BILES, Maxwell Henry
Passed on: September 11th, 2015

Passed peacefully away after a short illness at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on September 11, 2015, Maxwell Henry Biles of St. Anthony in his 90th year. Max was a fisherman and carpenter before his retirement. He was a member of the choir at St. Anthony United Church for 50 years, a member of the church's board of session and a long-time member of the Loyal Orange Lodge. Max loved his family and his church, building model boats, hunting, salmon fishing, picking berries, playing cards, reading, watching boxing, hockey and wrestling. Max leaves to mourn his four daughters Joan Rumbolt, Eileen Reeves, Celeste Thompson-Vey (Bruce Vey) and Maxine Earle (Junior); grandchildren Curtis Rumbolt, Annette Rumbolt, Paulette (Allister) Russell, Jeanette (Dwight) Russell, Paul (Brenda) Reeves, Terry (Sherry) Reeves, Rodney (Susan) Thompson, Colin (Melissa) Thompson, Denise (Robin) Collier, Jennifer Earle and Justin Earle; great-grandchildren Marijke den Otter-Rumbolt, Terri (Allan) Healey, Kimberly Russell, Kelly Russell, Kassidy Russell, McKenzie Russell, Marc Russell, Julie (Terry) Wolfe, Jamie Reeves, Victoria Thompson, Miranda Thompson, Gabriel Thompson, Orianna Thompson, Reece Thompson, Christins Collier, Mya Collier and Teyla Collier; great-great-grandchildren Ava Rumbolt, Jayce Wolfe and Ethan Wolfe; brother-in-law Wilfred Boyd; sisters-in-law Lizzie Boyd and Flora Dean. Visitation took place at St. Anthony United Church from where the funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15 with Rev. Dinesh Gomes officiating. Burial followed in the United Cemetery in St. Anthony. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

CAINES, Cecil
Passed on: September 2nd, 2015

Passed away suddenly but peacefully on September 2, 2015, Mr. Cecil Caines of Bird Cove in his 56th year. Left to mourn but with cherished memories are his brothers Leo (Marjorie), Gord (Anita) Peter, Doug, and Ralph; sisters Cecilia (Mike), Effie (Mike), and Liz (Rodney); nieces and nephews Michelle, Craig, Dwayne, Gordie, Geoffrey and Stacey; as well as a large number of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. We will miss his presence. He was predeceased by his father, Peter Caines and mother, Johanna Caines. Visitation took place at Our Lady of Grace Church in Bird Cove from where the funeral mass was held on Monday Sept. 7 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Bosco officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre's Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

CAMPBELL, Mary
Passed on: September 17th, 2015

Passed away September 17, 2015 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, Mrs. Mary Campbell of Plum Point in her 69th year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children Louise, Bob, Peter, and Shianne; grandchildren Courtney, Charlie, Roman, Drew, Tapanga, Shauna, Josh, Andrew, Christie, and Hunter; great-grandchildren Jaden, Brooklyn, Deacon, and Isabella; sisters Mable, Rosie, and Daphene; brothers Gorvin, Garf, Jock, John, and their families as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Isaac and Beatrice Stevens, her sister Sarah Fanny, and brother Arch. Cremation has taken place. Visitation took place at Saint Mark's Anglican Church in Savage Cove from where the funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 21 with Rev. Omar Reyes officiating. Inurnment followed in the Anglican Cemetery in Savage Cove. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

ELLIOTT, Samuel Sr.

Samuel Elliott Sr
. of Port au Choix was born July 9th, 1934 to Gordon and Mae (Bessey) Elliott of Raleigh. He grew up in Raleigh with his sister and seven brothers until he came to Port au Choix looking for the woman of his dreams. He found her and they got married Nov. 30, 1963. They made a home and raised their two sons and two daughters in Port au Choix. He worked at FPI for 36 years, most of them as a watchman where he fed many of his co-workers from the electric frying pan. He was a dedicated family man who provided for his family with kindness and patience and was well respected by many as they considered him "the gentle giant". He deeply loved a game of cards, especially if he was winning! Through all his sickness he always kept a positive attitude but despite his four year fight against the dreadful disease he passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2015. He is survived by his wife Christine of nearly 52 years; his sons Sam (Jr), and Kevin (Sherry-Lynn); his daughters Melita (Bob), and Mae (Vince); his six grandchildren, Joshua, Allyson, Wyatt, Kaitlin, Skyler and Chayce; sister Vida (Ross); brothers Reginald (Irene), Weldon (Alma), Garland (Pansy), Max (Judy), Winston (Cindy) and Alvin (Yvonne). He was predeceased by his father Gordon, mother Mae, sister Selma and brother Wayne. Visitation was held at the Roman Catholic Church in Port au Choix from where the funeral mass took place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17 with Fr. Raj officiating. Burial followed the service in the Sandy Cove Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

ELMS, Lewis Reginald
Passed on: September 5th, 2015

Passed peacefully away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on the 5th day of September 2015, Mr. Lewis Reginald Elms of St. Lunaire-Griquet in his 90th year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Jessie; daughters Joan (Art), Jean (Barry), and Dawn (Ron); grandchildren Stefan (Dixie-Lee) and Kayla (Devon), as well as a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Luke and Bertha Elms, four brothers and his four sisters. Visitation took place at the All Saints Anglican Church in Dark Tickle from where the funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, with Rev. Harold Harvey and lay readers Alf and Maude Larkin officiating. Interment followed in the Anglican Cemetery in Dark Tickle. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

FLYNN, Clifford
Born: March 28th, 1935

Clifford Flynn
was born March 28, 1935 in Forteau Labrador. He married Sophia Una Chambers on October 20, 1957 and together they raised their two daughters in Blue Cove. He worked as the lighthouse keeper on Belle Island for 35 years. Mr. Clifford Flynn of Blue Cove passed peacefully away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on the 3rd day of September 2015 in his 80th year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 57 years Sophia Una (Chambers) Flynn; his children Daisy (Vaughan), and Samantha (Lyndon); grandchildren Avery Cunard, and Joshua Cunard; brothers Clarance (Harriett), William (Louisa), and Eric (Clara); sisters Una (Lloyd), and Phyllis (Kenneth); sisters-in-law Mary and Sue as well as a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his father Edward Flynn, mother Pearl Flynn, and his brothers Robert and Almond. Visitation took place at the Church of Advent in Plum Point from where the funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 7, with Rev. Harold Harvey officiating. Burial followed in the Anglican Cemetery in Pond Cove. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

LAWLESS, Michael John
Passed on: September 14th, 2015

Passed away peacefully at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on the 14th day of September 2015, Mr. Michael John Lawless of Flowers Cove in his 75th year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Rosie Lawless; children Kevin (Michelle), Robert Jock (Myrtle), Michael Jr. (Karen), Perry (Sandee), Patty (John), and Kelly; grandchildren Scott, Randy, Robyn, Alyx, Mackenzie, Tori, Trisha, Evan, Ava and Piper; great-grandchildren Rebecca, Logan, and Sophia and sister Christine Richards (Roy) as well as a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his mother Harriet Carnell (nee Lawless), and his stepfather Roy Carnell. Visitation took place at the Our Lady of the Snow Roman Catholic Church in Flowers Cove from where the funeral mass was held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17 with Fr. Bosco officiating. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Nameless Cove. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

PARSONS, Alwood Andrew (George)

Alwood Andrew (George) Parsons
of Roddickton was born at St. Anthony to Jessie and Annie Parsons January 21st, 1950. Also born to that family were Rueben (deceased), Martha (deceased), Ross (deceased), Robert, Gladys, and Albert. Albert is twin brother to Alwood. Alwood grew up in Roddickton where he graduated high school. He was joined in marriage to Celie Randell on July 24, 1973. To this union was born two children, Deanne and Shane. Alwood was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He took on many different types of employment including lumber grader with Canada Bay Lumber Co., forestry worker and a teacher. He fished with his brothers, Robert and Albert for approximately 35 years. He was also a fireman for 25 years. He was a boat builder, carpenter, sports fan, Red Wings fan, dart player, and a cook extraordinaire! Alwood was taken from this life tragically on the 21st of September, 2015 in his 65th year. He will be greatly missed by his wife Celie Parsons; children Deanne (Shane), and Shane (Nathalie); mother-in-law Lily; brothers Robert (Harriet), and Albert (Lavinia); sister Gladys (Eric); granddaughters Alexis, and Shelby, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Visitation took place at the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton from where the funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27 with Rev. Christopher Hewlett officiating. Burial followed in the New Apostolic Faith Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

WHALEN, Olga
Passed on: September 25th, 2015

Passed away peacefully on September 29, 2015 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, Olga Whalen of Flowers Cove in her 64th year. Olga was a kind person with a big heart and she enjoyed to the fullest cooking for her family and spending time with her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Left to mourn with loving memories her husband Roland; children Roland Jr. and Brenda; sister Rachel Applin; brother Stanley Coates; sisters-in-law Amy and Marina Coates; grandchildren Cameron, Colby, John Ryan and Jemima Rae; son-in-law Ward Genge; daughter-in-law Melanie Whalen; family friend Emily Whalen and a large circle of other family and friends. She was predeceased by her mother Emily Coates, father John Thomas Coates, brothers Stedman Coates, John Coates and Curtis Coates. Visitation took place at St. Barnabas Church in Flowers Cove from where the funeral service was held on Friday, Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. with Father Omar Reyes officiating. Interment followed in the Anglican Church Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.
