JANES, Jacob
It is with great sadness the only son, Anthony (Irene), announce the loss at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on July 28, 2003, of a very dear father and grandfather, Jacob Janes, age 73, from Petley Predeceased by his wife, Olive; sister, Lillian (Lander) and brother, Garfield. Besides his son, Jacob leaves behind his loving and caring grandchildren, Darnelle and April; brother, Norman (Daisy); step-brother, Elkanah; compassionate and caring neighbours, Margaret and Clyde; and many other relatives and friends. Rested at the All Saints Anglican Church, Petley from where the funeral, officiated by Rev. Eric Squires, took place on Thursday, July 31, 2003, 2 p.m. Jacob was laid to rest at the Anglican cemetery, Petley.

PENNEY, Cyril
Passed unexpectedly away at the Health Science Complex, St. John's, on July 24, 2003, Cyril Penney, age 60, from Bunyan's Cove. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Daphne; children, Roger, Rodney (Nicole), Jeffrey, Robert, Robin and Vanessa; brother and sisters, William (Iris), Martha Hobbs (Gordon), Olive Dwyer and Hezekiah (Daphne); and many other relatives and friends. Rested at St. Michael's and All Angels Church, Bunyan's Cove, from where the funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Chuck Lockhart, took place on July 27, 2003, with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

SMITH, Hannah Jane
Passed peacefully away at Dr  G  B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Tuesday, July 29, 2003, Hannah Jane Smith (nee Baker) of Hodge's Cove, aged 69 years. Leaving to moum with fond and loving memories her husband, Eliab of 48 years; daughter, Roma Blundon (Geoffrey), Stephenville; sons, Sidney (Marilyn), Hodge's Cove and Conrad (Janet), Caplin Cove; sister, Dorothy Vey (John), Long Beach; brothers, Hayward (Joyce), New Glasgow, Eleazer (Mae), Hodge's Cove, Ralph (Lorraine), Hodge's Cove, John (Joan), Milton and Bill (Janet), Mount Pearl; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and a large circle of family and friends. Rested at the United Church, Hodge's Cove. Funeral service held on Thursday, July 31, 2003, from the United Church, Hodge's Cove, with interment at United Church Cemetery, Hodge's Cove. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville.

SMITH, Boyce C.
Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on Sunday, July 27, 2003, Boyce C. Smith of Clarenville in his 84th year. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories; his wife of 59 years, Lavenia (Fifield); daughters, Dolores (Alex) Balsom and Sandra (Ross) Wiseman; sons, Wayne (Rosalind) and Lorne; grand­children, Mark (Pam) Balsom, Michelle Smith, Jackie Smith (Andrew), Matthew (Tina) Balsom, Steven (Deanna) Smith, Melissa Wiseman (Jon), Allan -Smith (Nicole), Mitchell Wiseman and Brian Smith; great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Ashley, Emily and Avery; and a large number of relatives and friends. Remains rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. The funeral took place at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 30, at Central United Church, Random Island, with inter­ment at the United Church Cemetery in Elliott's Cove. Donations in his memory gratefully accepted to the Dr. G. B. Cross Foundation or a charity of one's choice.

REID, Margaret Grace (nee Ball)
Margaret Grace Reid (nee Ball)
, age 62 of Shoal Harbour passed peacefully away at St Clare's Hospital on Thursday, July 24, 2003, in the presence of her family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Leaving to mourn her loving husband, Roy; sons, Greg (Mary), Russ (Karen), Darrin (Eileen) and Shawn (Michele); daughters, Katherine (Roger George), Suanne (Geoff Budden), Sherrie, Sharron and Heather (Adam Bastow); granddaughters, Joy Hiscock, Jamie Hiscock, Jillian Reid, Laura Budden and Erica Budden and baby Reid (due in September); grandsons, Matthew and Travis; brother, Geoff Ball (Louise); brother-in-law, Douglas Reid; sister-in-law, Jean Hillier; and many other relatives and friends. Recently predeceased by brother-in-law, Wilmore Reid. Cremation has taken place. Visitation took place at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville, Saturday, July 26, 2003, from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. and Sunday, July 27, 2003, 10 am. - 12 noon, funeral took place Sunday at 2 pm. from United Church, Shoal Harbour Margaret supported many charities, including those in support of Christian Children's Fund, leprosy relief and cancer research. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to one of these charities or a charity of one's choice.

Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on July 26, 2003, Susannah Smith, age 86, from Petley. Predeceased by her parents, Elizabeth (nee Bursey) and Stephen Button; husband, William; daughter, Shirley Pitcher; sisters, Stella, Jessie, Marjorie and Evelyn; and brothers, Leonard, Raymond and Harold. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her son, Boyd (Cavell); nephew, Lloyd Currie (Jane) whom she raised from the age of nine; son-in-law, Walter; grandson, Roy; granddaughters, Debbie (Scott), Patricia (Jason) and Natasha; great-grandson, Lucas; and brother, Morley (Katie). Susie is also leaving behind a large circle of relatives and friends. Rested at Vardy's Funeral Home, Hickman's Harbour. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Sonja Bent, took place at Britannia United Church on Monday, July 28, at 2 p.m. Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery, Britannia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Britannia United Church Memorial Fund.

Passed away at the Miller Centre, St. John's on Monday, August 12, 2003, after a courageous battle with cancer, Eunice Williams of St. John's. Predeceased by her mother and father, Gertrude and Edgar Williams; companion, Ken Barry, and niece, Debbie Williams. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her brothers, Stanley (Rebecca), Arnold's Cove and Charles (Ethel), St. John's; sister, Gladys, Corner Book; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; her two cats Red and Whitey whom she loved dearly. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Arnold's Cove. Funeral service held on Friday, August 15, 2003 from United Church, Arnold's Cove with interment at Interfaith Cemetery, Arnold's Cove. Donations in her memo­ry may be made to the United Church, Arnold's Cove (Cemetery Fund) or the Newfoundland Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation.

SUTTON, Tryphena
Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Wednesday, August 13, 2003, Tryphena Sutton of Burgoynes Cove, aged 88 years. Predeceased by her husband, William; two sons, Chesley and Oliver; two daughters, Dorothy and Hazel; and son-in-law, Hiram Hyde. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her daughter, Clara Hyde, Harcourt; son, Cyril (Dione), Mississauga, ON; daughter-in-law, Nellie Sutton, Harcourt; sister, Sarah Miller, Trinity; sister-in-law, Louise Hayward, Scarborough, ON; grandchildren, Hazel George (Roy), Earl Hyde (Sylvia), Guy Hyde (Jackie), Amanda Hyde and foster granddaughter, Mary Young; seven great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and a circle of family and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service took place on Saturday, August 16, 2003 from St. Mary's Anglican Church, Burgoynes Cove with interment at Anglican Cemetery, Burgoynes Cove. In her memo­ry donations may be made to Sunshine Manor or St. Mary's Anglican Church, Burgoynes Cove.

GREEN, Mary
Passed away at the Valley Vista Seniors Complex, Springdale, on August 7, 2003, Mary Green, age 70, formerly from Ontario, Dover, Sunnyside and Random Island. Predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Irene Clark; husband, Herbert; children, Barbara and Gordon; and brother, Ronald. Leaving to mourn with many fond and loving memories; grand-son, Larry; and daughter, Nancy, sister, Barbara Sare (Alfred); brothers, Fred Clark (Dawn) and Ralph Clark; sister-in-law, Susie Baker and a large number of nieces, nephews and friends. Rested at Vardy's Funeral Home, Hickman's Harbour. The funeral service took place, officiated by Rev. Sonja Bent, at the United Church in Lady Cove on Sunday, August 10, 2003. Mary's body was laid  to rest at the United Church Cemetery in Lady Cove.

Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B.Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenvllle on Sunday, August 10, 2003, Dorothy L Balsom of Clarenville, aged 89 years Predeceased by her husband, Wallace. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her daughters, Nelda (Boyd Adams), Milton, Jewel (Newman Tulk), Aspen Cove, Notre Dame Bay and Alison (George Homer), Shoal Harbour; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a circle of other relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service took place on Wednesday, August 13, 2003 from Memorial United Church, Clarenville with interment at United Cemetery, Church Hill, Clarenville.

Predeceased by brothers, Edmund and Gordon; and sister, Dorothy. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife, Alfreda of 51 years; daughters, Joyce Smith, Clarenville and Velma (Clifford Lambert), Hodge's Cove; sons, Harvey, (Susan), Hodge's Cove; Leslie (Wanda), Southport and Clifford (Vera), St. Jones Within; sister, Myra (William Avery), Shoal Harbour and Lily Lambert, Southport; brother, George (Nellie), Gooseberry Cove; nine grandchildren and a circle of family and friends. Rested at Fewers Funeral Home, Little Heart's Ease. Funeral service held on Friday, August 22, 2003 from Bethany United Church, Southport with interment at United Cemetery, Little Heart's Ease.

PITCHER, Eli
Promoted to glory August 18, 2003, predeceased by wife, Jean, wife, Rosie, sister, Mary, brother, Eric. Leaving to mourn daughters, Barbara (Snowden Norris), Carrie (Lloyd Critch), Sophie (David Evans); son, Stewart (Marlene); grandchildren, Craig, Corina, Chad, Paul, Darrell, Stanley, David, Justin, Deanne, Kerrie and Kristin; great-grandchildren, Mark, Mandy, Blaine, Chelsea, Emily, Lucas and Kira. Special friend, Frances Penny; sister, Carrie; brothers, Arch, Silas and Hector. Rested at the Salvation Army Citadel, Hickman's Harbour. Funeral took place, officiated by Capt. Wilfred and Wavey Simms, at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 21, 2003. No flowers by request. Memorial donations may be made to Salvation Army Citadel, Hickman's Harbour. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

MANNING, Clarence Thomas
Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on August 8, 2003, Clarence Thomas Manning, in his 79th year. Left with fond and loving memories his wife, Norma Manning; daughters, Mrs. Janet Hammond of Calgary and Ms. Shirley Porter of Clarenville; six grandchildren; Daniel, Kyle, Dylan, Andre, Chantal, Rochelle; sisters, brothers and a large number of relatives and friends. Funeral was held at 2 p.m. on August 11, 2003 at the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. Clarence was laid to rest at the Old Lawn Cemetery in Lawn. Donations accepted on behalf of Children's Cancer Research.

TULK, Audrey
Passed peacefully away on August 21, 2003 at James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Audrey Tulk of Aspen Cove, age 67. Predeceased by parents, Stanley and Kathleen Steele. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are husband Kenneth; son Geoff (Cynthia) of Aspen Cove; daughter, Marguerite Leyte (David) of Fogo Island; brother, Harry Steele (Catherine) of Halifax/Gander; grandchildren, Char-Lee and Tyson Tulk; and a large circle of family and friends. Funeral service was held on August 23 at the United Church, Aspen Cove with Rev. Parsons officiating, assisted by Rev. Chaulk. Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery, Aspen Cove. In memory, donations may be made to the Aspen Cove United Church or to the Central Northeast Health Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Kittiwake Funeral Home, Musgrave Harbour-Pound Cove.

HOLLOWAY, AIbert Clyde
Passed away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, or Sunday, August 10, Albert Holloway of Southern Bay (formerly of Lethbridge) in his 83rd year. Predeceased by his wife Emily. Leaving to mourn his second wife, Winnifred  sons, Garfield (Bertha), Austin (Rosalyn), Eugene (Wanda), Kerry (Darlene); daughters, Shirley, Linda (Don Chatman), Geraldine (Watson Holloway), Maisie (Paul Ennis) and Kay (Eugene Stead); brother, Herman; and sisters Edna Kezia and Minnie. Also left to mourn are 27 grandchildren 29 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. The funeral service took place on Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at the Salvation Army in Lethbridge, officiated by Capt Julia Butler, with interment at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Lethbridge.
