heart’s Ease; sisters, Mary Spurrell, Little Heart’s Ease, Daphne Thomas (Garfield), Corner Brook, Lena Price (Corbett), Ontario, Annie Whalen (Edward), Little Heart’s Ease; brothers, Charles (Jessie), Little Heart’s Ease, Cliff (Valerie), Ontario, Alf (Audrey) Kilbride; and one granddaughter, Kayla. Also a large circle of friends and relatives. Funeral took place from the Salvation Army Citadel, Little Heart’s Ease on Wednesday, September 1, 2004. With interment at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Little Heart’s Ease. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to a charity of ones choice.

 

Pardy, Randell Thomas - It is with great sadness the family of the late Randell Thomas Pardy, age 79, from Harbour Mille, announce his passing at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on August 29, 2004. Predeceased by his wife, Abigail Leaving to mourn with many fond and loving memories are his only child, Ivy (Charles Price); foster child, Russell; grandchildren, Raymond (Lorreta), Nina (Randy Hussey), Sophie (Archie MacDonald). Olga (Dan Myles); 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mabel (Cecil Freeborne), Dulcie Banfield, Shelia (Freeman Howse), Ruby Pike (friend Jerry), and many other relatives and friends. Rested at St. Mary’s Church, Harbour Mille from where the funeral service , officiated by Rev. C. Harris, took place on September 1, 2004 with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy’s Funeral Home, Random Island.

Short, Scott Reginald - Passed peacefully away at the Bonavista Health Centre, Sept. 7, 2004, Scott Short, aged 59 years. Predeceased by his infant son Reginald; parents Frank and Vida; sister Joan; brother Hayward; mother and father-in-law Hubert and Annie Street; and brother-in-law Gus Street and Sam Cooper. Left with loving memories are his wife and partner in life Joyce; son Wayne (Carolyn) at Leduc, Alberta; daughter Paulette (Don) Emberley at St. John’s, NL; sisters Lillie (Ches) King at Hant’s Harbour, NL, Pearl Cooper at Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, Mildred Noble at Grand Falls-Windsor, NL and Geraldine (Ian) Murdock at Mount Pearl, NL; brothers-in-law Lewis (Delores) Street at Amherst Cove, NL, Sam Street at Spillars Cove, NL, Fred (Connie) Street at Spillars Cove, NL, and Clyde (Diane) Street st Catalina, NL; sister-in-law Myrtle Street at Spillars Cove, NL; and a large circle of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. Visitation at Strathie’s Funeral Home, Bonavista, NL, Friday and Saturday, September 10 and 11, 2004, 10a.m. - 10 p.m. Funeral service took place Sunday, September 12, 2004, at Christ Anglican Church, Bonavista, with interment at the Anglican Cemetery, Bonavista, NL. As an expression of sympathy, flowers are being gratefully accepted.

 

Piercey, Frederick Melvin - Passed peacefully away at the Pentecostal Seniors Complex, Clarke’s Beach, on September 4, 2004, Frederick Melvin Piercey, age 84, formerly from Hickman’s Harbour. Leaving to mourn a number of nieces and nephews, as well as a large number of relatives and friends. Rested at Vardy’s Funeral Home, Hickman’s Harbour, Random Island. Funeral service, officiated by Majors Robert and Ruby Froude, assisted by Captains Mr. & Mrs. Chaulk, took place on September 7, 2004, from the Salvation Army, Hickman’s Harbour, with interment following.

Ivany, Violet - Passed away at Gander Hospital on September 2, 2004, Violet Ivany, age 73, of Gander, formerly of Clarenville. Predeceased by husband Wallace, parents Arthur and Lily Stanley, sisters Shirley and Susie and brother Zeb. Leaving to mourn daughters Carol (Austin), Marlie (Craig) and Susan (Paul); grandchildren Jason (Karla), Justin (Heather), Sara, Nicholas and Kelly; great-grandson Parker; sisters Dulcie and Sadie; brother Wilson; as well as a circle of relatives and friends. Rested at Stacey’s Funeral Home in Gander and interment followed at the United Cemetery, in Clarenville. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Central Northeast Health Foundation, P.O. Box 222, Gander, NL, A1V 1W6 

 

Simmons, Clarence G. - Passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2004, at the Health Science Complex, Clarence Simmons of St. John’s, age 57 years. Predeceased by his mother Edna Simmons. Left with fond and loving memories his wife Daphne, daughter Zanesha; father James; sister Jane Stone (Clifford); mother-in-law Bessie; brothers-in-law Wayne Smith and Barry Smith (Sue); sister-in-law Connie Smith (Michael Covin) and son Matthew; nephews Wayne Stone (Arlene) and daughter Larissa; Gregory Stone (Shadi). Also leaving to mourn, his son Jaison, other relatives and a large circle of friends and co-workers. Rested at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. Visitation took  place on Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m, and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral service was held at the Salvation Army St. John’s West Corps, Mundy Pond, on Sunday, September 5, 2004, 2 p.m. Interment followed at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Blackmarsh Road. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

 

Hobbs, Simeon - Passed away on September 1, 2004, at the Bonavista Hospital, Simeon Hobbs, age 92, from Port Blandford. Leaving to mourn are his daughters Joan Keats (Hector), Viola Greening (Cyril), Mary White and Rowena Greening (Clyde); sons Wilfred (Grace), Joe (Barbara) and Calvin (Shelley); 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rested at St. Aidan’s Anglican Church from where the funeral service, officiated by Rev. E. Squires, took place on Saturday, September 4, 2004, with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy’s Funeral Home, Random Island.

Little, Myrtus - of Musgravetown, age 97, passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on September 5, 2004. Predeceased by her husband Jack and son Harvey. Leaving to mourn with fond memories her daughter Jean Moore, son-in-law George, sister Ella Matthews, sister-in-law Cave Greening, grandchildren David and John Moore, great-granddaughter Linda N M. Hopkins and many other relatives and friends. Remains rested at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Lethbridge. Funeral was officiated by Rev. Nancy Majoica-Fisher at Heritage United Church, Musgravetown, on September 8. Interment at United Cemetery, Musgravetown.

Barrett, Benjamin - Passed peacefully away at his home on Tuesday, September 14, 2004, Benjamin S. Barrett of Arnold’s Cove (formerly of Tack’s Beach) aged 81 years. Predeceased by sister Maude. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Susie Mae; step-sister Lorraine (Alex); brother-in-law Earl (Winnie); sister-in-law Susie Lockyer; a large number of nieces and nephews and special friends Clarence and Phyllis Guy. Rested at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Arnold’s Cove. Funeral service held on Thursday, September 16, 2004, from St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Arnold’s Cove, with interment at Interfaith Cemetery, Arnold’s Cove.

 

Moss, Alice V. - Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Thursday September 9, 2004, Alice V. Moss of Jamestown, aged 81 years. Predeceased by her husband Andrew. Leaving to mourn her daughter Sandra (Don Blackmore) at Port Blandford; sons Fraser (Betty) at Lethbridge and Gary (Doreen) at Bloomfield; sisters Dorothy Bourne at St. John’s, Nellie Bishop at St. John’s and Bertha Pitcher at Clarenville; grandchildren Paula (Steve Rogers), Robert Moss (Angela), Nicole (Corey Ash) and David Moss; great-grandchildren Sarah and Bethany Rogers and Riley Moss; special friend Joe Hodder; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Lethbridge. Funeral service held on Sunday, September 12, 2004, from St. James Anglican Church, Jamestown, with interment at Anglican Cemetery, Jamestown.

 

Penney, Edgar - Passed away suddenly on Tuesday, September 14, 2004, Edgar Penney, aged 72 years of Cannings Cove. Predeceased by loving wife Dora, parents Joseph and Mary, brother John, sister Violet and half-brothers John and George Moss. Left with loving memories are his sons Brian (Lynn) at Harbour Main and Steven (April) at Cannings Cove; daghter Beverly Bursey (Anthony) at St. John’s; grandchildren Adam Bursey, Kailey, Liam and Brooke Penny; sister Henrietta (Mae); sisters-in-law Sheila Estey (Ivan) at St. John’s, Ethel Moss at Cannings Cove and aeava Penney at Cannings cove; brothers-in-law Gregory Pitts (Anne) and  son Christopher at Paradise, Gordon Penney (Mae) at Cannings Cove; other nieces and nephews; family and friends. Rested at St. John the Devine Anglican Church, Cannings Cove. Funeral service was held at 2 p. m., September 17, 2004. Currie, Jennifer - Passed away tragically on Sunday, September 19, 2004, Jennifer Joanne Currie of Britannia, aged 27 years. Predeceased by her father Elmer Adams. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Bob and son Mark; her mother Shirley Adams at Milton; sister Susan (Allan Vardy) at Chalk River, ON; brother Keith (Sylvia) at Clarenville; nieces Robin and Katie; nephews Jeremy and Andrew; mother-in-law Amy Currie at Britannia; and a large circle of family and friends. Rested at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service held Wednesday, September 22, 2004, from Milton United Church with interment at Milton-George’s Brook Cemetery. Stead, Wilma N. - Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Thursday, September 16, 2004, Wilma N. Stead of Clarenville, aged 85 years. Predeceased by her husband Walter, son Randy and parents Elam and Mae Critch. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her sons Roy (Nancy) at Nassawadox, VA, and Ralph (Diane) at Mt. Jackson, VA; sister Roberta (Frank Harrison) at EL Paso, Texas; grandchildren Roy Jr., Scott, James, Christina, Shawn, Erika, David and Randy Stead; great-grandchildren Breanna; niece Carolee (Gordon Polley); nephews Scott Harrison (Robin) and Mark Harrison; her always faithful companion Shadow; and a large number of relatives and friends. Funeral service took place on Thursday, September 23, 2004, from Memorial United Church, Clarenville, with interment at United Cemetery, Clarenville. Philpott, Mary Ellen - Passed away suddenly on September 16, 2004, at the Health Science  Center, St. John’s, Mary Ellen Philpott, age 76 years, of Plate Cove East, Bonavista Bay. Predeceased by her husband Richard, and parents Michael and Mary Power. Leaving to mourn are her sons Michael at Plate Cove East, Blair (Dene) and Ambrose at Keswick, ON; brothers Patrick (Rose) at Duntara, Lloyd (Dot) at Duntara, Jack at Duntara, Raymond (Jessie) at St. John’s and Tom (Francis) at St. John’s; one sister Kay (Bill) at Duntara; four great-grandchildren; 21 nieces and nephews; and a large circle of friends and relatives. Funeral took place Monday, September 20, 2004. Remains rested at St Patrick’s Parish, Plate Cove. Interment at St. Patrick’s Parish Cemetery, Plate Cove East. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy’s Funeral Home, Random Island.
