TRAVERSE, Clara
Passed away suddenly at her home on Tuesday, April 30, 2002, Clara Traverse (nee Ryan), of Southern Harbour, aged 52 years. Predeceased by her father Vincent Ryan (1998) and sister Veronica Gambin (1997). Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Eric of 32 years; mother Lucy Ryan, Southern Harbour; daughters Theresa, Edmonton, AB, Beverley (fiancée Patrick Morgan), Grande Prairie, AB, Ruby, Edmonton, AB, and Ella, Southern Harbour; sisters Sheila (Patrick Mulrooney), Southern Harbour, Marion (Bert Smith), Sunnyside, Rita (Glenn Wadman), Deep Brook, NS and Phyllis (Robert Kearley), English Harbour East; brothers Francis (Helen), Philip (Hannah) and Vincent (Priscella), all of Southern Harbour and a large circle of relatives and friends. Rested at Christ The King Church, Southern Harbour. Funeral mass took place on Friday, May 3, 2002 from Christ The King Church, Southern Harbour with interment at Christ The King Cemetery, Southern Harbour.

SEXTON, George H.
Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Sunday, April 28, 2002, George H. Sexton in his 88th year. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife, Florence; daughter, Jean (Michael Butt), Bloomfield; step-daughter, Mona (Michael Stewart), Bloomfield; son, Kevin (Susan), Bloomfield; grandchildren, Robyn, Kelly, Ted, Sherry and Trevor and a large number of relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Lethbridge. Funeral service held on Tuesday, April 30, 2002 from Heritage United Church, Musgravetown with interment at United Cemetery, Musgravetown. In his memory donations may be made to Heritage United Church, Musgravetown or the Clarenville Area SPCA


May 13, 2002

COX, Merida Mary Elizabeth
On Friday, May 3, 2002, Mrs. Merida Cox (nee Wiseman) of Alliance, Alberta passed away at the age of 93 years. Merida was born to Arthur and Ciselia Wiseman at Shoal Harbour, Newfoundland on July 2, 1908. She met and married Lyle Cox and they resided in Alliance, Alberta. Lyle predeceased her on August 19, 1991. She is survived by her loving daughter Grace Parsons and her husband Jim of Winnipeg, Manitoba; one grandson Larry Parsons of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives in Toronto and Newfound land. A service of remembrance was held at Fee & Sons Funeral Home in Killam, Alberta on Wednesday, May 8, 2002 with Reverend Roland Scherban-Legge officiating. Cremation. Interment of cremains, in the Alliance Columbarium, will take place at a later date. Memorial donations in memory of Merida may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Fee & Sons Funeral Service of Killam, Alberta in care of arrangements. Phone 1-780-385-3642.

ABBOTT, George
Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on May 4, 2002, George Abbott of Princeton He was 61 years of age. He was predeceased by parents, Alexander and Alexandria Abbott. He is survived by brothers and sisters, Thomas (Gertrude), William (Vera), Lewis, Alexander (Ruth), Clayton (Ann), Chelsey (Sharon), Gerald (Gladys), Gladys (Hanuel Holloway), Elizabeth Budgell, Rita Hynes, Joyce Abbott (Gerald Moss). Also leaving to mourn ten nieces; 17 nephews, many great-nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends. Rested at the United Church in Princeton from where the funeral took place on May 7, 2002 with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

Passed peacefully away at St. Patrick's Mercy Home, St. John's on Monday, May 13, 2002, Hubert Peddle of Hodge's Cove, aged 70 years. Predeceased by his parents, three brothers and one sister. Leaving to mourn his wife Ethel (nee Anstey) of 26 years; sister Mae (Clarence Peddle), St. John's and a large number of relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Little Heart's Ease. Funeral service held on Thursday, May 6, 2002 from St. Mary's Anglican Church, Hodge's Cove with interment at the Anglican Cemetery, Hodge's Cove. In his memory donations may be made to St. Patrick's Mercy Home or Heart and Stroke Foundation.

KEATS, Thomas
Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on May 7, 2002, Thomas Keats of Port Blandford. He was 85 years of age. Predeceased by his wife, Annie. Leaving to mourn daughter Rosalind Reader (Oliver); sons Jetro, Richard, Ralph (Pansy); sisters Edith Chatman, Mary Penney; brothers Ted, Edgar, Norman, Andrew, Frank; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a large number of other relatives and friends. Rested at the Anglican Church, Port Blandford from where the funeral took place on Thursday, May 9, 2002 with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

Passed peacefully away at Harbour Lodge, Carbonear on Monday, May 13, 2002, Lawrence Barbour of Lethbridge, aged 72 years. Predeceased by his mother Gertrude, father Carmen and wife, Ruby. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories daughter Celeste (David Quinton), Wisconsin; son Conn (Maxine), Appleton; sisters Celeste Gilsdorf, Ohio and Dina Hancock (Eugene), Lethbridge; brother Burwell (Anne), Lethbridge; three grandchildren Tina, Gordon and Avery and one great-grandchild Samuel and a large number of relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Lethbridge. Funeral service held Thursday, May 16, 2002 from Memorial United Church, Lethbridge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

UPSHALL, Frank Archibald
(June 12, 1939 - May 8,2002)

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we, the family of Frank Archibald Upshall, announce the sudden passing of a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Frank was born June 12, 1939 in Harbour Buffett, Placentia Bay. He relocated to North Harbour in 1966 with his bride Selina, where together they made their home and raised their daughter Roxane and son Randy. Frank earned his living from the sea, a profession he dearly loved. In recent years five new wonders entered his life, son-in-law Leeland, daughter-in-law Lori-Aim and grandchildren Riley (6), Kayleigh (5) and Braden (3). Predeceased by his father, George in 1966 and his mother, Adelaide in 1999. On this sad day we remain to mourn and forever cherish this remarkable man; loving wife of 36 years, Selina (Hodder); daughter Roxane (Leeland Wareham); son Randy (Lori-Ann); grandchildren Riley, Kayleigh and Braden; sister Annie Warren; brothers Ronald (Marie), Percy (Glenys) and Albert (Maxine); and a large circle of relatives and friends. Rested at the Anglican Church in North Harbour. Funeral held on Saturday at the Anglican Church with interment at the Anglican Cemetery in North Harbour. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made in Frank's memory to the Anglican Church Building Fund (North Harbour).
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.

ABBOTT, Phyllis K.
Passed peacefully away at her home on May 14, 2002, Phyllis K. Abbott in her 78th year. Leaving to mourn with loving memories two brothers, Ack (Claudine) Abbott, Bonavista, and Joseph (Mildred) Abbott, Mass., U.S.A.; six sisters, Elizabeth, Una, Winnifred, Meta, Sophie and Ruby living at Bonavista; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Rested at Strathie's Funeral Home, Bonavista. Funeral took place from the Anglican Church with Rev. Chatman officiating on May 17, 2002.
