WELLS, Samuel
Passed suddenly away at his residence in Shoal Harbour on Friday, March 2, 2001, Samuel Wells, aged 66 years. Predeceased by his parents Willis and Isabella Wells and son John Wells. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife Verna of 23 years, daughter Karen, Halifax, NS; sons Edwin (Caroline), Dale (Wanda), Gary and Dean all of Shoal Harbour; brother Roland, At. Mary's; two grandchildren Tiffany and Dominic; and a large number of relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service held Tuesday, March 6, 2001 at the United Church, Shoal Harbour with interment at the United Church Cemetery, Shoal Harbour. In his memory donations can be made to Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville.

STRINGER, William T.
Passed away suddenly, March 3, 2001, at the Health Science Centre, William T. Stringer of Caplin Cove, aged 75 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Laura of 53 years; seven daughters Linda (John), Eileen, Joan (Wayne), Donna (June), Maxine (Roy), Dale and Yvonne; two sons Harold (Judy) and Wade (Wilma); 24 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother Eric; and a large number of relatives and friends. Rested at Wesley United Church, Caplin Cove. Funeral service was held on Monday, March 5, 2001. Interment at the United Church Cemetery, Caplin Cove.

HODDER, Cecil
Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Friday, March 9, 2001, Cecil Hodder of North Harbour, aged 63 years. Predeceased by brother John Hodder. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife Florence of 41 years; daughters Ann Gilbert (Junior), North Harbour, Brenda Snook (Calvin), Sunnyside, and Mabel Whalen (Kenneth), Brampton, ON; son Ben (Karen), North Harbour; sisters Selina Upshall (Frank), North Harbour and Mary Keating, Baine Harbour; seven grandchildren; special aunt Sarah Hodder, North Harbour; and a large number of relatives and friends. Rested at Victory Pentecostal Church, North Harbour. Funeral took place on Monday, March 12, 2001 from Victory Pentecostal Church, North Harbour with interment at Pentecostal Cemetery, North Harbour.

SMITH, Delilah
Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Friday, March 9, 2001, Delilah Smith of Hodge's Cove, aged 94 years. Predeceased by her husband Jacob (1987) and son Lindo (1998), Leaving to mourn three daughters Florence Green (Hubert), Hodge's Cove, Sylvia Vey (Eric), Long Beach and Rosemund Soper (Henry), North West Brook; daughter-in-law Kathleen, Hodge's Cove; three sons Clarence (Janet), Hodge's Cove, Max (Doris), Hodge's Cove and Albert (Philomenia), Hodge's Cove; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a large number of relatives and friends. Rested at the United Church, Hodge's Cove. Funeral service took place on Monday, March 12, 2001 from United Church, Hodge's Cove with interment at United Church Cemetery, Hodge's Cove. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation.

DOOLEY, James William
Passed peacefully away on March 11, 2001, at Lakeside Homes, Gander, Mr. James William Dooley, age 87 years. Pre-deceased by his wife Annie 1998. Left with loving memories are sons, Jack (Lorraine) of Gander, Alphonsus (Irene) of Medford, ON, Jim (Lynn) of Vancouver, BC; daughters Mary (Harold) Goulding of Gander, Bride Quinlan of Gander, Wynn (Greg) Elder of Mississauga, ON, Gertie (Lloyd) Granter of Gander, Patricia Dooley of Edmonton, AB; brothers Gerald (Lizzie) of Gander, Daniel Dooley of Gander; sisters Nellie (Mark) Kelly of Gander, Mary Hollohan of Gander; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral mass was held on March 14 at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Gander. Interment at All Saints Cemetery. Donations may be made to The Parkinson Foundation or Lakeside Homes, Gander. Arrangements entrusted through Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander/Carmanville.

OLDFORD, Raymond
Passed peacefully away at Lakeside Homes in Gander on March 11, Raymond Oldford of Bunyan's Cove in his 82nd year. Precessed by his father (1942), mother Annie (Tucker) Oldford (1919), step-mother Alice (Tucker) Oldford (2000), and Rance (2000). Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories wife Mary (Billett) Oldford; sons Winston, Ray, Ron (Lynn), Keith (Cindy), Steve (Donna); daughters Norma (Murray), Debra (Jim); twelve grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sister Josie (Abe); brothers Robert (Kay), Josiah (Betty), Tom (Nancy), Alex (Clara); sister-in-law Doris; plus a large circle of relatives and friends. Rested at United Church, Bunyan's Cove from where the funeral took place March 14 with interment at United Church Cemetery, Bunyan's Cove. Funeral service was conducted by Rev. George Demmons. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Blundon's Funeral Home, Shoal Harbour.

GEORGE, Deborah Emily
Passed away in the presence of her family at the Intensive Care Unit of the Dr. G. B. Cross Hospital on March 12, 2001 Deborah Emily George of Lower Lance Cove in her 68th year. She leaves to mourn husband Harvey of 50 years; four children Baxter (Jocelyn), Roberta (John), Kevin (Cathy) and Mereda (Lindsay); seven grandchildren Sonya, Stacy, Leo, Chris, Patti-Dawn, Dale and Denise; one sister Alma Butt Golden Heights Manor, Bonavista; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral service took place from the Random Island Salvation Army. Interment at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Lower Lance Cove. Arrangements by Vardy's Funeral Home, Hickman's Harbour.

RIDEOUT, Willis
Passed peacefully away at home on Monday, March 12, 2001, Willis Riseout of Lady Cove, age 72 years, after a courageous struggle with cancer. Leaving to mourn his wife Laura; five sons Edwin (Ethel), Boyd (Sheila), Perry (Janet), Colin and Cory; two daughters Sylvia and Lily; two grandchildren Matthew (Amanda) and Ashley; and one great-grandaughter Rebecca. Also survived by mother-in-law Mary Hiscock; sisters Theresa (Joseph Seymour) and Evelyn Winsor; brothers Herbert (Lydia) and Augustus (Florence); sisters-in-law Bernice Rideout and Maud (Ern Reid); brother-in-law Raymond Hiscock (Jackie); also many nieces and nephews; as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on Friday, March 16, 2001 at Random Island Salvation Army Corp, Hickman's Harbour, with interment at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Hickman's Harbour.

HANCOCK, Julia Ann
Passed away peacefully and suddenly at Bonavista Peninsula Health Care Complex on March 13, 2001, Julia Ann Hancock of King's Cove, in her 83rd year. Leaving to mourn daughters, Rosalind Walter, King's Cove; Marina Anstey (Israel) Catalina; Marilyn Dawe, Mount Pearl; Beverley Blanchette (Bill), St. John's; son Samson Hancock (Donna), Port Blandford; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; sister Edith Ryan, Birchy Cove; numerous nieces and nephews and a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral took place at St. James Anglican Church, Friday, March 16, 2001, at 2 p.m. Interment at King's Cove Cemetery.

MILLS, Joyce
Passed peacefully away at St. John's on Friday, March 16, 2001 Joyce Mills in her 87th year. Predeceased by her husband Stewart in 1969 and her son Maurice in 1997. Also, predeceased by brothers Kenneth and Guy. Left with fond and loving memories are her son David (Dolores), Sarah and Adam of St. John's; daughter-in-law Patricia, Robert (Tracey) and Susanne of St. John's; sister Minnie Goodyear of Harcourt, Marie Harris of Glovertown, Loretta (Fred Scott) of Ontario, Carol (Boyd Hall) of Ontario; brother Ralph (Berit) of Nova Scotia, Alec (Joyce) of Ontario; sisters-in-law Eileen and Joyce; and a large number of relatives and friends. Remains rested at Fewer's Funeral Home in Clarenville. Funeral was held MONDAY, March 19, 2001 at Shoal Harbour United Church with interment at United Church Cemetery, Shoal Harbour. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Shoal Harbour United Church Organ Fund.

ABBOTT, Jean
Passed away at the Bonavista Hospital on March 23, 2001, Jean Abbott aged 58, after a courageous and lengthy struggle with cancer. Predeceased by her parents Richard and Helen Hobbs. Left with fond and loving memories, her husband Roy, daughter Janice (Arch); one brother Wilbur Hobbs, Elliston, four sisters; Juanita (Jim) Lester, St. John's; Joan (Cyril) Squires; Liz (Doug) Hampton, Bonavista; Sandra (Earl) Anderson, Labrador City, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Remains rested at Strathies Funeral Home. Funeral was held at Memorial United Church, with interment at the UC Cemetery in Bonavista on March 25.

SMITH, Chesley Vincent
(Oct. 24, 1926 - March 23, 2001)

Passed peacefully away at the G.B. Cross Hospital, Clarenville, in the presence of his loving family Chesley Smith of Hodge's Cove, age 74 years. Predeceased by brother Pearce Smith of Hampton, NB, September 2000. Leaving to mourn with precious memories his loving wife Jean (nee Peddle) of 47 years. Will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by sons Wesley (Viola), Lab. City, Vincent (Bernice), Toronto, Neil (Marg), Toronto and Carl (at home); daughters Judy (Tom), Hodge's Cove and Suzanne (Dale), Toronto; eight grandchildren April, Michael, Laurie, Niki (Matt), Sue (Dave), Bryan (Debbie), Rod and Lisa; two great grandchildren Garrett and Mackenzie; one sister Susan Short (Toronto); four sisters-in-law and their spouses Ethel (Eric Smith), Hodge's Cove, Loretta (Wesley Lambert), Hatchet Cove, Sarah Smith, Hampton, NB and Jessie Butt Deer Lake; and brother-in-law Bill Stone, Mount Pearl. Will be lovingly remembered by a large number of relatives, friends, nephews and nieces and their extended families. Funeral services were held on Monday, March 26, at St. Mary's Anglican Church with Rev. Edward Mercer officiating, assisted by Rev. Judy Squires and Captain Willis Drover, Clarice Drover, organist. Interment at the Anglican Church Cemetery, Hodge's Cove.
Be burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you sunshine of tomorrows
My life's been full I savoured much
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.

TREMBLETT, Howard
(1924-2001)

passed peacefully away after a long illness on March 26, 2001, at Manitouwadge General Hospital, Ontario, Howard Tremblett, predeceased by daughter Doreen Jones, St. John's. Leaving to mourn his wife Margaret, sons Douglas (Angela) Bonavista; William (Bonnie) Bonavista; Calvin (Ruth) Ontario: daughters, Burnetta Bowridge (Paul) Ontario; Marlyin (Terry Wilcott)Ontario; also 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
