Passed peacefully away at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre in Port Saunders on
Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003. She was in her 84th year.
She leaves to mourn children Murray (Madonna), Donna (Bruce) and Jean (Steadman);
four grandchildren; one great grandchild; sisters Blanche Coates of Pasadena
and Lillian Davis of Wesleyville; brother Francis Hillier of Nova Scotia; sisters-in-law
Grace and Zelda Hillier; nephews Rudy and Tony Hillier; two grandsons-in-law
John Taylor and Dean Lidstone, as well as a large number of other relatives
and friends. She is predeceased by husband Eric, infant daughters Lorraine
and Joan, brothers Donald and Herbert Hillier and sister Sylvia Boyde. Visitation
was held at the Anglican Church in Main Brook from where the funeral service
took place at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 6 with Rev. Hounsell-Drover officiating.
Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted
to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.

Richards, age 67,
announce her passing on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003 at John M. Gray Centre in St.
Anthony. She will be sadly missed by husband Graham; sons Dick (Jackie) and
Jeffery; daughters Jodean (Scott) and Brenda (Paul); seven grandchildren Christa,
Sharon, Kimberly, Marjorie, Victor, Jeffery and Summer, and three sisters Ivy,
Lottie and Irene (Reginald) Elliott, as well as a large circle of other relatives
and friends. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at St. Anthony
United Church with Rev. John Maich officiating. Interment followed at the church

Passed peacefully away at John M. Gray Centre on Jan.
8, 2003. He was in
his 73rd year. He leaves to mourn wife Ivy; sons Barry ( Sharon ) and Trevor
(Kim); daughters Evelyn (Don Keats), Wanda (Brian) Hughes and Dorcas; grandchildren
Shelley, Christopher, Vina, Barry, Tara and Allie; great-grandson Cody; stepson
Glen Pittman, as well as a large number of other relatives and friends. Visitation

was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10 with Rev. Ross Rumbolt officiating. Interment

Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Hospital in St. John's on Jan
10, 2003. She was in her 69th year. She leaves to mourn husband

(Patsy) and Archie (Janice), all of Roddickton, Ricky of St. Paul, Alberta and
Kevin (Allison) of Devon, Alberta; daughters Gladys Cassell of Devon, Alberta,
Margaret (Kenneth) Kelly of Hawkes Bay, Cindy (Dennis) Newman of Fort McMurray,
Alberta and Marlene (Gideon) Burton of South Brook; mother Verbena Hancock of
Roddickton; sisters Melita (Walter) Fowler and Mae (Reuben) Pittman, both of
Roddickton; brother Wilmore (Laura) Hancock of Englee; 33 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren,
as well as a large number of other relatives and friends. Visitation took place
at the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton from where the funeral service was
held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14 with Pastor Rene Cassell officiating. Interment

Bethel Pentecostal Church in Hawkes Bay from where the funeral services took
place on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. with Capt. Jason Haggstrom officiating.
Cremation followed. Interment was held on Monday, Jan. 27 at 3 p.m. at the
Interfaith Cemetery in Sandy Cove. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were
graciously accepted or donations can be made to the CNIB. Funeral arrangements

CHEVRETTE, M. MAURICE
Mr. Chevrette, age 61, died Jan. 24, 2003 at Ste-Marie
Hospital in Trois-Riviè res,
Province of Quebec . He is survived by his wife Gaétane Laprise; son
Karl Chevrette; daughter Anick (Éric Provost); brothers Louis Chevrette
and Paul Chevrette (Jacqueline St-Laurent); brother-in-law Robert Laprise;
sister-in-law Thérèse Laprise (Gervais Bergeron), and many nephews,
cousins and friends. Visitation took place on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at Centre

BYRNE, BERNARD JOSEPH

Bernard Joseph Bryne of Conche passed peacefully away at the Health
Sciences Centre, St. John's on Friday, Jan. 24, 2003 in his
85th year. Leaving to mourn his wife of 57 years Laura; daughters
Maude (Frank), Madonna (Ed), Antonia, Goretti (Gary), Jacinta (Richard) and Millie
(Bernie); sons Don (Ida), Victor (Lucy), George (Alice), Kev (Donna), Barry
(Bertha), Bernie (Gertie), Terry, Jude (Delight), Bill, and Andy (Karen) with
whom they resided in St John's . He will be remembered and sadly missed by 35
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, sisters Margaret and Mae, as well
as numerous other relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, brother
WillJoe, sisters Maude, Liz, Chris and Stella and grandson Michael Flynn (1997).
The funeral mass took place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29 from Sacred Heart
Parish in Conche with Fr. Jim Robertson officiating. Interment followed at Sacred
Heart Cemetery in Conche. As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to
the Heart and Stroke Foundation in his name. “As it was, may his entertaining
spirit be endless”.

STRICKLAND, MELVA JOAN
Winnipeg, Manitoba
On Jan. 26, 2003, Melva Joan Strickland passed away peacefully
at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg at the age of 55 years. Joan is survived
by her husband Clyde; sons Rick (Lindsay) and Steven (Stacey), and daughter Sarah
(Corby). Joan was a loving grandmother of three grandsons, Daniel, Kyle, and
Jordan. She is fondly remembered by her brothers Joe (Marion), Allan (Blanche),
Ambrose (Cathy), Raymond (Patsy), Malcolm (Collette), Shannon (Helen) and Sheldon
(Roxanne); sisters Josie (Daniel), Beverly (Donald), Ina (John), Hope ( Wayne
), Terry (Perry), and Gay (Perry); father Ralph Pilgrim, and many nieces and
nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Beatrice on March 9, 1995. Joan was
born in Griquet , Newfoundland on Feb. 9, 1947. She will be remembered for her
kind and generous heart, her courageous spirit, and the abundant love she possessed
for her family and friends. Joan was an active member of the Weston Gospel Church
over the past years, and took pleasure in all aspects of worship and fellowship.
Joan's memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9 at Calvary Pentecostal
Tabernacle in Griquet with Pastor Andrews officiating. Our family would like
to express their gratitude to all Joan's dear friends and church family for their
kind and generous support over the past year and especially during the past few
weeks. You are treasured beyond words and are dearly appreciated. A special thank
you to the supportive and caring staff at Riverview Health Centre (3 East) for
their care over the past weeks, and to Chris and the community health nurses
who were so helpful during the time leading up to Joan's admission to Riverview.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Sunday, Feb. 2 with Rev. John Hounsell-Drover officiating. Interment followed
