HILLIER, Michael Eric
Born: April 23rd, 1986
Passed on: June 13th, 2016
Michael Hillier
passed away on June 13, 2016 in Fort McMurray, Alberta at the age of 30 years. Michael Eric Hillier or "Mike" as he was known by to most, was born in St. Anthony on April 23rd, 1986 to Barry and Angela Hillier of Goose Cove. Michael had a twin brother Matthew. They were inseparable from birth and this bond continued throughout their entire lives. Michael spent the first 13 years of his life in Goose Cove tormenting so many people but he definitely left his love and wittiness in the hearts of all his childhood friends. He moved to CBS in 1998 with his family and here he made another multitude of life-long friends. He was like a magnet, everyone he came into contact with just clung to him. In 2001 Michael moved to Roddickton with his family where he lived for four years. It was there that he met Melissa for the first time as a high school friend. In 2005 Michael moved to Fort McMurray where his brother Matthew was living, they were only apart for a year. He lived with Matthew and Tara (Matt's wife) where he drove her completely crazy all the time. She often quoted that "she felt like she was married to both of them at times." Michael couldn't have asked for a better sister-in-law. Michael worked with various contractors and started his electrical apprenticeship in 2008. He received his journeyman's in 2012 and started working for Syncrude in 2013. In 2014, Michael and Melissa met again which was the beginning of his new family and on March 25, 2016 they welcomed their pride and joy, baby Cali Angeline; she was his shining star. He was always a happy guy but the last couple of years he had a twinkle in his eye and a permanent smile on his face. His dream of having his own family had been fulfilled. Michael loved spending time with all his friends and family, and hunting and fishing with his Dad, Matthew, and Jake, He especially loved tormenting and joking with his only sister Mandy and brother-in-law Marcel. He was the best "unky" in the world to his three little nephews, Hayes, Landon, and Ryan. Michael leaves to mourn his partner Melissa Randell; daughter Cali Hillier; parents Barry and Angela Hillier; brothers Matthew (Tara) and Jake Hillier; sister Mandy Daigle (Marcel); nephews Hayes, Landon, and Ryan Hillier; as well as a large circle of other family and friends. SMITH, Cecilia Joseph
Born: October 19th, 1919
Passed on: June 17th, 2016
Cecilia Joseph Smith (née Roberts, née Offrey)
of Hawkes Bay, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2016, surrounded by loving family and friends, at the age of 96. It is with great sadness that the family announces that her search for a man with three good legs has finally come to an end. Cecilia, whom everyone affectionately called "Celie" or "Ceil" will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, playful mischievousness and dedication to her family. Born on October 19, 1919 in Eddies Cove West, Celie spent the good part of her life taking on a man's world with nothing but grit, gusto and a great deal of sarcasm. Starting off in the fishing boat with her father at the age of 14, over the years she was often found logging for Bowater's, or fixing things for Wallace Maynard. She was a force to be reckoned with and the epitome of Women's Liberation.
Cecilia was predeceased by her first husband William Roland Roberts; her second husband Roland Smith; parents Allen and Mary Offrey; sisters Mary, Annie and Eleanor; brothers Lawrence, Granville, Eymard and Reginald; her baby Chip; and not to mention numerous black bears, rabbits, caribou, beavers and a scattered moose. She leaves to mourn, her children Marie (Bill) and Walter (Greta); sisters Madeline, Evangeline, and Theresa; her grandchildren Verna, Glenda (Bobby) Walter (Angie), Tammy (Pat), Bonita (Bo), Paula (Donnie) and Damian (Judy-Ann); her great-grandchildren Jeffery (Karla), Robin (Sherry Lynn), Aletha (Peter), Stephanie (Craig), Ricky, Rebecca, Moya, Michaela, Sydney and Ryan; her great-great-grandchildren Dawson, Cloe, Grace, Katie, Maddalyn, William, Lily and Kaylee and also her nephews Robert (Michelle) and Walt (Bernadette) and a large circle of family, friends and fans.
Special thanks to her caregivers Marina Drover, Joy Kelly, Tracy House and all the staff at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre. Never one to mince words, Ceilie has asked for "No snottin' and bawlin'!" In lieu of flowers, everyone who remembers her is asked to celebrate in their own way. Raising a glass of Seagram's 83 in her memory would be quite appropriate. Upon her wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no formal funeral service. The family home was open to visitors on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home.
