KING, Reginald - Reginald Ford King passed away on November 5, 2007. Dearly loved and a man of integrity and kindness. Born in Port Union, Newfoundland in 1927. In 1955, Reg moved his young family to southern Ontario, where he felt there would be more opportunity. He found work in the accounting department of the Hamilton based steel and industrial supply company Wilkinson and Kompass and stayed for 35 years, retiring as President and General Manager in 1990. As a family man, he hugged his sons often, nurtured his three children to succeed as entrepreneurs, and ensured his wife was financially independent of him. At the office, he practiced employment equity before these principals were mainstream. An ethos of sharing credit liberally, and assuming responsibility when things were difficult, served him well. Ideologically conservative for most of his life, during retirement, his views evolved to the centre. He supported same sex marriage and came to feel governments should invest more in social programs. Despite his health challenges and loss of Elizabeth (Betty), his wife of 53 years in 2003, he lived his final years independently and positively, charming all those whom he met to his final days. Beloved by his children and their partners, John (Teresa), Michigan; Susan (Lu Korte), Ottawa; and Gary (Laura Eagles), Ottawa; and nephew, Don Bragg, Hamilton. He also leaves seven cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, Sean, Vashti and Dylan King, and Quincy and Jesse Korte-King. Also mourning his passing are his sister, Edna Carson, Washington; and brother, Dan (Gloria), Toronto. Following his wishes, a private family service will be held. Thank you to Don, the wonderful neighbours and health professionals who cared for Reg in recent years and months. For those wishing to make a memorial contribution, donations to the Arthritis Society or Shepherds of Good Hope would be appreciated by the family.
