DIAMOND, Isabella - Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Thursday, July 27, 2006, Isabelle Diamond of Lethbridge, aged 98 years. Predeceased by her husband, William; sons, Watson, Rex and Calvin; daughters, Lorraine and Charity. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memo­ries her daughters, Annabelle Palmer at Brooklyn, Winnifred Quinton at Port au Port, Eva Penney at Canning's Cove and Rhodena Holloway (Herman) at Lethbridge; son, Don (Rosalind) at George's Brook; 42 grandchildren and a large number of great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Lethbridge. Funeral service held on Sunday, July 30, 2006, from United Church, Lethbridge with interment at United Cemetery, Lethbridge.

 

PEDDLE, William> - Passed away suddenly at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, St. John's, on Friday, August 2, 2006, William Peddle of Clarenville, aged 79 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife, Goldie, of 55 years; daughters, Ruth (Dennis Matchim) at Calgary, AB, Judy (Pat Crisby) at Fort McMurray, AB, >and Mary (Geoff Spurrell) at Shoal Harbour; sons, Goldwyn at Clarenville, Austin (Sylvie) at Ontario, Rick (Belinda) at Clarenville, Barry at Grand Prairie, AB, and Rex (Kelli) at Duncan, BC; sisters, Annie (Nicholas) at Ontario, Lorraine (Dan Pitcher) at Ontario, >Clarice (George Green) at Ontario and Gloria (Sam Halfyard) at Corner Brook ; brothers, Gideon (Viola) at Clarenville and Clarence (Alice) at Clarenville; fifteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchil­>dren and a large number of other relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service held on >Saturday, August 5, 2006, from Pentecostal Church, Clarenville, with interment at Clarenville Interdenominational Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.

 

GILES, Shirley - Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Center in St. John's on Friday, July 28, 2006, Shirley Giles of Garden Cove, formerly of Labrador City, aged 50 years. Left with fond and lov­ing memories are husband, Roland of 32 years; daughter, Julie Halleran (Ray) of St. Vincent's; son, Ernest (Stephanie) of Labrador City; parents, Alex and Addie Piercey of Garden Cove; mother and father-in-law, Ralph and Alma Giles of Garden Cove; sisters, Edwina Williams of Garden Cove, Greta Norris (Cyril) of North West Brook and Leona Piercey-Hollett of Garden Cove; four grandchildren, Alexis, Natasha, Jessie and Walter; and a large number of relatives and friends. Rested at the United Church in Garden Cove on Sunday July 30, 2006. Cremation fol­lowed. Memorial Service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, at the United Church in Garden Cove with interment at the United Church Cemetery in Garden Cove. In her memory a Memorial Fund to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Clinic.

BUTLER, Lev! - Passed peacefully away at the Bonavista Health Care Centre, Bonavista, August 11,2006, Levi Butler, age 84, from Port Rexton. Predeceased by wife, Mary; son, Gilbert; and daughter, Margaret. Leaving to mourn with many fond and cherished memories are his children Audrey (John), Veta (Kevin), Vera (Herb), Cyril (Dorothy), Frances (David), Shirley (Harvey -deceased), Terry (Verlin), Bonnie (Don) and Bruce (Corrina); 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; sister, Mable Clarke; step-sister, Barbara Blair; and many other relatives and friends. Rested at the Christ Anglican Church, Port Rexton, from where the funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Robert Peddle, took place on Monday, August 14, 2006, with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

SPURRELL, Mary - Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Tuesday, August 15, 2006, Mary Spurrell of Clarenville, aged 83 years. Predeceased by daughter, Olga; son, Kevin; sister, Blanche Coady; brother, William Smith; grandson, Geoffrey Paul; and great-grandson, Kevin. Leaving to mourn the love of her life, her devoted hus­band, Arthur, of 60 years; children, Blanche (Alfred Stringer), Hughie (Beverly), Terry (Wanda), Christine (late Junior Seward), Patsy (Stanley Soper), Leon (Joanne), Karen (Angus Sutherland), Geoffrey, Norma Baker, Randy (Diane), Shawn (Norma) and Denise (Rodney Pottle); daughter-in-law, Marjorie; 33 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and a large number of family and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service held Friday, August 18, 2006, from St. Mary's Anglican Church, Clarenville, with interment at the Interdenominational Cemetery, Clarenville. In her memory donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society.

 

AVERY, Geraldine - Passed peacefully away in the pres­ence of her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Thursday, August 17, 2006, Geraldine Avery of Adeytown, aged 55 years. Predeceased by her son, Jody; dad, Cyril Thomas; brother, Willis; and father-in-law, Walter Adey. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving mem­ories her husband, Wince, of 37 years; mother, Ethel Thomas, Hodge's Cove; sons, Michael (Tammy), St. John's, and Trevor (Lisa), Adeytown; sisters, Ella (Jim Peddle), Hodge's Cove, Patsy (Richard Goobie), Queen's Cove, and Ethel (Don Seward), Hodge's Cove; brothers, Doug (Ruth) and Ron (Greta), both of Hodge's Cove; pre­cious grandchildren, Mitchell, Braeden and Kendra; moth­er-in-law, Violet Avery, Deep Bight; brothers-in-law, Milton Avery (Vicki), Alberta, and Lindo Avery (Lorraine), Deep Bight; sister-in-law, Vera (Gerald Stoyles), Fort McMurray, AB; special friend, Renee King; and a large number of family and friends. BROOKES, Ruth A. (nee Dalton) - Passed peacefully away on Saturday, August 19, 2006, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel, New Jersey, after a coura­geous battle with cancer, Ruth A. Brookes, aged 70 years, formerly of Catalina. Predeceased by parents, Fred and Mae Dalton; brothers, Clarence and Ron; and sisters, Jean and Shirley. Leaving to mourn with fond memories her hus­band, William; daughter Robin (Keith) Barr of Hazlet, New Jersey; son William (Kim) of Union Beach, New Jersey; grandchildren, Charles and Colleen Barr; special aunt, Lily Dalton; and a number of other relatives and friends. Rested at Day Funeral Home, Keyport, New Jersey. Funeral service held Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet, New Jersey.

MILLER - Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on August 20, 2006, Raymond George Miller, age 73, from New Bonaventure. Predeceased by parents, Joseph and Ethel Grace; sisters, Annie Francis and Beatrice; brother, Chester (Janet); and sister-in-law, Ruby. Leaving to mourn his wife of 49 years, Louise; children, Linda (Lloyd McGrath), Eileen (Calvin Miller), Raymond (Connie) and Randy; grandchildren, Trena, Kelsey, Lindsey and Lee; sister, Jessie (Isreal McGrath); brothers, Aaron and Roy Miller; and other relatives and friends. Rested at the St. John Anglican Church, New Bonaventure, from where the funeral service, officiated by Rev. Robert Oldford, took place on Wednesday, August 23, 2006, with interment following. JANES - Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on August 19, 2006, Norman Walter Janes<, age 67, from New Bonaventure. Predeceased by parents, Stephen George and Annie; and first wife, Hilda. Leaving to mourn, wife, Daisy; children, Larry (Sigi), Cavell (Alfred Bishop), Gary (Printline), Betty Coates, Norman (Jennifer) and Karen Janes; step-brother, Elkanah Clarke; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Rested at the St. John Anglican Church, New Bonaventure, from where the funeral service, officiated by Rev. Robert Oldford, took place on Tuesday, August 22, 2006, with interment following at the Anglican Cemetery, Trouty. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

(1919-2006)

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Verna Baker announces her passing at the Palliative Care Unit, Western Memorial Regional Hospital, on Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at the age of 87 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories daughters, Melvina (Max) Simmons of Green's Harbour, Lorraine (Don) Burton of Corner Brook and Vivian (Gerry) Cranford of Prince Edward Island; sons, Hansel (Margaret) of Elliston and Alvin (Grace) of St. John's; ten grandchildren; four­teen great-grandchildren; sisters, Mamie (Calvin) Pelly of Gander and Nellie (Wallace) Chaulk of Belleville, ON; and a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends in Corner Brook and Elliston. Visitation was held at Strathie's Funeral Home, Bonavista, on Friday, August 25, 2006, from 7 - 9 p.m. and Saturday, August 26, 2006, from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. The funeral service took place on Sunday, August 27, 2006, at 1 p.m. at Elliston Memorial United Church with Rev. Larry Noseworthy officiating. Interment at Elliston United Church Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or the Elliston United Church Fund.
