Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital Clarenville on Sunday, February 23, 2003, Juanita Smith (nee Spurrell), of Gooseberry Cove, aged 64 years. Predeceased by mother, Olive; father, Alexander; and sister, Audrey. Left with fond and loving memories her husband, Victor of 48 years; daughters, Sheila (Jerry Barrett), Arnold's Cove and Olga (Wayne Stoyles), Fort McMurrary, AB; sons, Wade (Irene), Butter Cove and Derek (Yvette), Gooseberry Cove; sister, Beulah (Raymond Gregory), Upper Gullies; brother, Weldon Smith (Nellie), Sunnyside; grandchildren, Glen, Cheryl, Morley, Neil, Ryan, Jeniufer, Blaine, Noelle, Mandy, Julia, Dylan and Maggie; great-grandchild, Jarrad; and a large number of relatives and fliends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Little Heart's Ease. Funeral service held on Wednesday, February 26, 2003 from St. Alban's Anglican Church, Gooseberry Cove with interment at SL Alban's Anglican Cemetery, Gooseberry Cove.

CREWE (SR.) Ernest
November 27, 1917 - February 20, 2003

Passed away on February 20, 2003, Ernest Crewe (Sr.) of Bonavista, NL. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 63 years Nellie (Cooper); 11 children, Rev. Lewis Crewe, Marion Bridge, NS; Lloyd (Audrey), Labrador City; Marie (Gary), Hillview; Ida (Don), Medicine Hat, AB; Ernest Jr. (Margo), Labrador City; Ruby J.; Gertrude (Tim) Salford ON; Helen (Joe), Okotoks, AB; Evelyn (Bob); Irvine (Doreen); Violet, Marion Bridge, NS; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

ANDERSON, Myrtle
(40 year member of ACW, Stephenville, NL)
Passed peacefully away at her home in Bowmanville on Saturday, March 1, 2003, with her family at her side, Myrtle Anderson in her 74th year. Beloved wife of Edward (Lou) Anderson for 50 years. Will be fondly remembered by her children, Edward W. Anderson; and his wife, Madge of Iqualuit, NU and their son, Shawn; Myles Anderson and his wife, Sara of Stephenville, NL and their son Ryan; Barbara; and her husband, Grant MacGregor of Courtice, ON and their children, Rory, Katelyn and James; and Robert Anderson and his wife, Toni of Bowmanville, ON and their children, Randy and Brittney. Will be fondly remembered by her sister, Joanna and her hus­band, Heber Heffern of Newfoundland; brothers, James Cooper of Newfoundland, Gerald Cooper and his wife, Pearl of Newfoundland and John Cooper and his wife, Barbara of NH, USA. Rested at Courtice Funeral Chapel with Memorial Services in our Chapel on Thursday, March 6, 2003. The family of Myrtle received friends on Thursday, March 6. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations to Durham Region Cancer Care Clinic or Lakeridge Health - Oshawa, Palliative Care would be appreciated.

ROGERS, Clarence
(captain) age 76
Passed away on February 23, 2003 at Golden Heights Manor, Bonavista surrounded by his loving family, Clarence Rogers of Catalina, NL. Predeceased by son, Rex; and daughter, Violet. Leaving to mourn his loving wife, Julia Ann (Feltham) five children, Oliver (Margaret) Port. Union, Rosalind Duffett (Joe} St. John's, Christine Windsor (Jim) Port Union, George (Irene) Catalina and Michelle Lodge (Dean) Catalina; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother Oliver (Mabel) Catalina; sisters, Anne Mackenzie at Mississauga and Ruby Moores (Eric) at Scarbough; ON., as well as a large circle of family and friends.

SPURRELL, Alexander Craig
of Queens Cove
37 years of age

Passed peacefully away in the presence of some family members at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on March 7, 2003. Craig leaves to mourn with many lasting memories his wife, Cavell; daughters, Clrristine and Jennifer; parents, Edmund and Faye Spurrell; sisters, Sandra, Vera (Al Lambert) and Diane (Marvin Best); broth­ers, Brian (Joan) and Rodney; and many other relatives and friends. Rested at the United Church, Queens Cove from where the funeral took place on Monday, March 10, 2003, with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

Passed away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital on March 7, 2003, Gertrude Smith of Clarenville, NL, in her 71st year. Predeceased by husband, Arthur Smith; and daughter, Jean (Mac) Balling. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories sons, Charles (Ada) of Deep Bight and Maxwell (Betty) of Deep Bight; daughters, Dulcie (Dennis Brumback) of Wichita, Kansas, USA, Catherine (Larry Romanowski) of Burlington, ON, Marilyn (Jerry McKenna) of Charlottetown, PEI, Patsy (Ray Pilgrim) of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Margaret (Duane Pauls) of Clarenville, NL and Kay (Bela Kutasy) of Brampton, QN; 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren plus many other family and friends. Rev. Nathan Cutler officiated funeral service on March 9 from St. Mary's Anglican Church, Clarenville with interment following at Anglican Cemetery, Sunnyside, officiated by Rev. Sheila White. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Blundon's Funeral Home, Shoal Harbour.

Passed peacefully away at Pentecostal Seniors Rome, Clarke's Beach on Thursday, March 6, 2003, Effie Maria Adams of Clarenville, aged 90 years. Predeceased by her husband, Raymond G. Adams; sister, Gwendolyn and brothers, Arthur and Clayton. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her daughters, Dianne (Andy Drodge), Clarenville and Marie Ricketts, Barrie, ON; sister, Rowena (Sterling Hookey), Barrie, ON; brothers, Warrick Penney and Gordon Penney, both of Springdale; four grand­-children, Wayne (Shauna), Dianne (Doug), Stephen (Kim) and Paul (Wanda); three great-grandchildren, Adam, Jenny and Tyler; and a large circle of family and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Memorial services held at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville on Saturday, March 8, 2003 and White Dove Funeral Home, Springdale on Sunday, March 9, 2003 with interment at Interfaith Cemetery, Springdale. HUNT, Frederick
Passed peacefully away after a brief illness at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Thursday, March 6, 2003, Frederick Hunt of Shoal Harbour, aged 68 years. Predeceased by son-in-law, Norman Baggs, 1981. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife, Marie; daughters, Dianne (Fred Bursey), Shoal Haboour and Paulette (Leon Porter), Shoal Harbour; grandchildren, Corey Baggs and Melanie Baggs; sisters, Inez (Lewis Adey), Clarenville and Muriel O'Donnell, British Columbia; brothers, Albert, George's Brook, Eric (Cavelle), Clarenville and Carl (Jane), Shoal Harbour; and a large circle of family and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. DOOLEY, Kevin
Passed away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital on March 10, 2003, Kevin Dooley of Southern Bay, NL in his 74th year. Predeceased by wife, Mary Dooley. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories stepson, Bernard (Linda Moss) of Plate Cove East; stepdaughter, Mary (John Devlin) of Southern Bay, NL; brother, Cyril Dooley of Southern Bay, NL; seven step-grandchildren; plus many other family and friends. Father Hearn officiated funeral Mass on March 13 from St. Anne's Catholic Church, Summerville with interment following at RC Cemetery, Summerville. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Blundon's Funeral Home, Shoal Habbour.

LAITE, Louis
Passed peacefully away on March 4 at the Hoyles-Escasoni, St John's, Louis Laite from Tnnity at the age of 92 years. Predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Theodosia (2001). He leaves to mourn his son, Jim (Lorraine); grandsons, Roger (Elaine) and Raymond (Beverley); granddaughter, Bev; great-granddaughters, Brittney and Alicia; many nephews and nieces; sister, Effie Brown; sisters-in-law, Mary Laite and Annabelle Kelly. Rested at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Trinity from where the funeral took place on Saturday, March 8, 2003 with Ren’d Chatman and Rev'd Miller officiating, organist, Sandra Laite (niece) and soloist Megan Laite (grandniece). He was laid to rest at the Anglican Cemetery in Trinity. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

PENNEY, Stan
Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on March 13, 2003, Stan Penney, age 76, from Britannia, Random Island. He leaves to mourn his wife, Rita; and children, Lindsay (Ina), Joan Langer, Judy (Jerry Marsh), Eddie (Lesley), Hank and Robin (Krista), 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Roberta Wheeler, Ivy (Jack Marsh) and Edna (Gordon Blundell); one brother, Essau (Myrtle), and many other relatives and friends. Rested at Vardy's Funeral Home, Hickman's Harbour. Funeral took place on Sunday, March 16, 2003 from the United Church, Britannia. Stan was laid to rest at the United Church Cemetery, Britannia.

Passed peacefully away at Bonavista Hospital on Monday, March 24, 2003, Harrison Spurrell of Butter Cove, aged 77 years. Predeceased by his parents, Edgar and Emma. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his sisters, Mary Ann (George Langer) at Gooseherry Cove, Nina (Joseph Smith) at Gooseberry Cove, Vera (Donald Dawe) at Little Heart's Ease and Nellie (Weldon Smith) at Sunnyside; brothers, Ronald (Lillian) at Little Heart's Ease and Fred (Dorothy) at Alberta; and a number of special nieces and nephews, family and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Little Heart's Ease. Funeral service held Wednesday, March 26, 2003, from St. Alban's Anglican Church, Gooseberry Cove with interment at Anglican Cemetery, Gooseberry Cove. In his memory donations may be made to St. Alban's Memorial Fund, Gooseberry Cove.
