1951-2011
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Hazel Newman announce
her passing at the Green Bay Health Center in Springdale on December
5, 2011 at the age of 60. Predeceased by parents, Newton & Evangeline.
Left with fond and loving memories are her husband Ford; son Fred (Chelsea) of
Long Beach, NL; and daughter Evangeline (Claude King) of Lloydminister, SK. Also
Leaving to mourn brothers - Hayward (Melvina) of Long Island, Raymond (Gladys)
of Nova Scotia, Wilson (Pearl) of Long Island, Gloss (Janet) of Nova Scotia;
sisters - Effie Short of Long Island and Josie (Wilburn Bromley) of Long

LOCKE, LUCY JANE
1924-2011
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lucy Jane
Locke announce her passing at the Central Nfld. Hospital in
Grand Falls on December 10, 2011 at the age of 87.
Lucy was a member of the Salvation Army Church, Little Bay Islands
for years until she moved to Springdale a few years ago. Predeceased
by mother, father and daughter Leone Oxford. Left with fond and loving
memories are her husband Reuben; son Larry (Muriel) of Little Bay Islands
and daughter Joan (Wilson) of Robert's Arm. Also leaving to mourn sister
Betty (Harvey) Moyles of Lewisporte; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Major Lindsay Oxford conducted the funeral service from the Salvation
Army Citadel in Little Bay Islands on December 14, 2011. Interment
was at the Interfaith Cemetery. Pallbearers were Larry Locke, Cyril
Oxford, Allison Locke, Gordon King, Wilson Sheppard and Steve Young.

PADDOCK, ROY
It is with sadness that the family of the late Roy Paddock announces
his passing on December 15, 2011. He was born November
3, 1939 to Marmion and Marjorie Paddock, Robert's Arm. He married
June Payne on April 28, 1964 and together they raised four children
Neil, Dale, Elaine and Amy. Robert's Arm remained home for the
rest of his life, even while he worked away to support his family.
He worked in different industries throughout his life - mining,
carpentry, logging - and then later in his life he worked as
a fishing guide. He loved to hunt, fish, and grow vegetables. He always
kept busy. Roy Paddock was known for his quiet demeanour, humble sense
of humour and down to earth attitude. He will be missed. He was predeceased
by his father Marmion and sister, Flossie. He leaves to mourn mother
Marjorie, wife June, sons Neil (Michella), AB, Dale (Donna), NB; daughters
Elaine (David Quinn), AB, Amy, AB; sisters Alfreda Campbell & Sandra
Fudge; six grandchildren, 1 great grandchild. Rev. Bill Matchem conducted
the funeral service on Sunday, December 18, 2011 from the United Church,
Robert's Arm with interment following at the United Church Cemetery.

Young announce her passing at the Springdale Hospital in Springdale

member of the Springdale Pentecostal Church. Predeceased by her father

LUSH, JOSEPH
It is with sadness that the family of the late Joseph Lush announces
his passing on December 17, 2011. He was born on February
10, 1929 to James & Susanna Lush. As a young man he worked as
a logger and fisherman; later he worked with the Dept. of Highways
until his retirement in 1988. In 1962 he married Linda Burton and together
they raised seven daughters. Besides his parents, he was predeceased
by brothers William & Albert; sisters Lulu & Dulcy. He leaves
to mourn wife Linda, daughters Viola (Ivan), Jean (Brian), Peggy (Troy),
Christine (Sheldon), Cindy (Keith), Amy (Paul), Natasha (Jamie); 11
grandchildren; one great grandchild; sister Rowena Henstridge; brother
William Rodgers. Major Larry Fudge conducted the funeral service on
December 22, 2011 from the Salvation Army Triton, with interment following
at Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons Jamie & Jody

ROBERTS, VERA
It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Vera
Roberts of Triton, on Wednesday, December 21, 2011. She
was born to Pearce & Celia Vincent July 17, 1931 and married Eric
Roberts on Dec. 3, 1948. Together they had 10 children. Vera loved
many things in life - having people visit, going for a ride with
Eric, attending church, but her love for God and her family was paramount.
She will be missed. She was predeceased by infant daughter Joan, parents
Pearce & Celia, brother Garland. She leaves with loving memories
husband Eric, sons Everett (Nellie), Donald (Bonnie), Wayne (Margaret),
Clayton (Beryl), Paul (Margaret), Tom (Bonnie), Christopher (Wanda),;
daughters Patricia (Edward), Nola (Gloria); sisters Lillian Tucker,
Ethel Hobbs, Frances Roberts; brother David (Rhoda); sister-in-law
Joyce Vincent; 25 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; one great-great
grandson. The funeral service was conducted from the church on Saturday,
December 24, 2011 with Pastor Jeffrey Elliott officiating. Interment

HEWLETT, TONY
With the same dignity and gentleness with which he lived his life, Nelson
Tony Hewlett, peacefully passed into the Lord's care, December
22, 2011. Born October 14, 1953 at home in South Brook, Newfoundland.
Tony spent his childhood growing, always learning, and playing by his
seaside. Remaining to forever treasure his memory, are his loved ones,
wife Colleen, children, James Pollard (Karen), Kelly Pollard-Blab (Guy),
Mandy Hewlett (Jeremiah), Amy Hewlett and Nelson Andrew Hewlett, grandchildren:
Kirsten, Brendan, Josee, Jaco and Robbie as well as nieces, nephews,
aunts, uncles, and cousins. Tony was pre-deceased by his parents, Nelson
Levi and Isabella Hewlett, infant brother Kenneth, sister Catherine,
and step grandson Joshua Blab. After completing high school at Grant
Collegiate in Springdale, Nfld, Tony attended college taking fine arts,
followed by trade school, receiving a journeyman certificate in carpentry.
He moved to Ignace Ontario in 1984 where he found work and established
a loving home for his "whole" family. Tony enjoyed
so much in his life, playing with his high school band, or his rock
band, a variety of art projects, restoration of classic cars and trucks,
travelling, building, playing with the grandkids, fellowship with friends
and co-workers and so much more. A celebration service was held on
Friday December 30th, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Ignace Gospel Church
(New Life) with Pastors Sheldon Reid and Calvin Young officiating.
Interment followed in the Ignace Cemetery. Visitation took place Thursday,
December 29th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Ignace Gospel Church.
In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Tony may be made to the Pentecostal
Assembly of Canada-Aboriginal Ministries-Western District, or Bridges
for Peace Canada through the Stevens Funeral Homes, P.O. Box 412, Dryden

September 25, 1925 - December 24, 2011
It is with sadness that the families of the late Stanley P.
Roberts announce his passing at the Valley Vista Seniors Home,
Springdale, NL at the age of 86 years. Stanley is predeceased by his
first wife, Rita; parents, Herbert and Lavenia Roberts; brother, Donald;
and sister, Greta Roberts. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories
are his wife Melina; daughters, Ida (Claude) Parsons, Rose (Carl) Ryan,
Winnie (Ernie) Winsor, Stella (Gus) Weir, Denise (Glen) Guthro; sons,

from The Salvation Army Citadel with Major Larry Fudge officiating.

FIFIELD, BERNETTA
Passed away tragically as the result of a house fire on Christmas
Day, 2011. Melvina & Bernetta Fifield of
Pilley's Island. Bernetta was born on November 29, 1982 and graduated
from Dorset Collegiate in 2001. She was involved in Brownies, Girl
Guides, Youth Group, Sunday School, Junior Soldiers, Corps Cadets and
Home League. She was enrolled as a Senior Soldier in the Pilley's
Island Salvation Army Corps in March 1997. Bernetta was very happy
about the new life she was starting with Kevin Sheppard of Lewisporte.
She was predeceased by her father Fred. She leaves to mourn brothers
Brian (Wavey), Lloyd; nephew Jake & niece Sarah; and a large circle
of other relatives and friends. The combined funeral service was conducted
from the Salvation Army, Pilley's Island on Sunday, January 1,
2012 with Majors Randell and Youden officiating. Interment followed
at the Salvation Army cemetery. Pallbearers were Todd Fifield, Richard
Squires, Matthew Pittman, Richard Roberts, Wycliffe Boyd, Max Pittman,

FIFIELD, MELVINA
Passed away tragically as the result of a house fire on Christmas
Day, 2011. Melvina & Bernetta Fifield,
of Pilley's Island. Melvina was born to Harold & Susan Squires
of Smith's Harbour and later married Fred Fifield of Pilley's
Island on January 29, 1968. They made their home and raised their family
in Bumble Bee Bight. Melvina was an excellent cook, enjoyed creating
plastic canvas items and attending Home League. She was enrolled as
a Senior Soldier in the Salvation Army Corps on Easter Sunday 1996.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by husband Fred, and sister
Ettie. She leaves to mourn sons Brian (Wavey), Lloyd; sisters Jessie,
June (Clarence), Marina (Tim), Zella (Brian), Louise (Dean); brothers
Neil (Wanda), Tom (Sandra); two grandchildren Jake & Sarah; and
a large circle of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. The combined
funeral service was conducted from the Salvation Army, Pilley's
Island on Sunday, January 1, 2012 with Majors Randell and Youden officiating.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ella May
Oake announce her passing at the Valley Vista Seniors Home
in Springdale on December 27, 2011 at the age of 92.
Ella was a member of the Salvation Army. Left with fond and loving
memories are her husband of 75 years, David; sons - Wilbert of
Beaumont and Claude (Hope) of Robert's Arm and daughter Mavis
Tizzard of Springdale. Also leaving to mourn sister Beulah (Reg), 10
grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, as well as a large circle of
other relatives and friends. Major Lindsay Oxford and Majors Marvin
and Vera Youden conducted the funeral service from the Salvation Army
Citadel in Beaumont on December 30, 2011 @ 1 p.m. Interment was at
the Salvation Army Cemetery. Pallbearers were Wilbert Oake (Son), Claude

Bromley (Grandson in Law) and Clyde Croucher (Friend). Funeral arrangements
