Balsom, Alfreda - Passed peacefully away at Clarenville Retirement Centre on Friday, November 26, 2004, Alfreda Balsom, aged 95 years. Predeceased by her husbands Ephriam Balsom and Silas Glover. Leaving to mourn with fond memories her daughter Rita Feltham (Lindbergh) at Clarenville; sister Rita Paul at Gambo; brother Joseph Oram (Emma) at Dover; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a circle of family and friends. Rested at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service held on Sunday, November 28, 2004, from Memorial United Church, Clarenville, with interment at United Cemetery, Clarenville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association.

 

Baird, Donald - Passed away peacefully but suddenly after a courageous battle with cancer at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Saturday, November 27, 2004, Donald Baird of Clarenville, aged 65 years. Predeceased by his mother (1977) and father (1941). Left with fond and loving memories his wife Linda of 42 years; daughter Donna Lynn (Paul) at Clarenville; sons Alexander (Lorrie) at Lethbridge, David (Daphne) at Milton and Kevin (Laurie) at Lethbridge; special thanks to brother-in-law Frederick (Helen) Churchill at Clarenville; sister-in-law Rosalind Churchill at Clarenville and Olive (Colin) Chisholm at Antigonish, NS.; and a large number of step-brothers and step-sisters; grandchildren Donald Baird Jr. and Samantha Baird; a large number of trucking buddies, relatives and friends. Funeral service held on Tuesday, November 30, 2004, from St Mary’s Anglican Church, Clarenville, with interment at Clarenville Interdenominational Cemetery. He was a member of the Royal Armed Forces Tank Division #SN3365.

Seward, Nathan - Passed away suddenly at his residence on Sunday, November 28, 2004, Nathan Seward of Hodge’s Cove, aged 76 years. Predeceased by son Weldon (1981) and grandson Dylan (1990). Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Mary of 47 years; daughters Nellie (Dominic Seward), Gooseberry Cove and Roxanne Seward, Calgary, AB.; brother Baxter Manuel, St. John’s; grandchildren Evan, Nicole, Marshall and April; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Little Heart’s Ease. Funeral service held on Wednesday, December 1, 2004, from St. Mary’s The Virgin Anglican Church, Hodge’s Cove, with interment  Anglican Cemetery, Hodge’s Cv.  

 

Ricketts, Margaret (nee Turner) - of Knights Cove, NL, passed away peacefully in Halifax, NS, to join her beloved husband Vincent, on Wednesday, November 17, 2004, aged 84 years. Predeceased by eight sisters and brothers. Survived by brother Alphonsus of St. Brendan’s, NL. She will be sadly missed by children Eileen (Bruce) at Winnipeg, MB, Alice (John) at Halifax, NS, Agnes (Leif) at Toronto, ON, Brian (Gwen) at Ottawa, ON. Vera (Len) at Regina, SK, and Garry (Christie) at Trinity East, NL; grandchildren Vanessa, Joshua, Chelsea and Brittany; brother-in-law Frank and Felix Ricketts; sisters-in-law Marg Makin, Mary Ricketts, Irene Ricketts, Bride Ricketts and Mary Ann Turner; many nieces and nephews. Rested at Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, King’s Cove. Funeral service was held Nov 22, 2004. Interment at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, King’s Cove. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church would be appreciated.

 

Pye, Greta - Passed away peacefully at her residence in Brooklyn on Saturday, November 27, 2004, Greta Pye of Brooklyn, aged 53 years. Predeceased by her brother Gerald Penney. Left with fond and loving memories her husband Bill of 34 years; daughters Bonnie (John Matthews) at Musgravetown and Natasha Penney (Calvin) at Lethbridge; son Ted (Brenda) at Lethbridge; sisters Shirley (Ernest Smith) at Cannings Cove, Ruth (Malcolm Clouter) at Bunyan’s Cove and Whilomena (Ray Hobbs); brothers Wilfred (Edith Penney) at Alberta and Barry (Linda Penney) at Alberta; sister-in-law Sylvia Penney at Canning’s Cove; grandchildren Damien, Dawson, Sarah, Chyanne, Tristan and Katharine; and a large number of relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Lethbridge. Funeral service held on Tuesday, November 30, 2004, from United Church, Lethbridge. Cremation has taken place.

Currie: It is with great sadness the family of the late Fenwick Currie, age 57, from Britannia, announce his sudden passing at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on December 1, 2004. Predeceased by his wife Cassie; brother David; sister-in-law Ena; and his father Watkin. He will be greatly missed by his mother Vida; brothers Wilfred (Madeline) and Mac; sons Shawn (Lori) and Adam (Angie); daughters Kimberley (Keith) and April (Shawn); grandchildren Cody, Mackenzie, Sara, Cassidy, Sophia, Zachary and Brody. Rested at the United Church, Britannia, from where the funeral service officiated by Mrs. Elsie Squires, took place on Sunday, December 5, with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy’s Funeral Home, Random Island.

Hayward, Baxter John - Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Centre in St. John’s, November 21, 2004, Baxter John Hayward, age 57 years. Predeceased by father A. John Hayward. Leaving to mourn his sad loss, loving wife Patricia, daughter Genevieve, mother Isabel Hayward at Newman’s Cove, brother McEwan (Barbara), two nephews Chad and Blair, mother-in-law Margaret Quinn, sister-in-law Judith, Alison (Richard) and Alexandria (Fred) and extended family in Scotland, Ontario and Newfoundland. Cremation and chapel service were held at Barrett’s Funeral Home, St. John’s, on November 23, 2004. Interment at Anglican Cemetery, Newman’s Cove on November 24, 2004. Donations in his memory to the Lung Association.

 

Trenholm, Elaine (nee Mills) 1945 - 2004 - Passed peacefully away December 1, in Ottawa surrounded by her loving family, Elaine Trenholm (nee Mills). Predeceased by father George. Left with loving memories husband Bob; daughters Cheryl (Erik Woods), Toronto, Heather (Dan Smith), Toronto, Susan (Steve Larratt-Smith), Toronto, and Kathy, Ottawa; mother Annie Belle Mills, St. John’s; sister Paula (Ford Critch), Shoal Harbour; cousins Gail (Alan Bell), St. John’s, David (Delores) Mills, St. John’s; plus a large circle of family and friends. A memorial service was held in Ottawa on December 4th. A future interment will occur in Shoal Harbour in the summer of 2005. Donations can be made to the Cancer Society.

 

Brinston, Bill - Passed away suddenly at Garden Cove on Monday, December 6, 2004, Bill Brinston of Garden Cove, aged 57 years. Predeceased by his parents Ronald and Flora and son Matthew. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Phyllis of 31 years; sons Jeff (Paula), Clarenville, and Dave (Karla Dymond), St. John’s; sister Audrey (Boyde Eddy), Garden Cove, and Betty (Wayne Bussy), Fort McMurray, AB; brothers Don Brinston, Garden Cove, and Ivan (Mildred) Brinston, Fort McMurray, AB; grandchildren Emily McKenna and Maria Rianne Brinston; and a large circle of family and friends. Rested at United Church, Garden Cove. Funeral service held on Thursday, December 9, 2004, from United Church, Garden Cove, with interment at United Cemetery, Garden Cove.

Boutcher, Arthur Rex - Passed away suddenly at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Friday, December 17, 2004, Arthur Boutcher, aged 61 years of Little Harbour, Placentia Bay, NL. Predeceased by parents Llewellyn and Stella Boutcher. Left with fond and loving memories his wife Loretta of 38 years; daughter Judy Hollett (Rodger) at Little Harbour; sons Scott (Shauna) at Grand Prairie, AB, and Danny at Calgary, AB; sister Helen Ingram (Percy) at Little Harbour; brothers Winston (Madeline) at Little Harbour and Gordon (Susie) at Little Harbour; sister-in-law Elsie (Oakley) Johnson at North Harbour; grandsons Brandon, Tyson and Ethan; and a large number of relatives and friends. Rested at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Little Harbour. Funeral took place December 21, 2004, from the St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Little Harbour, with interment at the Anglican Cemetery, Little Harbour. Peddle, Leonard - Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Monday, November 22, 2004, Leonard Peddle of Bloomfield, aged 82 years. Predeceased by wife Anne; daughter Yvonne; son Woodrow; parents Sidney and Caroline Peddle; brothers Gordon, William, and Rex; and sister May. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Hilda; daughters Mona (Mike) and Daphne (Jim); five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and seventeen step-children; sisters Minnie Chaffey and Virginia Fry; sister-in-law Trixie Peddle; and brother Harold (Loretta). Rested at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Lethbridge. Funeral service held on Wednesday, November 24, 2004, from the Salvation Army Islandview Citadel, Musgravetown,  with interment at Salvation Army Cemetery, Musgravetown.

 

Thistle, Albert Harris - Passed away peacefully at Hoyles Home, St. John’s, on Friday, December 17, 2004, Albert Harris Thistle of Shoal Harbour, aged 83 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Ivy of 61 years; sons Edmund (Vivian), Shoal Harbour, and Wayne (Gerri), St. John’s; daughter Beverly (Dave Strong), Fort McMurray, AB; sister Violetta Crocker, Ontario; sister-in-law Una Thistle, Shoal Harbour; grandchildren Mark, David, Jason, Dana, Justin, Tracy and Allan; mother of Mark and David; Gloria, mother of Jason and Dana; ten great-grandchildren; and a large circle of family and friends. Rested at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service held on Monday, December 20, 2004, from Shoal Harbour United Church with interment at Shoal Harbour United Cemetery. Carpenter: Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Complex, St. John’s, on December 9, 2004, Isabelle Katie Carpenter, age 62, from North West Brook. Leaving to mourn her husband Stanley; children Rose (Sidney), Kitty (Percy), Mary (Randy), Gail (Bill), Barry (Alice), Lily (Cecil), Verna (Neil), Derrick (Shannon), Roxane (Dean), Linda (Randy), David (Linda) and Judy (Daniel); 25 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; siblings Meritha, Bonnie (Dan), Flossie (Fred), Joe (Effie), George (Selina), Marie (Alec), Verlie (Murray) and Violet (Cyril); and many other relatives and friends. Rested at the United Church, George’s Brook, from where the funeral service, officiated by Rev. Bob Mercer, took place on Sunday, December 12. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy’s Funeral Home, Random Island.

Martin, Ernest - Passed away suddenly at the Health Science Centre, St. John’s, NL, December 18, 2004, Ernest Martin, aged 73 years of Greenwood Rest Home, Musgravetown, formerly of Bunyan’s Cove. Left with fond and loving memories brother Chester (Emily) at Bunyan’s Cove; one niece Paula Way (Lindsay) at Charlottetown; two nephews Warrick (Pam) at Bunyan’s Cove and Craig (Dana) at Bunyan’s Cove; two-great-neices Colleen at Bunyan’s Cove and Sarah at Bunyan’s Cove; one great-nephew Samuel at Charlottetown; and other relatives and friends. Rested at the United Church, Bunyan’s Cove. Funeral service took place on Monday, December 20, 2004, from the United Church, Bunyan’s Cove, at 2 p. m. with interment at the United Cemetery, Bunyan’s Cove.
