APPLIN, Rita
Passed on: November 17th, 2014

Passed away peacefully at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony on Nov. 17, 2014, Mrs. Rita Applin of Pigeon Cove, in her 84th year. Left to mourn her passing are her loving husband of 64 years, Edgar; her children Leona (Cliff), Fanny Ann (Harold), Ches (Pearl), Gideon (Mary), Everett (Elaine), and Myrtle (Roland). She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren Ann (Ken), Jamie (Shelly), Vanessa (Chuck), Boyd (Heidi), Ricky (Jennifer), Johnny (Waynette), Mandy (Wade), Shane (Gina), Keirsten (Brandon) and Elgin, as well as nine great-grandchildren Michael, Alyson, Nikala, Alexis. Anna, Joshua, Taylor, Aria and Kayleigh as well as her three brothers. Rita lived to see the passing of her children Edgar Jr., Dale and Myles, her parents and one brother and one sister. Visitation took place at the United Church in Pigeon Cove, from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday Nov. 20 with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. Burial followed the service in the United Cemetery in Black Duck Cove. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

BUSSEY, Betty Violet
Passed on: November 15th, 2014

Passed away peacefully with her family around her at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony on Nov. 15, 2014, Ms. Betty Violet Bussey of St. Lunaire-Griquet (Garden Cove), in her 76th year. Left to mourn Betty's passing are her daughter Tanya (Cyril); grandchildren Nicolas and Holly; sister Mabel Mayo; brothers Charlie, Dave and Fred. In her life, Betty seen the passing of her parents Thomas and Deborah Bussey, sisters Nina Patey, Ada Pynn, June Mullett and Effie Adey, and her brother Don Bussey. Visitation was held at the Central United Church at Quirpon Branch, from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19 with Rev. Gus Pendelton officiating. Burial followed the service in the Old United Cemetery in St. Lunaire-Griquet. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

BUTT, Benjamin
Passed on: November 16th, 2014

Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony on Nov. 16, 2014, Mr. Benjamin Butt of Mary's Harbour in his 84th year. Benjamin leaves behind his loving wife of 47 years, Joyce; his children Glenys (Scott) Rumbolt, Kelly (Albert) Penney, Gail (Hughie) Holley and Trevor (Michelle); grandchildren Jenna, Julia, Haley, Connor, Emily, and Sarah; his sisters Emma Samson, Martha (Gordon) Pye, Laura Dalton, as well as a large circle of other family and friends. In his life, Benjamin lost his mom and dad Susanna and Bartholomew, his brothers Edward, Frederick, Barton and Alex, and his nephew Garfield. Visitation was held at St. Mary's Anglican Church in Mary's Harbour from where the funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20 with Rev. Keith Sheppard officiating. Burial followed the service in the St. Mary's Anglican Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

COOMBS, Olga B.
Passed on: November 30th, 2014

It is with deep sadness that the family of Olga B. Coombs of Shoal Cove West announces her passing on Nov. 30, 2014 at the age of 61 years at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony. Left with very fond memories are husband Melvin; son Lars, his wife Thelma and grandchildren Bo and Reid; sisters Vivian (Stedman), Rowena (Cosmo), Elizabeth (Archibald), Bessie (Stew), Belinda (Stephen) and Lavenia; brothers Lambert (Iris) and Isreal (Kathleen); sister-in-law Ruby; brother-in-law Angus, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Eva and Lambert Coombs, brothers Leslie and Wilfred Coombs and sister Mamie Coombs. Visitation was held at Mount St. Margaret in Reef's Harbour from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4 with Rev. Harold Harvey and layperson Bernice Baines officiating. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

GENGE, Georgina
Passed on: November 13th, 2014

Passed peacefully away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on Nov. 13, 2014, Mrs. Georgina Genge of Bear Cove in her 81st year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children Nancy Coles, Daniel (Iris), Millie (Baxter) White, Kevin (Debbie), Wavey (Rex) Whalen, Joan (Randy) White, and Pam (Maurice) Way; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her siblings Bridget Gould, Alma (Garfield) Mitchelmore, Clyde (Ethel) Gould, Marie (George) Mitchelmore, Mary (Curtis) Dredge, Jane (Abe) Genge, and Austin (Ivy) Gould; her aunts and uncles Mary Ann Dredge, Christiana Chambers, Les (Hilda) Chambers, Jessie Gould, and Henry (Barb) Chambers as well as a large circle of other family and friends. She was predeceased in her immediate family, her husband Daniel, daughter Gaye, son Joshua, sisters Ivy and Gloria. Visitation was held at St. Matthew's Anglican Church in Anchor Point from where the funeral service took place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16 with Rev. Irving Letto officiating. Interment followed in the Old Anglican Cemetery in Anchor Point. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

GOODMAN, John

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Captain John Goodman (1936-2014) announces his passing on Nov. 11, 2014 in Port Saunders at the age of 78 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his children: Joanne (Elvis) Beaudoin, Yellowknife, John (Lisa) Goodman, Port Saunders, Patty (Boyd) Gould, Port Saunders, and Andrea (Dean) Doiron, Grande Cache, Alberta; grandchildren: Dawn (Lenny), Michael (Stacey), Andrew, Byron (Chelsea), Melissa, Johnny, Leila, Alyson (Jonathan), Danielle (James), Bobbi, and Gregory; former wife and special friend Gloria (Clifford) Parsons, Port Saunders; special friend: Philip Beaudoin and father of Leila and Alyson, Sept-Iles, Quebec; great-grandchildren: Cruz, Roman, Ashton, Ethan, Alyssa, Gabriel, Emma, and Drake; sisters: Joan (Alex) Rawcliffe, England, and Patricia (Robert) Short, England; sisters-in-law: Naomi Patey, and Sandra (Mark) Lowe; brothers-in-law: Rick (Nancy) Biggin, Jim (Hannah) Biggin, Walter (Mildred) Biggin, and George Biggin, and caregiver Corrine Lavers. He was predeceased by his parents: John and Alice Goodman, England, father-in-law: James Biggin, mother-in-law: Patricia Biggin, and many extended family members and friends. Visitation for family and close friends was held at St. John the Divine Anglican Church in Port Saunders on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from where funeral service took place on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 11 a.m. with Reverend Marlene Harvey officiating. HILLIER, Roland
Passed on: November 2nd, 2014

Passed away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on November 2, 2014, Mr. Roland Hillier of St. Anthony, in his 76th year. Roland leaves to mourn his wife Annie; children Morey, Gloria (Clement), Winnie, Vivian (Victor), Fred (Reeta), Tony (Margaret), and Robbie (Karen); nine brothers and sisters and a large circle of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his special furry friend Cheeko. Roland was predeceased by his father Hedley Hillier, mother Pearl Hillier and brother Kaye Hillier. Visitation was held at the Bethel Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony beginning Monday, Nov. 3 and continuing through to the funeral service, which took place at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6 with Pastor Jeff Bessey officiating. Burial Followed the service at the Pentecostal Cemetery in St. Lunaire-Griquet. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

KEAN, Roland Joseph
Passed on: November 20th, 2014

It is with great sadness that the family of Roland Joseph Kean of Plum Point, announce his passing on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014 at Strait of Belle Isle Health Centre, Flowers Cove. He was 78 years old. He leaves to mourn a loving family, devoted wife Valerie; daughter Patricia MacFetridge-Kean of Burin; sons Sean of Brampton, Ontario and Matthew (Janice) of Edmonton, Alberta; stepsons Wilson (Wanda) Matthews and Peter Matthews of West Bay Rd, Nova Scotia; brothers Lloyd (Georgia) Kean of Red Deer, Alberta, and Neville (Marge) Kean of Corner Brook; grandchildren Joshua, Melanie, Matthew, Ryan, Erin, Mary, Keigan and Carter. He also leaves to mourn many extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his late wife Angela, daughter Maura, parents Cecil and May Kean and sister Patricia Kean. The family entrusted his remains for cremation to Fillatre's Funeral Homes in Port au Choix and Crematorium in Pasadena, NL. A memorial service and Inurnment will be held at a later date to be announced.

REID, Bartholomew
Passed peacefully at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on Nov. 5, 2014, Mr. Bartholomew Reid of Englee in his 81st year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 59 years, Velma; daughters Patricia Reid (Dorman), Rowena Reid (Nigel), and Dora Reid; sons Guy (Rowena), Eric (Sharron), Raymond (Loretta), Alyvone (Mary), Willis, and Don (Wanda); grandchildren Fabian, Kyle, Janeen, Lorna, Sandi, Sarah, Raymond Jr., Kayla (deceased), Brendon, Wallace, Jonathan, Travis, and Samantha, great-grandchildren Gracie, Gage, Kynlee, Jada, Kylee, and Alexis; special niece Peggy Fillier; sisters Irene Canning, Annie Fillier, and Rosie Fillier, as well as a large circle of other family and friends. Visitation was held at the Pentecostal Church in Englee from where the funeral service took place on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Sansome officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

RYAN, Kevin Joseph
Passed on: November 29th, 2014

It is with great sadness that the family of Kevin Joseph Ryan of Hawkes Bay announces his sudden passing at Spirity Cove on Nov. 29, 2014 at the age of 77 years. He leaves to mourn a loving family: His wife Violet; daughters Brenda (Robert) Dobbin of Port au Choix, Pearl (Reginald) Pike of Fort McMurray, Alberta, and Goldie Ryan of Hawkes Bay; son Lonnie (Marg) Ryan of Hawkes Bay; grandchildren Kevin (Nicole), Kyle, Jessee (Andrew), Joseph (Karla), Jake and Sarah; great-granddaughter Keira; brothers Clarence (Louise), John (Marion) and Brendan. He was predeceased by his parents John and Elsie Ryan, brothers James, Austin, Michael and William, sisters Philomena Crane and Sophie Clothier, and his great-granddaughter London. He also leaves to mourn many extended family members, friends and neighbours. The funeral service was held at Bethel Pentecostal Church in Hawkes Bay on Wednesday, Dec. 3 with Pastor Trevor Deering officiating. Interment followed at the Interfaith Cemetery in Sandy Cove. The family entrusted his care and funeral preparations to Fillatre's Funeral Homes in Port au Choix.

SAMSON, Donald Hiram
Passed on: November 1st, 2014

Passed away into peace in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family, Mr. Donald Hiram Samson Jr. of Brig Bay on Nov. 1, 2014, in his 60th year. Left mourning with heavy hearts are his dear wife Myrtle and son Mitchel (Gina); brother Maitland; sisters Sheila (Wallace), Rose (Paul), Amanda (Claude) and Colette (Dave); parents-in-law Stedman and Alma Genge; brothers-in-law Claude (Daphney), Henry (Marion), Harvey (Lavina), Roy (Priscilla), and Stedman (Karen); sister-in-law Nancy (Pat); nieces and nephews Sheldon (Marilyn), Philip (Terri), Kelly (Scott), Sean (Sasha), Nicolas, Aaron, Russ, Jillian, Dwayne (Tina), Claude Jr. (Alva), Tyrone (Joanne), Maurice (Melissa), Tobi (Bud), Jordan (Jessica), Candice, Natasha, Tyler and Christopher (Effie); great-nieces Bryanna, Victoria and Mackenzie; great-nephews Austin, Nichalos, Brode, Jarred, Sheldon (Kayla). Despite his young age, Donald lived to see the passing of his parents Rowena and Donald Sr. and his sister-in-law Marilyn. Visitation was held at the Church of the Advent in Plum Point, from where the funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov.4 with Rev. Harold Harvey officiating. Burial followed the service at the Pond Cove Anglican Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Church of The Advent, Box 75, Plum Point, NL, A0K 4A0. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

WILCOX, Harvey John
Passed on: November 21st, 2014

Passed away in to peace on Nov. 21, 2014 at the White Bay Health Centre in Roddickton, Mr. Harvey John Wilcox of Roddickton in his 89th year. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Viola; his sons Raymond Wilcox of Roddickton, Winston (Judy) Wilcox of Roddickton, and Leander Wilcox of Roddickton; his daughters Priscilla (Michael) McGee of Florida USA, Ruby (Darby) Parsons, Roddickton, Belinda (Kirby) Newman of Englee, and Angela (Hank) Dean of Roddickton, as well as 19 grandchildren, 20 great- grandchildren, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Visitation took place at Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton from where the funeral service was held on the Thursday, Nov. 25 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Christopher R. Hewlett officiating. Burial followed after the service in the Roddickton Apostolic Faith Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.
