KELSEY, ELIZABETH S. LIBBY LANG
Passed away at Carbonear Hospital on October 1, 2008 at age 71 after a courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by her husband, John Kelsey, parents, Clarence and Elsie Powell, brother, Clarence Powell, brother-in-law, Ross Montgomery and sisters-in-law, Beverly Powell, Rachael Aukland and Carrie Burden. Leaving to mourn a large circle of family and friends. Children, Chris Lang (Denise Holloway) and Steven Lang (Rosarii Power) of St. John’s, Mike Lang of thunder Bay, Joannah Lang (Gayle MacDonald) of Frederiction, Jennifer Land of Ottawa, grandchild, Krista Baker (Mike Nicolas) of Toronto, siblings, Bert (Paula) Powell, Marilyn Montgomery (Ralph Hiscock), and George Burden, step-children, Hazel Galvanis and Elizabeth Young. Also leaving to mourn special friends, Peg Spurrell, Garaldine Murphy, Anne Chafe and special family, Rebecca, Michael, Doris and Calvin Powell. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in her memory to a charity of one’s choice.

HEWLETT, DORIS BLANCHE
La Scie, NL

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Doris Blanche Hewlett, age 82, announce her passing at the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre in Baie Verte, NL on Wednesday, October 1, 2008. Predeceased by her husband – Clarence Hewlett; grandson – John Hewlett; parents – Fred & Harriet Morey; siblings – Cluney Morey, and Velma Noble (Leander); parents-in-law – John & Edith Hewlett; siblings-in-law – Ida Dicks (Pearce), Daisy King (Frank), Gladys Cuff (Walter), Eileen Wheeler, and Baxter Martin. Left with fond and loving memories are her children – Raymond Hewlett (Mavis), Moncton, NS, Terry Hewlett (Linda), Spruce Grove, AB, and Denise Hewlett (Ross Dicks), La Scie, NL; grandchildren – Darla Lewis (Todd), North Carolina, Nikolas Hewlett (Shelly), Spruce Grove, AB, and Brent Haas (Melissa), Winnipeg, MB; great-grandchildren – Sam Lewis, Nikita & Dakota Doole, Gage Anaguad, Chance & Sairyn Hewlett; special nieces & nephews – Chastity Andrews (Todd), Molly Andrews, Martin Andrews, Mallory Andrews, and Kelsa Winsor; sister-in-law – Neta Martin; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Majors Arley & Darlene Masters conducted the funeral service at The Salvation Army Citadel and Cemetery, La Scie, NL on Friday, October 3, 2008. Pallbearers were Edna Foster, Marguerite Morey, Judy Critch, Donna Gray, Excie King, and Margaret Burton. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Wimbleton’s Funeral Home, Baie Verte.

HAGGETT (nee WARD), FANNY
August 23, 1917 – October 3, 2008

It is with sadness that the families of the late Fanny Haggett announce her passing at the Central Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL on October 3, 2008, age 91 years. Predeceased by her husband, Thomas; sons, Harvey and Willis; brothers, Victor, Ernest, Jessie and Herbert. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are son, Arthur Haggett of Leading Tickles; daughters, Evelyn (Angus) Cooke of Fortune Harbour, Thrifty (William) Fitzpatrick of Fortune Harbour, Betty (Cecil) of Triton, Bernice (Richard) of Pinware, Louise (Kevin Budgell of Leading Tickles, Mae (Austin) Simms of Triton; brother, Alfred Ward (Bessie) of Pt. Leamington; sister, Louise Stuckless of Pt. Leamington; 33 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, a large circle of relatives and friends. Visitation took place Saturday, October 4, 2008 from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, October 5, 2008 from 7-9 p.m. from the Anglican Church, Leading Tickles. The funeral service took place Monday, October 6, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the Anglican Church in Leading Tickles, with Reverend David Coffin officiating. Pallbearers were Sheldon Simms (grandson), Allister Simms (grandson), Kevin Budgell (grandson), Angus Cooke (Grandson), Arthur Haggett (son), Paul Martin (friend). Donations may be made to the Anglican Church Building Fund. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor.

BURTON, MAMIE
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Mamie Burton announce her passing at her home in South Brook on October 5, 2008 at the age of 61. Mamie was a member of the Apostolic Faith. Mamie Burton retired from Home Care Services. Predeceased by her sister, Marie Morey and parents, Dulcie and Elias Burton. Left with fond and loving memories are her husband, Malcolm Burton; son, Martin Burton (Renee Gushue) of Grand Falls-Windsor and two daughters, Glenda Fowlow (Lemont) of South Brook and Gloria Hibbs (Derrick) of Robert’s Arm. Also leaving to mourn one grandchild, Monica Fowlow. Pastor Fred Randell conducted the funeral service at the Apostolic Faith Church in South Brook on October 8, 2008. Interment was at the Apostolic Faith Cemetery. Pallbearers were Martin Burton, Derrick Hibbs, Lemont Fowlow, Ted Burton, Hughie Burton and Matthew Pittman. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Ken Goodyear and Marilyn Stuckless of Central Funeral Homes.

CROUCHER, JERRY
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Jerry Croucher announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor on October 13, 2008 at the age of 74. Jerry retired from Bruce Warr Limited. Left with fond and loving memories are his wife, Blanche Croucher; son, Alonzo of Hay River, North West Territories; and daughters, Judy (Boyde) of Keswick, Ontario and Linda (Craig) of Ottawa, Ontario. Also leaving to mourn sisters, Linda and Olive; brothers, Jobe, Joe and Him; grandchildren, Michael, Joey, Nolan, Alana, Cameron, Melanie, Steven and great-grandchildren, Joshua and Justin. The funeral service was held at Central Funeral Homes in Springdale on Thursday, October 16, 2008. Interment was at the Salvation Army Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Ken Goodyear and Marilyn Stuckless of Central Funeral Homes.

BOWERS, PEARCE WILLIS
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Pearce Willis Bowers announce his passing at the Valley Vista Seniors Home in Springdale on October 15, 2008 at the age of 84. Pearce was a member of the Pentecostal Church Men’s Ministry in Springdale. Pearce retired from fishing. Predeceased by his wife, Phyllis; parents, John and Hannah Bowers and sister, Betty. Left with fond and loving memories are his son, Randy (Andrea) of Marathon, Ontario and daughters, Pauline (Jim) of Lewisporte, Diane (Don) of Blaketown and Tassie (Kevin) of Sparwood, British Columbia. Also leaving to mourn six grandchildren, Janet, Janelle, Russell, Craig, Don, Keith; sisters, Marie and Shirley and brothers, Ray, Elmo and Cyril. Pastor Lindsey Foster conducted the funeral service at the Pentecostal Church in Springdale on October 17, 2008. Interment was at the Pentecostal Cemetery. Pallbearers Cyril Bowers, Ray Bowers, Elmo Bowers, Alfred Milley, Dexter Edison and Jim Huxter. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Ken Goodyear and Marilyn Stuckless of Central Funeral Homes.

PELLEY, SHERMAN
Sherman was born on October 14, 1956 to Eric and Ella Maude Pelley of Little Burnt Bay. He was the third in a family of 13 children. Soon after graduation from Alice B. Garrigus Collegiate in St. Lunaire-Griquet, Sherman moved to Labrador City where he worked at Iron Ore Company of Canada for 10 years. There he met and married Wendy Austin on April 1, 1976. Sherman and Wendy were blessed with twin boys, Jamie and Jason on June 24, 1978. Sherman was the proud poppy to Austin, Kerstin, Jordy and Ethan. Sherman and his family moved back to the island in 1984 were he was employed as a vacuum cleaner salesman and shortly after in sales with Cohen’s Home Furnishing in Grand Falls-Windsor and St. Anthony. While employed in St. Anthony, Sherman was diagnosed with the disease scleroderma. Due to his illness he retired from Cohen’s in St. Anthony in 1994 and moved to Springdale where he lived till his passing. Sherman lived an exemplary life as a Christian and had a powerful influence on everyone he met. Sherman courageously fought the battle with scleroderma for 16 years. He passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Saviour at Health Sciences Center, St. John’s, on October 16, 2008 at 9:03 p.m. Predeceased by his mother-in-law, Rita and granddaughter, Tia. Sherman leaves to mourn his dedicated wife, Wendy; sons, Jamie (Mandy) and Jason (Tammy); grandchildren, Austin, Kerstin, Jordy and Ethan; Parents, Eric and Ella Maude Pelley; siblings, Fred (Lorraine), Sylvia (Wayne), Keith (Jane), Rick (Bonnie), Barry (Bonnie), Wendy (Rod), Graydon (Debbie), Glenda (Craig), Nola (Dennis), Sherry (Walter), Dawn (David), and Gregory; father-in-law, Neil Austin and a large circle of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, extended family and friends.

MERCER, HARVEY
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Harvey Maxwell Mercer announce his passing at the Valley Vista Seniors Home in Springdale on October 23, 2008 at the age of 81 years. Harvey Mercer was a member of the Springdale Pentecostal Church. Harvey Mercer retired from logging. Predeceased by parents, Gordon and Daisy Mercer; brothers, Lloyd and Alvin; sisters, Nellie and Ruby; brother-in-law, Reginald and nephew Tony. Left with fond and loving memories are his wife Pauline; five sons: Gregory (Lori) of Fort McMurray, Marvin (Greta) of Springdale, Wayne (Linda) of Fort McMurray, Peter (Suzanne) of Grand Prairie and Jason (Nancy) of Fort McMurray; and two daughters Suzanne (Glen Budgell) of Springdale and Carolyn (Todd Ball) of Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia. Also leaving to mourn nine grandchildren; brother Ralph (Phyllis); sisters Evelyn Martin (George) and Pansy Jewer (Lewis). Pastor Lindsey Foster conducted the funeral service at the Pentecostal Church in Springdale on October 28, 2008. Interment was at the Pentecostal Cemetery. Pallbearers were James Huxter, Cyril Goudie, Moody Hewlett, William Paddock, Cameron Young and Roy Normore. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Ken Goodyear and Marilyn Stuckless of Central Funeral Homes.

LUNDRIGAN, CALVIN JOHN
Baie Verte, NL

After a long and loving goodbye, Calvin John Lundrigan, age 64, slipped peacefully away into the arms of the angels at his home in Baie Verte on Thursday, October 23, 2008. Predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Marie (Fahey) Lundrigan. Left with fond and loving memories are his wife, Catherine (Kay); children, Karen Lundrigan (Richard Osmond), Maple Ridge, BC, Eugene Lundrigan (Tracey Remkes), Hong Kong, and Kathy Lundrigan (Kirk Miles), Langley, BC; Poppy’s angels, Reeghan, Kaelen and Zak Osmond, Jacob and Rebecca Lundrigan, Ryan and Kathryn Miles; siblings, Rose Tesla (George), Eileen Burden (Jim), Phyllis Keenie (Danny), Gladys Lundrigan and Gary Lundrigan (Lynn Goodyear); siblings-in-law, James J. Pittman and Carmel McKenzie; many nieces and nephews, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Joseph Tebsis conducted the Funeral Mass at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church and Cemetery, Baie Verte, NL on Wednesday, November 19, 2008. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Wimbleton’s Funeral Home, Baie Verte.

VOKEY, LENA BLANCHE
Formerly of Burlington, NL

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lena Blanche Vokey, age 91, announce her passing at the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre in Baie Verte, NL on Thursday, October 23, 2008. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Ernest Vokey; son-in-law, Hugh Dawson; parents, Joseph and Julia Bartlett; siblings, Timothy Bartlett, George Bartlett, Wesley Bartlett (May), Rowena Hibbs (Jim), and Sophie Bartlett; parents-in-law, Jonathan and Elizabeth Vokey; siblings-in-law, Harvey Winsor, Walter Vokey, Alex Vokey, and Stafford Vokey. Left with fond and loving memories are her children, Pearl Dawson, Seal Cove, NL, and Tony Vokey (Betty), Stephenville, NL; grandchildren, Amy Dawson (Keith Parsons), Nada Rideout (Kerry), Myra Dawson, Cynthia Vokey, and Chad Vokey (Chrissie); great-grandchildren, Nicole Dawson and Kaelan Rideout; also leaving to mourn sister, Evelyn Winsor; sister-in-law, Joyce Rideout; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. George Stockley conducted the funeral service at Riverside United Church, Burlington, NL on Sunday, October 26, 2008. Interment followed from Bethany United Cemetery, Baie Verte. Pallbearers were Eric Robinson, Nelson Vokey, Howard Burton, Howard Roberts, Gordon Parsons, and Wesley Hibbs. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Wimbleton’s Funeral Home, Baie Verte.

WINSOR, GORDON
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gordon Winsor of Triton announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Hospital in Grand Falls-Windsor on October 24, 2008 at the age of 79. Gordon was a member of the Maranatha Pentecostal Church in Triton. In his early adult years he worked in logging camps at a time when you had to walk from Roberts Arm to the logging camps on Kippens Ridge and beyond. After about 10 years in the logging camps he decided to try his hand at fishing, a job at which he worked until he retired in 1993. In his later years Gordon would relate stories of his past to anyone who would lend an ear and he was a great source of information about the town of Triton and its people. Predeceased by his wife, Avis and son, Ricky. Left with fond and loving memories are his sons, Michael (Judy) of Triton, Cyril (Fern) of Triton, Joe (Lovejoy) of Triton, Wade (Nancy) of Triton, Brian (Jean) of Hinton, Alberta, Terry (Debbie) of Roberts Arm, Todd (Suzette) of St. John’s; daughters, Verna (David Pinksen) of Labrador City, Wavey (Lorne Noseworthy) of Brighton, Brenda of Labrador City, Wanda (Clarence Short) of Roberts Arm and Angela (Brian Hawkridge) of Oshawa, Ontario. Also leaving to mourn one sister, Bride Roberts, one brother, Scott (Evelyn), 30 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Pastor Elliot conducted the funeral service at the Pentecostal Church in Triton on October 27, 2008. Interment was at the Interfaith Cemetery. Pallbearers were his grandchildren, Jeremy Winsor, Darren Pinksen, Jamie Pinksen, Jonah Winsor, Cyril Noseworthy and Janice Noseworthy. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Ken Goodyear and Marilyn Stuckless of Central Funeral Homes.

GALE, RHODA DELILAH
Westport, NL

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Rhoda Delilah Gale, age 71, announce her passing at the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre in Baie Verte, NL on Friday, October 24, 2008. Predeceased by her parents, Theodore and Margaret Rice; daughter-in-law, Doreen Gale; siblings, Charlie Rice, Arthur Rice, Clarence Rice, Mary Hurley (Tom), Lydia Hurley (William), and Flossie Ricketts (Tom); parents-in-law, Walter and Jessie Gale and brothers-in-law, Harold Gale, Francis Hewlett, and Kevin Fagan. Left with fond and loving memories are her husband, Harry Gale, Westport, NL; children, Lloyd Gale (Bonnie), Esterhazy, SK, Jessie Cramm (Allan), Baie Verte, NL, Marion Robinson (Glendyn), Corner Brook, NL, Gary Gale, St. John’s, NL, and Beverly Gillingham (Kevin), Grande Prairie, AB; grandchildren, Craig Robinson, Kristy Robinson, Chad Robinson, Jordan Cramm, Carol-Ann Cramm, Sheldon Gale, Bradley Gale, Staci Gale, Kyle Lundrigan, Brent Gillingham, and Blake Gillingham. Pallbearers were Allan Cramm, Glendyn Robinson, Craig Robinson, Chad Robinson, Bradley Gale, and Kyle Lundrigan. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Wimbleton’s Funeral Home, Baie Verte.

COLBOURNE, VIVIAN
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Vivian Colbourne announce her passing on October 30, 2008 at the North Haven Manor in Lewisporte. Vivian is predeceased by her husband, Reuben and son, Roger. Left with fond and loving memories are sons, Junior (Sheila), Paul (Marilyn), and Wayne (Audrey); daughter, Cindy; daughter-in-law, Kathleen. Also leaving to mourn are brother, Albert Rowbottom, sisters, Neta Budgell and Jean Whitespell, 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, along with a large circle of relatives and friends. Pastor Gilbert Andrews conducted the funeral service at the Pentecostal Church in Lushes Bight on November 2, 2008. Interment was at the Pentecostal Cemetery in Lushes Bight. Pallbearers were Max Slade, Ford Parsons, Randy Short, Wade Oake, Eric Colbourne and Perry Colbourne. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Central Funeral Homes.
