COMPTON, Esther
Passed on: February 2nd, 2016

Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony on the 2nd day of February 2016, Mrs. Esther Compton of Roddickton, in her 89th year. She leaves to mourn with loving memories her husband Noah Compton, St. Anthony; sons Elmore Reid and Kevin (Debbie), both of Roddickton; daughter Vivian Compton, Edmonton, Alberta; grandchildren Allison, Travis, Mason, Cadenz, and Stephen; great-grandchildren Aleyna, Ashlynn, Emmett, Jacob and Jesse as well as a large circle of other family and friends. Visitation was held at the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton from where the funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 7 with Rev. Christopher Hewlett officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

EDDISON, John Thomas
Born: December 16th, 1955
Passed on: February 12th, 2016
John Thomas Eddison
was born on December 16th, 1955, to Jacob and Alice Eddison in Hay Cove. He was one of seven children. On May 16th, 1980, he married Bessie Noble of Great Brehat. Together they raised three children, Brian, Bradley, and Brandon. His love for darts was infectious. His door was always open to family, friends, and to strangers. On February 12th, 2016, in his 60th year, John passed away while doing what he loved best, he was at his firewood. Mr. John Eddison leaves to mourn with heavy hearts and loving memories his wife Bessie Eddison; children Brian (Donna), Bradley (Jolene), and Brandon; grandchildren Shayden, Kieran and Tianna; mother Alice Eddison; sisters and brothers Inice Bartlett (Frances), Gloria Loder (Albert), Deborah Bartlett (Duncan), Ramsey Eddison (Judy), Daisy Eddison, and Dora Eddison (Robert); mother-in-law Daphne Noble; in-laws Alex Noble (Janice), Ray Noble (Lillian), Violet Short (Absalom), Irene Allingham, Mable Caines (Hebbert), Elsie Saunders (Fred), Alma Noble (Shawn), Marie Patey and Sadie Short; special friends Steve and Wanda Decker as well as an extended circle of nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends. He was predeceased by his father Jacob Eddison. Visitation was held at the Central United Church in Quirpon Branch from where the funeral service was held on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. with Major Dinzel Baggs, Rev. Gus Pendleton officiating. Interment followed in the Central United Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

FILLIER, Ross Eric Grenfell

It is with great sadness that the family of Mr. Ross Eric Grenfell Fillier announces his passing on February 15, 2016 at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony. He leaves to mourn to mourn with loving memories his daughters Audrey (Joe), Donna (Stan), Linda (Rafe), and Gertie; daughter-in-law Rosemary; grandchildren Danny (Barb), Chris (Tammy), Julie (Guy), Rochelle (Andy), Cory (Shelley), Deana (Rol), Gina (Brad), Sandy (Ivan), Heather (Trevor), and Kristie, as well as 14 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren and a large number of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Ross was predeceased by his wife Mary, sons Wilbourne, Albert Scott, daughter Bonnie Lynn, parents Albert and Lavinia Fillier, brother Chesley and son-in-law Chris. Visitation took place at the funeral home in St. Anthony followed by the funeral service which was held on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 2:00 p.m. at the Salvation Army Citadel with Major Dinzel Baggs officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

GENGE, Nicholas Noah
Passed on: February 24th, 2016

It is with great sadness that the family of Nicholas Noah Genge announces his sudden passing on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016 at the Health Science Centre in St. John's at the age of 18 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his mom and dad Tina and Dwayne; sister Mackenzie; girlfriend Jada Macey; grandparents Noah and Laura Genge and Maria Genge (Noah); great-grandparents Stedman and Alma Genge; aunt Betty, uncle Greg - Jasmine, Santana (Dexter), uncle Claude, aunt Elva - Blade and Victoria, uncle Tyrone, aunt Johanne - Courtney and Keira; special friends Greg Way, Brady Tucker and Dustin Gaulton; loving cousins Brady, Blair and Andrew Genge, and a large circle of other family and friends. Nicholas was special to all who knew him. He will be sadly missed but remembered for his charming way with everyone and his caring personality. He was predeceased by his aunt Brada, great-grandparents Dora and Gordon Genge, Alice and Emanuel Sinnicks and Gilbert and Miriam Parrill. Visitation took place at St. Matthews Anglican Church in Anchor Point from where the funeral service was held on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Omar Reyes officiating. Interment followed in St. Matthew's New Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

HOUSE, Owen
Passed on: February 19th, 2016

It is with great loss and sadness that the family of the late Owen House of New Ferrole Harbour announces his sudden passing at the Rufus Guinchard Health Centre in Port Saunders on Friday, February 19, 2016 at the age of 27 years. He leaves to mourn his family: mother Margaret, father Garry, and brother Dylan; special aunt Ethel House (Sam), special uncle Victor Hughes (Nikita) and a very special friend Zita Rumbolt; aunts Semonne, Hazareth (Fred), Rhona (Rob); uncles Milton, Jesse, Boyd, Dean (Liz) and Robert House, and Lawrence Hughes (Karen); cousins Amber, Alison, Cory, Shannon (Kerry), Peter (Geri), Samatha, Jamie (Tina), Andrew, Trevor, Adam (Melorie), Pamela (Mitch) and Jenna (Cory) as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his grandparents Thomas and Greta House of Bellburns and Wilfred and Hazel Hughes of New Ferrole Harbour; uncle David House and aunt Josephine Hughes. The family accepted visitors at St. Margaret's of Scotland Church in Shoal Cove West on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday with a family service following on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 11a.m. at the church with Father Bosco presiding and cremation following. LAVERS, Steven

It is with deep sadness that the family of Steven Lavers of Port Saunders announces his sudden passing at his home in Port Saunders on Monday, February 1st, 2016 at the age of 21 years. He leaves to mourn his mother Amanda Lavers (Clayton Plowman Jr.); brother Matthew; uncles Jonathan Lavers, Parry Plowman (Nicky) and Rob Plowman (Mary); aunts Stephanie Krawchuk (Bryan), Corinne Alyward (Terry), Bradea Billard (Lorrie), Caroline Plowman (Lawrence) and Leah Moores (Dave); grandparents: Leah Brown (Sted Patey), Robert Lavers (Judy Lavallee), Clayton Plowman Sr. (Stella) and Emma Plowman (Greg Newton); great-grandmothers Clara Plowman and Pauline Lavers; cousins Melissa Lavers, Nevaeh Lavers, and Keri Gashlard; special aunts, uncles, cousins and a large number of close friends. He was predeceased by father Marvin Plowman, great-grandfathers Augustus Plowman and Matthew Lavers, great-grandparents William and Agnes Plowman, special uncle Howard Lavers and aunt Delphine Patey. The funeral service was held on Saturday, Feb 6 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Port Saunders and interment followed at the Interfaith Cemetery, Sandy Cove with Father Raj presiding. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who helped in any way through this very difficult time. PENNEY, Neville Morris
Born: June 17th, 1934
Passed on: February 9th, 2016
Neville Morris Penney
was born in St. Anthony to Ida and Malcolm Penney on June 17, 1934. In 1939, at the age of five, he started at the Grenfell school and continued until he finished grade 10. In 1955, he graduated grade 11 from Prince of Wales and from there he went on to Mount Allison University in Sackville, Nova Scotia until 1956 when he moved back home to St. Anthony. During the summer of 1956, Morris worked with Fraser Brace at the American Base, until his father asked Morris to come to work at Wentworth Store. Shortly thereafter, he met the love of his life, Bessie Taylor of Raleigh. They married on September 4, 1957. From 1975, Morris worked as a dedicated Pharmacy Storekeeper with Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital until his retirement in 1997. In his pastime, Morris thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to go moose hunting with his buddies Morris King and Jim Penney, seal hunting and rabbit catching, trouting -where he made several trips walking the White Hills and Goose Cove Ponds, and salmon fishing with Tom Hancock and Chester Slade. His talents weren't limited to the outdoors. For years he played hockey with the St. Anthony Polars, and he had a passion for making lamps and candleholders with the wood lathe, and he had a keen interest in schooners and tall ships. He was also a member of the fire hall when it was founded in 1969 for about three years, as well as the Lions Club and St. Anthony Kinsmen. He passed peacefully away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on the 9th day of February, 2016. Mr. Neville Morris Penney of St. Anthony was in his 81styear. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Bessie of 58 years; daughters Dale (Scott) and Lois (Hank); precious grandchildren Penney-Lynn (Nathan) and Zachary (Danielle); great-grandchildren Reid Taylor, Olivia Simms and Isabella Reid; sister Marie Eaton (Wayne); niece Angela; sister-in-laws Zilda Lamb (Robert), Rosie Elliott; and brother-in-law Glossen Taylor (Bernice). Morris was predeceased by his brother Ronald Penney, father Malcolm Morris Penney, mother Ida Penney, and nephew Malcolm Eaton. Visitation was held at the funeral home after which the funeral service took place at the United Church in St. Anthony on Friday Feb.12 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dinesh Gomes officiating. Interment followed at Fishing Point United Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

RANDELL, Daniel Elias
Passed on: February 27th, 2016

Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony on the 27th day of February, 2016, Mr. Daniel Elias Randell of Bide Arm in his 89th year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memoires his wife Beulah Randell, Bide Arm; sons Benson (Juanita) Randell, Englee, Morris (Belinda) Randell, Bide Arm, and Dean (Sandra) Randell, Nicholasville; daughters Maisie (Wade) Reid, Bide Arm, Hazel (Earl) Canning, Roddickton, and Viola (Jeff) Oram, St. John's; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters Hetty Hempshall, Sheffield, England, Chatfield Randell, Englee, and Nellie Humby, Roddickton, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Visitation was held at the Apostolic Faith Church in Bide Arm from where the funeral service took place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2nd with Pastor Howard Canning officiating. Interment followed in the Apostolic Faith Bide Arm Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

ROBERTS, Wilfred Isaac

Wilfred Isaac Roberts
was born in Hampden to Charles and Bertha (Elms). His parents moved to Quirpon within a year of his birth. When Wilfred was young, his mother died and he went to live with his older cousin Esther and her husband Charles Rice who raised him. On December 21, 1951 he married Evelyn Taylor of Raleigh. They made their home in Quirpon raising their six children. In 1972 they moved to St. Anthony as he worked with the Department of Highways. After retirement they enjoyed time with their family, their cabins and gardens and attending the St. Anthony United Church. On the morning of the 25th of February, 2016, Wilfred passed peacefully away. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn; children Marie (Ralph), Cecil (Jessie), Stafford (Patricia), Wavey (Dean), Keith (Marie), and Kevin (Debbie); 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his brother George, many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation was held at the funeral home in St. Anthony after which the funeral service took place at St. Anthony United Church at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, the 28th of February with Rev. Dinesh Gomes and Rev. John McGonigle officiating. Burial followed in the Community Cemetery in Quirpon. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

RUSSELL, Vera Blanche
Born: August 27th, 1945
Passed on: February 24th, 2016
Vera Blanche Russell (nee Burden)
, daughter of Charles and Clarice Burden was born August 27th, 1945 in George's Cove. She was one of nine children. On April 13, 1966 she married the love of her life James and together they raised five children, Perry, Marilyn, Darrell, Denise, and James. On February 24, 2016, Vera passed peacefully away at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony after a courageous battle with cancer. She spent her life caring and loving her family that surrounded her. She leaves to mourn with heavy hearts and loving memories her children Perry (Paula), Marilyn (Junior), Darrell, Denise (Derek), and James (Collette); her grandchildren Shannon, Stephanie, James, and Amy; great-grandchildren Hunter and Hannah; her seven sisters, one brother, and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews. She also leaves her special friend Jeff Pardy. Vera was predeceased by her husband James Russell, grandson David Burden, sister Ina Turnbull, and parents Charles and Clarice Burden. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home in St. Anthony, continuing at St. Andrew the Apostle Anglican Church in Port Hope Simpson. The funeral service took place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 29 with Arch Deacon Gerald E. Peddle officiating. Interment followed in the William's Harbour Anglican Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

STRANGEMORE, Jeremiah
Born: December 31st, 1927
Passed on: February 10th, 2016
Jeremiah Strangemore
passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2016. Jeremiah was born in Ireland Bight on December 31, 1927 to Esau and Dorcas Strangemore. He was one of eight children. He and his brothers fished with their father in the summer and moved to Lolly's Brook in the winter to work in the lumber camp. In 1950 the family moved to Main Brook where they fished and also worked with Bowaters. In 1962 he married Ethel Heddison and together they raised two children, Alice and Randy. He was grandfather to Roddy and Christa and great-grandfather to Hannah and Jake. He is survived by his wife Ethel of nearly 54 years; children Alice (Dennis) and Randy (Barb); grandchild Christa; great-grandchildren Hannah and Jake; sister Mary Jane Burt; brothers Jobe (Elizabeth), Norman (Myra) and Clifford (Dora); sisters-in-law Flo (Paul) and Vera. He is predeceased by parents Esau and Dorcas, grandson Roddy Pilgrim, sisters Blanche, Lucinda, brother Ralph and brothers-in-law Bill Burt and Robert Moores. Visitation took place at the St. Paul's Anglican Church in Main Brook from where the funeral service was held on Sunday, Feb. 14 with Rev. Harold Harvey officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.
