CORNICK, MARY ELLEN (NELLIE)
Port au Choix

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Mary Ellen Cornick announces her passing on Saturday, March 4, 2006 at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 77 years. She leaves to mourn her children Terry (Cathy), William (Ella), Anne Frost and Rod (Carla) of Port au Choix, Millicent (Allan) Dwyer of Fogo Island, Susan (Bruce) Greenough of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Ben (Sally) of Ottawa, Veronica (John) Auld of Oromocto, New Brunswick and Debbie (Lawrence) House, Andre (Shelley) and Gen (Murray) Lavers of Port Saunders; 22 grandchildren; sisters Marjorie Myers, Von Plowman of Bartlett's Harbour and Cecilia Kleinschroth of Ontario; brother James Burke of Port au Choix, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Roderick, children Barbara and Mary, parents William and Julie Ann Burke, brothers Patrick, Clarence, William, Bryant, Ben and Stanley, and sister Mary. Visitation took place at Fillatre's Funeral Home in Port au Choix on Sunday and Monday. The funeral service was held at St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 7 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Aiden Divine officiating. Interment followed at the Interfaith Cemetery in Sandy Cove. As expressions of sympathy flowers were graciously accepted. Donations were made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Rufus Guinchard Health Centre. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port au Choix.

WAY, HAZEL
Flowers Cove

Passed peacefully away on Saturday, March 4, 2006, Hazel Way, age 82 years. Left with fond and loving memories sons Wilson, Baxter and Stewart (Ivy); daughters Pearl (Mike), Viola (Mel), Alma (Bill) and Katrina; daughter-in-law Lorraine; grandchildren; great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Stewart, sons Austin and Morris, grandsons Mel Jr. and Darryl, daughter-in-law Lucy and son-in-law Clyde. Visitation took place at the United Church in Flowers Cove from where the funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7 with Rev. Karl Arnold officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Levinia Caines Fillatre, funeral director.

NEWMAN, DAISY
Englee

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Daisy Newman of Englee announce her passing on Monday, March 6, 2006 at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 85 years. She leaves to mourn her husband of 66 years John Newman; daughters Juanita (Norman) Stoliker of Kingston, Ontario, Olive (Gordon) Walker of Sarnia, Ontario, and Shirley (Scott) Hopkins and Glenda (Rudy) Porter of Englee; sons Junior (Arlene) Newman and Perry (Lenita) Newman of Capreol, Ontario; brothers Clancy Fillier, Reginald (Lucy) Fillier and Alvin (Blanche) Fillier, all of Englee; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Patience and Aubrey Fillier, loving daughter Ida Newman, sisters Ida (Bill) Ivany, Gladys (Joe) Policaro and brother Sandy (Dulcie) Fillier. Visitation took place at the Salvation Army Church in Englee from where the funeral service was held on Friday, March 10 with Capts. Blaine and Darlene Hopkins officiating. GENGE, ALLISTER
Anchor Point

Passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2006, Allister Genge of Anchor Point at the age of 69 years. Left to mourn with fond memories daughter Melissa (Stanley) Dredge; sons Clay (Tina) and Leon: grandchildren Shannon Cooper, Megan and Kyle Dredge and Jennifer Genge; special friend Sybil Taylor; brother Abraham (Josie) Genge; sisters Laurie Chambers and Edna (Baxter) Buckle, as well as a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Selina (Sinnicks), parents Muriel and Noah Genge, sisters Joannah Chambers, Cinderella Tucker and Susannah Chambers, brothers Harold Genge and Gordon Genge. Visitation took place at St.Matthew's Anglican Church in Anchor Point from where the funeral service was held at 1:30 p. m. on Sunday, March 12, 2006 with Rev. Maki officiating. DENNEY, LORENZO
Roddickton

Passed away on Monday, March 13, 2006, Lorenzo Denney, age 85 years. Leaving to mourn his wife Elizabeth Denney of Roddickton; sons Raymond of Kitchener, Ontario, Bennett (Betty) of Englee, Douglas and Wade (Ann) of Fort McMurray, Alberta, Enos (Edna) of Whitecourt, Alberta, Fred (Judy) of Marathon, Ontario and Austin (Roselyn) of St. John’s; daughters Anna (Randolph) Randell of Englee, Christina (Junior) Rowsell and Sandra (Larry) Macdonald of St. John’s, Dorothy Gillard of Medicine Hat, Alberta, and Millicent (Robert) lane of Roddickton; sisters Ethel Fillier of Roddickton, Maude Weir of Hampden, and Della (Chuck) Piecarski of New Orleans, Louisiana; stepbrother Leonard Fillier of Toronto, Ontario; 32 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, and a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his sister Mary, brothers Fred and Osbournse. Visitation took place at the Apostolic Faith Church in Englee from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on March 17, 2006 with Pastor Quinlan officiating. REARDON, LEO
Goose Cove

Passed peacefully away on Tuesday, March 14, 2006, Leo Reardon of Goose Cove, age 88 years. Left with fond and loving memories sons Alphonsus (Patsy), Gerald and Jerome (Marie); daughters Evangeline (Ed), Mary (Mike), Delores (Marty) and Lillian (Victor); daughter-in-law Pearl; special son/grandson Glen; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother Tony (Gertie) and sister Anastacia. He was predeceased by his wife Gladys, son Frank, grandson Terry, sister Rita, brothers Joe, Albert, Patrick, William and Herbert. Visitation took place at the funeral home on West Street, St. Anthony. The funeral service was held on Saturday, March 18 at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Goose Cove with Fr. Joseph Muchena officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, Danielle Galgay, funeral director.

BENNETT, JANE
July 24, 1902 - March 14, 2006

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Jane Bennett announces her passing on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at the Interfaith Home, Corner Brook in her 103rd year. She leaves to mourn with loving memories daughters Rube Bungay (Harvey) and Mary Lawlor (Peter); son Crosby Bennett ( Edna); 10 grandchildren seven great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren, along with a large circle of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Alex (1990). Visitation took place at Holy Cross Anglican Church in Daniel’s Harbour from where the funeral service was held on Friday, March 17 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Pratt officiating. Interment followed in the Anglican Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted or donations may be made to Holy Cross Anglican Church in Daniel’s Harbour. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Corner Brook.

HEDDERSON, DIANE
St. Lunaire - Griquet

Passed away on Friday, March 17, 2006, Diane Hedderson of St. Lunaire-Griquet at the age of 51 years. She leaves to mourn husband Floyd Earle; children Darrell (Colette), Jody (Brian) and Tracy; grandchildren Kaya and Sarah; mother Blanche; brothers Wilf (Christine), Clyde (Grace), Clarence (Wavey), Baxter (Ruby), Carl (Joy), Hubert (Miranda) and Dennis (Alina); sisters Joy (Ken), Ruth (Gerald) and Gaye (Kirby); seven nephews and five nieces. She was predeceased by her father Peter Hedderson. Visitation took place at Central United Church from where the funeral service was held on Monday, March 20 with Rev. Pendleton officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Danielle Galgay, funeral director.

MOORES, ELSIE MARIE
Corner Brook
Formerly of Red Bay

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Elsie Moores announce her passing on Friday, March 17, 2006 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, after a long and courageous battle with ALS. Elsie was 53 years old. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Richmond Moores of Red Bay; three children Gillian of Corner Brook, Trina (Drew) Hitchens, Oxbow, Saskatchewan, and Matthew of Corner Brook; mother Mrs. Hilda Stone of Corner Brook; sisters Irene Antle (Tom), Olive Lynch (Tom) and Maxine Reid (Alvin) of Corner Brook, Trudy Rozon (Darryl) of Nova Scotia; brothers Ellis Stone (Dallas) of Red Bay and Ira Stone (Sylvia) of Corner Brook; special friend Aunt Rose Fowler of Red Bay, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her father George Stone. Visitation took place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue on Sunday from where the funeral service was held on n Monday, March 20 at 2:00 p.m. with David Mitchell officiating. Cremation to follow. As expressions of sympathy, donations in memory may be made to the ALS Society, Newfoundland and Labrador branch. The family guest book may be signed or a memorial donation may be made to the ALS Society of Newfoundland, Box 844, Corner Brook, NL, A2H 6H6. CASSELL, ELIAS
Roddickton

Passed peacefully away at Johm M. Gray Centre on Saturday, March 25, 2006, Elias Cassell, age 79 years. Leaving to mourn sons Grant (Linda) of Birchy Bay, David (Dorothy), Raymond (Patsy) and Archie (Janice) of Roddickton, Ricky of St. Paul, Alberta, and Kevin (Allison) of Devon, Alberta; daughters Gladys (Herman) King and Margaret (Kenneth) Kelly of Hawkes Bay, Cindy (Dennis) Newman of Fort McMurray, Alberta and Marlene (Gideon) Burton of South Brook; 33 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters Gladys Bennett and Stella Hopkins, both of Carbonear, as well as a circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Melina. Visitation took place at the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28 with Rev. Cassell officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Danielle Galgay, funeral director.

CHAMBERS, ELI WILSON Port au Choix
April 4, 1927 - March 25, 2006

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Eli Wilson Chambers announce his passing on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre in Port Saunders in his 79th year. He will be sadly missed by his children David (Yvette), Myles (Josie), Lloyd (Jenny), Sherry (Robert) and Doris (George); grandchildren Nicki, Milton, Tobi, Lloyd, Carolyn, Joshua, Nicholas, Stacy and Sheena; great-grandchildren Sheldon, Tyan and Devon; brothers Ronald (Miriam) and Clyde; sisters-in-law Lori, Christiana and Linda (Melvin), and a large circle of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Caleb and Sophie, brothers Absalom, George and Hubert, sisters-in-law Sophie, Josephine, Dora and Harriett. Visitation took place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home in Port au Choix on Sunday. The funeral service was held at St. Thomas Beckett Anglican Church in Port au Choix on Monday, March 27 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Tanya White officiating. Interment followed in the Interfaith Cemetery in Sandy Cove. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted or donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. DOYLE, WILFRED SR.
St. Barbe

Passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2006, Wilfred Doyle of St. Barbe, age 70 years. He leaves to mourn his wife Mary Rachel; sons Keith (Joy), James, Dean (Doreen) and Wilfred (Donna); daughter Myrtle (Jock); special grandson Skyler; grandsons Gina, Joshua, Devon and Evan; granddaughters Danica, Chantel, Katie, Sacha, Alyx and Tori; sisters Virginia (the late James Gibbons) and Linda (Douglas); brothers Chesley (Caroline), colin (Doreen) and Leslie (Karen); sisters-in-law Dorcas (Erwin) and Florence (Robert); good friend Garfield Caines Sr., as well as a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his mother Mary Margaret and father Abraham. Visitation took place at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Black Duck Cove. JOHNSON, LEATON GEORGE SR.
St. Anthony

Passed peacefully away on Monday, March 27, 2006, Leaton George Johnson, age 86 years. He leaves to mourn children Winston (Zona), Bernard (Jean), Pearce (Prescilla), Calvin, Elizabeth (Hedley), Burnette (Cyril), Dudley, Martha (Desmond), Sandra (Ronnie), Leaton (Angela), Joseph (Darlene) and Shawn (Mary); special daughter/granddaughter Stacey and Nina (Hayward); 29 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brother James, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Sybil and granddaughter Rhondine, six sisters and one brother. Visitation took place at the funeral home on West Street, St. Anthony. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 30 at St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church in St. Anthony. At Leaton’s request, cremation has taken place. Interment will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Danielle Galgay, funeral director.

Passed peacefully away on Wednesday, March 29, Jehu Parsons, age 76 years. Leaving to mourn his wife Sadie; daughters Donna (Morey) and Joan; grandchildren Jeremy, Chelsey, Emma and Hannah; brothers Robert (Beulah) and Freeman (Hazel); sister Dulcie, as well as a circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by parents Jehu and Fannie and two half-sisters. Visitation took place at the funeral home on West Street, St. Anthony. The funeral service was held at the United Church in St. Anthony at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 1 with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Danielle Galgay, funeral director.

PENNEY, GERALD CHARLES
St. Anthony

Passed peacefully away on March 29, 2006 at John M. Gray Centre, Gerald Penney, age 73 years. Left with fond and loving memories his wife Dora; children Patti (Murray), John, Carolyn (Craig), Robert (Helen) and Christina (Lott); six grandsons Lyndon, Dylan, Matthew, Lucas, Jacob and Jack; brother Roger (Catherine), and sister-in-law Alma Penney. He was predeceased by his parents Harold and Mary and brother Guy. Visitation took place at the funeral home on West Street, St. Anthony. The funeral service was held at the United Church in St. Anthony at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 31 with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Danielle Galgay, funeral director.

HUMBY, LAURA
Oshawa
1943-2006

Passed peacefully away at home in Oshawa, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, March 31, 2006, in her 63rd year. Laura leaves behind her mother, Rosie Comeau of Joggins, Nova Scotia and her husband Carl. She is survived by her sister Diane (Cecil Brown); brothers Bernie (Jean) of Tignish, Nova Scotia, Wayne (Eileen) of Toronto and Gornald (Ruby) of River Herbert, nova Scotia; daughtes Leca (Kevin) and Tina (Bill); sons Rodney Brown (Brenda), Warren Brown(Della) and Ernie Deroy (Beth); step-daughters Tina Crawford and Terena Humby. She was predeceased by her father, Fred Comeau. Laura will be dearly remembered and much loved by her 12 grandchildren. In keeping with her wishes, cremation takes place immediately. Visitation took place at Thornton Chapel, 847 King Street West on Monday, April 3. A memorial service was held in the chapel on Tuesday, April 4 at 11 a.m. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
