J. Dougald Fowlie
1933-2009

Miramichi - Mr. John Dougald (Doug) Fowlie, husband of Minnie Fowlie of Winnipeg Crescent, Miramichi Retirement Community, passed at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, on Monday afternoon July 20, 2009, at the age of 75. Born in Black River Bridge on September 6,1933, he was the son of the late John G. and Rebecca M. (Godfrey) Fowlie. He was a retired employee of Lafarge Canada Ltd., as well as Courtright Supply Dock Ltd., in Courtright, ON. He was a member of St. Stephen's United Church, Black River Bridge. He was a peacetime Veteran with the Canadian Armed Forces, serving in Germany, France and South Africa.
He is survived by his wife, the former Minnie B..(Blundon) Fowlie; three sons, Darrell Fowlie (Shirley), of Miramichi, Wayne Fowlie (Carol), of Sarnia, ON, and Timothy Fowlie (Helen), of Newcastle, ON one sister, Adelle Libby (Garth), of Moncton; one sister-in-law, Laura Fowlie of Black River Bridge; one brother-in-law, Jack McCabe, of Moncton; two grandchildren, Rachel (Scott) and Jessica; two great-grandchildren, Nolan and Dylan. He was predeceased by three sisters, Jessie Cameron, Elizabeth Martin and Dorothy McCabe; one brother James Fowlie. By request, there will be no visitation at the funeral home. The public is invited to attend a gravesite memorial service to be held at the Black River Community Cemetery on September 6, 2009, at a time to be announced, conducted by Rev. David Cleveland. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Black River Cemetery Fund, or any charity of the donor's choice, would be appreciated by the family. NOLAN - Passed away suddenly at Bonavista Hospital, July 17, 2009, Austin Nolan of Duntara, aged 81 years. Left with loving memories, his wife Julia, of 44 years, sons: Glen (Jacque), Darrin of Duntara, daughters: Gail Maloney (Brian), Corrina Maloney (Bern) of Duntara and Wanda Ricketts (Sean) of Torbay, six grandchildren, one brother Thomas (Marie) at Stephenville and sister Bertha Croke at Logan Lake, BC. Rested at Duntara Community Center. Funeral services officiated by Father Joy, took place on Monday July 20, 2009. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Strathie's Funeral Home, Bonavista.

MOSS, Rita Maude - Passed peacefully away at Dr. Albert O'Mahony Manor, Clarenville on Friday, August 7, 2009, Rita Moss of Jamestown, aged 94 years. Predeceased by husband Ralph (1973), sons Lewis and Bill. Left with fond and loving memories her daughters, Violet (Edmund), Charleston, Dorothy (Eugene), Swift Current and Daphne (Bill), Bloomfield; sons, Melvin (Loretta), Jamestown, David (Patsy), Mount Pearl and Rex (Blanche), Bareneed; sister, Elizabeth Spraklin of Mount Pearl; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and a large circle of family and friends. Rested at Salvation Army, Portland. Funeral service took place on Monday, August 10, 2009 from Salvation Army Citadel, Portland with interment at Salvation Army Cemetery, Jamestown. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Salvation Army, Portland.

KING: (Brown) Alice - Passed peacefully away after a lengthy illness surrounded by her loving family at the Dr. L. A. Miller Center, St. John's, on August 3, 2009. Predeceased by her brothers: Will (Edith), Gordon, Leonard and Jesse (Linda). Left with fond and loving memories her husband of 52 years, Austin, daughters, Margaret (Perry) Stares and grandchildren. Matthew, Joanne and Heather, Sheila and grandsons Joshua and Luke, and Carol (Bijan) Payandch as well as sisters Mildred Hollett, Rita Courage and brother John and a large extended family and many, many friends. BARFETT, Ethel - Passed peacefully away at Carbonear General Hospital on Sunday, August 2, 2009, Ethel Barfett of Clarenville, aged 87 years: Predeceased by her husband, Wilson; infant sister, Emma; Brothers, Albert and Donald. Left with fond and loving memories hers sons, Douglas (Donna), Shoal Harbour and Warrick (Rhonda), Plainfield, ON; sisters, Emma: (the late Elijah Lambert), Southport, Joyce (Gordon Vey), Long Beach and Margaret (Mark Avery), Long Beach; brothers, Worick (Annie), Clarenville and John (Ethel), Toronto; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Juanita, Derek, Pamela and Christina; great-grandchildren, Devon, Dawson, Brady, Mckenna, Jacob, Benjamin, Rebecca and Isabelle and a large circle of family and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service took place on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 from St. Mary's Anglican Church, Clarenville with interment at Pleasant Street Cemetery.

FRY: It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Melvina Colleen Fry (nee Reid), age 43, form Sunnyside, at the Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on August 2, 2009. Leaving to mourn with many precious memories are her loving husband, Elvis; and daughters, Felicia and Joanne; parents, Melvin and Joan Reid; sister, Lynette (Paul) and also a large circle of other relatives and friends. MALONEY: Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G .B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on July 28, 2009, Donald Maloney, age 64, from Sweet Bay. Predeceased by parents, Anthony and Isabella and sister, Jose (Charlie). HYNES, Father Michael R. - Passed peacefully away at Bonavista Hospital on Saturday, August 1, 2009, Father Michael Hynes of Plate Cove West, aged 79 years. Father Hynes was ordained on May 10, 1953 in Bell Island by the Most Reverend John M. O'Neill. He served as parish priest from 1953 - 56 Grand Falls, 1956-59 Harbour Grace, 1959 - 65 Gambo, 1965 - 66 Bay de Verde, CB, 1966 - 79 Plate Cove, BB, 1979-84 Winsor, 1984 - 86 Tilting, Fogo Island, 1987 - 93 King's Cove, - 96 Harbour Breton, 1996 - 2002 Norris Arm and in 2002 he retired and resided in Plate Cove. He will be missed by a large circle of friends, and very dear friend Betty White of USA. Rested at the Roman Catholic Parish Centre, Plate Cove West. Mass of Christian Burial took place on Wednesday, August 5, 2009, Bishop Martin Currie officiating. Interment took place at Harbour Grace on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at the Roman Catholic Cemetery Priests' Plot. Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville.

LANE - Passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer at the Bonavista Health Center on Sunday July 26, 2009, Edward John Lane, aged 63 years. He leaves to mourn his loving and devoted wife Evangeline; three daughters, Tonya McLellan (Brad), Stephanie Hart (Chris) and Nancy Lane; Two sons, Jason Lane (Tracy) and Jeffery Lane (Shelly) and precious grandchildren. Also leaving to mourn are siblings, Kay Peters (Brendan), Marg Flemming, Anthony Lane (Aggie), Paul Lane (Toni) and a number of wonderful brothers and sisters in law and their families. Arrangements Entrusted to Strathie's Funeral Home. Laid to his final resting place Friday, July 31 at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Port Union.
A wonderful husband, father, brother, individual. A man Who said so little yet spoke volumes so deeply loved and sadly missed.

RICKETTS - Passed peacefully away at Bonavista Hospital on Thursday, August 6, 2009, Kathleen Ricketts, aged 88 years, from Knight's Cove. Predeceased by husband Thomas and son Louis. Left with fond and loving memories are her three daughters, Philomena (Gerald), Mary (Jim), Ann (Roy); three sons, Ben (Nora), Bob (Joanne) and Gerald; nine grandchildren, one great-grand-child and her sister Rita Feehan. Rested at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, King's Cove, from where the funeral service took place on August 10, 2009, with interment at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, King's Cove. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Strathie's Funeral Home.

GOOBIE: We regret to announce the sudden passing of Ella Margaret Goobie, age 64, from Queen's Cove, at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John's, on August 14, 2009. Predeceased by parents, Joseph and Caroline Cramm. Leaving to mourn are her husband, Roy; children, Cavell (Mario), Keith (Carol), Marlene (Don) and Kevin (Melissa); grandchildren, Christine, Jennifer, Megan, Dylan and Nathan; great-grandchildren, Joey and Alexander; brothers, Jim (Vera), Bram (Roxanne) and Elmer; sister, Diane (Hubert) and many other relatives and friends. DROVER: In the presence of her loving family, Virtue Doreen Drover (nee Smith), age 73, from Hodge's Cove, passed peacefully away at the Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on August 2, 2009. Predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Rhoda Smith; siblings, Robert, Eliza, Virtue, William, Albert, Ethel and Harold. Leaving to mourn with many fond and loving memories are her husband, Jake; children, Derek (Chriss), Rhonda (Dave), Corinne (Lee), Ralph (Aledia), Darryl (Maria), Deanne (Perry) and Cyril (Michelle); grandchildren, Arlene, Rob, Renee, Tammy, Melissa, Richard, Aaron, Ashley, Phillip, Amber, Brent, Alicia; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Gertie (Ronald Green-deceased), Lorraine (Ralph Baker), Jean (Eldred Avery); brother, Melvin and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rested at the St. Mary's Anglican Church, Hodge's Cove from where the funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Nelson Chatman, assisted by the Rev. Too well loved to ever be forgotten

LAMBERT: Passed peacefully away at his residence on August 19, 2009, Wilson Melvin Lambert, age 80, from Southport. Predeceased by parents, Samuel and Sarah; brothers, Ulysess, Elijah, Henry Thomas (Ethel) and Noah; sisters, Sarah (Charlie Spurrell) and Mary (James Pierce). Leaving to mourn are wife, Miriam; sisters-in-law, Lillian, Emma, Rachel, Phyllis Ford (Ray), Kathleen Haynes (Alvin) and brother-in-law, Albert Smith (Christine), and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Rested at the St. Albans Anglican Church, Gooseberry Cove, from where the funeral service, officiated by Rev. Nelson Chatman, took place August 21st with interment following. SPURRELL: Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on August 19, 2009, Levi Spurrell, age 84, from Southport. Predeceased by wife, Melvie Spurrell. Leaving to mourn are his brothers, Arthur Spurreli and Chesley Spurrell; sons, Raymond (Mandy), Garfield (Judy), Dennis (Bev), Roger (Judith); grandchildren, Kelsey, Lucas, Troy, Rebecca, Jessica and Robyn, and special friend, Emma Lambert.
