Roddickton

Passed peacefully away at Curtis Memorial Hospital on May 5, 2006, Idella Canning of Roddickton, age 91 years. Leaving to mourn her sons Wilson (Lillian) and Martin (Susie) of Englee, and Harrison (Louise) and Earl (Hazel) of Roddickton, daughters Phyllis Cassell of Grand Falls, Pearl Hopkins (Calvin) of Englee, Madonna Fillier (Winston) and Joan Fillier (Wilburn) of Roddickton; 35 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Ivan. Visitation took place at the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 7 with Rev. Cassell officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Lee Nipard, funeral director.

DOYLE, THERESA DORA
New Ferolle

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Theresa Doyle announce her passing on Friday, May 5, 2006 at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre in Port Saunders at the age of 90 years. She leaves to mourn sons Dorman (Judy) of Fort McMurray, Alberta, Doff (Yvonne), James (Margaret), Henry (Doreen) and Joe of New Ferolle, and Dick and Dorman Patrick Jr. (Michelle) of Alberta; daughters Ellen of New Ferolle, Laura (Lloyd) Genge of Anchor Point and Ann Marshall of Silver Lake, Alberta; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers Joe and Pat Mahar of Bird Cove; sister Johanna Caines of Flowers Cove, as well as a large circle of other family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Patrick, sons Benedict, Maurice and Gerald and daughter Ruth Jill. The family received friends at St. Margaret of Scotland Church in Reef’s Harbour on Saturday and Sunday from where the funeral service took place at 11 a. m. on Monday, May 8 with Rev. Tim Moriarity officiating. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Port aux Choix.

CAINES, BERNADETTE
Bartlett’s Harbour

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Bernadette Caines announce her passing on Sunday, May 7, 2006 at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre in Port Saunders at the age of 85 years. Leaving to mourn her husband Gerald; children Mabel (Gordon) Byrne of New Ferolle, Gary (Beulah) and Leon (Valarie) of Bartlett’s Harbour, Florence (Ivan) Taylor of Ottawa, Alonzo of Winnipeg, Neila (Brian) Cochrane of St. John’s, Sheena (Wayne) Muggeridge of Corner Brook, and Guy (Brenda) of Goose Bay; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters Mabel Caines, Mary Rumbolt, Emily Caines and Laura Aucoin; brothers Adelora Beaudoin, Aime Beaudoin, and Frank Beaudoin; sisters-in-law Louise, Neila (Michael) Mahar, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her sisters Simone, Dorothy and Ann Marie, brothers Jerome, Raymond, Edmond, Alfred and Romeo. The family received friends at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bartlett’s Harbour on Monday and Tuesday from where the funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10 with Rev. Roger officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Port aux Choix.

GREEN, MARY EMILY
Main Brook

Passed away peacefully at Curtis Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family on May 7, 2006, Mary Emily Green, age 81 years. Leaving to mourn daughter Mary Ellen (George) and son Mount (Leone). She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Jamie (Sheila), Jason (Karen), Trina (Kent), Bryon, Brent (Desirea), Bernetta (Dave), Rene; all her great-grandchildren, as well as a circle of other family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Freeman and Clara, sisters Phillis, Edna and Maisie. Visitation took place at the Pentecostal Church form where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9 with Pastor Clarke officiating. Interments followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Danielle Galgay, funeral director.

MOORES, HILDA
Red Bay

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Hilda Moores announces her passing at Labrador South Health Centre Long Term Care Unit in Forteau on May 9, 2006 at the age of 89 years. Leaving to mourn with fond memories sons Reginald (Lily), Denley (Patsy) and Clayton; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, as well as a large circle of other family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Graham and sister Emma. Visitation took place at the United Church in Red Bay on Wednesday and Thursday from where the funeral service was held at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 12 with Rev. Karl Arnold officiating. Interment followed in the United Church Cemetery in Red Bay. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home. L’Anse au Loup.

ROBERTS, LAWRENCE
Forteau

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lawrence Roberts announces his passing at Labrador South Health Centre Long Term Care Unit in Forteau on May 12, 2006 at the age of 92 years. Leaving to mourn with fond memories wife Dorothy; daughters Donna Hancock (Winston), Louisa Dumaresque (Melvin) and son Ivan (Marilyn); eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister Christine Rice (Bill), as well as a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Abraham Roberts and Caroline Buckle. Visitation took place at the English Point Gospel Hall on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from where the funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 15 with Mr. Wallace Buckle and Mr. Francis Barney officiating. Interment followed in the Gospel Hall Cemetery in Forteau. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, L’Anse au Loup.

Passed peacefully away May 13, 2006 at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, Uriah Cull, age 92 years. Leaving to mourn daughters Ethel and Pearl (Floyd); sons Ron (Joyce), Norman (Margaret), Pearce and Carl (Lillian); daughters-in-law Clara Cull and Neta Pilgrim; sisters Gladys Cull and Beatrice Simms; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Aaron and Katherine, wives Lavinia, Elsie and Gladys, daughter Beatrice, son Wallace, brothers Abel, Joshua and Albert and sisters Minnie, Ethel and Mirah. Visitation took place at the Salvation Army Church in St. Anthony from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16 with Capts. Richard and Trudy Mouland officiating. Interment followed in the Salvation Army Cemetery in Great Brehat. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Danielle Galgay, funeral director.

WARD, MAY BRIDGET
Goose Cove

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Mary Bridget Ward of Goose Cove announces her passing on Saturday, May 13, 2006 at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her daughter Mary (Austin Ward) of Port Hope Simpson; sons Roy (Sharon) of Goose Cove and Ambrose (Kelley Ann Lahey) of Gatineau, Quebec; grandchildren Darla Ward, Janet Reardon, Chanda, Valerie and Adrian Ward, Kristina and William Lahey-Ward; brother Ambrose Davis; sisters Laura Alyward and Veronica Bromley as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Cyril, May 14, 1994, her parents Cecilia and Ambrose Davis, sister Irene Davis, brother John Alyward, and great-grandson Dakota Canning. Visitation took place at the funeral home on West Street, St. Anthony. The funeral mass was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16 at Immaculate Conception Church in Goose Cove with Fr. Anselm Umoren officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery in Goose Cove. Flowers were graciously accepted or donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Danielle Galgay, funeral director.

Passed away on May 14, 2006, William Burden, age 54 years. Leaving to mourn his partner Sarah; daughter Vanessa (Bill); son Matthew (Jenny); mother Maud; brothers Fred (Ethel), Herman (Rebecca), Shawn and Brad (Kathy); sisters Jessie (William), Pearl (Wilfred), Carrie (Harold), Marjorie (Leslie) and Ruby (Baxter); two grandchildren Kaina and Isabella Hedderson, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father Herman. Visitation took place the Calvary Pentecostal Church in St. Lunaire-Griquet from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17 with Capts. Richard and Trudy Mouland officiating. Interment followed in the Salvation Army Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. NORMORE, ROGER MALACHI
Mount Uniacke, Nova Scotia

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Roger Normore announce his passing at his family residence in Mount Uniacke, Nova Scotia on May 16, 2006 at the age of 39 years. Leaving to mourn with loving memories his wife Merina (Ryland) Normore; sons Roger Jr. (RJ) and Colton; family Wallace (Deliah) Rose; brothers Owen, Edmund (Roxanne) and Tyson; sisters Veronica (Peter), Nicole (Bradley) and Calla (Lyman); James and Jessie White; Beverly (Lyman) and Edna (Stephan); in-laws Charles and Rita Ryland, Elaine (Everett), Rhoda (Garry), Bonny (John), Sherry (Truman) and Charles Jr. (Sharon); nieces and nephews Luanne, Zachery, Joshua, Hannah, Keisha, Bradley, Damien, Deanna, Shane, Anna, Naomi, Nathan, Lyman Jr. and Gina, as well as a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents Thomas and Mary Normore Sr. and uncle Henry Normore. Visitors were recieved at the Anglican Church in L’Anse au Loup on Friday from where the funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 20 with Rev. Marlaine Leggo officiating. Interment followed in the Anglican Church Cemetery in L’Anse au Loup. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted. PILGRIM, GIDEON
St. Anthony

Passed away on May 19, 2006, Gideon Pilgrim, age 94 years. Leaving to mourn daughters Lucy, Millie (Hayward) and Harriet (Ron); sons Harvey (Donna), Bruce (Gertie) and Charles (Joyce); brother Kenneth; sister Jessie (Raymond); brothers-in-law Fred Budgell, Charles (Bessie) Budgell and Bill Budgell; sister-in-law Deborah Rowbottom; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, as well as a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Violet, parents Lunce and Henry, son Henry, brothers Stewart and Pearce, sisters Meta, Olive, Evangeline, Georgina, Florence, Mary Sarah and Maria, and sons-in-law Fred and Dale. Visitation was held at the Salvation Army Church in St. Anthony from where the funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 22 with Capts. Richard and Trudy Mouland officiating. GENGE, EFFIE BLANCHE (NEE COMBS)
Anchor Point

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Effie Genge announce her passing on Sunday, May 21 at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 58 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Chesley Genge; sons Kerry Blair, Herbert Bruce (Charmaine) and Aaron Floyd (Ruby Parrill); grandchildren Skylar Leslie, Colton Bruce, Mitchell, Belle Rhonda and Kendre Ashlie; mother Florence Coombs; brothers Roland (Myrtle) Coombs, Ace (Marion) Coombs, Nelson (Georgina) Coombs, Albert (Olga) Coombs and Angus (Viola) Gould; sisters Bertha (David) Lindsey, Dorcas (Stewart) Genge, Barbara (Henry) Chambers, Marie (Rex) Hodder, Mona (Lambert) Hughes and Lucy Coombs (Herbert Baines), and mother-in-law Hannah Genge, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her father Roland Coombs and brother George Coombs. The family recieved friends at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in Anchor Point on Monday and Tuesday from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24 with Rev. Maki officiating. CLOUTER, MINNIE
Roddickton

Passed peacefully away on May 22, 2006 at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony, Minnie Coulter, formally of Roddickton, at the age of 87 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her daughter Enid Foley (Christopher) of Conche and Arlene Goodyear (John) of Roddickton, also grandson Paul Foley. She leaves to mourn brothers, John Brown of Jacksons Arm, Jim Brown (Clara) of California, Eddie Brown (Virginia) of Winnipeg and her sister Marie Coughlin of London, Ontario. Minnie was predeceased by her husband Fred Clouter in 1997, parents John and Mary Brown, brothers Clayton Brown, George Brown and sister Gertie Bears. Visitation took place at John Wesley United Church in Roddickton from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 25 with Rev. John McGonigle and Karl Arnold officiating. Interment followed in the United Church Cemetery in Roddickton. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

Roddickton

Passed away on May 26, 2006, Fred Clements, age 74 years. Leaving to mourn wife Shirley; sons Everett ( Tina) and Corwin (Paula); daughter Roxy (Roy); grandchildren Ryan, Rhea, Christa, Nathan, Megan and Blake; great-grandchild Noah; sisters Clara (Pat) and Tamar. He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Levinia. Visitation took place at the Pentecostal Church in Roddickton from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30 with Pastor Grimes officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

WAY, BENJAMIN
Flowers Cove

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Benjamin Way announce his passing on Saturday, May 27, 2006 in the presence of his family. He was in his 75th year. He leaves to mourn his wife of 39 years Nellie (nee Batstone); daughter Neta of St. Anthony; sons Austin (Aggie), Ivan, Bob of Fort St. John, British Columbia, Derek and David; sisters Julie (Harold) of Reef’s Harbour and Marjorie (Gil) of Raleigh and their families; grandson Gregory and granddaughter Taylor of Fort McMurray, Alberta, and a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by parents Stephen and Alice Way and brothers Gordon and Raymond. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 3 at St. Barnabas Anglican church in Flowers Cove. Interment followed in the Anglican Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

BENNETT, CATHERINE REBECCA
St. Paul’s
Jan. 13, 1908 - May 28, 2006

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Rebecca Bennett announce her passing on Sunday, May 28, 2006 at the Bonne Bay Health Centre in Norris Point at the age of 98 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her daughters Vera (Randall) Pittman, Marie (Kevin) Bennett and Melinda (Peter) Mackey; sons Felix Bennett; adopted son Kevin Freeman Bennett; 35 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; sisters Martha Payne and Fannie Bennett, both of St. Paul’s; adopted nephew Frank Bennett, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives. She was predeceased by her husband Isaac Freeman Bennett, daughters Daisy (Jobie) Payne, Maude (Maurice) Bennett and Rosette Bennett. Catherine Rebecca Bennett, fondly known as Aunt Becky was renown throughout the Northern Peninsula for her singing and dancing. She received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the St. John’s Folk Art Council in recognition to her contribution to the cultural heritage of Newfoundland and Labrador. When asked what she would like to be remembered for she replied, “For my singing and my dancing”. Family and friends visited Holy Spirit Parish Church in St. Paul’s on Tuesday from where the funeral service took place on Wednesday, May 31 at 2 p.m. with Fr. Roger Poblete officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery in St. Paul’s. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Spirit Parish Church Memorial Fund, St. Paul’s, A0K 4Y0. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parsons Funeral Home, 63 North Main Street, Deer Lake.
“Forever in Our Hearts”

WALSH, JUANITA BLANCHE (NEE WHITE)
Nameless Cove

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Juanita Blanche (nee White) Walsh announce her passing on May 30, 2006 at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre in her 94th year. She will be sadly missed by her children Lucy (Paul), Mike (Pearl), Edith (the late Bryant), Betty (Mark), Gloria (Keith) and Bill (Carol); sister-in-law Betty Spence and her 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents William and Melvina White, her husbands Michael Lawless and Lawrence Walsh, and her son Bryant Walsh (April 20, 2006). The funeral service took place at the Roman Catholic Church in Flowers Cove on Friday, June 2 with Fr. Ambrose Hynes officiating. Interment followed in the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Nameless Cove. Cremation had taken place at her request. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted. Arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, funeral director.
