Passed peacefully away at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on Nov. 1, 2003. She was in her 64th year. Leaving to mourn sons Nigel (Rowena), Gordon (Bessie), Clifford, and Dean; sisters Eileen (Job), Elizabeth (Freeman) and Joyce (Guy); brothers Leslie (Ivy), Edmund (Evelyn) and Fred (Bessie); grandchildren Melissa and Fabian, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Elva is predeceased by husband Harold and daughter Madonna. The family received friends at the United Church in Englee from where the funeral service took place 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4 with Rev. Arnold officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M Fillatre Funeral Home, Roddickton, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.

GASLARD, HARLEY REGINALD
Port au Choix

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Harley Gaslard announce his passing on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003 at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre in Port Saunders. He was in his 65th year. He leaves to mourn his wife Mary; children Linda (Pat) Payne of Port Saunders, Reg (Hughena), Faron and Ronnie (Joanne) of Brampton and Alisa (Rob) of Port au Choix; grandchildren Danielle, Danette, Deanna, Gregory, Stacey, Trista, Ronda and Susanne; great-grandchild Brianna; brothers John (Agnes), Vincent (Vera), Lawrence (Caroline) and Carl (Betty) of Port au Choix, and Wilfred (Elizabeth) of Hawkes Bay; sisters Ivy (Nigel) of Fort McMurray and Alfreda (Richard) of Stephenville; brother-in-law Martin Gould of Port au Choix; stepsister-in-law Rosie Payne of Ottawa, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his mother Ruby, stepfather Jack, father Charley Payne, sister Margaret Gould and brother Jerry. The family received friends at Fillatre's Funeral Home in Port au Choix on Wednesday and Thursday. The funeral service took place at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 7 at St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Roger officiating. Interment followed at Interfaith Cemetery in Sandy Cove. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port au Choix. MUGFORD, ELIZABETH DIANE
St. Anthony
July 1, 1931 - Nov. 4, 2003

Passed peacefully away at Curtis Memorial Hospital on November 4, 2003. She was in her 72nd year. Leaving to mourn daughters Carrie (Wilfred), Verbena (Bert), Velma (Clifton), Sarah Mugford (Paddy), and Elva (Donald); sons Wilson (Arlene) and Kenneth (Annetta); sisters Annie, Gloria (Jerry), Margaret, Rita (Raymond), Louise (Jim) and Madeline (Hector); brothers John (Stella), Caleb (Loretta) and Phillip (Betty); a large number of grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. She was predeceased by husband Benjamin, sons Raymond and Kenneth and daughter Emily. The funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7 at the Bethel Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony with Pastors William Cole and Stephen Sheppard officiating. Interment followed in the Pentecostal cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.

BELBEN, HENRY
L'Anse au Loup
Oct. 28, 1913 - Nov. 5, 2003

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Henry Belben announce his passing on Nov. 5, 2003 at Labrador South Health Centre Long Term Care Unit. He was in his 90th year. Leaving to mourn with treasured memories are children Alfreda (Stewart) Howell, Alfred (Mahala), Lily (Gilbert) Fowler, Eli (Sylvia), Leona(Gilbert) Yetman, Marion (Antonio) Cormier and Victor (Doreen); sister Julia Irene Ryland; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Violet in 1993. The family received friends at the home of Mr. Belben Wednesday evening and Thursday. The funeral service took place at the Anglican Church in L'Anse au Loup at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7 with Rev. Carl Arnold officiating. Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, L'Anse au Loup.

FORD-LEROUX, PHOEBE

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Phoebe Ford-LeRoux announce her passing on Nov. 7, 2003 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook at the age of 94 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her daughters Marion Bungay of St. Anthony and Maude Ropson (George) of Deer Lake;; son Simeon (Edna) Ford of Pollard's Point; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and 17 great great-grandchildren; sisters Martha Clarke and Judy Graham, both of Ontario, as well as a large number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her first husband Frank Ford in 1965 and her second husband Ralph LeRoux in 1986. Friends visited Fillatre's Funeral Home, 10 Clinic Drive , Deer Lake on Saturday evening, Sunday, and Monday. The funeral service was held Monday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. from St. Michael's and All Angels Anglican Church with Rev. Byron Barter officiating. Interment followed at the family plot, Farm Road . As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted or donations may be made to the Western Memorial Regional Hospital Foundation. CANNING, RENE FRANCIS
Deer Lake
Dec. 23, 1934 - Nov. 12, 2003

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Rene Francis Canning announce his passing on Nov. 12, 2003 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in his 69th year. He will be sadly missed by his wife Marjorie (nee Blanchard); children Rick (Kim) and Janice (Keith) Pardy, both of Deer Lake; Angela (Graham) Hynes of Fort McMurray; and Paul (Lori-Ann) of Deer Lake; nine grandchildren Chad, Sara, Luke, Adrienne, Jordan, Josh, Jessica, Steven and Hillary; brothers Alfred (Mabel) of Roddickton and Garland (Naomi) of Pasadena; mother-in-law Mary Gilley of Deer Lake, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Dorothy and Zacchaeus Canning, brothers Herbert and Tobias, sister Myrtle Weir and father-in-law Thomas Blanchard. Visitation took place at the Pentecostal Church in Deer Lake on Thursday from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14 with Pastor Snow officiating. Interment followed at the family plot. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lung Association. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parsons Funeral Home, 63 Northmain Street, Deer Lake.

Passed peacefully away at Curtis Memorial Hospital on Nov. 12, 2003. He was in his 75th year. He leaves to mourn wife Lavinia; daughters Elsie (Karen), Mary (Rennie), Ethel (John), Evelyn (Bill) and Lavinia; sons Max (Corinne), Anthony (Ellen), Edward (Lillian), George (Angela), Reginald (Phillis), Calvin (Hazel), Louis (Joan), John (Denise), Winston (Leone) and Lloyd (Rochelle); a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Visitation took place at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Goose Cove from where the funeral mass was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15 with Fr. Lee Lainey officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were sons Lloyd, John, Louis, Reg, George and Edward. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.

Mary's Harbour

Passed peacefully away at John M. Gray Centre, St. Anthony on Nov. 12, 2003. She was in her 80th year. She leaves to mourn her husband James; sons Edmund (Suzanne), Melvin (Bessie), Ivan and Ralph (Elaine); daughters Mina (Albert), Evelyn (Edward), Edna (Stewart), Ann and Alma; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by John, Phyllis, Donald and Clayton. Her remains went forward to the Anglican Church in Mary's Harbour from where the funeral service and interment was held with Rev. Williams officiating. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.

May 28, 1921 - November 15, 2003

Passed peacefully away at Curtis Memorial Hospital on Nov. 15, 2003. He was in his 82nd year. He leaves to mourn wife Charlotte; sons Nish (Joan), Bern (Nancy), Ambrose Jr. (Eileen), Simon, and Glen (Trudy); daughters Augustine (Robert), Anscombe, Theresa (Joe) Daluz, Wanda (Garland) Gaulton, Vonnie (Jock) Stevens, Ruby (Richard) Patey, Ismay (Jeff) Gould; grandchildren Keith (Jennifer), Gail, Ian (Adrienne), Tobi (Ike), Lloyd, Jason (Roxanne), Joan (Shane), William, Toni, Kelly, Kendall, Jock, Jeremy, Andrew, Amie, Nicole, Richelle, Christopher, Ashley, Shauna, and Jarod; great grandchildren Cody, Kaitlyn, Brett, Sheldon, Ryan, and Shanea; sister Mary (Richard) White; sisters-in-law Irene Rumbolt, Agnes Applin, and Vonnie (John) Myers; foster brothers and sisters Mike (Bertha), Christopher (Bridgett), Prim (Irene), Joe (Marie), Theresa (Max), Catherine, Mary Alice, Melina (Pius), Florence (Edmund), and well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents John and Mary Ann, brothers Nish, Fred, and Gus, sister Vonnie, foster mother and father Theresa and James Pittman, foster sister Nellie and foster brother James. Visitation took place at Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church in Bird Cove from where the funeral mass was held on Tuesday, Nov. 18, with Fr. Jack Malnegro officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.

HUMBY, RALPH
Ship Cove

Passed peacefully away at Curtis Memorial Hospital on Nov. 17, 2003. He was in his 57th year. He leaves to mourn wife Violet; sons Stephen (Cora), Ashley (Tracey), and Bart; daughter Lisa; Stepsons Maxwell and Andy (Amy); mother Phyllis; brothers Hubert (Byrl), Douglas (Dee), Dennis (Glenda), and Cecil (Sybil); sisters Emma, Telsie (Leaton), Ivy (Wallace), Marjorie (Harvey), Leona (John); brother-in-law Roland Peyton; sisters-in-law Elvina (Garland) and Eliza (Randolph); grandchildren Jackie-Lea, Jessica, Aaron, Alexander, Sarah; mother-in-law Jane Canning; as well as a large circle of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father Chesley and sister Mae Peyton. NEWCOMBE, SANDY ALEXANDER
Castor River North

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Sandy Newcombe announce his passing at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre in Port Saunders on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003 at the age of 87 years. Leaving to mourn 16 children Mary Scanlon (Brian), Ivan (Marty), Beatrice Caines (James), Clara Hynes (Tex), Sandy Jr. (Elva), Hazel Tatchell (Michael), Kerry (Shannon), and Alex, all of Castor River, Joyce Mahar (Guy), Ike (Rebecca), Vina Coulas (Steve), Hilda Penny (Lorne), Roy (Tina) and Doris Hutchings (Bob), all of Ontario, Jessie Taylor (Calvin) of Forresters Point, and Cornelia Newcombe of Corner Brook; 32 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother Tom Newcombe, as well as a very large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Alexander and Mary Rumbolt, and his wife Mabel, Nov.15, 2002. Friends visited Saint Ann 's Chapel, Castor River North from where the funeral service was held on Friday, Nov. 21, with Fr. Jack Malnegro officiating. FOWLER, PEARLIE BEATRICE

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Pearlie Fowler announce her passing on November 19, 2003 at the Labrador South Health Centre Long Term Care Unit, Forteau, Labrador, at the age of 89 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: Violet Pardy (William John), Wallace (Patricia), Whilamena Barney (Edward), Grace Augustine (Herb), Gilbert (Lily), Melvin (Sila), 15 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Victor Fowler, June 22, 1993 . Friends visited the St. John Anglican Church at Capstan Island on Wednesday and Thursday from where the funeral services took place on Friday, November 21 with Rev. Roberta Woodman officiating, assisted by Rev. Norman Cutler. Interment followed at the Capstan Island Cemetery in L'Anse au Diable. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted. The funeral was entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, L'Anse au Loup. Darlene Marshall Consultant.

CARROLL, BERNARD
Passed peacefully away in St. John's on Wednesday, November 19, 2003. Bernard Carroll, formerly of Conche, age 85 years. Predeceased by his son Eugene, 1995; parents Catherine and Patrick; brothers Vincent and Daniel; sisters Bridget Gardner, Minnie Fitzgerald and Sr. Antonia (Mercy Convent). Leaving to mourn his wife Josephine (Flynn); daughter-in-law Daisy Carroll; grandchildren Rodney and Penny; brother Clifford Carroll, sister Anne Flynn (Cyril), as well as many other relatives and friends. Visitation took place at Caul's Funeral Home, St. John's, and the funeral mass was held on Saturday, November 22 from Sacred Heart Church, Conche. Burial at Conche.

Dec. 7, 1922 – Nov.19, 2003

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Roy D. Gould Sr. announce his passing on Nov.19, 2003 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital. He was in his 80th year. He will be sadly missed by his daughters Bride Whey of Hawkes Bay, Linda Gould of River of Ponds and Patricia Gould of Deer Lake; sons Ray (Olive) Sheppard, Howard, William (Grace), Roy Jr. (Joy), Craig (Sherry) and Hank (Jacqueline), all of River of Ponds, and Jeffrey of Eddies Cove West; 23 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Dolly Gould of Port Saunders as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Ella B, sister Patricia Biggin, and brother Jacob. Visitation took place at Trinity Pentecostal Church in River of Ponds on Wednesday and Thursday from where funeral services took place at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21 with Pastor Green officiating. Interment followed at the family plot. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parsons Funeral Home, 63 Northmain Street, Deer Lake.

She leaves to mourn sons Michael (Marina), Newman (Caroline) and Fred (Linda); daughters Eleanor (Gerry), Marg (Lonnie) all residing at Hawkes Bay; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister Lydia (Tom) Sheppard of Hawkes Bay, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband John on Dec. 13, 1999 . The family received friends from Holy Innocent Anglican Church in Hawkes Bay on Friday and Saturday from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30 with Capt. Jason Haggstrom and Bishop Coffin officiating. Interment followed at River of Ponds Brook Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted or donations can be made to a charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port au Choix.
