ABUTRAB, Elizabeth Ann
Upper Lahave, Nova Scotia
Elizabeth Ann Abutrab
, age 67, lost her battle with breast cancer Feb. 9, 2010 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Ann was born March 2, 1942 in Petersfield, Hampshire, England to Jean and George Rumford. She spent her early years on the Isle of Wight and went on to become a Registered Nurse where she was able to pass on her gentle caring to those in need, and delighted in caring for babies. Her intelligence was evident as she soon became the youngest operating room sister in the United Kingdom. She enjoyed travelling and did so during her nursing career and after. Ann married Muhsin Abutrab whose love for her was beyond measure. They moved to Baghdad, where she embraced the culture with infinite grace and was a breath of fresh air. During these years Ann met many diverse people who came to know and love her kindness, intelligence, charm and clever humour. She had her children Sadeem and Tamara in Baghdad and raised them selflessly with endless patience and love. Later the family moved to Canada and Ann spent over 20 years in St. Anthony. She touched the hearts of many people and was repeatedly touched in return. Ann loved nature and appreciated the raw beauty that surrounded her. She worked cheerfully as a nurse at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony for many years but her true love was her incredible talent for sewing and spent her latter years perfecting free motion embroidery and created numerous beautiful landscapes over the years in vivid colors which she shared generously with others. She was beauty in motion. Ann and Muhsin retired to Upper Lahave, Nova Scotia in 2002 where Ann was inspired by the serenity of the land which was demonstrated in her art work. She was young at heart and had a special relationship with her grandchildren whom she cherished, learned with, cared for, loved and will miss eternally. Ann is a pure soul and will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
