Passed away on Feb. 1, 2008, Robert Parr, age 78 years. Leaving to mourn wife Myrtle; children Zonya (Graham), Hayward (Mildred), Donald (Rose Ann), Edward (Daphne), Marilyn (Lemuel), Kevin (Michelle), Stephen (Sherry), Jeanette (Barry) and Irene (Peter); 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and a circle of other relatives and friends. Visitation took place at the Pentecostal Church from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5 with Pastor E. Gillett and Pastor P. Hayden officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard and Danielle Galgay, funeral directors.

O’NEIL, THERESA ANNE
Conche

With great sadness, niece, Angela Walsh (Jerry), of the late Theresa O’Neill (1919 – 2008) announces her sudden passing at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony on Feb. 1, 2008, age 88 years. Leaving to mourn sisters Rita Power of Conche, Mary Kearney of Croque, Marie Hill of Griquet and Nellie Byrne of St. Anthony; special nieces Dorothy LeBarge and Marie Byrne; special nephews Albert Power (Debbie), Anthony Power (Lori) and Maurice Power; special sisters-in-law Amelia Carroll and Laura Byrne; special friend Mary Ann Blake of Shirley’s Haven, St. Anthony, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Fred O’Neil (June, 1999), sisters Vellidue Fitzpatrick, brothers Frank, William and Anthony Carroll. Visitation took place at Sacred Heart Church in Conche from where the funeral service was held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5 with Fr. Devas, parish priest officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Danielle Galgay, funeral director.

REEVES, MARIE (NEE TALBOT)
Deer Lake
Jan. 27, 1925 – Feb. 2, 2008

Passed peacefully away at the Deer Lake Manor on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at the age of 83 years, Marie Reeves. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her two sons John Reeves (Holly) of Englee, George O’Rielly (Jean) of Bowmanville, Ontario; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Stanislaus Reeves. Visitation took place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 10 Clinic Drive, Deer Lake on Monday. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Deer Lake with Fr. Aiden Devine officiating. Interment followed at the Deer Lake Interdenominational Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Roman Catholic Church in Deer Lake or the Gideon Bible Fund. Marie was a very special lady who spent numerous hours with her prayer beads and saying prayers for her loved ones and friends. She was a small woman with a big heart. She will be sadly missed by all. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 10 Clinic Drive, Deer Lake.

TATCHELL, KEVIN
Castor River South

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Kevin Tatchell announces his passing on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook at the age of 71 years. He leaves to mourn his wife Agatha; son Jeremy; sisters Clara (Arthur) of Castor River South and Nellie of Bartlett’s Harbour; brothers Joe (Rebecca), Gord and Ike (Nora) of Castor River South; very special nephew Lyman (Edna), and a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Winnifred Tatchell, brothers Patrick and Henry, sister Mabel Newcombe, mother-in-law and father-in-law Mary Ann and Edward Rumbolt, brother-in-law Eugene Plowman and sister-in-law Hilda Tatchell. The family received friends at Our Lady of Angel Catholic Church in Castor River South on Thursday and Friday from where the funeral service was held on Saturday, Feb. 9 with Fr. Roger officiating. Interment followed at French Cove Cemetery in New Ferolle. As expressions of sympathy, flowers and donations were graciously accepted. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Port au Choix.

PATEY, REUBEN McKINLEY
St. Anthony
Reuben McKinley Patey
was born on May 7, 1926 to William F. Patey and Edith (Rose) Patey, formerly of Flowers Cove. He grew up in St. Anthony where he fished with his father. He worked as a carpenter on Curtis Memorial Hospital and later in Labrador but his real passion was local history, of which he spent hours researching items about Pateyville and the whole region. He lived with his mother and sister until they passed away. He then lived alone until May 2006 when he became a resident at Shirley’s Haven. He settled in right away and truly enjoyed the time he spent with other residents and staff. On Tuesday, Feb. 5, he passed peacefully away, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his sisters Frances Hedderson and Amelia Dunphy, younger brother Ralph, 17 nieces and nephews, over 30 great-nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Marie. He will be sadly missed. Visitation took place at K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8 at the United Church in St. Anthony with Rev. McGonigle officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard and Danielle Galgay, funeral directors.

GIBBONS, SARAH
Forrester’s Point

With great sadness the family of the late Sarah Gibbons (McLean) announces her passing at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre, Port Saunders on Feb. 6, 2008 at the age of 58 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Michael; daughters Tammy Gibbons (Desmond Pittman), Myra Lavallee (Chad); granddaughter Sarah Lavallee; mom Aurelia McLean; sisters Hazareth Kelly (George), Rosie Cullihall (Colby), Sybil MacArthur (Desmond), Shirley Rumbolt (Dylan), Irene Macey (Harold) and Louise McLean (Pat); brothers Roland McLean (Joyce), Lambert McLean (Helen), Leslie McLean (Penny) and Primus McLean (Pearl); in-laws Wilga and Irene Gibbons; brothers-in-law Harvey Gibbons (Minnie) and Floyde Gibbons (Shirley); sister-in-law Juantia Crane (Maxwell), as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Sarah is predeceased by her father Raymond McLean and sister Augustine Macey. Visitation took place at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Black Duck Cove from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8 with Rev. Gosse officiating. Interment followed in the Anglican Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Levinia Caines Fillatre, funeral director.

BAINES, RONALD
Shoal Cove West

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ronald Baines announces his passing on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008 at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre in Port Saunders at the age of 80 years. He leaves to mourn his wife, Bertha, of 55 years; two daughters Laverne (Willis) Hynes of New Ferolle and Marilyn (Andrew) Hynes of Reef’s Harbour; one son Wayne (Audrey) of Fort McMurray; grandchildren Vernon (Nadine), Connie (Melvin), Monique (Glen), Sheldon (Tyna), Kyia, Zane, Chase and Jeanien; great-grandchildren Sarah, Taya, Ocean and Melvin Jr.; brothers Roland (Mary), Archibald (Elizabeth) of Shoal Cove; sisters-in-law Susan Baines of Shoal Cove and Cicely (Samuel) Coombs of Labrador City, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Johanna Baines. The family received friends at St. Margaret of Scotland Anglican Church of Reef’s Harbour on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday from where the funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13 with Rev. Gosse officiating. Interment followed at French Cove Cemetery, New Ferolle. As expressions of sympathy, flowers and donations were graciously accepted. CANNING, ALFRED
Roddickton

Passed away on Feb. 12, 2008 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, Alfred Canning, age 78 years. Leaving to mourn wife Mabel; children Muriel (Edmund Baker-deceased), Juanita (deceased), Una (Melvin Hoyles), Craig (Donna) and Cathy (Barry Brown); grandchildren Shawn (Kirsten), Sandi (Dennis), Mark (Janet), Matthew (Melissa), Peter, Amanda (Adam), Sara, Alisha and David; great-grandchildren Emma, Jessica, Hunter, Hannah, Hope and Anna; brother Garland (Naomi) Canning; sisters-in-law Marjorie Canning and Pearl (Arch) Pilgrim; brothers-in-law Abel (Thelma) Decker, Norman (Ceneith) Saunders. He was predeceased by parents Dorothy and Zacharias Canning, stepfather Thomas Canning, sister Myrtle Weir, brothers Herb Caning, Tobias Canning and Rene Canning. Visitation took place at the Pentecostal Church in Roddickton from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15 with Pastor Peter Grimes officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. DECKER, WALLACE 'WALLY' ERIC
Surrounded by family, the death of Wally Decker occurred on February 19th, 2008 at his residence in Waasis. Born Nov. 21, 1966, in Cook’s Harbour, he was the youngest child of Melvin and Christena (Larkin) Decker. Wally was predeceased by his grandparents, several aunts and uncles, his nephew Brady and his special cousin Kirby. Wally was a loving husband to his wife Natasha (Hudson) Decker and father to Mitch and Brandi Decker. He is also survived by his sisters Carolyn (Craig) Campbell, Leona (Ron) O’Neill, and Trudy (Lyndon) Pilgrim; parents-in-law Robert and Dianne Hudson; brother-in-law Shawn (Sherri) Hudson with their son Zack; nephews Jeremy (Erin) Campbell with their son Tyler, Darrell (Jenna) Decker with their daughter Hailey; nieces Kate and Laura O’Neill, and Krystyn Pilgrim. Visitation took place at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home (108 Winnebago St.) on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service was held at the funeral home chapel on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. HALFYARD, RONALD (RON) GEORGE
(March 1, 1951 – Feb. 20, 2008)

Born March 1, 1951 at his home in Curzon Village at Woody Point, Ron Halfyard passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008 in the very same room he was born in. A passionate loving Dad, loyal to his bike and the open road, his home in Newfoundland and Labrador would always be his final destination. Loved and missed by his family and friends. Cremation has taken place. The arrangements were under the direction of Parsons Funeral Home, Deer Lake.

HEDDERSON, NIMROD
Noddy Bay

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Nimrod Hedderson announces his passing on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008 at Shirley’s Haven Interfaith Home in St. Anthony at the age of 74 years. Nimrod was born on May 7, 1933 to Walter and A. Victoria Eddison in Noddy Bay. He taught school in Port Hope Simpson and Little Brehat, but fished most of his adult life with his brother Wesley in Noddy Bay. He was a kind and gentle man who was very passionate about the fishery. He became a resident at Shirley’s Haven in 2007 and was extremely fond of the girls who cared for him. He would refer to them as his angels. He is survived by his sisters Mary Ann Blake and Sarah Jane Bishop, brothers Ambrose Hedderson, Wesley Eddison, Francis Hedderson and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his sisters Bertha, Johanna and Blanche. He will be sadly missed. Visitation took place at the United Church in Noddy Bay from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24 with Rev. Pendleton officiating. Interment followed in the cemetery in Quirpon. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Danielle Galgay, funeral director.

WHITE, AUGUSTINE (GENGE)
Sandy Cove
April 25, 1922 – Feb. 22, 2008

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Augustine White announces her passing on Friday, Feb. 22, 2008 at the John M. Gray Centre, St. Anthony at the age of 85 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her son Randell (Madeline); granddaughter Angela (Paul); grandsons Richard (Erin) and Rodderick (Tammy); great-grandsons Benjamin, Patrick, Quinn and William; brother Rendell (Mabel); sisters Olga and Olive (Jim); sister-in-law Susie; brother-in-law Stanley (Rosalind), as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Howard, mother Eva, father Charles, brothers Harrison, Isaac, Angus and George, and sister Rosanna. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Raymond Simms announces his passing on Feb. 22, 2008 at Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony, age 80 years. Leaving to mourn wife Jessie of 60 years; two sons Ralph (Stella) and Morgan (friend Agnes); four daughters Pearl Montague (Mike), Marjorie Noel (Lee), Wavey Montague (Ray) and Sheila Hillier (Wade); son-in-law Val Parrill; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters Myrtle Tucker and Audrey Hillier (Melvin) and a large number of other relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his parents Garland and Mary Simms and daughter Donna Parrill. Visitation took place at Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home and The Salvation Army Church in St. Anthony from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 25 with Major Raymond Janes officiating. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Hazel (nee Sinnicks); children Margaret (Garry) House, Lawrence (Karen) Hughes, Semonne Hughes, Hazareth (Fred) Tucker, Rhona Hughes and Victor Hughes; grandchildren Jamie, Owen, Samantha, Adam, Pamela, Dylan, Andrew, Jenna, Trevor, Alison and Amber; brother Joseph (Edith) Hughes; special friend Greta House, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his daughter Josephine, mother Mary Anne and father Roland. It is with great sadness that the family of the late John Ryland announces his sudden passing at the family residence in L’Anse au Loup on Feb. 26, 2008 at the age of 87 years. Leaving to mourn with fond memories niece Ella Ryland; great-niece Delphine (Gaius), Trent and Tasha, as well as a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents James Ryland and Sarah Jane Ryland. Visitation took place at the Anglican Church on Tuesday and Wednesday from where the funeral service took place on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Norman Cutler officiating. Interment followed in the Anglican Church Cemetery in L’Anse au Loup. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Homes Ltd., L’Anse au Loup.

CURTIS, WILFRED JAMES
Passed peacefully away at John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony on Feb. 27, 2008 in his 85th year. He was predeceased by his loving wife Annie (1990). He is survived by his loving children Myrtle Cull (Wesley), Rose MacWhirter (Alfred), Doris Reeves (Harrison), Reuben (Patsy), Edward (Monica) and Idella Butt (Derrick); 25 grand and great-grandchildren; brothers Garland (Mildred), Reubin (Daphane) and Calvin (Sadie) and one sister Gladys Humby. Special thanks to the staff of the John M. Gray Centre for their care of him. BILLARD, CORAL LANA DWANDA WHITE

April 21, 2007 – Feb. 27, 2008

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Coral White Billard announces her passing on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008 at the Janeway Child Health Centre in St. John’s at the age of 10 months. Leaving to mourn her parents Cory and Jolynn; grandparents Lizeta and Clarence Billard and John and Karen White; uncles Ryan Billard and Joshua White; godparents Dwayne Hamlyn and Dwanda Janes; the Billard, White, Leonard and Hamlyn families; aunts; uncles; cousins, and other relatives. Visitation took place at Fillatre’s Funeral home, Port au Choix on Friday. The funeral service was held at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, March 1 at 2 p.m. with Fr. Jim Robertson officiating. Interment followed at the Interfaith Cemetery in Sandy cove. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted or donations may be made to the Pompe’s Society of Canada. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Port au Choix.

PIKE, SADIE
Hawkes Bay
Jan. 13, 1926 – Feb. 29, 2008

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Sadie Pike announces her passing on Friday, Feb. 29, 2008 at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre in Port Saunders at the age of 82 years. Leaving to mourn her sons Darrell (Marjorie), Derek (Lilibeth), Ed (Madge) and Reg (Pearl); grandchildren Erin, Christopher, Stephen, Donald, Kevin, Erica, Jody, Kelly, Kyle and Sarah; great-grandchildren Robert, Jordan, Zachary and Ryder; sister Charlotte Caines; brother Abijah (Florence) Plowman; sister-in-law Pauline Plowman, Mildred (Fred) Martin, Dorothy (Jim) Martin and Marie Tuck; brothers-in-law Don (Gladys) Pike and Clayton (Ivy) Pike, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Cornelius and parents William and Alfreda Plowman. Visitation took place at Holy Innocent’s Church in Hawkes Bay on Sunday and Monday from where the funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 4 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Tanya White officiating. Interment followed at the Interfaith Cemetery in Sandy Cove. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted or donations may be forwarded to Holy Innocent’s Church in Hawkes Bay. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Port au Choix.
