January 6, 2003

AVERY, Susan
Passed peacefully away at Golden Heights Manor, Bonavista on December 25, 2002, Susan Avery of Deep Bight in her 99th year. Predeceased by husband, Wallace; sons, George; Harold and Leslie; and daughter, Doris. Left with fond and loving memories her family daughters, Irene (Charles) Hiscock of Deep Bight and Bernice Whalen of Caplin Cove; sons, Edgar (Bonnie), Eric, Wilson and Otto (Marjorie) all of Deep Bight; a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; also a large number of relatives and friends. Funeral took place from the United Church in Deep Bight on Saturday, December 28, 2002.

RODWAY, Minnie
Passed away suddenly at her residence on Wednesday, January 1, 2003, Minnie Rodway of Come-By-Chance, aged 59 years. Predeceased by her father, Ernest; and sister, Myrtle. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband, Clyde of 27 years; mother, Beatrice Whalen, Clarenville; sister, Martha (Jack Drodge), Little Heart's Ease and Hilda (Jake Smith), Clarenville; brother, Norman Whalen (Frances), Little Heart's Ease; nieces and nephews; and a large number of relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville and Little Hearts Ease. Funeral service held or Saturday, January 4, 2003, from United Church, Caplin Cove with interment at United Cemetery, Caplin Cove. Ir her memory donations may be made to Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital or Janeway Children's Hospital.

KING, Helen
Passed away Jan. 1, 2003, at the Hoyles-Escasoni Complex, St. John's, Helen King in her 81st year. Predeceased by her husband, Captain George and son, William Macaulay. Left to mourn daughter-in-law, May; grandchildren, Tina and Scott and family; brother, Harold Lord (Pearl) all of New Brunswick; son, Ronald Smith (Evelyn) and grandchildren of South Africa; other family and friends. Funeral service was held Friday, Jan. 3 from Faith United Church, St. Jones Within.

DIAMOND, Doris
At the age of 94, Doris reached the end of her life's journey at the Golden Heights Manor, Bonavista, on January 3, 2003. Predeceased by her husband, Joseph; son, William; granddaughter, Lorraine Greening; great-granddaughter, Marion Russell; son-in-law, Archbald Penney; and daughter-in-law, Dianne Diamond. Doris will be forever loved and cherished by her daughters, Effie Prince (Baxter), Joy Chatman (Roland) and Dove Penney; sons, Mansfield (Alice), Raymond and Joseph Jr. (Violet); 22 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Rested at the Golden Rule Lodge #228, Lethbridge. Funeral took place on Monday, January 6, 2003, from the Memorial United Church, Lethbridge with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

IVANY, Dorothy Ellen
Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on Friday, January 3, 2003, Dorothy Ellen Ivany, at the age of 74, from Lower Lance Cove, Random Island. Predeceased by her parents, William and Theodosia Duffeft and her husband, Arthur. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories three children, daughter, Marjorie; and sons, Wilson (Christine) and Brian (Daphne); grandchildren, Printzline, Bradley and Stephanie; brother, Stuart; sisters, Amy (Hedley March), Jean (Oliver Ivany), Edna (Harold Simmons); sister-in-laws, Ethel Duffeft, Sophie Duffeft, Phylis Ivany and Louie (Albert Smith); and other relatives and friends. She will be forever loved and sadly missed. Rested at Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island. Funeral took place on Sunday, January 5, 2003 from the United Church, Britannia with interment following.

PRINCE, Miriam
Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Saturday, January 4, 2003, Miriam Prince of Clarenville, aged 73 years. Leaving to mourn her husband, Rex; four daughters, Ivy Barfett (Wesley), Jennette Reader (Den), Bernice Holloway (Shannon) and Cavell Stringer (Rocky); four sons, Larry (Jackie), Roy (Bonnie), Monty (Debbie) and Jenrey (Lela); 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Prince (Al), Bishop's Falls, Martha Boudreau, Stony Creek, ON and Bertha Gould (John), Charleston and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service held on Tuesday, January 7, 2003 from Salvation Army Citadel, Clarenville with interment at Pleasant Street Cemetery, CIarenville.

BUTT, Adam LeGrow Janes
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Adam LeGrow Janes Butt, age 78 yrs, announce his passing at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on December 28, 2002. Adam leaves to mourn his loving mom Marion; his beloved wife, Winnie (Winnifred) with many cherished memories; wonderful father to John (Debbie) and Joanne (Junior) Strowbridge; devoted grandfather to John, Adam, Jessica and Megan; sisters, Flora Gardner, Jessie Cheater (Clifford), Mary Duffeft (Allan), Margaret Ivany (Winston) and Barbara King (Cecil); brother, Lloyd (Eleanor); nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Rested at Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island. Funeral took place at the All Saints Anglican Church in Petley on December 31, 2002. Adam was laid to rest at the United Church Cemetery in Britannia.

BAGG, Marion Taylor
April 23, 1920 - December 22, 2002

Passed peacefully away after a short illness at the Health Sciences Complex, Marion Taylor Bagg. Predeceased by husband, Elwood Augustus; and sister, Jessie (Stratton). Leaving to mourn are chil­dren, Ulric, Gertrude (Groves), Guy, Robert, Lloyd and Lynn; brother, Haro!d; and sisters, Gertrude (Blundon), Enie (Alexander), Edie (Wheeler) and Helen (Fillatre), their families and all her friends. Laid to rest at the St. Peter's Anglican Cemetery in Catalina.

Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on January 7, 2003, Lucy Leawood, age 94 years, from Britannia, Random Island. She is predeceased by two daughters, Marjorie Janes and Ruth Langer. She will be lovingly missed by her son, Chesley (Doris); daughters, Gloria (Jim Ray) and Betty (Paul Davison); brother, Norman Currie; sister-in-law, Vida Currie; grandsons, Roger, Paul, David, Curtis, Brian, Blain and Kurt; granddaughters, Marion, Elizabeth, Heidi, Kelly, Cindy, Shirley and Charli; 15 great-grandchildren and a large num­ber of relatives and friends. Rested at the United Church in Britannia from where the funeral took place on January 10, 2003 with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

PARSONS, Gerald
It is with great sadness the family of the late Gerald Parsons, age 65 years, Sunnyside, announce his sudden passing at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on January 8, 2003. He is predeceased by two brothers, Arch (Dorcas) and James; one sister-in-law, Cynthia Parsons; and one brother-in-law, Max Peckford. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Elizabeth (Betty); one son, Robert (Lorrie-Lynn); granddaughter, Alyshia; brother, Aaron; six sisters-in-law, Marie Parsons, Jean Reid (Cyril), Ethel Peckford, Ruby Hart (Edgar), Viola Hart (Norman) and Linda King (Frank); one brother-in-law, Clayton Barrett (Neta); and a large circle of relatives and friends. Rested at the Sunnyside Pentecostal Tabernacle from where the funeral took place on January 11, 2003 with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

PIERCEY, Effie
Passed suddenly away in Clarenville on January 14, 2003, Effie Piercey, age 73. Predeceased by her daughter, Sylvia; brother, Harrison; and brother-in-law, Albert. leaves to mourn her children, Gerald, Melvin (Pauline), Harley, Hedley, Lela (Chesley), Randy (Claudine), Terry, Victor (Sarah), Dennis; Roxanne (Randy), Sharon (Roland) and Wayne; brothers, Albert, Clayton (Francis) and George (Alma); sisters, Violetta; Annie (Russell), Francis (Aubrey), Ivy (Douglas) and Joyce (Gordon); sister-in-law, Belinda; 28 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Rested at Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island from where the funeral service took place on Friday, January 17, 2003. Cremation followed.

KEATS, Maud
Passed away at the Bonavista Hospital on Saturday, January 18, 2003, Maud Keats of Bonavista formerly of Newman Cove. Predeceased by husband, Robert in 1983 and special friend, George Hodder in 2002. Leaving to mourn brothers, Rance and Raymond of Newman's Cove and George of St. John's. Also leaving to mourn many nieces and nephew's. Funeral took place on Tuesday, January 21, from Newman's Cove United Church. Interment at the United Church Cemetery.

PENNEY, Herbert Wellington
Passed peacefully away into eternal rest amongst family and friends at St. Claire's Hospital, St. John's, Herbert Wellington Penney, age 74, from Weybridge, Random Island. Predeceased by parents, Edgar and Dolly; brothers, Lester and Monty; sisters, Melvina and Ruby; brother-in-law, Reginald. Herb leaves to moum with fond and loving memories his wife, Jane; daughters, Michelle (Glen Slaney) and Trina; grandsons, Jordan, Joshua and Brent; brothers, Stan (Rita) and Esau (Myrtle); sisters, Roberta, Ivy (Jack) and Edna (Gordon); plus many other relatives and friends. Rested at Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island. Funeral took place on Sunday, January 19, 2003, from the Central United Church. Herbert was laid to rest at the United Church Cemetery in Weybridge.
