BROWN, Ethel Louise
Passed on: October 28th, 2016

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ethel "Louise" Brown announces her sudden passing on October 28, 2016 at the age of 48 years. She leaves to mourn with loving memories her spouse Trevor; son Dana (Jessica) and grandson Cooper; brothers Robert, Charles (Mindy), Albert (Hellen), and Joseph (Jennifer); step-brother Michael (Cora); sisters Margaret (Eugene), and Martha (Erik); step-sister Kim; sisters-in-law Vanessa (Glenn), and Vania (Roy); nieces and nephews Morgan, Keegan, Jasmine, Selena, Indy, Nicholas, Hayley, Joscelyne (Greg, Emma and Harrison), Kurtis, Patrick (Markita and Ava), Crystal, Julie, Spencer and Rachel; aunts Blanche and Nora Gear; extended family Karen and Mike Parsons as well as a large number of relatives and friends. Louise is predeceased by her loving parents Albert and Selma Brown and her uncle Ted Gear. Visitation took place at St. Mark's Anglican Church on October 31 from where the funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 1 with Rev. Diane Smith officiating. Interment followed in the Wild Bight Anglican Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre's Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

DEMPSTER, Wallace
Passed on: October 5th, 2016
Wallace Dempster
, 73, of Nameless Cove passed away at Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony on October 5th, 2016. Wallace had made the Ivy Durley Place his home for the past few months, where he soon made friends with the residents and staff. He was looking forward to spending the winter there with them. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his children Shawn (Connie), Shona (Amos), and his three grandchildren Kyle, Kendall, and Laci. He is predeceased by his wife Ellen, parents Maude and Richard, two brothers Baxter and Dudley, and two sisters Irene and Margaret. Visitation was held at the Gospel Hall in Nameless Cove from where the funeral took place on Saturday, October 8 with Eddie Barney and Edward Dredge officiating with interment following. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

HILLIER, Cassie Vine

Cassie Vine Hillier
of St. Lunaire-Griquet passed away on October 6, 2016 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 78 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband of 62 years, Allan Hillier; children Bob, Lawrence (Audrey), Glen (Shelly), Gary, Yvonne (George), Joann (Gene), and Jennifer (Dean); daughter-in-law Lesley; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren; one brother, eight sisters as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Fred and Gladys Burden, son Scott, and sister Florence. Visitation was held at the Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle in St. Lunaire-Griquet from where the funeral service was held on Sunday, October 9 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating. Interment followed in the St. Lunaire-Griquet Pentecostal Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

PITTMAN, Bridget

passed away peacefully at St. Claire's Mercy Hospital in St. John's on October 19, 2016 at the age of 90 years. She leaves to mourn her children: Michael John (Madelyn), Theresa (Bud), William James (Jane), Mary (John Joe), Primus (Christine), Ronald (Gloria), Shelia (Hughie), Melvin (Mary), Maurice (Wanda), Eileen (Matthias), Christine (Royal), and Lorraine (Lawrence); brother Edmund (Irene); in-laws Geraldine (the late William Lawless "Bill"), Marie Pittman (the late Joseph Pittman), Bertha Pittman (the late Michael John Pittman), Irene Pittman, Primus Pittman, Melina Gould (the late Pius Gould), Maxwell Gould (the late Theresa Gould), as well as a large number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Maurice Lawless (Benji) and Amelia Elizabeth Hynes as well as the families of her brothers and sisters-in-law. Visitation took place at Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church in Bird Cove from where the funeral service was held on Monday, October 24 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Ted Slaman officiating. Interment followed. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

SIMMS, Fannie
Born: December 14th, 1944
Fannie Simms
passed away peacefully at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the age of 87 years. Fannie was born on March 14, 1929 to William and Annie Hancock of Roddickton. On December 14, 1944 she was married to Frederick Simms of Woodstock, and was blessed with seven children. Fannie was a hard worker and for a number of years worked at the local fish plant and was a faithful member of LOBA for many years as well. Fannie was widowed at an early age (45) but continued to carry out her regular duties of running a home and raising a family alone. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children Joy (Pleman) Weir, Grant (Margaret), Wilfred (Wavey), David (Judy), Shirley (Hedley) Randell, and Guy (Donna). She also leaves 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; sisters Hazel Brenton, Irene Jacobs, Rowena Hopkins and a large circle of other family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Frederick Simms and son George. Visitation took place at the Salvation Army Church in Englee from where the funeral service was held on Wednesday, October 19 with Major Maurice Collins officiating. Interment followed. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

SMITH, Harvey Nehemiah Earle

passed away on October 21, 2016 at his private residence in Cook's Harbour at the age of 71 years. He leaves to mourn his niece Tammy (Claude); great-niece Lilly; nephew Ephriam (Jennifer); brother Leavitt Smith; sisters Linda Hedderson, Rose Desmaris (Keith), Marilyn Saunders, Jessie Colbourne (Tony), Elsie Osmond, and Lucinda Colbourne (Lorne); nieces and nephews Scott, Brett, Sharon, Mary, Marie, Stacey, Kim, Amy, Melanie, Michelle, Michael, Lori, and Lorenda as well as many other great nieces and nephews, and special friends Alex, Alpheaus, and Julie Smith. He was predeceased by his parents Cecil and Florence Smith, brother Stanley Smith, nephew Levi Colbourne and brothers-in-law William Hedderson and Havner Saunders. Visitation took place at the Anglican Church in Cook's Harbour from where the funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 25 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Diane Smith officiating. Interment followed in the Wild Bight Branch Anglican Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

STRANGEMORE, Marjorie
Passed on: October 21st, 2016

passed away peacefully at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony on October 21, 2016 at the age of 90 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and long memories her children: Monte (Christine), Rendell, Kevin (Marlene), Joy (Charles), and Ivy Grace; brothers Willis (Rita), Bruce, Albert, and Morgan (Linda); eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren as well as a large circle of other family and friends. She is predeceased by her husband Everton, her parents Frederick and Jane Colbourne, special uncle John Colbourne, sisters Florence, Irene, and Beryl. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes in St. Anthony from where the funeral service took place on Tuesday, October 25 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Katie Flynn officiating. Interment followed in the St. Anthony Anglican Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, Lee Nippard, funeral director.
