BYRNE, Michael J.
Passed on: September 12th, 2014

Passed peacefully away on Friday, Sept. 12, 2014 at the White Bay Central Health Centre in Roddickton, Michael J. Byrne of Conche. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memoires his wife of 46 years Marie; his children Gerry (Kerri), Melissa (Mark), Roxanne (Greg), Colleen (Steve), and Sheldon; his grandchildren Myah, Torri, Lucas, Karlei, Caitlin, Amy, Benjamin, Gregory, Kyle, and Jake; brothers Gerald and Vincent (Lucy); sisters Rose (Calvin), Mary (Lar), Laura (Don), Margaret (Art), and Theresa as well as a large number of nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends who all loved him dearly. He was predeceased by his parents Elias and Margaret Byrne and sister Sadie. The funeral mass took place at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15, at Sacred Heart Church in Conche with Father Vitus Echedo officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes Ltd., St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

COLES, William John
Born: September 7th, 2014

Passed away into peace on Sept. 7, 2014 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, Mr. William John Coles of Black Duck Cove, in his 78th year. William leaves behind to mourn Marilyn; Weston and family and the Caines families; his nieces Dorcas and Dorothy; nephews Whyman, Wilson, George, Gordon and the White families. Visitation took place at St. Mary's Anglican Church in Black Duck Cove from where the funeral service was held on Wednesday, September 10 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Harold Harvey and lay person Yvonne Dredge officiating. Burial followed the service at the Anglican Community Cemetery in Savage Cove. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

COOMBS, Myrtle
Born: September 16th, 1937
Passed on: September 14th, 2014

Born on Current Island on Sept. 16, 1937, Myrtle eventually moved to Plum Point where she raised her family. Later in life she moved to the Dove Complex in Norris Point. On Sept. 14, 2014, Myrtle Coombs of Plum Point passed peacefully away at the Bonne Bay Health Centre in Norris Point. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memoires her son Rodney (Rachel); daughters Evelyn (Doug) and Minnie (Marcel); granddaughter Shelley; grandsons Ryan, Joe and Bradley; brothers William and George (Mamie); sisters Caroline, Ruby, and Virginia (Calvin); brothers-in-law Jim, Joe and Gerald; sisters-in-law Lillian, Velma, and Masie; special friends Harvey Mudge, Patsy, Gerald and Roland, Elaine, Mary, Teressa, Lizzy, Walter, Richard and Doris as well as a large circle of other family and friends. She was predeceased by her father Walter, mother Amelia, brothers Jacob and John, and sister Matilda. Visitation was held at the Church of the Advent in Plum Point from where the funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17 with Rev. Harold Harvey officiating. Interment followed in the Anglican Cemetery in Pond Cove. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

GARDINER, Ronald Joseph
Passed on: September 14th, 2014

Passed away peacefully on Sept. 14, 2014 at the Miller Centre in St. John's in his 82nd year, Mr. Ronald Joseph Gardiner of Conche. Left to miss the "Twinkle" in his eye are his wife of 59 years Lucy; daughters Joan (Ron), Gertie (Bernie), Sharon, and Michelle (Bernie); sons Aus (Ida), Lou, Ed (Candy), and Des; grandchildren, Chad, Justin, Ryan, Brandon, Blair, Zachary, Zane, Braedyn, Connor, Patrick, Nathan, Luke, Jacob, Gillian, Kayla, Sheena, and Ashley; sisters Agatha, Susie and Sister Zita and many nephews and nieces. He also leaves behind a plethora of friends from the young to the young at heart. Visitation was held at the Sacred Heart Church in Conche, A celebration of Ron's life took place at Sacred Heart Church on Friday, Sept. 19 at 2 p.m. with Father Vitus officiating. Burial followed the funeral at the Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery. In memory of Wendell, please play or sing one of his favourite tunes. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. LAVERS, Baby Claire
Passed on: September 24th, 2014

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beautiful, strong baby, Claire Pyper Lavers, at the Stollery Children's Hospital, Edmonton, Alberta on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014 at the age of 10 months. Claire will be lovingly remembered by her adoring parents; mother, Kara, father, Chris, her twin sister, Shae, grandparents, Martin and Ina Lavers, grandparents, Dan and Holly Schleppe, grandpa, Vince Cox, uncle and aunty and cousin, Tracy, Clayton and Callie Hughes, uncle Curt Cox, great-grandparents, Walter and Mildred Biggin, great grandma, Edith Heslop and great grandmas, Dianne David. "Forever Loved, Never Forgotten". The funeral mass was celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5508 - 48A Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. with The Reverend Father Jozef Wroblewski celebrant. Interment was held at the Alto Reste Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta. If desired, memorial donations in Claire's honor may be made directly to the Stollery Foundation, c/o The Cardiac Unit at www.stollerykids.com. NEWMAN, Gladys Lucy
Born: November 15th, 1924
Passed on: September 11th, 2014

Passed away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony into the loving arms of her Lord on Sept. 11, 2014, Mrs Gladys Lucy Newman of Bide Arm, age 89 years. Gladys was born on Nov. 15, 1924 to Samuel and Patience Cassell of Great Harbour Deep. She leaves to mourn her daughters Patsy Randell (Frank) of Bide Arm, Juanita Randell (Ellwood) of Bide Arm, Iris Keefe (Robert) of Englee, Katie Hancock (Clarence) of Waterloo, Ontario, and Verna Reid (Sherlock) of Waterloo; sons Gideon Newman of Englee and Wyatt Newman (Patsy) of Englee; her brother Edmund Cassell of Hampden, as well as 21 grandchildren; 33 greatgrandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Gladys lived to see the passing of her husband Maxwell Newman, her brother Hezekiah Cassell and her sister Mary Cassell. Visitation took place at the Apostolic Faith Church in Bide Arm, from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14 with Pastor Howard Canning officiating. PATEY, Phyllis
Passed on: September 4th, 2014

Passed away into perfect peace with her family around her at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony on Sept. 4, 2014, Phyllis Patey of St. Anthony at the age of 87 years. Left with a lifetime of loving memories are her sons Rex (Leah), Don (Masie), Terry (Karen), Randy (Mary), Glenn (Gail), and Kirby (Glennis); her daughters Thelma (Lew), and Judy (Ernie); daughter-in-law Millicent; 25 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She will be forever loved and sadly missed by all who knew her. Phyllis lived to see the passing of her husband Archibald Patey, her sons Dennis Patey and Darren Patey and her granddaughter Treena Patey. Visitation was held at the Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony, from where the funeral service took place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6 with Pastor Jeff Bessey officiating. Burial followed in the St. Anthony Pentecostal Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

PERRY, Eliza Grace
Passed on: September 27th, 2014

Passed away at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony on Sept. 27, 2014, Mrs. Eliza Grace Perry of St. Anthony in her 83rd year. Left with their memories are her sisters Marina (Ephraim), Rita and Melva (David); brothers Guy (Audrey) and Don; special cousin Charles (Carletta) Fennimore; sisters-in-law Lydia Roberts and Winnie Roberts, as well as sisters-in- law in Burlington, NL, and a large circle of nieces and nephews. Eliza was predeceased by her parents, her husband Alonzo, sisters Jessie, Minnie, and brothers Roland, George and Mount. Visitation took place at Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes in St. Anthony, after which the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at The Salvation Army Church in St. Anthony with Majors Dinzel and Kathleen Baggs officiating. Burial followed the service at the church cemetery where Eliza was laid to rest with her husband Alonzo. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

STEELE, Derrice Maria Dobbin

It is with great loss and sadness that the family of Derrice Maria Dobbin Steele of Corner Brook (1964-2014) announces her sudden passing at home on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014 at the age of 50 years. She leaves to mourn her husband Wayne Steele; mother Eleanor (Onnie) Dobbin of Port Saunders; aunts Gertrude Lavers, Frances White, Jenny Hinks, and Eliza (John) Lavers; uncles Ben (Hazel) Dobbin, Stanley (Susan) Dobbin, and Calvin Dobbin, all of Port Saunders. Also leaving to mourn a very special aunt Maisie and uncle Herb House of Corner Brook; special cousin Hollis White of Port Saunders; childhood friends Jeanann Plowman Biggin (Kirby) of Port Saunders, Jacquie Kennedy LaBelle (Mario) of Quebec, and Jeanette Ryan VanWyck (Ben) of Ontario, as well as many other relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her father Patrick Dobbin, grandparents Louise and Jack White and grandparents Mary and John (Jack) Dobbin. Visitation took place at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Port Saunders on Monday and Tuesday from where the funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24 with Father Britto officiating. Interment followed at the Interfaith Cemetery, Sandy Cove. The family entrusted arrangements to Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port au Choix.

TAYLOR, Danisa Aimee Gail
Born: May 27th, 2000

Danisa "Aimee" Gail Taylor
was born in Raleigh on May 27, 1980 to Lola Taylor and Randy Patey. She was a beautiful lady with a smile that would warm anyone's heart. On May 27, 2000, Aimee gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Megan, who was the light of her life. Aimee passed peacefully away on Sept. 27, 2014 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony after a terrible battle with cancer. Aimee is survived by daughter Megan; mother Lola; grandmother/mom Mary; father Randy; stepmom Mary; sisters Taylor Cuthbert and Courtney Patey; brothers Colin Cuthbert and Justin (Tiffany) Patey; niece Addison Patey; uncle/brother John; aunt/sister Karen (Bern) and aunt/sister Denise (Jim). Aimee was predeceased by grandfather/dad Wilfred Taylor, grandparents Arch and Phyllis Patey, uncle Dennis Patey and uncle Darren Patey. The funeral service was held at the United Church in Raleigh on Wednesday, Oct. 1 with interment at the United Church Cemetery in Raleigh. Pallbearers were Justin Patey, Bobby Pilgrim, Luke Pilgrim and Logan Pilgrim. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

TAYLOR, Edwin Roland
Passed on: September 2nd, 2014

Passed away tragically at his private home in Ship Cove on the Sept. 2, 2014, Mr. Edwin Roland Taylor of Ship Cove in his 61st year. Edwin leaves to mourn his brothers Roy and David; his sisters Juanita (Adolphus Andrews), Winnie (Eric Pilgrim), Violet (Calvin Johnson), Karen (Cecil Humby), Maysie and Joanne, as well as six nephews, one great-nephew, two nieces, and a large circle of other family and friends. In his short years, Edwin suffered the loss of his father Robert J. Taylor, his mother Ethel M. Taylor, his brother Ronald G. Taylor and his sister Lephna Hurley. Visitation took place at the Pentecostal Church in Ship Cove from where the funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on the Monday, Sept. 8 with Pastor Joy Baker officiating. Burial followed the service in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

WALKER, Anthony (Tony) C.
Passed on: September 7th, 2014

On Sept. 3, 2014, Anthony (Tony) C. Walker of St. Anthony passed peacefully away in St. John's at the Health Sciences Centre. He was 53 years old. He is survived by his wife Marilyn; children Christopher (Tylee), Heidi (John) and Krysta (Travis) as well as two grandchildren Aadyn and Addyson. He is also survived by his mother Evelyn; sisters Jean (Jim), Joan (Bill), Dona (Wilson), Linda (Bill), and special sister Rachel Handrigan as well as mother-in-law Blanche Burt. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Selwyn (Ivy), Nita, Charl (Gaye), Carl (Selma), Guy (Karen), Eva (Riley) and Joyce (Roy), as well as many nieces and nephews, friends and co-workers. He was predeceased by his father Joseph, grandparents Frederick and Christina Slade, niece Andrea, nephew Adam, mother-in-law Naomi Strangemore and father-in-law Reuben Burt. Tony will be always remembered and missed. Visitation was held at K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home in St. Anthony. The funeral took place at St. Anthony United Church on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. Burial followed the service at the Fishing Point United Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

WARD, Wilbert (Bill) Anthony
Passed away on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony after a heroic battle with illness, Mr. Wilbert (Bill) Anthony Ward of Goose Cove, in his 53rd year. Bill leaves behind his dear wife Joyce; his son Tyler; daughters Robbi-lyn (Sheldon), and Hillary (Adam); his mother Johanna; brothers Gerard (Jeanie), Cyril (Judy), Jerome (Shirley), Ed, Ray, Clarence (Trina), Wayne, Clyde, Carl, and Dale; sisters Clara (Allan), Alice (Keith), and Lisa (Dave), as well as a very large circle of other family and friends. While not advanced in years, Bill still lived to see the loss of his father Felix, brother Ron and mother-in-law Carmel. Visitation was held at K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home in St. Anthony followed by the funeral service which took place at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Goose Cove at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10 with Father Vitus Echedo officiating. Burial followed the service at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.
