BESSEY, Ethel Emma Ivy
Passed away peacefully at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on June 2, Mrs. Ethel Emma Ivy Bessey of Ship Cove in her her 93rd year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories daughter Selma (Clarence); son Lester (Louise); grandsons Donald (Jackie) and Lorne (Melissa); great-grandchildren Garrett, Samantha, Nicolas Vincent, Jessica Tania, and Emma Nicole Bessey; sister-in-law Greta Bessey and a large number of nieces, nephews and a grand circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Eldred, parents Samuel and Martha Colbourne, brother Roderick, sister Gertrude Cull, Mae Burden, Beatrice Colbourne, and special sister-in-law Lucy Colbourne. Visitation was held at the United Church in Ship Cove followed by the funeral service on Sunday, June 5. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

CARROLL, Ralph J.
Passed peacefully away on June 21, 2011 at the Hoyles Escasoni Complex Ralph J. Carroll of Conche, NL, age 78 years. He is predeceased by his parents William and Mary Carroll, brother Clyde and brother-in-law Thomas Jackman. Leaving to mourn wife Patricia (nee O'Neill) St. John's; son William (Lucy) Richmond Hill, Ontario; three stepdaughters Debbie Power (Albert) Conche, Kelly Ree (Dave) Barrie, Ontario, Tracy Spencer, St. John's; ten grandchildren and one great-grandson; five sisters Mercedas Jackman, Barrie, Ontario, Regina Carroll, London, Ontario, Hilda Symmonds (Michael) Conche, Laboura Whalen (William) Conche, Mariella Kearney (Francis) Conche; two brothers Aiden (Linda) Cormack, and Wilbert (Linda) Vilna, Alberta; a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral mass was held on Saturday, June 25, at St. Theresa Church on Mundy Pond Road, St. John's. Burial took place at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Conche, on Tuesday, June 28 where Fr. Devas officiated.

ELLIOTT, Jessie Marion
Passed away peacefully at John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony on June 6, 2011, Mrs. Jessie Marion Elliott of St. Anthony in her 85th year. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of memories daughters Audrey (John Pynn), Bonnie (Robert Campbell), and Judy (Melvin Learning); sons Ron (Hattie), Keith, Sam (Evelyn) and Ivan (Maxine); sisters Hazel (Mike Milner), Una (Garth Newman), and Virtue (Jerry Kean); 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a large extended family and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her husband Frederick, parents Leander and Florence Sulley, infant brother Joseph, infant sister Irene, sister May Baikie and foster brother Stuart Hillier. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home followed by the funeral service which was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, at St. Mary's Anglican Church with Rev. Ralph Moore and Lay Reader Bob Mesher officiating. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

HANCOCK, Gladys
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gladys Hancock of Forteau, NL, announce her passing on June 21, 2011 at the Palliative Care Unit in Forteau at the age of 71 years. Leaving to mourn with loving memories husband James Hancock; children Sharon Keough (Roger), John (Paula), Wanda Russell (Charlie), James Jr. (Lillian), Doreen (Tony Flynn), and Myles (Gail); 15 grandchildren Sheldon, Ian, Lance, Loucas, Michael, Michelle, Zackery, Shanda, Cortez, Melissa, Scott, Johnathon, Natasha, and Trevor; two great-grandchildren Sophie and Kendrick, as well as a large circle of other family and friends. She was predeceased by her grandson Stephan, parents Stanley and Minnie Ryland, brother Fred and sister Meta. Visitors were received at the English Point Gospel Hall on Wednesday and Thursday from where the funeral service took place on Friday, June 24, at 2 p.m. with Mr. Edward Barney officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery in Forteau. As expressions of sympathy no flowers at request. Donations can be made to the Janeway Hospital. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, L'Anse au Loup.

HOPKINS, Annie Jane
Passed away peacefully at the White Bay Health Care Centre in Roddickton on June 23, 2011 Mrs. Annie Jane Hopkins of Roddickton/Bide Arm, NL in her 94th year. She leaves to mourn with a lifetime of fond and loving memories sons Willis (Mae) Hopkins, Roddickton, Percy (Ettie) Hopkins, Bide Arm, Clifford (Jean) Hopkins, Kitchener, and Ricks (Debbie) Hopkins, Guelph, Ontario; daughters Beatrice House, St. John's, Ivy (Edward) Appleton, Brampton, Ontario, Ruby (Wilson) Jenkins, Roddickton, Patricia Hopkins, Kitchener, Ontario, and Leah (Edward) Williams, Kitchener, Ontario; sister Drucella Hopkins, Englee; 29 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Philip Hopkins, daughter Bessie Compton, and son Anthony Hopkins. Visitation was held at the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, with Pastor George Burton officiating. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

NOEL, Cyril Calvin
Passed away peacefully at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on June 24, 2011, Mr. Cyril Calvin Noel of St. Anthony, NL, in his 73rd year. Leaving to mourn his wife Helen Noel; daughter Sue Noel (Glen); son Barry Noel (Elizabeth); granddaughters Katrina Noel and Emma Noel; sister Patsy Noel; brothers Frank Noel, Clayton Noel (Marilyn), and Lee Noel (Marjorie). He was predeceased by his parents Herbert and Mae Noel, and brother Raymond Noel. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home. The funeral was held on Monday, June 27, with Rev. Stephanie McClellan officiating. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director

PATEY, Herbert Amos
Passed away peacefully at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on June 18, 2011, Mr. Herbert Amos Patey of Main Brook, NL, in his 76 year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories wife Emily; children Lottie (Ed), Tobias (Mona), Amos (Theresa), Olive, and Vina (Eddie), his 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister Elizabeth Ollerhead (Jobe Strangemore); sister-in-law Ethel Patey, and a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Chesley and Blanche Patey, brother Everest Patey, sister Hariett, and nephew Herbert Patey. Visitation was held at the Pentecostal Church in Main Brook followed by the funeral service on Wednesday, June 22, with Pastor Reg Skinner officiating. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

POWER, Anthony John
Passed away suddenly due to a tragic accident on June 25, 2011 Mr. Anthony John Power of Conche, NL, in his 54th year. He leaves to mourn his mother Rita Power; his three children Conrad, Chantelle (Rob), and Cody; his precious grandson Dylon; his six brothers Maurice, Phil, Albert, Frank, Wayne, and Fabian; his sisters Angela, Vange, Joan, and Madonna and a large number of family and friends. He was predeceased by his father Cornelius. Visitation was held at the Sacred Heart Church in Conche, followed by the funeral service on Thursday, June 30 with Fr. Devas Vargees officiating. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

PYNN, Baxter
Passed away peacefully at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on June 24, 2011, Mr. Baxter Pynn of Raleigh, NL, in his 81st year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Janie; his children Hilda Gushue, Rona (Bill Bowers), Randy (Velma), Patsy (Kevin Geroux), and Barry (Shauna); his nine grandchildren Jason, Dana, Chris, Candace, Stephanie, Victoria, Robyn, Adam, and Megan; his seven great-grandchildren Hannah, Robbie, Olivia, Victoria, Adam, Alexander, and Ryder; his sister Doris Sansford and a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Hilda Pynn. Visitation was held at the St. Paul's Anglican Church in Raleigh followed by the funeral service which was held on Monday, June 27 with Rev. Diane Smith officiating. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

SIMMONDS, Elizabeth Clara
Passed away peacefully on June 16, 2011 at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony, Mrs. Elizabeth Clara Simmonds of Goose Cove, NL, in her 83rd year. She leaves with a lifetime of love and wisdom, her sons Cyril (Maude), Maurice (Marlene), Felix (Salome), Willjoe (Vashti), Eugene (Theresa), John (Edna), Ron (Florence), and Rex (Paula); her daughters Kay Taylor (Lloyd), Margaret Caines (Lemore), Bridget Patey (Gene), Leone Russell (Glenn), and Isabelle Cull (David); she also leaves 31 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren with many loving memories. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband Michael Simmonds, her parents Simon and Margaret Ward, as well as her two brothers Cyril and Willjoe, and her adopted brother Felix. Visitation took place at the funeral home in St. Anthony followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 18 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Goose Cove with Fr. Tim Moriarty officiating. Cremation followed the service and burial took place in the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Goose Cove on Monday, June 20. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

TAYLOR, Valen Eleazar
Passed away peacefully at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on June 10, 2011, Mr. Valen Taylor of Raleigh in his 77th year. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his son Wayde (Bertha); daughters Jean (Hedley), Ena (Albert), and Jennifer; grandchildren Jody (Sonia), Marcella (Kirby), April, Beatrice, and Dillon; great-grandchildren Alicia, Emma, Karley, and Jon; his brother Elijah; and sister Flossie, as well as many nieces, nephews, additional relatives and friends. Mr. Valen Taylor was predeceased by his wife Beatrice, son Truman, parents Harvey and Eva Taylor, sisters Evelyn, Bertha, Ivy, and Ellen, brothers Llewelyn and Ernest. Visitation was held at the United Church in Raleigh followed by the funeral service on Monday, June 13, with Rev. Gus Pendleton officiating. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.
