MANUEL (SIMMS), EDITH EMMA -
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Edith Emma (Simms) Manuel, CM, RN, announce her passing at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, NF on May 6, 2001 at the age of 91. Edith was a companion member of the Order of Canada reflecting her contribution to her community through her work as a Registered Nurse (Class of 1931, Englewood Hospital, New Jersey, USA) and as a member of her church and many community organizations. Predeceased by: parents Arthur and Flora Simms of Fogo; sisters Mabel Godwin and Julia Holman; and husband Roy Manuel of Twillingate and Springdale. Left with fond and loving memories are: sister Lora Torraville of Bramalea, ON; brother Frank (Marge) Simms of St. John's, NF; nieces - Elizabeth Newman (Don) of Alberta. Kathleen Rowe of Bramalea, ON, Jean Clarke (Roland) of Oshawa, ON, Gwen Penney (John Stevens) of Toronto, ON, Geraldine Silbey (Harold) of Pink Mountain, BC, Elaine Hill (Brian) of Bedford, NS, Doreen Chisholm (Darrell) of Lower Sackville, Edith Lamont (Paul) of Armdale, NS, Judy Holman of Vancouver, BC and Barbara Penner (Vic) of Terace, BC; nephews - Alfred (Eleanor) Manuel of Twillingate, NF, James (Marina) Manuel of Slave lake, AB, Eric (Grace) Vokey of Etibicoke, ON, John (Joan) Godwin of London ON, Frank (Hope) Holman of Middle Sackville, NS and John (Cathy) Holman of Lower Sackville, NS. Also leaving to mourn, Sheilah MacKinnon-Drover and family and a large circle of friends and Godchildren. The Reverend David Sissmore and The Most Reverend Stuart Payne conducted the funeral services at St. Luke's Anglican Church on May 9, 2001. Interment was at the United Church Cemetery, Springdale. Pallbearers were Masons - Leslie Bowers, Carl Gillard, Larry Moss, Job Parsons, Randy Pack and Bruce White. Contributions may be made in Edith's memory to the Janeway Children's Hospital or the Queen's College Foundation, c/0 Queen's College, 210 Prince Phillip Drive, St. John's, NF Room 3000, A1B 3R6.

NOBLE, LORENZO (LO) HERBERT -
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lorenzo (Lo) Herbert Noble, age 91, announce his passing at his family residence, Nipper's Hr. on Sunday, May 6, 2001. Mr. Noble had been a member of the Notre Dame Masonic Lodge, Springdale for 62 years. Predeceased by: his parents; brothers - Titus, George and Leslie; sister - Myrtis Peer and granddaughter - Tanya Noble. Left with fond and loving memories are: wife - Alma; son - Tony (Rosalind), Nipper's Hr.; daughter - Nancy Wright, Gander; grandchildren - Lisa Starkes (Larry), Natasha MacKey (Brent), Kip Noble, Melanie Noble, Nikki Wright, Nadine Wright and Erin Wright; great-grandchildren - Kirk and Kendra Starkes and Jade MacKey and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. Clara Barnes conducted the funeral service at Nipper's Hr United Church and Cemetery on Tuesday, May 8, 2001. Pallbearers were fellow masons - Larry Moss, Gerald Dalley, William French, Paul Bursey, Maurice Budgell, Raymond King and the apron bearer was Hardy Sparkes.

VINCENT, PLEMAN J.
Passed away May 17, 2001, peacefully, Pleman J. Vincent at the Valley Vista Senior Citizens Complex, Springdale. He was 85 years old. Predeceased by parents, George and Harriet Vincent; granddaughter, Cathy Vincent and son-in-law, Neil Winsor. Left to mourn are wife, Daisy; sons, Lloyd (Rita), Triton, NF and Clyde (Linda), Mount Pearl, NF; daughters, Nina, Triton, NF, Faye (Maxwell Tucker), Lower Sackville, NS, Ruby (Winston Green), Grand Falls-Windsor, NF and Josie (Frank Fudge), Brighton, NF. Also leaving to mourn sisters Dorothy Roberts and Naomi Budgell; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Capt. Robert and Dana Reid conducted the funeral service at the Salvation Army Citadel, Triton on Sunday, May 20, 2001. Interment was at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Triton. Pallbearers were grandsons, Trevor Green, Perry Winsor, Cory Vincent, Rodney Vincent, Justin Tucker and Lance Fudge.

SQUIRES, MATTHEW LLOYD -
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Matthew Lloyd Squires announce his passing at the CNRHC at Grand Falls-Windsor on May 8, 2001 at the age of five. Matthew was a member of the Pentecostal Church. Predeceased by his grandparents Harold and Susan Squires of Smith's Hr. Left with fond and loving memories are: Dad and Mom - Neil and Wanda Squires, and brother Richard, all of Springdale; Uncles Shawn Webber (Roxanne) of Beachside and Tom Squires (Sandy) of La Scie; Aunts Nancy Bowers (Terry) of Beachside, Jessie Penney (Joe) of Coffee Cove, Melvina Fifield (Fred) of Pilley's Island, June Hart (Clarence) of Pilley's Island, Marina Joseph (Tim) of Corner Brook, Zella LeDrew, Corner Brook and Louise Regular (Dean) of Ming's Bight. Also leaving to mourn: grandparents Lloyd and Margaret Webber of Beachside and great-grandmother Lucy Coombs of Little Bay. Pastor Willie Angell conducted the funeral service at the Bethel Pentecostal Tabernacle on May 10, 2001. Interment was at the Pentecostal Church Cemetery, Beachside. Pallbearers were Travis Webber, Richard Squires, Sheldon Young, Ryan Young and Jonathan Young.

SARGENT, BARBARA CYNTHIA (nee YOUNG)
Passed peacefully away, in the presence of her family at the Health Sciences Centre, Wednesday, May 16, 2001, Barbara Sargent, age 54. Predeceased by her parents Harvey and Sadie Young, Springdale. Leaving to mourn: her husband of 38 years, Jack; daughter Kim (Dwight Hoffman), Ontario; son Kent (Michelle), St. John's; grandchildren: Reed, Alex and Jennifer Lane; three sisters: Shirley and Doreen, Springdale and Sylvia, Grand Falls-Windsor; brother Otto, Little Harbour, Twillingate and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was celebrated by Father William Brown at the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Friday, May 18, 2001.

SHEPPARD, JESSICA KIMBERLY -
Passed away May 17, 2001, after a lengthy illness, Jessica Kimberly Sheppard at the Springdale Hospital. She was 2 years, 8 months old. Predeceased by her twin sister Jennifer Maxine Sheppard. Left to mourn are: parents Alfred and KImberly Sheppard; brother Kenneth and sister Yvonne, all of Sheppardville; grandparents Martin and Maxine Sheppard, Sheppardville and Albert and Alice Kelley of Robert's Arm. Also leaving to mourn a large number of uncles, aunts and extend family and friends. Rev. Dave Feltham conducted the funeral services at the Sheppardville United Church. Interment was at the interfaith Cemetery, Sheppardville. Pallbearers were Paul Sheppard, Terry Sheppard, Rocky Heath and Rodney Gray.

CROUCHER, HOWARD -
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Howard Croucher announce his passing at the Grand Falls-Windsor Hospital on May 19, 2001 at the age of 69. Mr. Croucher retired from the fishing industry. Predeceased by his parents, five brothers and one sister. Left with fond and loving memories are: wife Effie Croucher; sons Oswell Croucher (Karen) of Beaumont, Roy Croucher of Winnipeg, MB, Dennis Croucher of Beaumont, Stonewall Croucher (Katie Sacrey) of Beaumont and Jeff Croucher of Beaumont; daughters Anita Roberts (Levi) of Yellowknife, NWT and Marilyn Coish (Roland) of Robert's Arm. Also leaving to mourn: sisters Ivy Rowsell and Bronwen Hewlett; brother Lloyd Croucher; five grandsons - Travis Roberts, Shane Coish, Shawn Coish, Lance Croucher and Lee Croucher. Rev. Tucker conducted the funeral service at the United Church on May 22, 2001. Interment was at the United Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Clyde Croucher, Oswell Croucher, Stonewall Croucher, Jeff Croucher, Levi Roberts and Roland Coish.

ENGLAND, MATTHEW,
HARRY'S HR.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Matthew England announce his passing at the Valley Vista Seniors Home, Springdale on Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at the age of 91 years. He will be sadly missed by: brothers Pearce of Harry's Hr. and Warrick of Badger; sisters Mildred of Springdale and Juanita of Halifax. He will also be missed by a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his brothers Walter and Ernest and sisters Della and Pearl. Visitation took place from the Salvation Army Church, Harry's Hr. from where the funeral took place on Thursday, May 24, 2001 with Captain Spurrell officiating, Interment was at the Church Cemetery.

BREEN, JOHN PATRICK (JACK),
COACHMAN'S COVE

It is with great sadness that the family of the late John Patrick (Jack) Breen, age 62, announce his passing at the BVPHC on Thursday, May 24, 2001. Predeceased by his parents Patrick and Margaret Breen and brother Sylvester. Left with fond and loving memories are: wife Carmel; son Michael (Lisa Shea); daughter Peggy Breen; and grandchildren - Matthew and Justina, all of Coachman's Cove. Also leaving to mourn: brother - Cyril Breen, Coachman's Cove; sisters - Mary Walsh (Joe), Coachman's Cove, Anne Wiseman, New Brunswick, Rose Walsh (Alphonsus), Coachman's Cove, Patricia Lewis (Joseph), Labrador, Madeline Gourley (Garry), Ontario and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Edward Brophy conducted the funeral mass at Our lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church and Cemetery, Coachman's Cove on Saturday, May 26, 2001. Pallbearers were Sylvester Breen, Michael Breen, Rick Breen, Martin Breen, Jason Lewis, Marcus Walsh and the crossbearer was Peter Shea.

GILLINGHAM, EFFIE ALTHEA,
SEAL COVE

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Effie Althea Gillingham, age 69, announce her passing at the BVPHC on Friday, May 25, 2001. Predeceased by: her parents Walter and Annie Pinksen; daughter Marie and brother Eric Pinksen. Left with fond and loving memories are: husband - Joseph; sons - Edward (Donna), Kingston, ON, Gerald (Beverly), Albert (Leona), both of Tumbler Ridge, BC, Harvey (Christine), Grande Cache, AB and Ivan (Mildred), Grande Cache, AB; daughters - Althea Osbourne (George), Irene Gillingham both of Seal Cove, Sheila Pinksen (Steward), Fort MacMurray, AB and Eunice Gavin (Morris), Kitchener, ON. Also leaving to mourn: sister - Mildred Gavin (Alex), Seal Cove; brothers - Lionel Pinksen (Doris), St Lawrence, Wallace Pinksen (Linda), Baie Verte and Ford Pinksen (Viola), Fort MacMurray, AB; 20 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. Sidney Payne conducted the funeral service at St. Swithin's Anglican Church and Cemetery, Seal Cove on Monday, May 28, 2001. Pallbearers were Gordon Parsons, Rennie Osbourne, Perry Osbourne, Harold Fudge, Allan Rice and Eric Pennell.

ANDREWS, SAMUEL JAMES,
LA SCIE

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Samuel James Andrews, age 89, announce his passing at his family residence in La Scie on Saturday, May 26, 2001. Mr. Andrews served in the Royal Navy in WWII and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He later worked at National Sea Products, La Scie from where he retired in 1978. Predeceased by: parents - Robert and Bertha Andrews; brothers - Pearce, Bruce and William George; sisters - Mabel Bishop, Mary Guy, Flora Mitchell, Blanche Andrews and Minnie Yates and grandchildren - Farrah Andrews and baby Andrews. Left with fond and loving memories are: wife Pheobe; son - Gerald (Tassie), La Scie; daughters - Dorothy Gale (Garland), Elliot Lake, ON and Rowena Andrews, La Scie. Also leaving to mourn: sister Elsie Curtis (Jesse), Springdale; brothers Stewart (Patience) and Ross (Daisy); grandchildren - Gina Quinn (Marc), Jamie Gale and Cheyenne Andrews; great-grandchildren - Courtney, Jared and Matthew Quinn and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. George Kean conducted the funeral service at the Zion United Church and Cemetery, La Scie on Tuesday, May 29, 2001. Pallbearers were Eric Andrews, Harvey H. Burton, David Andrews, Ted Morey, Jim Andrews and George Gray.

BUTT, BENNETT ARTHUR CHESLEY,
SPRINGDALE

It is with great sadness that the family of Bennett Arthur Chesley Butt announce his passing at the Valley Vista Seniors Complex on Sunday, May 27, 2001, at the age of 86. Mr. Butt was predeceased by: wife Katie; daughters Sadie and Geraldine; son Gerald; son-in-law Lloyd Edison; grandson Dwight and great-grandson Jake. Left with fond and loving memories are: sons Maybin (Jean), Bruce (Betty) and Wayne (Maisie); daughters Shirley, Sylvia (Dexter Edison) and Sheila, all of Springdale. Also left to mourn are 21 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Pastor Rideout conducted the funeral service at the Springdale Pentecostal Church on May 29, 2001. Interment was at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Springdale. Pallbearers were grandsons Jim Butt, Dwayne Butt, Tony Butt, Bradley Butt, Brian Edison and David Edison.

RYAN, JEFFREY GLENN,
LA SCIE

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Jeffrey Glenn Ryan, age 31, announce his tragic passing at La Scie on Monday, May 28, 2001. Left to cherish their fond and loving memories are: wife Janice; parents - George and Neta Ryan; brothers - Gregory (Paula), Jermy (Patsy) and Derrick; parents-in-law - Clyde and Lucy Bath, all of La Scie; sister-in-law Joanne Bath, St. John's; grandfather - Harrison Simms (Lily), King's Point; nieces - Lacey and Ashley; nephews - Logan and Jay; many aunts, uncles, cousins and a large circle of other relatives and special friends. Captains Scott and Michelle Rideout conducted the funeral service at the Salvation Army Citadel and Cemetery, la Scie on Friday, June 1, 2001. Pallbearers were Rex Ryan, Fred Ryan, Dwayne Ryan, Johnny Price, Craig Ward and Chris Bath.

SMITH'S HR.

Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Centre, St. John's, May 28, 2001, Marion Stella Elsie Small of Smith's Hr. She was 54 and a member of the United Church Women and the Baie Verte Peninsula Economic Development Association. She leaves to mourn: husband Roy; parents Joseph and Florence Penney; son Peter, Fort McMurray, AB and daughter Penny Becker (Aaron), Sechelt, BC. Also leaving to mourn: sisters Lillian Squires, Smith's Hr. and Nola Elliott, Fort McMurray; brothers Carl and Lloyd Penney of Smith's Hr.; one grandchild Keighley and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. Marilyn Avery, assisted by Pastor Mills, conducted the funeral service at Riverside United Church, Burlington on Tuesday, May 31, 2001. Interment was at Bayview United Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Brian Elliott, Sonny Noble, Scott Allen, Peter Goudie, Earl Perry and Clayton Dawe.

KENNEDY, JOSEPH J.
COACHMAN'S COVE

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Joseph J. Kennedy, age 73, announce his passing at the CNRHC on Thursday, May 30, 2001. Predeceased by: his parents, Nicholas and Margaret Kennedy; son, Fabian and sister, Gertrude. Left with fond and loving memories are: wife Mary; sons - Sylvester, Coachman's Cove and Patrick (Renee), Grand Prairie, AB; grandchildren - Craig, Emily, Hope, Faith and Dylan. Also leaving to mourn: brothers - Jack (Mary M.), Jim Nicholas (Theresa), all of Coachman's Cove and Frank (Myrtle), Toronto; sisters - Mary Lefrance, Toronto, Bess Bryan, Baie Verte, Stache Philpot (Wish Barrett), Fleur De Lys and Kit Power (Humphrey), Watson Lake and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Edward Brophy conducted the funeral service at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church and Cemetery, Coachman's Cove on Saturday, June 2, 2001. Pallbearers were Sylvester Breen, Ed Kennedy, Jeff Kennedy, Cletus Kennedy, Keith Kennedy and the crossbearer was Jamie Breen.

LEDREW, LEMUEL -
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lemuel A. LeDrew announce his passing at the Valley Vista in Springdale on May 31, 2001 at the age of 75 years. Lemuel retired from Change islands and was a member of the United Church. He was predeceased by father, Phillip and mother, Elizabeth LeDrew. Left with fond and loving memories are: wife Winnie and foster sister Betty Gidge. Major G. Butt conducted the funeral service at the Salvation Army on June 3, 2001 followed by interment at the Grace United Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Herber Frampton, Roy Moore, Walter Bursey, Jack Brinson, Eric Loder and Gordon Hollett.
