MARSH (nee King), Aifreda
Hickman's Harbour
1925-2003

Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Complex, St. John's, on June 25, 2003. Predeceased by her husband, Ezekial and son-in-law, Herb Penney. Leaving to mourn three children, Jane, Clayton (Joy) and Joyce (Wayne Osmond); four grandchildren, Michele (Glen), Trina, Angela and Andrew; three great-grandchildren, Brent, Jordan and Joshua; two sisters, Elizabeth Locke and Annie Russell. She will also be missed by a large number of other relatives and friends. Rested at Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island. Funeral took place on Saturday, June 28, 2003, from the Salvation Army, Hickman's Harbour. Officiating clergy were Captains Randy and Carolyn Hale and a beautiful tribute given by grandson, Andrew. Interment followed at the Salvation Army cemetery, Hickman's Harbour.

WHALEN (nee Stringer), Gertrude L
Passed away in the loving embrace of her family on June 27, Gertrude Whalen, aged 49 years. Predeceased by parents, Lester and Ella Stringer and father-in-law, Harold Whalen Sr. She leaves to mourn husband, Harold Jr.; daughters, Debbie (Bryan Stringer) and Deana; brothers, Cyril (Audry), Ray and Harry (Liz); mother-in-law, Rosetta Whelan; brothers-in-law, Tom (Cathy) and Dennis (Laura); Daphne (Greg Blake); and a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at St. Andrews United Church, Hodge's Cove, at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 29, 2003. Lorraine Moores LPM officiated. Laid to rest in the United Church Cemetery, Hodge's Cove. Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on June 25, 2003, Gertrude Hobbs, age 103 years, from Winterbrook. Predeceased by her husband, Charles. Leaving to mourn with many precious memories her daughter, Marion (Ambrose Moss); grandchildren, Wanda Ash (Butch), Randy Moss (Eileen) and Scott Moss (Tina Chatman); great-grandchildren, Kirk Ash, Gaven Moss and Tyson Moss; sister, Elsie Russell; and other relatives and friends. Rested at the St. Mary the Virgin Church, Winterbrook from where the funeral, officiated by Rev. Chuck Lockhart, took place on June 29, 2003, with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

Passed peacefully away at the Hoyles Escasoni Complex, St. John's, on July 3, 2003, Lenora (Walters) Wicks, age 102 years, from Champney's East. Predeceased by her husband, William (1980). Left to mourn with many fond and loving memories a large number of nieces, nephews and friends. Rested at the Anglican Church, Champney's East from where the funeral, officiated by Rev. John Gillam, took place on July 5 with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Hospital in Clarenville on Tuesday, July 1, 2003, Thelma Luther of Monroe in her 73rd year. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories sons, Fredrick and Dennis of Monroe; daughter-In-law, Kathleen Luther of George's Brook; two grandchildren, Trina (Matt) of George's Brook and Shawn (Stephanie) of Shoal Harbour; sister, Nancy Van Luven of Ontario; special friend, Jennie Boyd of Monroe; plus a large circle of other relatives and friends. Predeceased by her husband, Robert; son, David; sister, Doris and brothers, Orland and Fred Van Luven. Funeral service was officiated by Pastor Dennis Newbury from the Emmanuel Pentecostal Church, George's Brook on Friday, July 4, 2003, with interment following at the United Church Cemetery, Gin Cove. Passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, July 1, 2003, Gerald R. Lawton of King's Cove, age 81 years. Predeceased by wife, Mary; brotners, Felix and Michael. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories daughters, Maureen Mifflin (Gerald Farrell), Millie Matthews (Carl) and Wendy Byrne; son, Joe; sister, Kay Kershisnik (Wyoming); sister-in-law, Daisy Lawton Torbay) and Fran Lawton (St. John's); grandchildren, Melissa, Coleen, Justin, Colin, Kevin, Allan, Andy, Vanessa and Ryan; one great-granddaughter, Madison; nieces and nephews; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Rested at Sts. Peter & Paul R.C. Church at King's Cove. Funeral Mass took place on Friday, July 4, at 2:00 p.m. Interment at R.C Cemetry, King’s Cove.

GOODYEAR, May (Bannister) of Harcourt, NL, formerly of Toronto, ON, beloved wife and best friend for 54 years of John Goodyear, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on Saturday, July 12, 2003, aged 81 years. She will be sadly missed by her children, Shirley (Bill) Jablonski, Janice (Tom) Paas, Wendy (Ted) Topping and John B. Goodyear; grandchildren, Keir Humble, Lesley (Chad) Harris, Michael, Kevin and Bethany Topping, Christine and Sarah Goodyear; sisters, Madelene Morris and the late Lorraine Bailey. Funeral took place from the Bethany United Church, Harcourt on Tuesday, July 15, 2003, with interment at the United Church Cemetery, Harcourt. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Passed peacefully away at Bonnews Lodge, Badgers Quay, on July 8, 2003, Ethel Mary Reid, age 61, from Charlottetown. Predeceased by her father, Thomas and sister, Diane. Leaving to mourn with many fond and loving memories her husband, Lawrence; three children, Gary (Donna), Randy (Vera Lynn) and Paulette (Dieter) Gibbons; five grandchildren, Tracy (Dion), Courtney, Jared, Paige and Reid; and a large circle of family and friends. Rested at the Salvation Army in Charlottetown from where the funeral service, officiated by Captain Charlene Hillier, took place on July 10, 2003, with interment following. Passed unexpectedly away at the Health Science Center in St. John's on Thursday, July 10, 2003, Jean Keats, aged 59 years of Port Blandford. Predeceased by twin sister, Joan; parents, Elsie and Benjamin Rowe. Left with fond and loving memories her husband, Frank of 36 years; daughter, Trudy (Elias Tucker) at Bunyan's Cove; sons, Craig (Gail) at Alberta and Shawn (Joanne) at British Columbia; brothers; Alex Rowe (Hilda) at Clarenville, Ron Rowe (Donna) at British Columbia and Frank Rowe (Deena) at Alberta; grandchildren, Ariel, Sierra, Damien, Samantha; and a large number of relatives and friends. Funeral took place from St. Alton United Church, Port Blandford on Sunday, July 13, 2003, with interment at the United Cemetery, Port Blandford. Leaving to mourn one brother Alonzo and sister Margaret Penney (Joseph); plus many other nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Rested at the Anglican Church, Cannings Cove, from where the funeral, officiated by the Reverend Chuck Lockhart, took place on Monday, July 21, 2003 at 1:30 p.m., with interment following. Surrendered after a long battle with Lou Gerhig's Disease at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Saturday, July 19, 2003, Blaine Crawford of Clarenville in his 46th year. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories his best friend and wife Marie of five years; sons Justin and Brian at Truro, NS; step-daughters Sarah at Truro, NS, Brittany and Breanna at Clarenville; sister Isabell (George Lewis) at Amherst, NS; brother Lloyd (Karen) at Wentworth, NS; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Cremation took place on July 19, 2003. A memorial service was held on Monday, July 21, 2003, from Memorial United Church, Clarenville.

CHATMAN, Bernice Marjorie
It is with great sadness the family of the late Bernice Marjorie Chatman (nee Oldford), age 66, from Cannings Cove, announce her tragic loss on July 22, 2003. Predeceased by her daughter Mardine and husband Augustus. Her children Wade (Angela), Terrence (Beth), Michael (Bonnie), Pauline (Roger Gould) and Lorie (Shawn Parsons) cannot express the emptiness they have been left with and can only hold on to precious memories as with those of the grandchildren Tanya, Krista, Sonya, Samantha, Haley and Colby. Also leaving with many fond and loving memories are her sisters Muriel, Leona and Rose (Roy); brothers Augustus (Minnie), Douglas, Ronald (Penny), Mansfield (Doris) and Donald (Jessie); plus a large number of other relatives and friends. Rested at the Anglican Church, Cannings Cove, from where the funeral, officiated by the Reverend Chuck Lockhart, took place on Friday, July 25, 2003, at 2 p.m., with interment following. GOULD, Alvin
Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on Tuesday, July 22, 2003, after a courageous battle with cancer, Alvin Gould of Charleston, aged 58 years. Predeceased by his mother Alice in January 1998 and father William in July 1998. Left with fond and loving memories his wife Greta of 37 years, sons Kerry Gould at Ontario and Kylie Gould (Kelly Quinton) at Charleston. Also, brothers Morris (Sally) at Ontario and Hazen (Mamie) at Ontario; grandchildren Alyx, Alicia and Tyler; 14 nieces and nephews; and a large number of relatives and friends. Remains rested at St. Thomas' Anglican church in Charleston. Funeral took place at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 25 at St. Thomas' Anglican church with interment at the Anglican Cemetery in Charleston.
Will be sadly missed by family and Friends.
