Passed away peacefully at John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony on March 3, 2003. Sophia Penney (nee Gaulton) in her 83rd year. She was predeceased by parents George and Una Gaulton at Barr'd Harbour, husband Arthur and daughter Palma . Leaving to mourn sons Oscar (Elaine) of Savage Cove and Sherman (Cheryl) of Cambridge, Ontario; daughter Pauline (Terry) of St. Anthony; grandchildren Mark, Jared, Keri, Penny, Janet, Lance, Tracy, Krista, George and Kimberly, and two great-grandchildren Alexis and Zachary. Visitation took place at the funeral home on West Street . The funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the United Church in St. Anthony with Rev. John Maich officiating. Interment followed at Mount Patricia Cemetery in Corner Brook. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.

WAY, LLEWELLYN
Savage Cove

Passed peacefully away at John M. Gray Centre on Monday, March 3, 2003. He was in his 78th year. He leaves to mourn wife Dulcie; sons Earle (Wavie), Alonzo (Judy), Melvin (Gloria) and Harrison; sisters Rachel, Jane and Winnie (Kenneth); special sister Rachel Parrill; brothers John (Louise) and Earl Sr. (Mary Ellen); seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is predeceased by parents Elijah and Keziah. Visitation took place at the Anglican Church in Savage Cove from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 6 with Rev. Elder officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangement were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.

COATES, EDGAR
St. Anthony

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Edgar Coates announce his passing on Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 82 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Margaret; son Truman (Shirley); daughter Celia (Edward); grandchildren Sherry (Bob), Karen, Truman (Darlene), Judy (Barry), Trudy, Jackie (Dominic) and Eddie; brothers Philip (Rita) and Thomas (Agnes); sister Amy (Steadman); sisters-in-law Blanche (Reuben) and Emily; brothers-in-law Gordon and Benjamin; special niece Effie (Albert) as well as seven great grandchildren and a large circle of nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. Visitation took place at the funeral home on West Street , St. Anthony. The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 7 at St. Mary's Anglican Church in St. Anthony with Rev. Jean Brenton officiating. Interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery in Eddies Cove East. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted or donations can be made to St. Mary's Anglican Church, St. Anthony. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. HUNT, DORCAS
Harbour Grace

Passed peacefully away at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on Wednesday, March 5, 2003, Dorcas Hunt in her 82nd year. She is predeceased by her husband Frank and son Lloyd. Leaving to mourn daughter Nellie (William); grandchildren Gina and Aurthur Ash, Francis Hunt and Dawn Vasaglene, great-grandchild Dominique Vasaglene; daughter-in-law Marie Hunt; brothers Rev. A.B. Legrow (Mildred) and Lloyd Legrow; sisters-in-law Beatrice Legrow and Doris Legrow, as well as a large number of nieces and nephews. Her remains went forward by motor hearse to Harbour Grace. Visitation took place at Noel's Funeral Home as well as K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home. The funeral service and interment will take place at a later date. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.

PLOWMAN, OLGA MARY
Port au Choix

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Olga Plowman announce her passing at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre on March 6, 2003. He was in her 73rd year. Leaving to mourn her sisters Olive, Jillian, Marie (Martin) Lowe, Alma, Hilda (Joseph) Lavers, Noreen (John) Lowe; brothers Clyde (Bertha) Plowman and Ebbie, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Henry and Lucy Plowman; brothers Edgar, Jimmy and Henry Jr. The family received friends at Fillatre's Funeral Home in Port au Choix. The funeral service was held at St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Edward Terry officiating. Interment followed at Interfaith Cemetery in Sandy Cove. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted or donations can be made to a charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port au Choix. Passed peacefully away in the presence of his family at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on March 9, 2003, Percy Manuel, age 76 years. He leaves to mourn his sister Hazel (Roy) Parrill of Labrador City; sister-in-law Margaret Manuel of St. Anthony; brother-in-law Woodrow Bowers of Pasadena; special nephew Colin (Donna) Manuel of St. Anthony, as well as a large circle of nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, grandnieces and friends. Visitation took place at the funeral home on West Street . The funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11 at St. Mary's Anglican Church in St. Anthony with Rev. Jean Brenton-Hickman officiating. Interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery in Main Brook. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Jerry Hedderson announce his passing at the family residence on Monday, March 10, 2003 at the age of 75 years. Leaving to mourn his common-law wife Julie Matchim; brothers Vernon of Savage Cove and John (Ida) of Goose Bay; sisters Victoria (Tex) Davis of Georgia, USA, Josephine Johnson of Flowers Cove and Delina Anderson of L'Anse aux Meadows, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his parents Walter and Delina Hedderson. The family received friends at St. Matthew's Anglican Church in Savage Cove, then at Central United Church in Griquet from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12 with Rev. Passed peacefully away on March 12, 2003 at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony. She leaves to mourn husband Leamond; children Evelyn (Dennis) of Kitimat, BC, Byron (Penny) of Corner Brook, Darren (Rhonda) and Michelle (Patrick), both of Englee; grandchildren Brandon, Michael, Amy and Christopher; parents Mary and Roland Lane of Englee; sisters Lillian (David) of Calgary, Alberta and Joy (Paul) of Englee; brothers Wilson (Noreen) of Englee, Woodrow (Cindy) of Fort McMurray and James of Englee, mother-in-law Rhoda Fillier of Englee, as well as a large number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation took place at the Apostolic Faith Church in Englee from where the funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 15 with Pastor Vanzel Quinlan officiating. DECKER, RAYMOND LAMBERT
Ship Cove

Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's on March 13, 2003. He was in his 83rd year. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Ruby; sons Keith (Rosalind), Raymond (Lynn), Reginald (Debbie) and David (Joan); daughters Sharon, Elizabeth (Wayne) and September (John); 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a large number of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Reginald and Bertha Decker, sisters Amelia, Dorothy and Maysie. Visitation took place at the Ship Cove United Church from where the funeral serviced was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 17 with Rev. Victor Hamlyn officiating. APPLIN, GEORGE
Main Brook
Aug. 2, 1938 - March 13, 2003

Passed peacefully away at Curtis Memorial Hospital on March 13, 2003 in his 64th year, George Applin of Main Brook. Leaving to mourn wife Keziah; sons Dallas (Jean), Barry and Leonard; sister Hazel (Roy Way); brothers Harvey (Lorraine), Philip (Rosie) and Kirby (Pat); grandchildren Amanda, Adam and Aaron, as well as a large number of other relatives and friends. Visitation took place at the Main Brook Pentecostal Church from where the funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 16 with Pastor Robert Davis officiating. COLES, MARY TRYPHENA SELMA ELIZABETH
Feb. 12, 1932 - March 18, 2003

Passed peacefully away the Leonard A. Miller Centre in St. John's on March 18, 2003 in her 71st year. Leaving to mourn husband Frederick; father William Canning, age 96; daughters Bernetta and Peggy-Ann (Charlie); sons George (Shirley), Ross (Pamela), Eugene (Yvonne), Bert (Jo-Ann) and David (Sharon); brother Herbert (Irene); grandchildren Jonathan, Deanna, Corey, Heather, Karla, Janna, Jared, Chantell, Chad, William and Kristen, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Visitation took place at the Calvary Pentecostal Temple in Roddickton from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 21 with Pastor Keith Simms officiating. MCCARTHY, JAMES J.
St. Julien's

Passed away at his late residence on March 23, 2003. He was in his 72nd year. He leaves to mourn sister Rita Hall of Corner Brook; aunt Alice Sexton of St. Julien's; the Whiteway families, as well as a large number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The funeral mass took place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26 at the Roman Catholic Church in St. Julien's with Fr. Jim Robertson officiating. Pallbearers were Edward Whiteway, Gordon Whiteway, Eugene Sexton, John McCarthy, Jerome McCarthy and John Sexton. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.

ELLSWORTH, EDWARD P.
Englee

Passed peacefully away at John M. Gray Centre on March 24, 2003. He was in his 83rd year. He will be sadly missed by wife Gertie; sons George (Joyce) and Charlie (Shirley); daughters Christina (Steve), Sadie (Stan), Margaret (Bernard), Marie (Alonzo), Kathleen (Peter), Druce (Dennis) and Arlene (Ron); 21 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four brothers; one sister, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Visitation was held at the Pentecostal Church in Englee from where the funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26 with Pastor Peckford officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, Roddickton, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.

HUNT, KATIE MARIE
Jan. 2, 2003 - March 26, 2003

Born Jan. 2, 2003 at Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton and transferred to Stollery Children's Hospital where she underwent open heart surgery at 5 days old. On March 26, Katie passed peacefully away in the arms of her mom, surrounded by family and caring staff of Stollery Children's Hospital. Deeply saddened, yet cherishing the short time Katie was with us are her mom Mae Kearney; dad Eric Hunt and sister Erica. Katie will be sorely missed and always remembered by her family and friends, especially Nan and Pop Kearney; Nan and Pop Hunt of Conche; aunts and uncles Aunt Darlene (George) who was there for us when Katie was born and when she passed away, thanks Darlene, Karen Byrne Andy), Chris Kearney (Charlene), Judy Hunt (Deon), Dale Hunt (Terry), Delsie McGrath, Marie Byrne (Ken), and Clayton Hunt (Racheal); cousins Mackenzie, Toni, Gregory, Barry, Tyson, Toby, T.J., Jonanth and Gary; godparents Anne and Brendon Fitzpatrick of Conche, as well as a large number of great-aunts and great-uncles and other cousins. A memorial service was followed by a cremation on April 1 at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Sylvan Lake, Alberta. Burial will take place in Newfoundland at a later date.
The Kearney and Hunt families would like to thank all who helped in any way during the illness and passing of Katie Marie. Passed peacefully away at Shirley's Haven seniors home in St. Anthony on March 28, 2003. She was in her 79th year. Left to mourn are son Bob (Nina); grandchildren Shawn (Corinne), Eddy (Bev), Sherry (Jake), Marsha (Steven), Michelle, Nicole, Peter and Glenn; brother Stan; sisters Shirley and Carman, as well as a number of other relatives and friends. She is predeceased by father Walter Patey, mother Harriet Patey, sister Daphne, brothers Charles, Archibald and William, and son Edwin. Visitation took place at the funeral home on West Street . The funeral service was held at the United Church in St. Anthony at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 30 with Rev. John Maich officiating. Pallbearers were Bill Buchanan, Bill Burt, Derek Patey, Don Powell, Ford Roberts and Fred Slade. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. RANDELL, ZELA
Bide Arm
May 30, 1912- March 29, 2003

Passed peacefully away at Roddickton Health Centre on March 29, 2003. She was in her 90th year. She leaves to mourn sons Wilfred (Emma), Naaman (Shirley) and Harvey (Margaret) of Bide Arm, and Randolph (Anna) of Englee; daughters Ettie (Percy) Hopkins of Bide Arm and Lucy (Garland) Stuckey of Pike's Arm; brothers Daniel (Beulah) Randell of Bide Arm and Charlie Randell of Roddickton; sisters Hettie Hampshall of Sheffield, England, Nellie (Herbert) Humby of Roddickton, Lucy (Reginald) Fillier and Chatfield Randell of Englee; 23 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and three great- great-grandchildren, as well as a number of other relatives and friends. Visitation took place at the Apostolic Faith Church in Bide Arm from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m on Tuesday, April 1 with Pastor Chris Hewlett officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, Roddickton, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.

TUCKER, FRANCIS H.
Corner Brook (Former resident of Ship Cove)
Feb. 24, 1923 - March 29, 2003

Passed peacefully away at his daughter's residence in Corner Brook on March 29, 2003. He was in his 80th year. He leaves to mourn sons Ross (Barbara) of St. Anthony, Randolph (Judy) of Straitsview, Grenfell (Kim) and Paul (Brenda) of Mississauga, Larry (Leona) of St. Lunaire, and Chris (Maureen) of Curling; daughters Peggy (Lewis) of Raleigh, Marie (Grenfell) of Corner Brook, Linda (Philip) of Straitsview and Brenda (Eric) of Cull Harbour; 24 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters Deliah (Selby) Tucker of Ship Cove and Alice Eddison of Griquet; brother Charles (Jeannie) Tucker of Belgium, as well as a number of other relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his loving wife Doris (1995). Visitation took place at Central United Church in Quirpon from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2 with Rev. Victor Hamlyn officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.

EDDISON, ROBERT
Hay Cove
March 16, 1919 - March 31, 2003

Passed peacefully away at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on March 31, 2003. He was in his 84th year. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Emma; sons Grenfell (Marie) and James (Wanda) of Corner Brook , and Winston (Christine) and Kevin (Gloria) of Hay Cove; daughters Rosetta (Ricky) of Ship Cove, Mazie (Lester) and Wavey (Clarence) of Noddy Bay and Cassie (Stephan) of Sackville; brother Carmen (Mabel) of Hay Cove; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, as well as a number of other relatives and friends. Visitation took place at Central United Church from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 3 with Rev. Victor Hamlyn officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
