FLIGHT, George
Passed away suddenly on March 29, 2002 due to a tragic highway accident, George Flight, age 45, of Shoal Harbour. Predeceased by his mom Alice (1996). Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories wife Nancy; three children Alicia, Melissa and Natasha; father Max Flight, Deep Bight; three sisters Linda Green (Tony), Deep Bight, Maxine King (Gord) St. Jones Within and Louise Kane (Tom), Stephenville; one brother Gary (Darlene), Deep Bight; and a large number of relatives and friends. Rested at United Church in Deep Bight from where the funeral took place on Sunday, March 31 with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

PHILPOTT, Albert John
Passed peacefully away on March 23, 2002, at his home in Plate Cove, Albert John Philpott, age 91. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Mary, eight sons Raymond, Ronald, Albert, Ignatious, Gerald, Gerard, Anthony and Adrian; four daughters Florence (Clarence Humby), Summerville, Gertrude (Bill White), Princeton, Dorothy, Plate Cove and Edna. Also, leaving to mourn 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a large number of relatives and friends. Funeral took place March 26, 2002, from St. Patrick's Parish, Plate Cove with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

BALSOM, Joan (58)
of Grande Prairie

On Tuesday, April 2, 2002, Joan Balsom, resident of Grande Prairie, formerly of Clarenville, Newfoundland, was promoted to glory at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital, Grande Prairie at the age of 58 years. Joan was born October 4, 1943 at St. John’s, Newfoundland. Joan was an active soldier of the Salvation Army Church, who gave many hours of volunteer work. She is lovingly remembered by her loving husband Alan of 34 years; her three children Cynthia (Chris) Kulchyski of Prince George, BC, Lisa (Mark) Day of Grande Prairie, AB and Stephen (Elaine) Balsom of St. John’s, NF; her seven grandchildren Parker, Luke, Mackenzie, Tyler, Dylan, Kia and Amber; twin sister Jean (Frank) Keats of Newfoundland; three brothers Frank (Deana) Rowe of Calgary, Ron (Donna) Rowe of Prince George and Alex (Hilda) Rowe of Newfoundland; numerous nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. Public visitation for family and friends was held at the Salvation Army Church, 9525-83 Avenue, Grande Prairie on Friday, April 5, 2002 from 7-8 p.m. Funeral service for the late Joan Balsom was held Saturday, April 6, 2002 at 1 p.m. from the Salvation Army Church, Grande Prairie with Captains Dale and Jo Sobool officiating. Interment followed in the Grovedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Joan’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice and would be greatly appreciated by the family.

CURRIE, Annie Passed peacefully away in her home on April 2, 2002 in Britannia, Random Island, Annie Currie, age 75. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Norman, one brother Art Sceviour (Ella), Burgoyne's Cove, two nieces, three nephews and a large circle of relatives and friends. Rested at Vardy's Funeral Home, Hickman's Harbour. Funeral took place on April 5 from the United Church, Britannia, with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

ROLLS, Bertram
Bertram Rolls
died Saturday, March 9, 2002 at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, New Jersey. He was 88. Born in Newman's Cove, Newfoundland, on May 31, 1913. He was the son of Mark Rolls and Kezia Rolls nee Skeffington. He was owner and operator of Bert's Dairy and Cheese Store for 15 years in Brooklyn, New York. He then retired to Port Richey, Florida and moved to Clinton, New Jersey seven years ago. His wife, Mary Jane Rolls nee Keats, preceded him in death in 1987, as did his sister, Pearl Hiscock nee Rolls in 1975. Re was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY. He is survived by his son Bertram G. Rolls of Clinton, New Jersey, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral service was held at Church of the Holy Spirit, interment was at Port Richey, Florida.

KING, Rod
Passed away unexpectedly at the Health Sciences Complex, St. John's on Saturday, March 30, 2002, Rod King of Shoal Harbour, aged 42 years. Predeceased by his father Aubrey King of Shoal Harbour. Left with fond and loving memories his son Jonathan of Clarenville; his mother Beulah; sisters Maxine Keenan (Charles) and Theresa Hubbard (Jarvis); brothers Wayne King (Philo) and Derrick King; special friend Louise Hancock and a large number of relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service held on Wednesday, April 3, 2002 from the Pentecostal Church, George's Brook with interment at the Interdenominational Cemetery, Clarenville. In his memory donations may be made to The Kidney Foundation or The Heart and Stroke Foundation.

HOLLOWAY, Wilson
Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Saturday, April 6, 2002, Wilson Holloway of Port Blandford, aged 83 years. Predeceased by his mother, father, three brothers and one sister. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Dulcie of 59 years; daughters Joan (Hubert Greening), Port Blandford, Marion (Ray McLaughin), Nanaimo, BC and Doris (Alonzo Holloway), Port Blandford; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and a large number of relatives and friends. Rested at United Church, Port Blandford. Funeral service held on Tuesday, April 9, 2002 from United Church, Port Blandford with interment at United Church Cemetery, Port Blandford. In his memory donations may be made to the upkeep of the United Church, Port Blandford. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville.

STANLEY, Stanslou
Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Saturday, April 6, 2002, Stanslou Stanley of Clarenville, aged 86 years. Predeceased by his wife Maggie, daughter Lorraine, brothers Gordon and Lawrence. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his daughter Cavelle (Eric), Clarenville; brother Edison, Clarenville; special cousin Annette Vardy, Clarenville; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and a large number of relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service held on Tuesday, April 9, 2002 from Memorial United Church, Clarenville with interment at United Cemetery, Clarenville. In his memory donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on Wednesday, April 10, 2002, Ralph John Butt, age 85, from Hickman's Harbour. He is predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Elizabeth; son, Lloyd; brothers, Moses, Allan, Samuel and Walter; and sister, Blanche. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 61 years, Louisa; four sons, William (Inez), Melvin (Alma), Newman and Calvin; one daughter, Irene (Wallace); 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Rested at Vardy's Funeral Home, Hickman's Harbour. Funeral took place on Friday, April 12 from the United Church, Hickman's Harbour with interment following.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember him.

Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on Saturday, April 6, 2002, Eli Hayter, age 90, from Trinity. He is predeceased by his parents, Jessie and William; step mother, Effie; infant daughter; brothers, Edward and Tom; and step brother, Alex. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Chatfield; three sons, Roger, Edward (Wanda) and George (Kim); three daughters, Cora (Dave), Lillian (AIf) and Gettina (Jerry); 13 grandchildren; sister, Mary Wilkin, Peterborough, Ontario; step sisters, Amy and Vickie Hayter, Brooklyn,NY;:sister in-law, Bernice Hayter, Gander; and a large number of nieces, cousins and friends. Rested at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Trinity from where the funeral took place on Tuesday, April 9, 2002. Interment followed at St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery, Trinity. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

Passed peacefully away at the G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital on April 10, Mary-Ann Stanley (Meam) of George's Brook in her 89th year. Predeceased by husband, Maxwell (1981). Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories one son, Alexander of Labrador City; one daughter, Madge (Leslie) Bailey of George's Brook; one brother, Ralph Adams (friend Doris Stanley), six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, 16 step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, plus a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rested at Blundon's Funeral Home, Shoal Harbour. Funeral service was officiated by Rev. Hannon on April 12 from United Church, Milton. Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery, Milton.

Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Tuesday, April 23, 2002, Gerald Mills, aged 77 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his nieces, Madonna (Gary); children, Samantha and Lucas; sister-in-law, Verlie Mills, with whom he resided, April, children, Travis and Jessica, Angela (Ron); children, Amanda and Amy, Cindy (Lloyd); children, Joey and Kate, Marlene (Al) and Lois (Rex); children, Tonya and Andrew; sister, Bernice Coleman, Ohio; brothers, Bill, England, Charles (Rose), Bishop's Falls and Tom, Petley; and a circle of family and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral services took place on Friday, April 26, 2002 at the United Church, Shoal Harbour with interment at the United Church Cemetery, Shoal Harbour. Donations in his memory may be made to the United Church in Shoal Harbour.
