ELLIOTT, GERSHOM MAXWELL
Raleigh

Passed peacefully away on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, in his 99th year, Gershom Maxwell Elliott of Raleigh. He is remembered with love by son Roy (Evangeline) and grandsons Ross (Thelma) and David. Leaving to mourn as well, sisters-in-law Mae Elliott and Jessie Elliott of St. John's; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is predeceased by wife Ida (nee Richards), children Jean and Ross, daughter-in-law Grace and brothers and sisters Sam, John, Mary Ann ( Adams ), Elsie (Stanford), Chattie (Knee), Alpheous, Simeon and Ebert. Visitation took place at the United Church in Raleigh from where the funeral service took place on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Maich officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.

GILLINGHAM, ALICE CHATFIELD
Grand Falls-Windsor
(Formerly of Englee)

Passed peacefully away at the Central Newfoundland Hospital in Grand Falls-Windsor on Feb. 9, 2003. She was in her 85th year. She leaves to mourn husband William of Grand Falls; sons Edward (Margaret) of Corner Brook, Winston (Anne) of St. John's, Frank (Beatrice) of Englee and Nelson (Iris) of Grand Falls; daughters Bessie (Osbourne) Reid of Badger and Sybil (Tony) Power of Grand Falls; daughter-in-law Rita Gillingham of Englee; brother Ivan (Myrtle) Canning of Roddickton; sister Nellie Cull of St. Anthony; 24 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren, and a large number of other relatives and friends. Visitation took place at the Apostolic Faith Church in Englee from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13 with Pastors Vanzel Quinlan and Fred Randell officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home in Roddickton, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.

HANCOCK, ELIZABETH (BETTY) RUTH
Passed away at the John M. Gray Centre on February 11, 2003. She was in her 64th year. Leaving to mourn brother Thomas ( Doris ) Hancock; nephews Tom (Reggie) Hancock, Todd (Flo) Hancock and Sheldon (Sonia) Hancock; nieces Lisa Lennon (Sean) and Janice Rose (Ken), as well as a number of grandnephews and grandnieces. She was predeceased by mother Flora May Hancock, father Percy Hancock and sister Patsy. Visitation took place at the funeral home on West Street , St. Anthony. The funeral took place at St. Mary's Anglican Church in St. Anthony at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14 with Rev. Jean Brenton-Hickman officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.

TAYLOR, BESSIE ALLISON
Griquet

Passed away at her son's residence in Griquet on Feb. 15, 2003. She was in her 86th year. Left with many happy memories are sons Nelson (Sadie) and Edgar (Hilda) of Griquet; daughters Louise (Jim) Reid of South River, Olive (Corbett) Blake of North West River and Gaye (Eugene) Parsons of Goulds; grandchildren Rodger Reid, Duane and Colleen Blake, Terry and Jamie Taylor, Leslie Taylor, Stephen and Kate Parsons; great-grandchildren Taylor Blake, Brianna Taylor and Megan Reid; sister Ella (Donald) Mitchell of Portugal Cove as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her husband Richard, son Cecil and grandson Craig Reid. Visitation took place at Central United Church from where the funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb.18 with Rev. John Maich officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery in Griquet. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.

O'NEILL, PATRICK J.
Conche

Passed peacefully away in the presence of family and friends at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on Feb. 17, 2003, Patrick J. O'Neill, age 86 years, storyteller and historian of Conche. He is predeceased by parents John Mary and Nora O'Neill, sister Winifred Bartlett and brothers-in-law Pat Bartlett and Gabriel Walsh. Leaving to mourn sisters Nancy Woodrow and Bride Walsh of St. John's; brother-in-law Joseph Woodrow; nephews Louis Bartlett and his wife Catherine, David, Kenneth, Keith, Rick and Craig Walsh and John Woodrow; nieces Carol Ann Farrell, Louise Ade, Janet Whitten, Norah Woodman, Ellen, Joan and Mary Woodrow and Roseanne McLennon; 31 grandnieces and grand-nephews; two great-grand-nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends at home and abroad. Visitation took place at Sacred Heart Church in Conche from where funeral services were held on Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.

COATES, LAWRENCE
Eddies Cove East

Passed peacefully away at his late residence on Feb. 19, 2003. He was in his 82nd year. He leaves to mourn his wife Martha Elizabeth of Eddies Cove East; daughters Elsie (Chester) Slade of Toronto, Ontario, Ollie Coates of Eddies Cove East, Lelvie (Joe) Parrill of St. Anthony, Dian (Terrance) Prowse of Smith's Harbour, Fanny (Merrill) Hoddinott of St. Anthony and Elizabeth (Clyde) Toope of Devon, Alberta; sons Gideon (June) of Nova Scotia and Seymour (Cora) of Corner Brook; sisters Bessie (John) Woodward of Boat Harbour, Mildred (Peter) and Keziah (Amos) Woodward of Goose Bay; brothers Nathaniel (Julie) of Deer Lake, Wilfred (Rebecca) and Whyman (Catherine) of Goose Bay; sister-in-laws Marjorie Coates (the late John Coates) and Phoebe Coates (the late Hubert Coates); 15 grandchildren, as well as a large number of other relatives and friends. The funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Feb. 22 from the Anglican Church in Lower Cove with Rev. Hounsell officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery at Eddies Cove East. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K.M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.

BUCKLE, HENRY JOSEPH
Passed peacefully away at the Forteau Health Centre on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, Henry Joseph Buckle at the age of 98 years. Left to mourn with precious memories are daughters Louisa (William) Flynn, Elizabeth (Kenneth) Fowler and Nellie (Derek) Thomas; sons Hollis (Maggie) and Truman (Rowena); stepson James (Jessie) Letto; brother George; sister Melsie Roberts; 21 grandchildren,; 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was predeceased by his wife Annie, one brother and three sisters. Visitation was held at St. Peter's Anglican Church, Forteau from where the funeral service took place on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Canon Roberta Woodman officiating and son-in-law Rev. Canon Derek Thomas presiding. Interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery in Forteau.
The family would like to thank everyone who helped in any way during this difficult time. Dad was a person who was a friend to everyone he met and over the course of his 98 years, he met many whose lives he touched with his jovial personality and humour. ADAMS JR., JAMES
Roddickton

It is with great sadness that the family of the late James Adams Jr. announce his passing on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003 at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 64 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Mae; daughter Judy (Terry) Lidstone; son Terry (Michelle); grandchildren Kariss, Brion and Zachary; sisters Millie (Bandfield), Olive (Ralph), Clara (Simon), Rowen (Kevin), Evelyn (Larry), Treffie (Ed) and Leona (Paul); brothers Jasper (Betty), Leamon (Emily), Dorman (Denise) and Jerry (Joann); sisters-in-law Jean (Claude), Louise (Harrison), Patsy (Garland), Melinda (Fred), Belinda (Paul), Rosella and Wanda; brothers-in-law Kevin and Jim (Gwen), as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents James and Elizabeth, brother Baxter, sister Levenia and parents-in-law William and Beatrice Wilcox. Visitation was held at Calvary Pentecostal Church in Roddickton from where the funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28 with Pastor Keith Simms officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers graciously accepted or donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. BUCKLE, HEDLEY
Forteau

Passed peacefully away in the presence of his family at the long -term care unit in Forteau on Feb. 28, 2003, Hedley Buckle at the age of 86 years. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 47 years, Elizabeth ; daughters Judy Bell (Herb), Sadie Pope (Enos) and Nellie Thomas (Dereck); son Curtis (Terry); grandchildren Kent Bell, Paula Thomas and Dylon Buckle, and a large circle of family and friends. Visitation took place at the Gospel Hall in English Point from where the funeral service was held on Sunday, March 2 at 2:30 p.m. with Mr. Joyce and Mr. Bergmas officiating.
You will live in our hearts forever. We love you Dad and we'll always remember you.
