Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Complex on Friday, June 21, 2002, Delilah Humby, age 80, from Summerville. She will be sadly missed by her loving husband, Hezekiah; sons, Cyril (Jean), Chesley (Dorothy) and Baxter (Crystal); seven grandchildren, Cheryl, David, Roger, Duane, Jamie, Corby and Janine; and four great-grandchildren. Rested at the United Church, Summerville from where the funeral took place on Monday, June 24, 2002 with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

REID, Leslie
Passed peacefully away at Harbour Lodge, Carbonear on Wednesday, June 26, 2002, Leslie A. Reid of North Harbour; aged 77 years. Predeceased by brothers, Bill and Stan. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife, Pearl of 52 years; daugh­ters, Dianne (Robert Singleton) and Pamela (Willis Carson), both of North Harbour; sons, Alfred (Rowena), Labrador City and Bob (Lorraine), New Brunswick; brother, Edmund (Hilda), North Harbour; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Rosie Reid, North Harbour; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Rested at Pentecostal Church, North Harbour. Funeral service held Saturday, June 29, 2002 from Pentecostal Church, North Harbour with interment at Pentecostal Cemetery, North Harbour. Passed peacefully away at the Pentecostal Seniors Home, Clarke's Beach on Tuesday, June 25, 2002, Lily Smith, formerly of Swift Current, aged 89 years. Predeceased by her husband, Cyrus, 2001. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his daughters, Jennie Parsons (Alex), St. John's, Hilda Loder (Raymond), Fort McMurray, AB and Dorothy Snook (Allen), Deer Lake; sons, Clarence (Pearl), Athabasca, AB, Lloyd (Patsy), Come-By-Chance, Alonzo (Carrie), Gibbons, AB and Lewis (Bernice), Boyle, AB; 25 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; nephew, Roy Gilbert, Labrador City and a large circle of relatives and friends. Rested at Pentecostal Church, Swift Current. Funeral service held on Thursday, June 27, 2002, from Pentecostal Church, Swift Current with interment at Pentecostal Cemetery, Swift Current. SIMMONDS, Abraham
Passed peacefully away at Sunshine Manor, Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Tuesday, June 25, 2002, Abraham Simmonds of Canning's Cove, aged 91 years. Leaving to mourn with fond memories his brothers, Albert and Ethelbert, both of Canning's Cove and a large number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Rested at Anglican Church, Canning's Cove. Funeral service took place on Friday, June 28, 2002 from Anglican Church, Canning's Cove with interment at Anglican Cemetery, Canning’s Cove. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville.

MARTIN, Fenton
Passed peacefully away at the G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on June 09, 2002, Fenton Martin of Bunyan's Cove in his 87th year. Predeceased by wife, Essie and second wife, Mary. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories son, Allen (Ethel); grandsons, Carson (Dot) and Ashley; great-grandson, Damien; sister, Gwen all at Bunyan's Cove; plus a large circle of other family and friends. Rev. Demmons officiated funeral service from United Church, Bunyan's Cove with interment following at United Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Blundon's Funeral Home, Shoal Harbour.

MESH, Cecil (Cec)
Passed away suddenly at his home in King's Cove on June 18, 2002, Cecil (Cec) James Mesh, Age 76. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, his wife, Rose of 37 years; daughters, Sharon (Derwin), Judy (Corey), Brenda; sons, Cecil and John (Sheila); grandchildren, Jeremy, Julie, Tyler, Brandon and Emma; sisters, Triffie, Myrtle and Veta; brothers, Gershin and Wilson. Cecil is predeceased by son, Douglas. Funeral services were held at St. James Anglican Church, King's Cove on Friday June 21, 2002 with interment at Anglican Cemetery, Keels.

Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on June 21, 2002, Vallance Butt, age 69. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Yvonne; daughters Christine (Gene Mayo) and Dianne (Junior); sons Derek (Faye) and Perry; five grandchildren; brothers Claud (Betty) and Arthur (Gladys); sister Elvie Rideout; sister-in-law Flora; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Rested at the All Saints Anglican Church, North West Brook from where the funeral took place on Monday, June 24, 2002 with interment following. LAMBERT, Sarah Jane
Passed away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Friday, June 21, 2002, Sarah Jane Lambert of Hatchet Cove, aged 96 years. Predeceased by her husband, Malcolm and son, Nelson. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her daughters, Susie (John Duffett), Catalina, Geneva (David Tucker), St. Jones Within; sons, Wesley (Loretta) and Alex (Selina) of Hatchet Cove; daughter-in-law, Velma Lambert of Hatchet Cove; sister-in-law, Mary Martin of Mount Pearl; 15 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. Remains rested at the Anglican Church, Hatchet Cove. Funeral service held on Monday, June 24, 2002, from the Anglican Church, Hatchet Cove with interment at Anglican Cemetery in Hatchet Cove. Passed peacefully away at the Miller Centre, St. John's on June 24th, 2002, Edith Walters, age 84, from Petley, Random Island. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, her husband, Jack (John); two sons, Jim (Cavelle) Petley and George (Stella) Corner Brook; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one nephew and a large circle of friends. Rested at Vardy's Funeral Home, Hickman's Harbour. Funeral took place on Thursday, June 27th, 2002 from the Anglican Church in Petley with interment following.

Passed peacefully away after a long illness at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on Tuesday, July 2, 2002, Kenneth Ariel Churchill of Hillview, aged 79 years. Predeceased by his wife Margaret, Left with fond and loving memories his daughter Roma (Harvey) Jackman of Hillview; son Kenneth Jr. (Barbara) of Hillview; sister Violet (Thomas) Benson of Hillview; brothers Arthur (Marion) of Grand Falls-Windsor, Doug (Leila) of Oshawa, ON and Malcolm (Meta) of Hillview; grandchildren Michelle, Melanie, Natasha and Gregory; and a large number of relatives and friends. Remains rested at St. Michael's Anglican Church, Hillview. Funeral service took place at St. Michael's Anglican church, Hillview on Friday, July 5, 2002 with interment at the Anglican Church Cemetery, Hillview. In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Fund can be made to the Anglican Church or Liver Association.

PRESTON, Lorraine Mary (nee Ricketts)
Surrounded by her beloved husband Roland and loving children, Blaine (Linda), Kelli (Chris) and Chuck (Vicky). Passed away peacefully at the Lakeridge Health, Oshawa on Wednesday, June 26, 2002, Lorraine Preston, aged 54, of Oshawa formerly of Knight's Cove, Newfoundland. A much loved daughter-in-law of Charles and Blanche Preston. A loving Nanny who will be sadly missed by Tony, Chloe, Keisha, Taylor, Halee and Liam. Loving sister of Christine, Fran, James and step-sister of Margaret and Thomas. Predeceased by nine brothers and six sisters. Will always be remembered by many extended family and friends. By Lorraine's request, there was no visitation. Cremation. A funeral mass was held at St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church, 194 Simcoe Street North, Oshawa, on Saturday, July 6, 2002. A Committal service will be held at a later date in King's Cove, Newfoundland. Arrangements entrusted to the Byers Funeral Home, South Mountain (613-989-3836).

She died as she lived, peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on July 3, 2002, Ivy Bugden, age 80. Leaving to mourn one son, Freeman (Peggy); three grandchildren, Lloyd, Lori and Jamie (Melissa); two sisters, Edith Bray (St. John's) and Cecilia Burt (Labrador, formerly from Elliott’s Cove, and eight great-grandchildren. Rested at the All Saints Anglican Church in Petley from where the funeral took place on Saturday, July 6, 2002 with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

Passed peacefully away on July 3, 2002 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, age 82 years. Predeceased by her infant son, Raymond; parents, Edgar and Florence Briffett; brothers, William and David. Left with fond and loving memories husband, William; sons, Robert (Angela), Allison, NB, Eric (Barbara), Rothesay, NB, Gerald (Joan), Glovertown, NF. and Harold (Lucie), St. Lazare, PQ; seven grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren, brother, Leroy (Rita) Briffett, Glovertown, NF; sisters, Myrtis (Fred) Budgell, Botwood, NF, Rita (Bob) Armstrong, Washington, Betty (Charles) Spackman, Ottawa, ON, Lydia (Bill, deceased) Hayward, Mississauga, ON and Shirley (Toby) Baker, California; sisters-in-law, Kathline and Margaret Briffett, Saute Ste Marie, ON; and a large number of relatives and friends. Visitation was at Oram's Funeral Home in Glovertown on Friday, July 5,2002. Funeral service took place at Glovertown Central United Church on Saturday, July 6, 2002 at 2 p.m. with interment at Glovertown Central United Church Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Janeway Children's Hospital in her memory.

DALTON, Sarah Louisa
Passed peacefully away at the Bonavista Community Health Centre on June 28, 2002, Sarah Louisa Dalton, aged 90 years of Little Catalina. She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Clara Carter, Port Nelson, Bonavista Bay. Beloved wife of Frederick C. Dalton (deceased). Dear mother and mother-in-law to Clara (deceased), John, wife Emily; Marion, husband Ben Abbott, Winifred, husband Max Duffett and Betty, husband Lionel Eddy. Also, mother to nephew, Marvin B. Johnson and wife Joy. Devoted grandmother to Wylie Dalton and Lori Walsh; Dean, Larry and Craig Abbott and Carolyn Jarvis, Billy Duffett and Betty Parsons, Duana Eddy and Sandra Ducey, also their spouces. Great nanny to 19 great-grandchildren. Loving sister-in-law to Joyce Stagg. Left with fond memories are many relatives and friends, including a very special friend Rita Carpenter. Remains rested at Strathie's Funeral Home, Bonavista. Funeral service was officated by Rev. Graham Cook asisted by Rev. Elsie Pottle on July 01, 2002 from Calvary Memorial United Church. Interment followed at the U.C. Cemetery, Little Catalina.

Passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, Elizabeth Joan Warren (nee Greening), age 53 years. Leaving to mourn husband, Cordell; son, Raymond (Marilyn); granddaughter, Stacey; grandson, Kenny; daughter, Claudette (Jerry); and grandson, Tyler. Predeceased by son, David; parents, Rodger and Beatrice Greening. Loved and sadly missed by sisters, Maude, Rose (Doug), Grace (Wilfred), Ida (Greg), Joyce and Yvonne; brothers, Walt (Effie), Clyde (Rowena), Bill (Claudia), Rick (Sandra) and Verdon; and a large circle of family and friends. Donations in her memory can be made to the North West Brook Cemetery Fund.

- age 57, McKay Road, Newport, NS, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2002 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Clarenville, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of Selina Maude and the late Roland Balsom. She is survived by her daughter, Denise, Newport; son, Chris, Ottawa,-Ontario; brothers, Loren (Eileen) Balsom, Clarenville, Vern (Louise) Balsom, Garnish,- Newfoundland - and Murray (Loretta) - Balsom, Clarenville; sisters,- Wilma Walters, Garnish, Newfoundland, Elaine (George) Cluett, Frenchman's Cove, Newfoundland and Glenda (Bill) Rodgers, St. Jones Within, Newfoundland.

KING, Gideon
Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville, NF. on Tuesday, July 23, 2002, Gideon King, aged 94 years formally of St. Jones Within, NF, whom served in the WW II. Predeceased by his sisters and brothers. Left with fond and loving memories his wife Miriam of 51 years, brother-in-law Richard Strong (Nettie) of Clarenville; two special nieces, Loretta Curtis (Freeman) of Hatchet Cove and Janet Strong (Robert) of Clarenville; and a large number of relatives and friends. Funeral took place Thursday, July 25, 2002 at 2 p.m. from the Memorial United Church, Clarenville with interment to follow at the United Church Cemetery, Clarenville. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville.

FRY, Abraham
Passed peacefully away in Bloomfield on Wednesday, July 24, 2OO2, Abraham Fry aged 63 years, from Princeton. Left with fond and loving memories his wife, Edith of 30 years; one daughter, Lori of Princeton; three sons, Shawn (Pearl) of Princeton, Sheldon (Peggy) of Alberta and  three sisters, Frances Newell of Summerville, Eileen Curl of Princeton and Norma Fry (Adrian) of Alberta; one grandchild; and a large number of relatives and friends. Funeral took place at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Lethbridge on Saturday, July 27, 2002 at 2 p.m. with interment at the Jehovah’s Witness Cemetery in Princeton.

MARSH, Roger
Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Centre on July 22, 2002, Roger Marsh, age 44, from St. John's (formerly from Dunfield). Predeceased by his dad, Walter. Leaving to mourn his loving rnom, Evelyn; five brothers, Gordon (Maureen), Ontario, Claude (Olive), Foxtrap, Leonard (Madeline), St. John's, Howard (Ann) St. John’s and Philip, Dunfield; four sisters Mildred Gaudette (Finton), Corner Brook, Barbara King (Raymond) St. John’s, Monica King (Gary), St. John’s and Connie Tobin (Raymond), St John. Also a large circle of  nieces, nephews and friends. Rested at the Anglican Church in Dunfield from where the funeral took place on July 24, 2002. Interment followed at the Anglican cemetery in Trinity. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.
