August 5, 2002

BUTT, Nellie
Passed peacefully away at Shirley's Haven, Catalina, on Saturday, July 27, 2002, Nellie Butt of Catalina, formerly of Flat Islands, aged 94 years. Predeceased by her husband, Roland, 1986; and grandson, Derek, 1990. Left with fond and loving memories daughters, Joyce (Frank Samson) and Elsie (Elias Hunt); sons, Sid (Evelyn),Cliff (Barbara) and Frank (Shirley); 17 grandchildren ; 20 great-grandchildren; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on Tuesday, July 30, 2002, from Bethany United Church, Catalina. Interment at United Church Cemetery, Catalina.

WHITE, Elaine (Dean)
Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville in her 73rd year, Elaine Genevieve (Dean) White formerly of Kitchener, Ontario. She is predeceased by her husband Jack Isaac White; parents Thomas Joseph and Mary (Oster) Dean; and her one brother Carl. Leaving to mourn niece Mary Ann Farwell, husband Bernie and great nieces and nephews Tom, Heather, Michael and Pam, all of Ontario, Reg, Christine, Skyler and Goddaughter Angelina Butt; the White Families and members of St. Anne's Altar Society. Rested at Strathie's Funeral Home, Bonavista. Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's, Roman Catholic Church Bonavista, April 8, 2002, with interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Bonavista, NF. Life time circle of friends and pen pals from all over Canada, the United States and her adopted province of Newfoundland mourn her passing.

DEAN, Arthur Frederick Sr.
Passed peacefully away at home on July 28, 2002, surrounded by his loving family, Arthur Dean of Clarenville in his 82nd year. Predeceased by wife, Agnes and second wife, Lorraine; as well as daughters, Rita and Agnes Jane. leaving to mourn with loving memories his children, Jessie, Ivy, Dot; and Fred; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a large circle of other family and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Little Heart's Ease. Funeral service took place on Tuesday, July 30, 2002, from Memorial United Church, Clarenville, with interment at United Church Cemetery, Clarenville. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville:

LASKEY, Patricia
Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on August 01, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer, Patricia Laskey (nee Cotter), aged 53 years. Left to mourn with fond memories, her loving husband, Ralph; son, David; daughter, Diane; sister Mabel Reid; nephew, Stephen; niece, Jeannette and a large circle of relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service took place from the United Church, Shoal Harbour on Sunday, August 4, 2002, at 2 p.m. with interment at the new United Cemetery, Shoal Harbour. In her memory donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville.

STRINGER, Ivy Doris
Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Monday, August 12, 2002, Ivy Doris Stringer of Clarenville, aged 67 years. Predeceased by her parents, John and Agnes Jane; and sister, Blanche, Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her son, Marvin, Clarenville; sister, Virtue (Norman Drodge), Clarenville; brother, Aubrey (Francis), Clarenville and Eli (Marie), Clarenville; home care workers, Louise Stanley, George's Brook, Sadie Stanley, Clarenville and Joyce Chaulk, George's Brook; and a large circle of family and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service took place on Thursday, August 15, 2002, from Memorial United Church, Clarenville with interment at Clarenville Interdenominational Cemetery. In her memory flowers were gratefully accepted or donations may be made to the family or to the Canadian Diabetes Association

AVERY, Leslie
Passed peacefully away at the Luxury Village Home, Old Perlican on Sunday, August 11, 2002, Leslie W. Avery of Deep Bight, aged 70 years. Predeceased by father, Wallace; brother, Harold; and sis­ter, Doris (Dot). Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his mother, Susan, Golden Heights Manor, Bonavista; children, Tina (Ronald), Labrador City, Stanley (Kathy), Miramichi, NB, Linda, Labrador City and Jennifer (Harvey), Lower Island Cove; sisters, Irene (Charles), Deep Bight and Bernice Whalen, Little Heart's Ease; brothers, Otto (Marjorie), Edgar (Yvonne), Wilson and Eric, all of Deep Bight; five grandchildren, Robin, Najaula, Harrison, Logan and Katherine; and a large cir­cle of relatives and  friends. Rested at United Church, Deep Bight. Funeral service held on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 from United Church, Deep Bight with interment at United Cemetery, Deep Bight. In his memory donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Janeway Hospital.

Barnes, Watson S.
Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Tuesday, August 13, 2002, Watson Barnes of Shoal Harbour in his 94th year. Predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth, 1982, his mother and father, five brothers and four sisters. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his daughter, Helen (Ben Warren), Deep Bight; sons, Patrick (Doris), St. John’s and Robert, Monroe; brother, Curtis (Martha), Shoal Harbour; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer’s Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service held on Friday at Shoal Harbour United Church with interment at United Cemetery, Shoal Harbour. In his memory donations may be made to Shoal Harbour United Church.

Wilson, Florence (nee Midgley)
Passed peacefully away at the G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on Thursday, August 15, 2002, Florence Wilson, in her 82nd year, of Clarenville, formerly of Harbour Main and Liverpool, England. Left to mourn are her son, William; grandsons, Stuart and Graham; granddaughter, Sara; son, John (Cecilia); grandsons, John (Holly), Keith, Peter (Jennifer); granddaughters, Maria (Jeff), Sandra (Junior); great-grandchildren, Bradley and Brittany, and Tony Rodway. Also missed by her large circle of friends in Harbour Main and Clarenville and friends Jennifer, Nicole and Hillary, Ottawa.

MARTIN, Viola Blanche
Passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 25, 2001 surrounded by her children and family. Loving mother of Allen (Kim), Lisa Cavell and Heather (Bill) MacIntosh. Beloved  nan of Jonathan, Jodie, Sebastien, Tobias and Megan. Dear sister of Ernest, Ron, Heman, Amy, Elsie, Minnie, Ivy, Clayton, Phyllis, Hedley, Wilf, Linda, Betty, Rick, Nellie and the late Allen and Marjorie. Lovingly remem­bered by all her relatives and friends. Funeral service took place at Trull Funeral Home, Ontario on Wednesday, November 28, 2001. Cremation followed. Family and friends gathered at the United Church, Lady Cove, NL on Thursday, August 22, 2002 with interment following. Funeral service entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island

DONALD GEORGE LODGE
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden, untimely passing of this generous and compassionate man. Beloved  husband to Joyce (nee Shock); loving father to Donald and Murray and their respective wives, Pat and Agnes. Fun loving grandfather to Karen, Mark and Donroy. He is survived by innumerable family and friends who will deeply miss him. Don was the biggest kid of all of us. Don was born August 21, 1927 in Port Union, Newfoundland, Don always held his roots close to his heart. Currently, a resident of Chepstow, Ontario. His early years were spent at sea, followed by 28 years of service at Liquid Carbonic as a truck driver. Don loved life and touched the lives of many people in countless ways. He was always ready to lend a hand, a loyal friend and gentle soul. A funeral service celebrating Don's life was held at the Tanner and Pearson Funeral Home, Walkerton (1106 Yonge Street South, 519-881-1273) on Wednesday, August 21, 2002, Don's 75th birthday. visitation at 11 a.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
