MCNEIL, HAZEL (BURDEN)
Hazel McNeil
, born to Tom Burden and Laura (Snow) Burden on October 15, 1913 in St. Lunaire, Newfoundland, died on November 5, 2004, in Lindsay, Ontario. She was predeceased by seven of her sisters and brothers. Hazel was a homemaker who, like many women of her generation, could card wool off a sheep's back, spin it and knit a sweater, crochet a bed-spread, sew a dress and smock it, make a poultice, spread fish on a flake, boil sheets in lye, bake breads and desserts, raise hens and African violets, put up berries and vegetables, darn a sock, and in between raise a family and put three hot meals on the table seven days a week. Hazel leaves to celebrate her life three children - Hector, Lois , and Curtis, as well as six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband Horace. A memorial service for her was held in Lindsay on November 13th. Hazel's ashes will be interred nest to Horace's in Belleville, Ontario.

RYLAND, STANDLEY - L'Anse au Loup
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Stanley Ryland announce his passing at the Labrador South Health Centre Long Term Care Unit on Nov. 6, 2004 at the age of 92 years. Leaving to mourn with fond memories are sons Gordon, Fred (Emma), Norman (Melita), and Clarence; daughters Gladys (James) and Meta (Fred); 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; sisters Georgina Young and Florence Linstead; as well as a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents John and Mariah Ryland, son Alfred, wife Minnie, grandchild Warrick, sisters Maud Earle and Violet Flynn, brothers Agustus, Fred and Stewart. Visitors were recieved at the L'Anse au Loup Gospel Hall from where the funeral service took place on Tuesday, Nov 9, at 2 p.m. with Francis Barney and Edward Barney officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy flowers were graciously accepted. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home in L'anse au Loup.

DUMARESQUE, ALBERT - L'Anse au Clair
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Albert Dumaresque announce his passing at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John's on Nov. 15, 2004 at the age of 79 years. Leaving to mourn with treasured memories his wife Alice (Hobbs); children Kenneth (Alice), Janet, David, Marilyn (Stan), Larry (Grace), Phyllis (Norm), Maureen (Billy), Florence (Ronald), Tony (Sylvie) and Bernard (Debbie); 22 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers George and Eldridge; sister Kathleen Letto, as well as a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Mary Ann Dumaresque, brother Stan and sister Viola. Visitors were received at the Anglican Church on Tuesday and Wednesday. The family service was held on Thursday evening at the United Church in Forteau and the funeral took place at the Anglican Church in L'Anse au Clair at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19 with Rev. Lee Michelin officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. As expression! s of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Homes, L'Anse au Loup.

SMITH, JANE - Raleigh
Passed peacefully away at her home in St. John's on Nov. 20, 2004. She was in her 67th year, She leaves to mourn daughters Vickie (Craig), Betsy (Gary), Drucy (Randy), Unia (Morris) and Donna (Rick); grandchildren Nancy, Lesley, Darryl, Miles, Carmella, Murrahy, Bobbi, Janet, Robyn, Tyrone and Michael; great-grandchild Cole; brothers Gaden (Delsie) and Amos (Madeline); sisters Mary (Bruce) and Virtue (Bart). She was predeceased by her husband Jerry, son Ray, sisters Leah and Laurie. Visitation took place at her late residence in Raleigh. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 24 at the Anglican church in Raleigh with Rev. Ross Rumbolt officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatrre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.

HUMBY PHYLLIS - St. Lunaire-Griquet
Passed away on Nov. 24, 2004 at John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony, Phyllis Humby of St. Lunaire-Griquet in her 82nd year. She leaves to mourn sons Hubert (Byrl), Cecil, Dennis (Glenda) and Doug; daughters Emma, Telsie (Leaton), Ivy (Wallace), Marjorie (Harvey) and Leona (John); sister Stella Earle; 29 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Violet Humby; son-in-law Roland Peyton, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Chesley (Dec. 19, 1986); daughter Mae, son Ralph, son-in-law Kay Hillier and daughter-in-law Sybil. Visitation took place at the Pentecostal Church in St. Lunaire-Griquet from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27 with Pastor Primmer officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Flowers were graciously accepted or donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.

LETTO, STEDMAN - L'Anse au Clair
June 10, 1932 - Nov. 26, 2004

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Stedman Letto announce his passing on Friday, Nov. 26, 2004 at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony at the age of 72 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Sarah; sons Steward of L'Anse au Clair and Junior (Tannis) of Eddies Cove; daughters Sharon (Ralph Jones) of L'Anse au Clair, Eileen (Cecil Dumaresque) of Labrador City and Sheila (Albert Parrill) of Eddies Cove; grandchildren Sean, Candace, Somonth, Christina, Tyler, Mitchell and Mallory; great-grandchildren Casey and Ashika; mother-in-law Elizabeth Mclean of Flowers Cove; brother George (Susie); sisters Jessie (Jim) and Martha of L'Anse au Clair, Evelyn (Bob) of Trinity Bay and Rose of Brig Bay; sisters-in-law Kathleen and Sarah of L'Anse au Clair, as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Benjamin and Albert Peter. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 29 at St. Andrews Anglican Church in L'Anse au Clair with Rev. Canon Roberta Woodman officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, Bear Cove/ Port au Choix.

PITTMAN, BEATRICE HARRIETT - Rocky Harbour
March 27, 1945 - Nov. 26, 2004

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Beatrice Harriett Pittman announce her passing on Friday, Nov. 26, 2004 at the Bonne Bay Health Centre in her 59th year. She will be sadly missed by her loving daughters Vicki and Paulette (Brenden); sons Daniel and Howard Pittman; mother Bertha Pittman; grandchildren Roxanne and Kristen; sister Daisy (Rex) Squires; brothers Dave (Betty) and Cliff (Irene), as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her father Gordon Pittman. Visitation took place on Friday and Saturday at St. Matthew's Anglican Church in Rocky Harbour from where the funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 28 with Canon John Olsson officiating. Interment followed at the family plot. Flowers were graciously accepted or donations can be made to the Cancer foundation. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parsons Funeral Home, 63 North Main Street, Deer Lake.

BILLIARD, LIZETA - Port au Choix
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lizeta Billiard announce her passing on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004 at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre in Port Saunders in her 84th year. She leaves to mourn daughters Brenda Gould of Port au Choix, Theresa (Bill) of Pasadena and Agnus (Gord) of Port au Choix; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Blanche; two very special people Carleen and Hollis; her guardian angel Marina; sisters Eleanor and Gertrude of Port Saunders; brother John (Greta) White of Corner Brook, sisters-in-law Frances White of Port Saunders and Violet White of Corner Brook, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Walter, son Walter Jr. (Bud), grandson Brendan (Ben) Gould, sons-in-law Gabriel Gould and Gord Companion, sister Hilda, brothers Joseph, Brendan, Raymond, Leo and Pius, sisters-in-law Laura and Barbara, and brother-in-law George. The family received friends at Fillatre's Funeral Home on Sunday and Monday. The funeral service took place on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. at St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Roger officiating. Interment followed at the In! terfaith Cemetery in Sandy Cove. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted or donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port au choix.

BYRNE, JOSEPH M. - St. Anthony
Passed peacefully away at John M. Gray Centre on Nov. 28, 2004. He was in his 73rd year. He leaves to mourn his wife Nellie; daughters Mary, Philomena (Blaine), Gertie (Dean) and Bernice (Todd); sons Terry, Anthony, Vincent (Cheryle), Frank (Faye), Gordon and Wilburn; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister Laura Carroll (Bill); brother William (Effie), and a large circle of nieces and nephews. Visitation took place at the funeral home on West Street in St. Anthony. The funeral mass was held at Sacred Heart Church in Conche at 11 a.m. on Wednesday , Dec. 1. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.
