Dad moved to Springdale as an infant and lived his entire life on the Wellman property. He married our mother, Annie in 1943 and they raised 13 children in our family home down the lane. He was a devoted family man leading us by example. He was treasured by us all. He was so proud to have lived to see 5 generations of his family. At the age of 11 he went fishing with his father. He later worked in the lumber industry for Warr's Ltd. until illness forced him to retire early. Dad loved the simple things of life, the outdoors and the sea. He liked to fish, hunt, trap, knit cast nets, tie knots. He grew potatoes, rhubarb, cooked like a chef, made jams and baked the best homemade bread in the world. He made excellent molasses buns and steamed puddings. He volunteered his cooking talents to the Legion & Men's Service Club. Dad was a quiet, gentle man of God with the heart of an angel and the soul of a saint. He was the guiding light for our lives. His wisdom and quiet dignity with which he accepted what life had to bring will live with us forever. Dad's place of peace was his cabin at Mansfield Cove where he spent countless days. He leaves behind a legacy of love, tolerance, kindness and respect. Dad lived the values of a Christian man and left his mark on all who came into contact with him. We will forever treasure his memory. Our lives were truly blessed because we were the ones chosen to call him "Dad".
