GREENING, Alfred Guy
Musgravetown

Passed peacefully away at the Harbour Lodge Nursing Home in Carbonear on Oct. 31, 2002 at the age of 91 years, Left to mourn his passing are his children, Rennie (Barbara) at Niagara Falls, ON; Don (Daisy) at Musgravetown, NL; Yvonne (Oren Noble) at Barrie, ON; Gaylia (Howard Wright) at Oshawa, ON; Dianne (Bill Campbell) at Callander, ON; son-in-law, Harvey Little; brother, Willis; sisters, Myrtus Little and Ella Matthews; and sister-in-law, Cave Greening. Predeceased by daughter, Daphne; sons, Teddy and Mack; brother, Frank; sisters, Gertrude, Naomi and Walneta. Lovingly remembered by 23 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, many nieces and nephews.

MARSH, David
It is with great sadness the family of the late David Marsh announce his passing. He passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on Oct. 28, 2002. Predeceased by his loving wife, Florence, Dec. 11, 2001. He will be missed by his four sons, Edwin, Andy, David and Jim; five daughters, Mary, Susan, Julia, Jenny and Daphne; two brothers, Jim and Jack; many grandchildren, great-grand-children, nieces, nephews and friends. Also mourning his death are his step-children, Nellie (Jim) Stanley, Madeline (Isaac) Masters, Fred (Wavey) Piercey and Merlin Piercey. Rested at Vardy's Funeral Home, Hickman's Harbour. Funeral took place at the United Church, Hickman's Harbour on Oct. 30 with interment following.

Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville, NL on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, Dorman T. Butt of Winterbrook, age 93 years. Predeceased by wife, Violet; and son, Renwick. Left with fond and loving memories daughters, Maxine Earle (John) of Paradise and Verda Pike (Gordon) of Portland; sons, Clifford of Vancouver, BC, Chris (Frances) of Winterbrook, Gordon (Sandra) of Botwood, Larry (Wendy) of Cambridge, ON and Derrick (Wendy) of Tottenham, ON; sisters, Maude Moss of Jamestown and Mary Spracklin of Mount Pearl; brother-in-law, Max Russell (Dolly) of Portland; 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a large number of relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home in Lethbridge. Funeral took place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct.29, 2002, from the United Church, Portland. Interment at the United Cemetery in Winterbrook. Donations in his memory may be made to the United Church, Portland.

BAKER, Frances Edith
Passed peacefully away on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002 at the Health Science Complex after a brief illness, Frances Edith Baker, age 82 years. Predeceased by her husband, George; three grand-daughters, Paula, Connie and Michelle. Left to mourn two sons, Melvin (Olive) and Wayne (Ivy); three daughters, Yvonne (John), Shirley (Mike) and Edith (Dave); 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral service took place at the Pentecostal Church, Goobies on Nov. 1, 2002. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

WILLIAMS, Masie Belle
Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Oct. 30, 2002, Masie Belle Williams, age 71, from Hickman's Harbour. Masie leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories nephew, Eugene (Lynda); nieces, Sheila, Kay (Dan) and Sarah ((Piercey); great-nephews, Steven and Lucas (Pardy); step-sisters, Gladys (Anuel Pond) and Pearl White; one step-brother, Victor Wiseman (Pearl); and a large number of other relatives and friends. Rested at Vardy's Funeral Home, Hickman's Harbour. Funeral took place on Nov. 2 at the United Church, Hickman's Harbour with interment following.

Passed peacefully away on Oct. 30, 2002 at the Health Science Center in the presence of her loving family, Melena Rosella Gilbert (Halfyard) of Bonavista formerly of Haystack, Placentia Bay in her 84th year. Predeceased by her husband, William (1964); daughter, Shirley (1991); and sons-in-law, Les (1990) and Andy (2001). Leaving to mourn her loss and treasure her memory are her sons, Cecil Gilbert (Florence) at Bishop Falls, and Wallace Gilbert (Linda) at Erin, Ontario; daughters, Bernice Humphries (Percy) at Valleyfield, Nina Dalton at Shoal Harbour, Jessie Gilbert (Alister) at Bonavista, Beulah Tiller (Joe) at Newtown, Lena Brazil (Gerald) at Bellevue, Christine Gilbert at Burnaby, B.C. and Joyce Brady (D'Arly) at Coquitlam, BC; 34 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Juanita and Rita; brother, Clayton; sister-in-law, Ruth; also her companion and caregiver Reg White. Rested at Strathies Funeral Home, Bonavista. Funeral service held at Memorial United Church Nov 2 at 2 p.m.

IVANY, Miriam
Passed peacefully away at the Golden Heights Manor, Bonavista on Nov. 4, 2002 Miriam Ivany, age 65 years from Princeton. Leaving to mourn her husband, Herman; seven daughters, Boyna (Gerry) Hollohan, Marilyn (Gordon) Quinton, Velma (Shawn) Marsh, Melinda (Paul) Stevens, Peggy, Janice and Sherry; three sons, Douglas, Charles and Austin; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, four sisters and one brother. Also a large circle of other family and friends. Rested at Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island on Nov. 5 and from there to the Hope United Church, Charleston when the funeral took place Nov. 6. Interment took place at the United Church Cemetery, Princeton.

Passed peacefully away on Oct. 23, 2002 Dolores Jessie Best of Shoal Harbour in her 48th year. Predeceased by father, Allan Marshall. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories husband, Jerry; daughter, Lisa of Arnold's Cove; son, Geoffrey of St. John's; mother, Ruby Marshall of Shoal Harbour; sisters, Lorraine (Rex Blundon) of Burin and Maxine Marshall of Shoal Harbour; brothers, Don Marshall (Grace) of St. Brendan's and Lee Marshall of Shoal Harbour; plus many other family and friends. Rev. Sheila White and Rev. Judy Squires officiated the funeral service on Oct. 26 from the Anglican Church, Arnold's Cove with interment at the Anglican Cemetery, Arnold's Cove. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Blundon's Funeral Home, Shoal Harbour.

Passed quietly away at home with his family W. Hayward Smith of Aspen Brook Random Island, aged 87 years. Loved and missed by his wife, Cecilia daughters Barbara, Carol (Jan) and Glenda (Brian); grandchildren Paul, Brad, Alison (Dave), Meghan, Christopher, Andrew Nicholas and Amanda;  great-grandchild, Samantha; brothers Lawrence (Sue) and George (Jean); sister-in-law, June; nephews and nieces Reg (Winnie), Lindy (Louise), Dawne, Keith, Peter and Annette; special aunts May and Alice; as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Rested at Vardy's Funeral Home Hickrnan’s Harbour on Saturday, Nov. 9. Funeral took place at the Central United Church on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2 p.rn: Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery in Aspen Brook. Donations may be made in his memory to Central United Church or the Aspen Brook Cemetery Fund.

Passed peacefully away at the G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, Edison B. Freeman of Port Rexton, aged 87 years. Predeceased by wife, Florence; wife, Carrie; and brothers, Maxwell and Elias John. Left with fond and loving memories his son, Selby (Margaret) at Champney's West; stepson, William Pennell (Mollie) at Ontario; stepson, Joseph Jon Pennell (Donna) at Toronto; step­daughter, Eileen Pennell at St. John's; sister, Beatrice and family at Bishop's Falls; sister-in-law, Rosie and family at Champney's West; four grandchildren, John (Kim), Angela (Jim), Cindy (Kent) and Brian (Renata); three great-grandchildren, Hayley, Allison and Michael and a large number of relatives and friends. Remains rested at Fewer's Funeral Home in Port Rexton. Funeral took place on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002 at the Anglican church with interment at St. Clements Anglican Cemetery in Champney's West. In his memory flowers were accepted and a memorial fund to St. Clements Anglican Church.

VARDY, WIlson Francis (Frank)
Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, Wilson Francis (Frank) Vardy of Robinsons Bight, aged 74 years. Predeceased by son, Jim, 1982. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife, Olive of 54 years; daughters, Beverly (Navin Lambert) at Robinsons Bight and Joann (Calvin Smith) at Clarenville; sons, Edgar, Eric (Leona) and Robert all at Ontario; sister, Myrtle Buller at Ontario; brothers, Allan (Ruth) at Lady Cove, Stan at Ontario and Don (Vicky) at Saskatchewan; 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a large number of relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home in Clarenville. A memorial service was held Monday, Nov. 11, 2002 at 2 pm from Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Cremation followed In his memory flowers gratefully accept­ed or donations may be rnade to the family.

Passed peacefully away at her home on Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, Sylvia Mugford (nee Humby) of Princeton, aged 54 years. Predeceased by her husband, Clifford Mugford and brother, Alfred Humby. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her childrnn, Shirley Mugford (Randy Tilley) at Gander, Christine (Scott Noseworthy) at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, Betty (Darrell Furlong) at Whitecourt, AB, Peggy (Sheldon Frye) at Millet, AB, Richard Mugford (Wanda Humby) at Princeton, Harvey Mugford at Whitecourt, AB and Lester Mugford (Maureen Maloney) at Whitecourt, AB; parents, Richard and Gladys Humby at Summerville; daughter-in-law, Tracey Mugford at Plate Cove East; sister, Rosalind (Calvin Squires) at Pense, SK; brother, Wayde Humby (Verlie Holloway) at Summerville; grandchildren, Clifford, Dameion, Helen, Kaitlin, Bradley and Scott; and a circle of other relatives and friends. PHILPOTT, Thomas A.
Passed peacefully away at his residence in Waterdown, ON surrounded by his loving family and friends on Nov. 18, 2002, Thomas A. Philpott in his 77th year. Beloved husband of Geraldine (Deannie Kelly); and dear father of Shawn and his wife, Trudy at Toronto, Kelly and her husband, Mitch Kockan at Millgrove and Mary and friend Yvan at Etobicoke. Loving grandfather of Kaitlyn, Steven and Aidan; dear brother of Madonna Ryan at Gander, NL, Sam, Patrick and Ignatius at Toronto. Predeceased by Daniel, Dorothy and Rose. Also survived by mother-in-law, Annie Kelly at Tickle Cove; sisters-in-law, Mary Kelly at Tickle Cove and Eileen Barron (husband, Adrian) at Calgary; and brother-in-law, Peter Kelly (Theresa) at Toronto. As well as many nephews and nieces and a very large circle of friends and relatives. Funeral mass celebrated at St. Thomas Church, Waterdown, ON, Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002.

Passed peacefully away at Lakeside Homes, Gander on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, Arabella (Belle) Stares Stead (nee Skiffington), aged 95 years. Predeceased by her first husband, Alonzo Stares; second husband, Hubert Stead; son, Henry Stares; sister, Martha Holloway; brothers, Otto Skiffington, William Skiffington, Cohn Skiffington, Wilson Skiffington and Robert Skiffington; and son-in-law, Murray Starrett. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories  Mae Starrett at East Chezzetcook, NS; sons, David (Mary) at Lethbridge, Robert (Effie) at Benton, John (Mary) at  Two Hills, AB, Michael at Toronto and Hughie (Sheila) at Alberta; brother Gilbert Skiffington (Blanche) at Gambo and a large number of grand­children and great-grandchildren other relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home Lethbridge. Funeral service held Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002 from Anglican Church, Brooklyn with interment at Anglican Cemetery, Brooklyn. Passed peacefully away after a long and courageous battle with cancer at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, Elmer Adams of Milton, aged 56 years. Predeceased by his mother, Cassandra and his father, Emmanuel. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife, Shirley of 36 years; daugh­ters, Susan (Allan Vardy) at Chaulk River, ON and Jennifer (Bob Currie) at Britannia; son, Keith (Sylvia) at Milton; sisters, Sandra Adams at Milton, Pauline (Fred Barnes) at Buchans and Audrey (John Coady) at St. John's; brother, Byron (Theresa) at Milton; brother-in-law, Kevin French (Peggy) at Paradise; grandchildren, Robin, Jeremy, Andrew, Katie and Mark; and a large circle of family and friends. Predeceased by her husband, Frank; parents, John and Alice Barrett; brother, Charles Barrett; and grandson, Dale. Predeceased by her father, Randolph Kelly. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her daughter, Chantelle; mother, Cavelle (Eric) Stanley at Clarenville; brothers, Randy (Karen) and Steven; nephew, Aaron; family and friends in London, ON; and family and friends in Newfoundland. Passed away at Lions Manor Nursing Home, Placentia on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, Leah Lenora Garrett of Port Blandford, aged 98 years. Predeceased by husband, Daniel; sister, Laura Perry; and son-in-law, Donald Blackmore. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her daughters, Elsie Blackmore at Port Blandlord and Leona (Bruce Munroe) at Toronto; grandchildren, Carol Harris, Donna Holloway, Dianne Greening, Karen Peddle, Douglas Blackmore, Kimberly Hobbs, Debbie Martin, Tina McDonald and Tammy Munroe; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a large circle of family and friends. Rested at Anglican Church, Port Blandford. Funeral service held on Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, from the Anglican Church, Port Blandford with interment at the Anglican Church Cemetery, Port Blandford.
