DOWNEY, MARK FRANCIS -
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Mark Francis Downey announce his passing on June 3, 2000 which occurred at his residence in Baie Verte. He was 61 years old. He was predeceased by: son - Noel John; parents - John Joe and Monica Downey; and sister - Bernice Kelly. Left with fond and loving memories are: wife - Clara, Baie Verte; son - Stephen (Lisa Greer); daughters - Lenora Santurbano (Frank), and Nicole Downey, and grand-daughter Morgan Greer, all of Prince Rupert, BC. Also leaving to mourn: brothers - John (Patricia), Baie Verte, Leonard (Barbara), Baie Verte, Ambrose (Ida) Roddickton, Ray (Judy), Kitimat, BC, Bill (Genny), Kitimat, BC, Mike (Tammy), Tumble Ridge, BC, David (Clara), Kitimat, BC, Ed (Barbara), Calgary, AB; sisters - Olive Breen (Edgar), Baie Verte, Ann Courtney (Stephen), Harbour Round, Mary Chambers (James), New Glasgow, NS, Cecilia Haberstock (Irwin), Kamloops, BC, Patricia Madieros (Manuel), Kitimat, BC and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Edward Brophy conducted the funeral mass at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, Baie Verte on June 6, 2000. Interment followed at St. Pius Roman Catholic Cemetery, Baie Verte.

PENNEY, SIDNEY DOVE -
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Sidney Dove Penney announce his passing at the Green Bay Health Centre, Springdale on June 10, 2000. He was 82 years old. He was predeceased by his parents - William and Katherine Penney. Left with fond and loving memories are: wife Cora; sons - Melvin, New Brunswick, Junior, Thunder Bay, ON, Cyril, Toronto, ON and Roger, Springdale; daughters - Violet Henstridge, Triton, Gloria Levor, St. Augustine, Florida, Netta McLeod, Toronto, ON and Cathy Kelly, Toronto, ON. Also leaving to mourn: sister - Netta Macinnes, Ontario; 21 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Pastor Vanzel Quinlan conducted the funeral service at the Apostolic Faith Church, South Brook on June 13, 2000. Interment followed at the Apostolic Cemetery, South Brook.

BURTON, HAYWARD LEWIS -
Passed away June 17, 2000 after a lengthy illness, Hayward Lewis Burton of Springdale. He was 84 years old. Predeceased by: son Harvey and daughters Marie and Deanna. Left to mourn are: sons Wilson (Bernetta) of Beaumont, Harold (Elsie) of Springdale, Roy (Ivy) of Englee and Lewis (Marion) of Sheppardville; daughters Joyce (Loderick) of Springdale, Joan of Springdale and Elsie (Mervin) of Springdale. Also leaving to mourn: sister Winnifred Oake of Beaumont; brothers Enos Burton of Springdale and Chesley Burton of Lushes Bight; 31 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Pastor Foster conducted the funeral service at the Pentecostal Church, Springdale on June 20, 2000. Interment was at the Cemetery on Grant Avenue.

HEWLETT, HARVEY JOSHUA -
Passed away at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Care Center on June 17, 2000, after a lengthy illness, Harvey Joshua Hewlett of South Brook. He was 77. Mr. Hewlett retired from mining at Churchill Falls in 1970 and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Predeceased by son Glenn and twin brothers Malcolm and Lloyd. Left to mourn are: wife Marjorie; sons - Gerald (Mag) of St. Patrick's, Herman (Chris) of Mission, BC, Neil (Doris) of Elliott Lake, ON and Lloyd (Marylin) of South Brook, NF; daughters Elsie (Walter Clarke) of Springdale and Paula of South Brook, NF. Also leaving to mourn are sisters - Olive, Nellie, Ivy and Elsie; brothers Ray and Hubert; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Pastor Harnum conducted the funeral service at the Pentecostal Church, South Brook on June 20, 2000. Interment was at the Pentecostal Cemetery.

STRONG (nee DROVER), MARJORIE ESTELLE -
Passed away June 24, 2000, peacefully Marjorie Estelle Strong (nee Drover) at the Springdale Hospital. Predeceased by her parents William and Minnie (Barbour) Drover; brothers - Ted, Harry, Howard, Gerald, Jack and her husband James M. Strong. Left to mourn are: sons Bill (Pansy) of Lewisporte, Ted (Lynda) of Moncton, NB. Haddon (Karen) of Chamberlains, Gerry (Shari) of Freshwater, C.B.; daughters Carolyn (Robin) of Ottawa, ON and Barbara (Dave) of Springdale. Also leaving to mourn: sisters - Olga Davis and Louise Strothard; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. Marion Davis conducted the funeral service Wednesday, June 28, 2000. Interment was at the United Church Cemetery, Little Bay.
