Russell - Passed away peacefully at Dr. G. B. Cross Hospital, Clarenville, on Sunday, October 24, 2004, Lloyd Russell of Brooklyn in his 58th year. Predeceased by parents Robert and Kate Russell. Leaving to mourn, his daughter Siobohn, his very special friend Marcella, brother Sam (Minnie), sisters Vera (Drew), Blenda (Hiram) and Loretta (Terry), seven nephews, one niece and a large circle of family and friends. Funeral services on Wednesday, October 27, 2004, from St. Andrews Anglican Church, Brooklyn. Interment at the Anglican Cemetery, Brooklyn. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy’s Funeral Home, Random Island.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ita M. Maloney announce her passing at the Bay St George Long Term Care Centre, Stephenville Crossing, on Sunday, October 24, 2004, at the age of 99 years. She will be sadly missed by three sons Andrew (Vera) Maloney at Toronto, Ontario, John (Marg) Mahoney at Sweet Bay and Jerome (Madonna) Maloney at Sweet Bay; five daughters Josephine Dacey at Stephenville, Loretta Hollohan at Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Sadie (Fred) Maloney at Gander, Terri (Bernie) White at Kippens and Dorothy (Fred) White at Stephenville; 46 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren; and a large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Andrew Maloney in 1977, daughter Marion Maddigan in 1999, parents John and Marie Dobbin, four brothers, three sisters and two sons-in-law Lew Hollohan in 1995 and Mike Dacey in 2003. Visitation took place at Russell’s Funeral Home, 39 Queen Street, Stephenville, on Monday, October 25. Her remains were forwarded to Sweet Bay where visitation took place at the Roman Catholic Church, Sweet Bay, with interment in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Sweet Bay. Funeral service conducted by Fewer’s Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral arrangements were under the supervision of Russell’s Funeral Home, 39 Queen Street, Stephenville.

Bailey: Passed away peacefully at the Golden Heights Manor, Bonavista, on October 27, 2004, Walter Bailey, age 93, from George’s Brook. Predeceased by parents Peter and Mary Bailey; wives Clara Hefferman and Pearl Hobbs; daughter Elizabeth; sisters Amy Ann Baker, Lucy Stanley and Maggie Parrott; brothers Gideon, Albert, Ben and John. Leaving to mourn son-in-law Larry Stanley; grandchildren Kathleen, Judy and Clifford; great-grandchildren Shawn, Trina, Chelsi and Kersti. Rested at the Emmanual Pentecostal Church in George’s Brook from where the funeral service, officiated by Pastor Dennis Newbury and Pastor Rex Boone, took place on Friday, October 29, with interment following at the George’s Brook/Milton Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy’s Funeral Home, Random Island.

Miriam Butt (March 26, 1905 - October 27, 2004)
Miriam was born to Hezekiah and Eliza Martin in Hickman’s Harbour on the 26th March, 1905. She married William Butt of Britannia in 1923. They made their home in Britannia where they raised a family. Miriam was a life-long active member of her church. She was a member of the United Church Women and its forerunner, The Ladies Aid. For several years, she was the Superintendent of the Sunday School in Britannia. Miriam was a member of the LOBA for some 50 years. Miriam was predeceased by her husband William; sons Winston, Adam and Edgar, son-in-law Ralph Gardner; sister Maria Lambert; and brother Edgar Martin. Left to mourn are daughters Flora Gardner, Margaret Ivany (Winston), Jessie Cheater (Clifford), Mary Duffett (Alan) and Barbara King (Cecil); son Lloyd Butt (Eleanor); daughters-in-law Winnifred Butt and Joan Butt; 28 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters Jessie Sparkes; and a large circle of other relatives and friends.

Pye, Boyd M. - Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Sunday, November 7, 2004, Boyd . Pye of Jamestown, aged 76 years. Predeceased by his parents Harold and Beatrice, brother Thomas and grandson Gary. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Clarice of 46 years; daughter Diane Ash at Shoal Harbour; sons Raymond (Myra) at Jamestown and Paul (Doreen) at Brooklyn; sisters Pearl Simmons (Bruce) at Green’s Harbour, Annie Ash (William) at Portland and Violet Nicholson at New Brunswick; brothers Lewis (Maud) at Brooklyn, John (Laura) at Brooklyn and Ronald (Brenda) at Deer Lake; five grandchildren Michael and Angela at Jamestown, Jennifer and Stephanie at Shoal Harbour and Dyan at Brooklyn; one great-granddaughter Emily at Shoal Harbour; and a large circle of family and friends. Rested at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Lethbridge. Funeral service held on Tuesday, November 9, 2004, from United Church, Lethbridge, with interment at United Cemetery, Lethbridge. In his memory, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Green, Olive - Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Tuesday, November 9, 2004, Olive Frances Green of Little Heart’s Ease, aged 79 years. Predeceased by her husband, William; daughter, Glennis and grandson, Justin. Left with fond and loving memories her daughters, Mary Palmateer (Don) at Brigton, ON, Doris Seward (Alphonsus) at Gooseberry Cove, Hilda Reid (Paul) at Little Heart’s Ease, Irene Lambert (Everett) at Little Heart’s Ease, Alvena Laite (Glen) at Little Heart’s Ease and Dallas Mifflin (Perry) at Torbay; sons Wayne (Sherry) at Bonavista, Lester (Helen) at Gambo and Rodney at Little Heart’s Ease; sisters, Diniah Pilgram (Clayton) at Stephenville and Irene Rideout (Bronson) at Long Island; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law. Mariah and Minnie at Clarenville and Melita at Oakville, ON; brother-in-law. George Green (Clarice) at Oshawa, ON; and a large number of relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Little Heart’s Ease. Funeral service took place on Friday, November 12, from the Salvation Army Citadel, Little Heart’s Ease, with interment at Salvation Army Cemetery, Little Heart’s Ease. 

Harris, Lossie - Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on November 14, 2004, Lossie E. Harris in her 100th year. Left with fond and loving memories her special niece, Nellie Clouter (Max) and family, Port Blandford; special nephew, late Leslie Harris (Florence) and family, Port Blandford, and family of the late Bert Harris, Gander. Rested at United Church, Port Blandford. Funeral service took place on Wednesday, November 17, from United Church, Port Blandford, with interment at United Cemetery, Port Blandford. In her memory a memorial fund to United Church, Port Blandford.

Walsh, Margaret F. (Oct. 11, 1924 - Nov. 3, 2004) - Passed peacefully away at the Bonavista Hospital on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, in her 80th year. Predeceased by her husband, Michael and daughter, Helen. Leaving to mourn daughters, Genieve (Jerry), Monica (Bill), Mary (Al) and Sylvia (Dan); sons, John (Joyce) and Gerald (Helga); brothers, Tom and Jim (Claudine); sisters, Christine and Frances; 13 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral took place from the Roman Catholic Church, Port Union, on Saturday Nov. 6, 2004. 

Clarke, Augustus - Passed peacefully away at Bonavista Hospital on Nov. 13, 2004, Augustus Clarke, age 85. Remains rested at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Dunfield. Burial followed at the Anglican Church Cemetery, Trinity. Predeceased by wife, Jacqueline (1993). Leaving to mourn daughter, Marie Locke (Wayne); son, Ivan (Lol); granddaughter Kelly (Chad); brothers, Clarence and Richard; sister, Ettie Mae. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy’s Funeral Home, Random Island.

Vardy: It is with great sadness the family announce the peaceful passing of Nellie Vardy (nee Martin), age 76, from Hickman’s Harbour, on Nov. 9, 2004, at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville. Predeceased by her husband, William in 2003; infant son, Hayward; parents, Emiline and Newman and brother, Hayward. Leaving to mourn are her sons, Lloyd (Sandra), David (Julie) and Randy (Cavell); daughters, Jeanette (Mac), Kelly (Maurice), Jackie (Dave) and Tracy (Gerald); step-mother, Dorothy Stringer; step-sister, Edna (Sam) Parsons; step-brother, Lloyd (Vinie) Martin; brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law, Wilfred (Geraldine), Ralph (Lorraine), Clyde (Charlotte), Charles (Pat), Ross (Ruby), Dulcie (Jim), Olive (Art), Edith and Barbara; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. She will also be sadly missed by caregivers Ivy, Julie, Myrtle and Cathy. Rested at Vardy’s Funeral Home, Hickman’s Harbour. Funeral service, officiated by Mrs. Elsie Squires, took place on Friday, November 12, 2 p.m, from the United Church Hickman’s Harbour. Nellie was laid to eternal rest at the United Church Cemetery, Hickman’s Harbour.

Rodway, Peter - Passed away peacefully at Clarenville Retirement Home on Sunday, November 21, 2004, Peter Rodway at Clarenville, aged 78 years. Predeceased by his wife, Malvenia and his parents, Frank and Lily Rodway. Leaving to mourn with fond memories his sisters, Olive Boutcher at Toronto, Bertha Eighmey (Keith) at Sun City, AZ. And Ivy Davis (Edgar) at Mount Pearl; brother, Alfred Rodway at Clarenville; and a large number of nieces and nephews along with other relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service held on Tuesday, November 23, 2004, from St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Clarenville. Interment at Clarenville Interdenominational Cemetery. In his memory a memorial fund to St. Mary’s Church, Clarenville.
