BOWERS, RITA (PEARL)
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Rita Pearl Bowers announce her passing at the Valley Vista Seniors Home in Springdale on June 1, 2009 at the age of 82. Pearl was a member of the Pentecostal Church. Predeceased by her husband, Samuel Bowers. Left with fond and loving memories are her son, Raymond (Melinda) of Springdale and daughter, Loretta (Harry) of Springdale. Also leaving to mourn are her sister, Alfreda Stone, grandchildren, Owen, Sherry and Jamie and great-grandchildren, Connor, Reed, Melvin, Vanessa, Jessica, Erica and Amber; friends, Janet Folkes, David Parsons, Venus Squires and Dorothy Pardy. Pastor Lindsey Foster conducted the funeral service at the Pentecostal Church in Springdale on June 5, 2009. Interment was at the Pentecostal Cemetery. Pallbearers were Owen Bowers, Ray Bowers, Robert Stone, Keith Tizzard, David Parsons and Jim Stone. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Ken Goodyear and Marilyn Stuckless of Central Funeral Homes.

HOBBS, GORDON
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gordon Chesley Hobbs announce his passing at the Green Bay Health Care Center in Springdale on June 1, 2009 at the age of 72. Gordon enjoyed woodworking, spending time in the outdoors and special visits from his grandchildren. Gordon retired from the Central Community College (Springdale campus) where he worked in maintenance and security. Prior to this time he worked as a carpenter and woodworker. Predeceased by father, James Hobbs; mother, Rosie Hobbs and sister, Marion Hancock. Left with fond and loving memories are his wife, Marie Hobbs; son, Lorne (Donna) of Springdale; daughters, Faye (David) of Springdale and Zonya (Randy) of Springdale. Also leaving to mourn brother, Hayward (Phalma) and grandchildren, Melanie, Mark, Jennifer (Gregory), Stephen, Chelsea and Victoria. Reverend Patricia Melindy conducted the funeral service at the Grace United Church in Springdale on Wednesday, June 3, 2009. Interment was at the United Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lorne Hobbs, Randy Regular, David Huxter, Melvin Greenham, Morris Greenham and Claude Greenham. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Ken Goodyear and Marilyn Stuckless of Central Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

PINKSEN, BLANCHE CHARITY
Seal Cove, NL

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Blanche Charity Pinksen, age 84, announce her passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL on Wednesday, June 3, 2009. Predeceased by her parents, George & Mary Banks; siblings - Emma Rice (Moses), Malcolm Banks (Elsie), and Annie Parsons (Gordon); father-in-law, Daniel Pinksen (Naomi); Frank's mother, Olive Pinksen; siblings-in-law, Leslie Osbourne, Lenora Sacrey (Garland), and Harold Foster. TAYLOR, CALVIN HAROLD
September 17, 1947-June 6, 2009

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Calvin Harold Taylor of Miles Cove, announce his sudden passing on June 6, 2009, at the age of 61. He was predeceased by parents, Harland and Daisy; sister, Marjorie, brother-in-law, Emilien, and sister-in-law, Grace. Left to mourn are, loving wife, Gloria, son, Leroy (Fort McMurray, AB), daughters, Pamela (Springdale) and Vanessa (Miles Cove), sisters, Jenetta, Olive, Rosie, Alma, Maisie, Leona, and Ada, brothers, Cyril, Clayton, Bruce, Ford, Dawson and Derrick as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Pastor Benjamin Brown conducted the funeral service on Wednesday June 10, 2009 from Miles Cove Pentecostal Church. Interment followed at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Miles Cove. Pallbearers were brothers, Clayton, Bruce, Ford, Dawson, Derrick and son, Leroy. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Gail Noel and Leander Hewlett of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale.

CARROLL, KATHLEEN
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Kathleen Bridget Carroll announce her passing at the Valley Vista Seniors Home in Springdale on June 6, 2009 at the age of 89. Kathleen was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Predeceased by her husband, Alphonsus and daughter, Ann McGuire. Left with fond and loving memories are her son, Joe (Anne) of St. Patrick's and daughters, Margaret of St. Catherine's, Ontario and Bride, also of St. Catherine's. Also leaving to mourn her grandchildren, Holly, Dennis, Gerald, Melanie, Suzanne, Michael, great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Father Eugene Morris conducted the funeral service at the Roman Catholic Parish in St. Patrick's on June 9, 2009. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery. HOBBS, MORRIS ANTHONY
May 4, 1961 - January 25, 2009

It is with great sadness, but yet a sense of comfort and closure, that the family of the late Morris Anthony Hobbs, age 47, announce the recovery of his remains at Southern Arm near Beachside, NL on Tuesday, June 16, 2009. Morris passed away along with his wife, Mildred Florence Hobbs, age 46, as a result of a snowmobile accident at Southern Arm, NL on Sunday, January 25, 2009. Predeceased by his wife - Mildred; and father-in-law - Leander Perry. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Samuel George Newbury announce his passing at the Central Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor on June 22, 2009 at the age of 88. Samuel Newbury was a member of the Salvation Army King's Point Corps. Samuel G. Newbury retired from Bowaters in 1986. Predeceased by his first wife, Tassie (Nee Short). Inurnment followed from the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Coachman's Cove. Urnbearers were Ambrose Philpott, Denise Philpott, Tim Philpott, and Ron Philpott and the crossbearer was Roger Philpott. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Wimbleton's Funeral Home, Baie Verte.

HILLIARD, GEORGE (PASTOR)
Passed away at the Green Bay Health Centre, Springdale on June 29, 2009, Pastor George Hilliard of South Brook. He was 53 years of age. He was a pastor with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Newfoundland and Labrador. Predeceased by his parents, George and Phoebe Hilliard; parents-in-law, Cyril and Lillian Antle. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Diane; son, Jonathan (Amy); daughters, Breanna, Isabelle (Dan) and two grandchildren, Noah and Mia Ketcheson. Also leaving to mourn are his siblings, Lizzie (Elizabeth) Carter, Robert (Bernice), Dorothy Anderson, Gertie (Joseph) Anderson, Marg (Cecil) Hale, Charlie (Frances) and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Pastor Jeffrey Elliott conducted funeral services at the Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle, Bishop's Falls, Thursday, July 2, 2009. Interment was at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Sunset Drive, Bishop's Falls. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Homes, Bishop's Falls. Pallbearers were Bob Hilliard, Charlie Hilliard, Fred Bowers, Reg Fowlow, Alvin Gillingham and Tom Tibbo.

WISEMAN, RUPERT
Wiseman, Rupert
, 88, of Springdale, NL, passed away peacefully at home on June 30, 2009. Born on Little Bay Island on October 29, 1920, he was the son of Fred Wiseman and Winnie (Parsons) Wiseman. He graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Nova Scotia Technical College in the late 1930s and then went on to enjoy an illustrious 40-year career as a mining engineer. A past president of the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL), Rupe worked for the Newfoundland Government, Sysco Gold Mines, and Newfoundland Fluorspar (Alcan). He joined Alcan's head office in Montreal as a director before he retired in 1976. The Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy recognized his contributions to the mining industry with an honorary membership and District Distinguished Service Award in 1989. In 2008, he received an Engineers Canada Fellowship from PEGNL. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was also known for completing topographical maps of the Green Bay area of northwestern Newfoundland. Predeceased by his son, Ian, Rupe is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Taylor) Wiseman; his devoted daughters, Barbara and Gail; and grandchildren Erik, Linnaea, Evelyn, Brad, and Lisa. A memorial service will be held at Grace United Church, Main Street, Springdale, at 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2009. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.

BUTT, GORDON
May 10, 1958 - June 30, 2009

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gordon Butt of Springdale, announce his sudden passing on June 30, 2009, at the age of 51. Gordon was an honorary firefighter with the Springdale Fire Department and had retired from AG&L Construction. He was predeceased by parents, Charles and Jessie; sister, Verna; father-in-law, Rev. Abraham Downey and nephew, Jeremy. Left to mourn are loving wife, Lorinda; daughters, Vanessa (Gordon) Janes, Pasadena, NL, and Aileen (Jamie) Hopkins, Paradise, NL; sisters, Joan (Claude), Evelyn (Greg), Marilyn (Brian), Donna (Lorne), Glenda (Eric), Brenda (Elmo), Beverly (Dennis), Audra (Perry); brothers, Ivan (Verna), Wayne (Brenda), Andre (Tina); three grandchildren, Jayla, Caleb and Wyatt; mother-in-law, Marguerite Downey; sisters-in-law, Christine (Jerry), Millicent (Lou); brothers-in-law, Doug (Millie), Lawrence (Helen), Ron (Bonnie, nephews and nieces, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. Patricia Melindy conducted the funeral service on Friday, July 3, 2009 from Grace United Church with interment following at the Grace United Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were brothers Andre, Wayne, Ivan, sons-in-law Jamie and Gordon, and friend Keith Clarke. Honorary pallbearers were brothers-in-law, Jerry Hicks and Lawrence Downey. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Gail Noel and Leander Hewlett of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale.

SHEPPARD, LEANDER GILBERT
October 8, 1924 - June 30, 2009

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Leander Sheppard of Sheppardville, announce his sudden passing on June 30, 2009, at the age of 84. Since moving to Birchy Ridge in 1964, he and his wife Lucille have been faithful members of Springdale Pentecostal Church. Together they raised 16 children. Predeceased by parents, Robert and Carrie; brothers, Allan and Hutley; sister, Elsie; daughter-in-law, Julia. Left with fond and loving memories are loving wife, Lucille; sons, Calvin, Edward (Denise), Nelson (Lorraine), Lloyd (Loretta), Eugene (Marcia), Gilbert, Theodore (Ophelia), Donald (Brenda), Dennis (Rose), Eric (Judy), Bruce (Michelle), Hayward (Kelly), Norman (Rose); daughters, Daphne (Reginald), Ethel (Allan), Angela (Perry); 32 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; brothers, Lewis, Martin; sisters, Marjorie, Gloria, Jean, as well as a very large circle of relatives and friends. Pastor Howard Head, assisted by Rev. Jerry Weir and Pastor David Collins, conducted the funeral service from Springdale Pentecostal Church. Interment was at the Sheppardville Community Cemetery. The thirteen sons assisted as pallbearers. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Gail Noel and Leander Hewlett of Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale.
